My husband and I took a trip up to Michigan and looked for something to eat. We didn't want your basic restaurant or fast food place. We decided to try this place and glad we did. I got the tenders, fries, with two pieces of toast and my husband went with the chicken and waffles. I have to say that was the best chicken tenders I ever had. Hot, juicy, fresh and even after sitting for five minutes or more they were still hot. My husband loved the chicken that he ate it down to the bone leaving almost no meat on it. Loved the atmosphere and the staff were very kind and checked on us often. One thing I also loved was the unique way they labeled the restrooms. We will definitely come back when we can. read more

Definitely my new favorite place to eat! My family is big fans of Joe so I was super excited to visit this place. From the fries, pancakes to the stuff turkey legs everything was 10/10. The design of the restaurant was so cute & gives you that southern feel. Our server was excellent and the host was very sweet! We initially wanted mimosas and brunch but one thing to keep in mind is that this establishment does not have alcohol/cocktails. The food was so good I said forget the mimosas! read more

We are in town visiting family and of course we had to stop and get a meal before we connected. I did a quick search and came across this restaurant and I must say I cannot say anything crazy... 5 out of five stars!! I did read some reviews before we decided on this restaurant while the reviews were up and down the consensus in my mind, I'm going to see for myself. Our visit was on a Thursday, late morning. The traffic light ... We walked in and was seated within minutes Our waitress Daja was amazing Attentive the whole time informative, answered our questions and concerns The meals. Salad with blackenedsalmon and my mom ordered the Roxborough minus a few items All in all kudos to the chef and to our waitress for one taking the order as is and for the chef for being able to read and comprehend Our meals were bomb yall! My Mom meals are 99.5% incorrect when we dine out but on this day no issues at all! I highly recommend you try out this restaurant if you are in the area. Parking was a little bit challenging I did ride around twice before we parked across the street from the restaurant. The Ambiance inside gives a backyard Hometown feel very nice well lit it's just beautiful inside. My only side eye, I did notice one area that needed a bit of TLC but I'm sure they clean up the place thoroughly once everyone is out the restaurant. Busy place but it didn't take long to be seated. Very creative designs from the walk in looking like a boxing ring to the dining area looking like a neighborhood. Here from sunny California and this place was highly recommended during our last visit. We wanted to come yesterday but it was closed. We ended up going to Cornbread and it was a total disappointment. We've already been to Lilly Mae's so let's see what Joe Louis has going on. We came on a Tuesday afternoon and thankfully it wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. It's a lively vibe inside, and the 70's Motown music had me going down memory lane. They also have lighted up faux trees, and pictures of Joe Louis adoring the walls. We ordered the seafood skillet, fish sandwich with delicious seasoned fries, side of fried shrimp, banana foster, and banana pudding, Mannnnnn, everything was delicious and we can't wait to return in the near future. Just had one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time! The biscuit literally melted in my mouth--warm, soft, and absolutely delicious. The cheese grits tasted just like the ones my great-grandmother used to make, rich and full of flavor. And the eggs were REAL eggs, not powdered, which made such a difference. Honestly, everything on the plate was soooo good. The food was packed with flavor, the prices were reasonable, and the service was superb. Terrible pick-up experience. Ordered via Door Dash and the pre-pick up wait time was an hour, then once arriving, I had to wait another hour (which is ironic, considering they have an hour time limit for dine-in smh). Based on what I was told, the restaurant and Door Dash do not communicate directly about time expectations. This needs major improvement on the backend. Additionally, once getting the food, grease was everywhere; sausages were hard AF; and the French toast was dry. Delicious. We celebrated my friends birthday with breakfast. I'll start with the biscuits, delicious. So fluffy, I was amazed. My cousin had the seafood omelet which she said was delicious and my aunt had a regular omelet she loved. I had the skillet. We ordered two plates of wings and they were consumed in minutes. Perfectly seasoned and cookedvto perfection. I could eat wings all day. I had read other reviews about the space. I didn't see the boxing ring but I saw the front porch. Another Detroit favorite delivering a hearty breakfast! Be prepared to wait, no reservations. Also tip is included on weekends and large parties. There's a table limit for dining too. Named after famous Detroit boxer the diner showcases Joe Louis memorabilia in its bar tops which face the interior lobby waiting area only for dine in customers. You'll be seating inside of a boxing ring! Upon entering through the door, you're walking into the dining area which is built like the front of a house porch. Its truly unique structure and decor could be a museum exhibit! It was a bit confusing based on how the layout is. The hostess ask you to wait in the boxing ring hall area. Next 20 mins or so, came out to announce bar seating along the windows were open seating and asked for volunteers instead of just taking the next groups on the waitlist. Now to the menu, entrees are named in boxing lingo to follow the theme. It's a wide range of griddle, omelette, skillets with seafood options, salads, turkey legs and other southern influenced dishes. Chicken & waffles is what they're known for but biscuits and Cajun flavor is on the menu too! Our waiter, Paul, looked like he was hot but he was personable and provided what needed in spurts. We got our plates before silverware and my milk which I asked for delivery during my meal took a minute as well. I had to try the Martha's Seafood skillet.. it had all the ingredients I was in the mood for: shrimp, blackened salmon, potatoes, egg and spinach. Sound good. Every fork full was a party! It was sooo good. The dish overall was flavorful. The peppers, onions and hollandaise wrapped the dish up nicely. I added a side Red Velvet waffle (drizzled with cream cheese). Can we say jackpot! My son, granddaughter and I went around 1:30 on a Monday. I bragged to him and many others about this place after my first visit in January. Although there were many open tables, we had to wait about 25 minutes. Once seated, the waitress told us there would be quite a long delay to be served due to many others orders that were already placed. I respected her honesty but we decided not to wait any longer. The group next to our table also shared their dissatisfaction with the wait including the very limited menu items. We came here randomly after visiting Motown and thought we'd give them a try. I ordered the knockout catfish and my husband ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage and eggs. My fish was perfect and finally a pork free gumbo! My shrimp was cooked perfectly and I loved my fish. The only reason they aren't getting a 5 star review from me is because they put honey on the biscuits. Normally we would love it but under the gravy was shocking for us. First of all, I was horribly naive and had no idea who Joe Louis was, but was IN LOVE with the southern/front porch decor. A quick google search clued me into just how much of a legend Joe was! We went to my car to sit because limited seating in the waiting area. Upon returning to find out when will seats be available because we never received a text. The server stated she texted us which we never received. We sat 20 minutes no server acknowledge us to let us know that they were our server. One of the hostess proceed to take orders to a couple he seated after us. I approached he to let him know we were waiting 20 minutes prior to the couple he decided to service first. He was rude and stated he sorry for my frustration and he will take our order after placing their's. He demeanor is rude and disrespectful, we proceeded to leave the restaurant. I thought this was a place you can have dinner due to the name but when you look at the menu you can see the restaurant is catered to be more of a brunch spot. If I'm being honest when you go here pack on your patience! The first time I went I was fasting and just wanted a carry out of eggs and grits no meat. I placed my order and had to cancel it because I was late returning back to work. The customer was great and the staff were very apologetic. The next time I went it was my mother my daughter and I. We had reservations so although we had to wait a short while beyond our time we were seated timely. As before the staff was absolutely amazing. The food took a short wait and was well worth it. I was in here for a hour and a half, with some water because they don't serve alcohol. They always have a crowd, no matter the time or day. I hate their seating. They always trying to sit somebody in that window. Don't nobody wanna sit in the time out corner. I was so overstimulated with people walking back and forth past me the whole time I'm there. I definitely should've requested to sit in the higher up seating that was next to me. Took me all of 10 minutes to eat my food. The grits wasn't seasoned, eggs wasn't seasoned.
