We had the absolute BEST meal we have ever had last night at The Blacksmith in Bend. Compliments to Chef Bryan Chang! Service was phenomenal and the food was even better. We were so hungry we forgot a picture of the amuse-bouche and were half way through the soup We had: *Hotter Pink & Hot Peach Lemondrop *Radish, goat cheese, and picked veggie amuse-bouche (made just for us since we can't have fish) *Cream of Potato Soup (we shared and that was HARD) *Henry McKenna 10 year manhattan flight- as a Manhattan drinker this was A TREAT! I loved all 3 of the bitters, but hibiscus coriander was my fave *Four Gingers Only- although he's not a ginger Willie loved this one. The mint wasn't overpowering and the ginger/orange garnished gave awesome aromatics. *Rogue Mignon- PERFECTION. I Have never had a better balanced steak plate. I darn near licked the plate, the potato sauce was so unique! *Northwest Ribeye- Willie was in Heaven. Beautifully cooked and sauced with mushrooms even I liked! (He subbed the horseradish mash for the garlic mash ) *Tillamook Mac & Cheese with Bacon and White Truffle Oil.... OH EM GEE. Pretty sure this was kissed by the gods. We may go back for more. No joke. *Horseradish Mash- I like it a lot, It wasn't as smooth as the garlic mash, but put horseradish in anything and I'll eat it. *Wild Orchid- YUM dessert in a glass basically. Tasted like a Marionnerry pie! I was really excited for the flamed orange peel, but it arrives extinguished *Strawberry Fields- Simple yet different, or least favorite of the cocktails but great if your looking for something light *Bread Pudding- Willie says: rich, silky, perfect vanilla ice cream, and salted caramel nom nom nom. *Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée- I can't resist! Creme was perfect, the top was a little over brûléed, but it was closing time. Just chipped it off and ate the good parts Total bill: $231 (pre tip) We paid over $400 at Gordon Ramsay, couldn't eat the Mac n cheese, didn't get dessert, and only had 2 mediocre cocktails. I just recently move from LA and have eaten at 7 of the "top 10" steak houses during my time living there. This EASILY competes. My spouse and I shared a 35 ounce tomahawk steak, with fried Brussel sprouts with bacon, Mushrooms, potatoes and my personal favorite, the crab Mac and cheese. On top of the absolutely delicious food, the service was also immaculate. I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

It's not too often that I give five stars. But I could find no fault here. Ambiance was lovely, waitstaff attentive, happy hour wine was good with generous pours! Hubs liked his old fashioned too. My steak made me moan out loud ( oops). I also ordered fried brussel sprouts which were more like fried brussel sprout leaves- so not quite what I was expecting, but delicious nonetheless. This restaurant does not disappoint! Hands down the best Chicken Marsala and the tomahawk steak was to die for. I would also highly recommend the beef carpaccio and the fried green tomatoes as starters. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, professional and did an outstanding job. Was here about a year ago and it was just OK. Coworkers recently raved about the Tomahawk Steak. As it was a special occasion, we gave it another try. Had a 5:45 reservation and we were seated promptly. Ordered the Crab corn dogs and Steamed Clams for appetizers. They came out quickly (within. 10 minutes), and were good. We ordered the Tomahawk steak. the Parisian Gnocchi, and the Mediterranean Salad. It took about 30 minutes for the three entree items to arrive, about 25 minutes of down time from finishing the appetizers.... Not Good... The food arrived hot. The Parisian Gnocchi was good, The salad was also very nice and lite. The Steak, however, was another story. It was presented well, but that was it. Ordered medium rare which it was. It was very tough.. Lots of gristle and not a lot of meat. Advertised at 30 ounces, I would be surprised if the actual edible, chewable meat was more than 10 ounces. I was very disappointed. A steak from sizzler would have been preferred, especially for the Price$$$. The side was Spinach. Was so overly seasoned that it was inedible. Texture was good, but flavor was Bad.... Had the Brownie for Desert, it was probably the best dish of the meal.... The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because of the Gnocchi, the salad, and the Brownie.... I have no reason now after 1 so-so experience, and 1 bad experience, to go back, and will not be recommending it to friends or family who come to visit.. read more

This place was absolutely horrible. I went here for a pre birthday dinner with a friend and I wish I hadn't. I had the Surf and Turf, out of filets. I chose another cut. Phenomenal experience from start to finish. It is our anniversary, they left long stem roses on our menus and had ice water poured when we arrived. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful, service was friendly and wonderful without being overbearing. The steak was completely tender and delicious with a very unique steak knife. So we just had one of the best meals we've had in a long time! My taste buds are doing a happy dance and I keep on thinking about this great experience over and over again. We made a reservation for an early dinner. The table was ready when we arrived and we were seated right away. We started with a couple of starters. Crab studded corn dogs that was served with caper tarter sauce and fried green tomatoes topped with a very a tasty chicken salad, roasted corn and the tastiest smokey sauce. It was beyond this world good. The tomato was so juicy and the crust was just delicious and flaky. The crab corn dogs was just a bite of goodness. The caper tarter sauce added some complexity to the bite. For dinner I ordered the surf and turf and my husband ordered the northwest ribeye both medium rare. The fillet was served on top of a sea of petit scallops, crab and jumbo shrimps in a bed of creamy sauce. I have to say, I've never had a piece of steak this tender! It was so juicy and just melted in my mouth. The creamy sauce went well with the shrimp and scallops. It was a fantastic dish but my husbands order was beyond this world good! The ribeye was so tasty and it was topped with mushrooms and crispy onions. The mashed potatoes had a hint of horseradish but nothing too overpowering. For desert we ordered the fostered banana split and the brownies with a scoop of their house made chocolate ice cream. The brownies were chewy and gewey and just delicious. It was topped with a light and delicious peanut butter mousse, drizzled with chocolate sauce. The ice cream was light and creamy and paired well with the brownies. I'm glad I added that to the dish. The staff was so welcoming and nice and attentive as well. We left the black smith very satisfied and spent our drive home about the great experience we just had. The best part of my prime rib meal was the baked potato. The beef was tasteless and the side dishes either overcooked or over seasoned. My wife's rib eye was smothered in demi glaze sauce ruining the meat's flavor. The one highlight to the visit was our server, Ivy, she was friendly and very accommodating. We had a great meal here except a few minor missteps with the food. We came on a Friday night, visiting Bend for my fiancé's birthday. Very fine dining feel, which is exactly what we were looking for. To start, I had an old fashioned and he had a margarita, both were well poured and the margarita particularly was excellent. We had the cheese plate for the appetizer, and it was hands down the best cheese plate I have ever had. It came with several delicious cheese selections, a fruit spread, grilled bread that had the slight charred taste I love, and these amazing candied almonds. They also have delicious complimentary bread and a house made dipping sauce that was a balsamic and olive oil base and several other ingredients. It was fantastic. For our entrees, I had the pork chop, which was delicious (I do prefer bone in though and it wasn't), came with these really yummy thick polenta fries and brussel sprouts with bacon. The pork chop was cooked perfectly. My fiancé ordered the tender rogue which was a delicious tenderloin, cooked well, but besides the steak this plate had some problems. There was too much blue cheese atop the steak and with truffle potato sauce and the balsamic sun chokes and leeks that surrounded it; they were super delicious but far too rich. For dessert, we ordered the bread pudding to go and took it back to our hotel. It was the best bread pudding I have had in awhile but we did not care for the candied bacon it came with. Loved this restaurant! We understand that they just re-opened after almost 4 months closed. We have never been here before. We just moved to Bend 4 months ago! We will most definitely be back!! The filet mignon was one of the best I've ever had! Loved it! I didn't plan to eat all of it but I did! It was fork tender; perfectly prepared! The Caesar salad was unique and between the Parmesan crisp and the soft warm polenta croutons it was a big hit! My husband loved his BLT wedge salad. The desserts were off the chain! We took them home "to go" because we were too full to eat them at the restaurant. But all in all, it was our best dining experience in Bend, Oregon! We will be back again and again!!! Red bricks. Black leather. Glowing white bar. Not a child in sight. This is a place that I can imagine will polarize diners. I made a spur of the moment reservation and then started looking at the web site. I saw a selection of basic American food (chicken and biscuits, corndogs, meatloaf, creamed corn, smores), but presented in an oh so precious fashion. My husband is a salt-of-the-earth guy who likes good food, but neither of us appreciate pretension. And he'd been skiing all day so I was worried there wouldn't be enough food for the dear price we'd have to pay (visions of that commercial where the couple go to the convenience store after the fancy restaurant). But, here's how it went down.... Arrived early for our reservation (definitely make one) and they sat us right away at a cozy table for two. The waiter was the funniest guy I've ever had. Not funny, ha-ha, but funny like are we on Candid Camera? He looked like a butch version of Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), had a speech pattern like Christopher Walken and walked quickly with one arm tucked behind his back. Thus began his soliloquy, "I would LIKE to present to YOU our specials (long pause) for this EVEning...." This went on for about five minutes. My husband and I were exchanging looks and stifling laughter. Every cut of meat indicates which farm in Oregon it came from and everything is a very high-end interpretation of basic fare. I started making up questions, just to hear what would come out of the waiter's mouth. "Tell me about this salmon. Is it really from Tasmania?" "Salmon (pause) is out of SEAson (pause) in the northWEST, so it is FED exd daily from a wild MOUNtain stream...." Caring is sharing so we split a Sonora sushi appetizer (Kobe beef), garden salad, Tasmanian Salmon, New York Steak (with the Blacksmith steak sauce), grilled asparagus and the lemon meringue tart. It was plenty of food and everything was cooked to perfection. You could spend a ton of dough here, but I didn't get sticker shock based on what we ordered. They do offer a six-course tasting menu for around $80/person. We were dressed in jeans and totally fit in. Bend just isn't a formal kind of place. So this would be a pretentious place in other parts of the world, but I just found it charmingly wacky. The guy at next table was eating with his hands (no utensils for me, ma'am) and they didn't kick him out, so it was great dinner theater all around. When my husband was served his coffee, he leaned in and said "What the diners don't know is that their coffee has been replaced by Folger's crystals." I love that man! read more

My husband, and I wanted a nice ambiance for our 10 year wedding anniversary and he came to the conclusion this would be a great place to try. I was excited to try the surf, and turf meal while looking at the menu . It came with bay scallops, crab, and shrimp with a beautiful sauce that was buttery, and delicious- accompanying a nice juicy fillet. We also had the crispy Brussels sprouts with bacon, and OMG get those because they were next level good! My husband loved his ribeye with mashed potatoes. All of the things we tried exceeded our wildest hopes for a wonderful 5 star dining experience. To round it all off... our server was absolutely wonderful. She was helpful , bubbly, personable, and very attentive to our needs. She brought me three tastings of red wines per her recommendation upon my fumbling to pair properly with the surf and turf. One of Bend's best places to enjoy a nice meal. We like this place and have been there through the good times and not so good of times, yes they had a few dark moments in history. The food now is always well prepared and really fresh and healthy. Waitstaff is consistently great and seem to be into what they are doing. Happy hour is excellent. Dinner menu is not cheap but a fair exchange for Bend options downtown. Everything is good including their drinks. It was a 14oz but I'll bet only 4oz was meat and the rest was fat, I only got 2 good bites out of it. Most of our meal was late one of our party didn't get their guest until we were almost through with our steaks there was a ton of gristle in our steak, we don't mind that but gristle you just can't do through. Great atmosphere, excellent service. Dawn was AMAZING! I aksed about the burger and she said, "it makes her dance." I said, "well that confirms my choice." I got the burger with the dill Harvarti cheese and WOW!! I couldn't take a picture because it looked too delicious I was ready to eat it. And boy was it delicious! I have no words but WOW, WOW, WOW. my partner got the swordfish, which he said was good, very light. We also got the old fashion, the "four" gingers only and a Wahaka de Sol. The drinks were good, the Wahaka de sol, you could taste the vanilla extract so wasn't my favorite. I did get a dessert to go, because I'm a dessert gal. I got the brownie and vanilla bean ice cream. I ate it when I got back to my hotel (about 9mins away), heated the brownie up for about 30 secs and it was delightful. We would have gotten certain desserts if we were going to eat them there- the flan, banana foster or the bread pudding. Overall, the food was excellent and the service ( Dawn) was excellent as well! Took a group here for a retirement party while staying at Sun River. The restaurant is beautiful!! The food was very good, the waitstaff very attentive. We each received a chef sample, a small bite with Granny Smith apple, balsamic reduction and cheese. SO good!! I had the chicken piccata... divine one of our party had the Chilean sea bass and she enjoyed it. A couple had the surf and turf and they enjoyed it. I am not sure what is going on at the Resturant. The quality of food is not the same as it's been in the past years.
