Tucked away in a shopping plaza in Choctaw, The Black Raven is a traditional Irish pub that is all about great food and Celtic tunes. On Saturday evening, I went with family to try out the place and listen to one of their regular bands, The Flowers of Edinburgh, because of a referral from one them. Between the five of us, we ate a little bit of everything and enjoyed it all. For appetizers, we sampled the Celtic Rings, a pile of lightly seasoned sweet onions and fried to a crisp; and the Guinness Chips, Irish chips (potato wedges) covered in Guinness Cheddar. Using a knife and fork felt appropriate for the thick and gooey Guinness Chips. Both were devoured. I personally ordered the Black Mist Burger, because corn beef is not something I see on burgers. The Black Mist Burger starts the same as their Raven Burger with a hearty beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles on a buttery, toasted sourdough bun, but adds their Guinness cheddar and corned beef. The burger itself was amazing and it also came with their Irish chips. Another unique burger on their menu was the Bang'n Burger, which is topped with a split Irish banger, shepherd pie filling, and cheddar cheese. The other sandwich the pub is known for is their Black Raven Reuben. This thinly sliced corned beef topped is with melted Swiss cheese and sauerkraut on a marbled rye. This too was liked by everyone. Being an Irish pub, it's no surprise they had an amazing Shepherd Pie. The pork and ground beef were tenderized and simmered with vegetables and topped with cheddar mashed potatoes. As for dessert, we got everything - their Irish Bread Pudding with Irish Whiskey Caramel Sauce, Guinness Chocolate Layer Cake with Chocolate Ganache, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with Irish Whiskey Caramel Sauce, and dessert of the month, Peach Swirl Cheesecake - and it was good. We did set aside a portion of meals for leftovers to try the desserts or else we wouldn't have made it that far. That was our visit to The Black Raven in Choctaw. The band was great. The atmosphere was warm, complete with several toasts throughout the night. We all enjoyed our time there and plan to visit again to try some of their other offerings. read more

Wonderful food and service. This Irish pub has a delightful owner obviously cares about his workers and customers. His interactions with customers are friendly but generally quick with the amount of customers that are there and it's obvious why. I had the fish and chips which were delightful. My mother had a steak which was cooked perfectly which is hard because I'm picky about my stake. My brother had a banger burger which could crush all other burgers in size not to mention the flavor. Let me start by saying that this is a quaint little place. We got the Scotch Eggs for appetizers, let me say they are awesome. We then had the Cornbeef and Cabbage and the Shepherds Pie, the Cornedbeef and Cabbage was to die for, was cut with a fork tender. The Shepherds Pie was a little dry for my taste, as I am used to them with a rye, but still very good. The service was impecable and the bartender was going above and beyond, be prepared to wait a little for the food, as it is made to order and worth the wait. We weren't sure what to do when we walked in because we weren't greeted and there wad no sign to seat ourselves so we stood awkwardly for a few minutes before someone told us to "sit wherever". This was my first time at the Black Raven, I must say I'm impressed. It may not look like much from the outside, but it's absolutely cozy on the inside. We love to support locally owned restaurants and we've given The Black Raven multiple tries but I can't give a raving review. The place is small, food is good, service is slow, bartender/owner is always friendly, they're always out of more than one menu item. Being out of menu items is a constant; one time the reason was because they had a huge birthday party come in; one time it was because their freezer had gone out. I understand things happen but I don't understand how you let yourself run out of onions, for example, and you don't freeze onions & mushrooms but both appetizers were unavailable due to the freezer being out. You're in business, go buy another freezer and get restocked. Food is very slow coming out, and particularly annoying when another table that came in after us got served before us. We've introduced it to different friends of ours but have finally decided we're done giving it a chance. It's not an Irish Pub but we'll go to Eddie's in Nichols Hills next time. read more

We raise our own grass fed beef, but have had the best burger of my life at the great Irish Pub. The very large thick patty contains some pork, that is the secret. They buy their meats, custom made for them, from a near by butcher shop. Both times I was there, the live music was very loud. So loud, I think if they put the performers out on the sidewalk, it would attract new customers and allow the patrons inside to still hear the music and participate in conversations. But I'm a boomer, maybe it doesn't bother the younger crowd. If I had visitors from out of state, I would definitely take them there, for the ambiance and the authentic Irish food.....the cook even wears a kilt. read more

We split the fish and chips and the raven burger, which came out together and piping hot. Everything was just the way we asked for it. Y'all. The Black Raven is NO JOKE. Not only is the food authentic and incredible, but they have really great beer and beer flights to try, which are my favorite. The couple that opened this place lived in Ireland for a while, and wanted to bring what they loved about Irish pubs to Oklahoma - and they knocked it out of the park! The interior is very reminiscent of Ireland, and it even has pictures of the couple in Ireland on their travels together. I am so glad I took their suggestion, it was amazing. It's just a hole in the wall in a strip mall, nothing fancy but we'll worth the visit. I came across The Black Raven on Yelp when it first opened and the menu sounded like something I would like. Many of my coworkers have talked about how the food and beer were here as well. I can say based on my experience everything I had read and heard was spot on. Finding The Black Raven was a little hard to do. It is tucked in nicely as part of a big stripe mall shopping center. There is a nice window shade that looks like a Irish pub from the outside. Inside you also feel like you are in an old pub. The walls look like they are old wood and stone. The tables are large pieces of old trees. When we walked in we were greeted by live Irish music. The music was awesome and made the atmosphere. The beers were very good for what we wanted. We had the Black and Tan and a Snake Bite. The Scotch Eggs were awesome, the only problem there was only two. I had bangers and mash. The gravy for the mash was very good, you could really taste the tarragon. My partner had the corn beef and cabbage. The cabbage was awesome, It was a full 1/3 cabbage. I highly recommend making the trip out to Choctaw to try the amazing Irish food and experience the live music. read more

Love this place. Not often you can go out for the evening for Irish music which I love very much. One of the members of a band wore an authentic kilt . Which to me added to my experience. Wish they did music a little later and and had more room. Bands are always friendly and personable . Bread pudding is to die for and my FAVORITE is the deep fried beer batter cod. It's also a GREAT place to take an older person for a little fun. The owners and others that work there are very friendly . There beer and Irish coffee is wonderful . P.S.
