Service was excellent for our party of 11 on a Friday night. The place was hopping, and the food was delicious. I've been to the Blacksmith twice now, and each time I ordered a different rendition of Filet Mignon -- and both have been memorable. This time I got the "Steak & Fries", with a perfectly cooked medium-rare filet, topped with chimichurri, and served with demi-glace and a pile of crispy fries. Paired it with a glass of Malbec, and I was in taste bud heaven. Our other courses were outstanding as well. The tuna poke was tender like butter, and the balance of salty soy and wasabi kick was just right. Then the beet salad was also spot-on, with my only wish being a little more texture -- a little more rich goat cheese, and maybe a little more candied walnut crunch. For dessert I ordered the chocolate mousse, which was a nice finish to the evening. The chocolate flavor was deep, not too sweet, and the whipped cream on top was just right for lightening it up. We'll definitely be back -- probably my current favorite restaurant in Bend right now. read more

It was my first time here at Blacksmith and the ambiance is so cavernous and spooky, it is great for our Oct 1st visit. I love the real candles and stone. The drinks were pretty good. I had the spicy martini, it was a bit too spicy for me though, left my lips with a constant burn.. but in a good way. We got a few nibbles.. asparagus and truffle fries. The asparagus was okay but the fries were so good! Service was great at this place! I'll come back for more of a fine dining experience. Hope they have some vegan options!! read more

Excellent service from a very friendly and competent staff. Appetizer (corn dog style crab cake) was quite novel and good, though lacked a strong crab presence. Cocktails and mocktails were really good. Two members of the 10 person group had the ribeye and were both disappointed in the very fatty cuts. I ordered mine Oscar style and am convinced that the crab was an attempt to cover up a slightly lesser cut. Quiet, dark space was a great location for a 10 person, two-family dinner. read more

We made reservations at Blacksmith about a month out for a Saturday at 5pm and unfortunately were wildly disappointed. I will start with the positive, which was our gracious and knowledgeable server who answered all our questions on the menu and was generous with their time. My partner and I each ordered cocktails, caesar salads, and the Blacksmith Kobe burger. The salads and drinks were good with nice plating and presentation respectably. We were impressed with the unique approach to their Caesar salad and their scratch approach to the key items of this staple dinner item. After this however, our visit went downhill as the burgers took well over an hour to come out and after taking our first bites it was clear why it had taken so long as they were probably cooking the meat that entire hour. The burgers were dry as a bone - to the point where the patty itself didn't hold its shape anymore after taking a bite and broke into sections, far from the medium rare and medium well we ordered (just zoom in on the photo of the burger to see how charred it was). We each could only stand to eat half of it and I think it was only that much because we were starving from skipping lunch while being out on Bachelor all day. We never complained about anything and the manager came out on their own volition to apologize while we were waiting and our server offered us bread as we waited. They offered us a free dessert as well at the end but we declined as we had already been there too long and were late for our 7:30 show. This place has good reviews so I imagine your experience won't mirror ours but be wary as they definitely have the off day bad enough to make you not willing to give them a second chance. read more

Stopped in Bend for one evening during a road trip. We decided to eat at The Blacksmith because of the positive reviews. We were not disappointed! The service was amazing from the moment we walked in the door and were greeted by the hostess. The food was to die for. I had the Northwest Ribeye and my husband had the Boneless Pork Chop. We were visiting the Bend area for a family reunion, and the fellas wanted to have a nice steak meal. Blacksmith was able to accommodate our large party of 16 in a private room. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but after 6pm many business parking spots are usable. The receptionist was friendly and guided our group towards the private room. Our culinary adventure started with the Garlic Truffle Fries, Beet Salad and Poke. All were fantastic, especially the Beet Salad being a surprisingly flavorful selection. After a few drinks, we ordered several entrees including the Tomahawk Steak with Mashed Potatoes. Needless to say we did share it, and it came out cooked to perfection. We decided we wanted a nice steak dinner while in town over the weekend. It was Friday night and we didn't have reservations but they were able to set us right away. The choices were very good, we ended up getting a special filet minion with the soup of the day and bread pudding with bacon for dessert. We tend to enjoy the same things, and have started splitting dinners when away from home to avoid having to deal with leftovers, plus it allows room for appetizers and dessert. The entire experience was a welcome change from any other restaurant we have been to recently (as it should be for the prices). The food was seasoned and served perfectly, there were no options for how the steak was cooked, but it came out a wonderful high-rare with excellent flavor and not over powered by seasoning. The risotto it was paired with was the same. The drinks were just as good and the bread pudding was worth the extra time and wonderfully paired with ice cream caramel and bacon. Went last night for my birthday and everything was delicious! Started with the cheese plate and we loved the variety and freshness. Chef sent out complimentary amuse-bouche which was delicious and so kind! My boyfriend got the 32 ounce tomahawk and I had the pork chop. Everything was cooked exactly to our specifications and was so delicious, down to the sauce, sides, and seasonings. Our server was also so kind and knowledgeable. If you're looking for burnt meat go to Applebee's! Customer isn't always right and I'm living for the business owners response to some of these ill-meaning reviews. Everything was delicious and easily this was one of the top three meals I've ever had! What brings me back here is not the crispy clean sun drenched high desert heat, or the snowy flakes that literally are the fluffiest fluff you could ever find, or the trendy cafes/boutique hotels, or even the mood neighborhoods that double for a picturesque maze of reignited flipped urban bungalows. No. It is my Ex-Husband that brings me back to Bend. It's my Ex-husband.(cue cringe face) My now Husband of 15 years mind you (I dont husband hop really I don't), myself and teenage daughter came for said daughter to see her bio dad. Hence, this trip from Hillsboro to Bend. But oh do I love Bend. And oh do I LOVE THE FOOD!! Blacksmith was an idea by me! (this excites me as it's usually hubby that finds the best restaurants, but not his time bwahaha). He wanted steak, I wanted pasta. We both wanted wine, and we both wanted bread. And we wanted serious quality of all of it. And that is what we got here. We start by making a reservation, even on a sunday night because, well, covid. And because websites everywhere say hours are bla bla and yea, they end up not being that. Because, well, covid. And now we have wildfire hazardous smoke to boot. So, ya double the no one is home hours for all establishments. So...make a reservation and call ahead. Smh covid. Blacksmith was casually cool and building bricked up from the feet up, gorgeously, in the downtown Old Mill District. (the fun and hip part of town). Large windows, and street views. The interior is sexy edgy waiting for someone to slide up next to you at the bar. But not wearing a cocktail dress...but for a tatted up man with a bandholz beard, a tailored flannel, skinny pants, and along with a beanie and maybe an ax to throw in his side pocket for the extra hip coolness effect. (no they don't have Ax throwing here, but actually across the street they do...so that would be a well thought out date night...here for dinner, then there for throwing ax's hmm that is such a good idea.. good job me, I'm on a roll) This restaurant could be slightly intimidating, but don't let it get to you. The place and the staff are real, nice, and it all goes smooth together. After the moment of taking a seat, you realize that. Is it just me...or do we all love emotionally detached but nice servers, that are friendly, but keep you at arms length? It feel a lot less awkward and you get a lot more alone time with your dinner mate. This literally just made complete sense of how it felt here. On to the meal...it was in harmony all dinner long. For appetizer we got mini crab corn dogs! The corniness of these corn dogs were LIT. I want just a plate of corn dog crust! Seriously! For the main course he got the HUGE Tomahawk Steak, mashers and asparagus. He devoured it all happily. Perfectly cooked the way he ikes. I got the shrimp scampi pasta, and a side of filet mignon. Yes. A side of filet mignon. I was not playin around that night. Wine was flowing with a menu book of wines and spirits they offer. I absolutely LOVE that they bring out a basket of a focaccia type bread (but its not focaccia), along with a fun little fancy upside down way of serving olive oil/balsamic vinegar alongside it. Delicious. We couldn't do dessert, we were way to done for the night. So I can't tell you how fab it would have been. So if you're looking for a nice chill romantic night, a classy solo bar moment, a bustling time with good friends, or even a family night (if only well behaved older teens are in tow) you will have a great night here. This place used to be known for its reasonably priced happy hour menu; clearly that is a thing of the past when the current menu includes a basic burger for $25! All other menu items are only $2 off regular prices, not even worth it. The service was absolutely ABYSMAL, especially for a place that is charging top dollar for their food. I've had much better service at a sports bar! We tried to get help from no less than 4 different servers and we were ignored or apparently forgotten and no apology or acknowledgment was made. I would have given our experience 1 star but the beet salad was really good so it gets a star for yum. Definitely won't be back which is a shame since this has been a long-time favorite place, but when you're paying top dollar for a meal the service should reflect that. Firstly, we came upon this GEM accidental like as we got lost! LOL! No reservations, they had a cancellation and worked us in and let's just say it was Kizmet!! I'm going to start with the two best parts of our visit first! 1. Kira, our beautiful and talented waitstaff was AMAZING! I'm a self proclaimed seafood snob (born and raised in SE Alaska)...Kira convinced me to try the halibut...hands down the best halibut I've EVER had. I asked her to relay my enthusiam to the Chef. Chef Haller (Jeremy), came out to our table to visit with us and just made our evening. We also had chicken marsala and the Kobe beef appetizer...PERFECTION this guy is amazing! If my family was still in Food & Beverage I'd steal these two to work for me! :-) 3. Loved the layout and the whole vibe of this place! The decor, lighting and seating it really was such a treat after a crappy drive from Portland. 4. Entire staff, Hostpersons, Bartender like everyone was friendly and FAST! When we left and I got a better look at how big the place was and realized a few of our drinks were delivered by the Bartender (we thought maybe they had a runner) I was even more impressed, the place was packed. Visited last night- not overly impressed for the price. The service was meh- hostess was polite but the waiter was not attentive. Didn't even check to see if we were enjoying the meals or needed anything else. We ordered the tomahawk medium rare and it was too well done and the meat was tough. This isn't my favorite steak restaurant in Bend but definitely on the list of one of the top steak options. Went to Blacksmith for the 1st time based on the interior photos and menu...but: - were sat in a side room next to the bathrooms [not actually in the "restaurant"]. - that would almost be tolerable but the Halibut cheeks special were overcooked and the Osso Buco I ordered [was plated beautifully] but must have been precooked and re-microwaved too long...dry and tasteless - only saving grace was a good bottle of wine and our server, Ivy, was very personable. WOW! Where do I begin. My boyfriend and I were in Bend for a early birthday celebration / work trip and last minute decided to do a fancy dinner date. After reading the reviews we settled on the Blacksmith and truly had an incredible experience. The staff was beyond kind and attentive, the food was timely, hot, and more than worth the price, and the experience was phenomenal. As someone who works in hospitably I don't often walk away impressed but I 100% was with the Blacksmith. Our server Katie really was the best part of my experience. I'm pretty excited to write this review. We called a little last minute to make reservations here, probably around 4pm for a 8pm reservation on a Saturday night, so it was cool to be able to get in. They ended up calling us around 7 and saying we could come in anytime we wanted, which was even better. Our table was ready when we got there, and the service was excellent. The restaurant has a really nice "fancy restaurant" vibe and was very clean. All around, absolutely no complaints or knocks there...but...when you're charging $25 for a burger, the food better match the ambiance, etc. Well, it totally did. First off, the soup of the day was a salmon chowder, which was really good. The base was thinner than I anticipated, but the chowder had great flavor and they didn't skimp on the salmon. The meal I ordered, along with a few others in my group, was the Northwest Ribeye with a side of truffle fries. Just typing this out is making me drool. The steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and had a ton of flavor. It was amazing for the first bite to the last. The mushroom sauce they spread over the steak had so much flavor, I ended up using every last drop for my fries. The horseradish mashed potatoes were excellent, I couldn't have thought they would be so good. The truffle fries were solid, but I think I'd probably just go with the regular fries next time, especially considering that most of them ended up being dipped in that mushroom sauce. We ate a lot of good meals on this trip, but this is the one I'll remember, and we'll absolutely come back here when we return to Bend. read more

We have been in Bend almost two years now and haven't been impressed anywhere we have gone for dinner. The Blacksmith service is simply outstanding. We sat at the bar as our table was not ready- drinks order and made right away- with waters offered- about half way through our beverages listening to a live two group band behind us we were moved to the dining room- the decor is in my opinion masculine- I like it. Dark, brick, rock, leather. The complementary rosemary bread and that balsamic sauce!!! Mmmm coriander- nice touch. Mains- I got the scallops and risotto-- sweet sweet scallops perfectly cooked, risotto AMAZING. Husband- steak and truffle fries amazing sauce on the bottom, chimmichurri on the fries. The flavor on that steak was simply mouth watering. We didn't have room for desert but plan to return as table side firey deserts were starting as we left. This is the way I look at it- we had four tasty beverages, delicious well cooked food and enough to leave full-perfect portions. The service alone made me want to go back- Since moving here we have spent 70-80$ on shit service and mediocre food and beverages.
