    Black cod

The server was very friendly, and the wines were delicious. Everything we ordered was delicious. I had the black cod - it wasn't oily, and the rice was also nicely seasoned. The steak was tender. (I forgot to take the salad.) We pushed ourselves to have the dessert. It took a bit of time between the salad and the entree- could be a better experience if the timing was right.

Visiting Bend and wanted a good meal. Decided on The Blacksmith and wow I am so thankful. Very large space with great bar area with TVs, cozy booths, open tables just overall wonderful seating options for a steak house. Let's talk about the food, simple; AMAZING. The beat salad. O my goodness. Our server was also exceptional, attentive and engaging. We asked for local recommendations and she gave us great options knowing clearly about Bend.

Experience was overall good, food was fine but did not blow us away. I thought the service was outstanding. I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi with added Dungeness Crab since it's in season. The bananas foster was extravagant and way over the top-felt like a big glass of mush.

Greta customer service, amazing food, The environment in the business is very welcoming and not to bright dark Multiple choices for wine and alcohol.

The cocktails were perfection. The bread and basalmic were excellent. The service was outstanding and very cordial. The food was good and the desert went well with the coffee.

I use a more defined rating as I believe there is a very large difference between a 4 and 5 star rating! Similar to magnitude when rating an earthquake. Overall Blacksmith rates a 4.2 star experience, a good experience overall with some room for improvement. The Blacksmith it appears has built the menu to highlight steaks within an Irish pub-like ambiance, cozy to degree. I sat at a high table for two. Comfortable enough with fairly close proximity to other tables in this area (smaller parties of 2.) The meal started with a Cesar salad, accompanied by three cheese curd, fried on side and softer inside and a cheese infused thin biscuit of sorts. These were more pleasant to view than on palate. Minimal taste, however, they added a bit of crunch to an othwise over-saturated salad. I ate 55% of this mediocre presentation. Less dressing with a side of dressing perhaps and fresher salad would make a positive difference? The old fashion drink was very good, quality bourbon (Buffalo Trace) a nice presentation. The main course the Northwest Ribeye was cooked to order, medium rare with a large portion of garlic mashed potatoes. Only one bite of steak couldn't be chewed, gristle. The au juice/Demi glaze, was dark without a dominant taste. Could be room for improvement here? Potatoes were a bit overwhelming in quantity and the texture was too smooth. Some pieces would add required texture and make them more palatable. I arrived when they opened so the service was good not impacted by multiple tables and ordered first or nearly. I was disappointed overall as the aesethics really do lend the positive basis for a better meal. The bathroom was clean enough and stocked with the appropriate supplies. KH

Great first-night dining experience last night! The Kobe filet was outstanding! Three of us had Kobe filets cooked perfectly. As far as sides, we loved the mashers, mac and cheese, and French fries--all were excellent. Rosemary bread was good and warm, too. The atmosphere was calm, with nice lighting, low music, and a chill vibe. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this spot for a great meal.

We visited the Blacksmith for dinner recently, and were given a choice of sitting at a table in the dining room or at the bar. There was no waiting for seating at the bar, so that's what we chose. Tip: The full menu is served both in the dining room and at the bar To kick off the meal, we both ordered vodka martinis. These were made extremely well, with just the right amount of vermouth. We ordered several dishes to share (typical bar food) and enjoyed everything we ordered :-) All the dishes were extremely tasty and very well presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, while the service was attentive and efficient. We throughly enjoying our dining experience, and look forward to returning.

The atmosphere is rustic, cozy, and a little exclusive, which made it a really unique spot to grab a drink! We stopped in right after checking into our hotel, and it was the perfect first stop to kick off our weekend. At first, walking down the alley in downtown Bend, I honestly was not sure what we were about to find. Then we started seeing little fire pit pods, heated huts, glowing candles, and people tucked away having cocktails. It instantly felt cool without trying too hard. Walking into San Simón felt like stepping into some funky speakeasy hidden in plain sight. Dark lighting, moody atmosphere, David Bowie playing in the background, wild artwork on the walls that makes you stop and stare for a second. Just a great vibe all around. The kind of place where you sit down and immediately relax into the evening. The cocktails were excellent. Not overdone, not syrupy, just really balanced and well made. One of our favorites was the "Some Positive Feedback," which came with this sugar rim that looked awesome and added just enough sweetness without overpowering the drink. Bright citrus flavor, refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. Then we asked the bartender if they could just make us something off the cuff. We said vodka, lemon and lime forward, not too sweet, maybe a little spice. They absolutely nailed it. Crisp, refreshing, layered citrus flavor with just enough heat on the back end to keep it interesting. Honestly one of those cocktails where everybody at the table takes a sip and immediately goes, "Oh wow." As a bourbon guy, I was also pleasantly surprised with the whiskey selection. The bartender recommended Stafford's Reserve, an Oregon bourbon, and I am glad I listened. Smooth, approachable, a little sweet up front with some spice on the finish. Easy sipping bourbon that fit the whole vibe of the place perfectly. What really made the night though was the staff. Everybody was friendly in that genuine way where you feel welcomed instead of "served." By the end of the night it honestly felt like we had been there before, even though it was our first visit. The outdoor setup deserves some love too. Bend cooled down at night, but the fire pits and heaters kept everything comfortable. We could have easily stayed another couple hours just hanging out. Pricing felt fair for the quality of drinks and atmosphere. This is not a dive bar pretending to be fancy. It is a genuinely cool cocktail spot that knows exactly what it is. If you are in Bend and enjoy craft cocktails, bourbon, cool music, quirky atmosphere, and places with personality, go find San Simón. Half the fun is finding it tucked down the alley in the first place.

Unfortunately, the pork belly was dry and chewy rather than tender, and I didn't find the dish particularly flavorful or enjoyable for the price. Service also felt disorganized, but my biggest concern was cleanliness. While sitting at the bar, I had flies landing on and around my food, which I photographed. That immediately raised sanitation concerns and made it difficult to enjoy the rest of my meal. I had expected a much more polished experience from a restaurant associated with Chef Brian Malarkey. Between the food quality, service, value, and cleanliness issue, this visit fell well short of my expectations. I don't plan to return, and the sanitation issue was concerning enough that I intend to report it to the appropriate health department.
