My husband and I sat at the bar just to have a beer a check the place out. Have to say the service was horrible. We sat at the bar and both bartenders didnt even notice that we were there for a while and had nothing to drink sitting in front of us. Im not sure how they divide the walkups and the 6 patrons sitting at the bar. But we were very disappointed when those individuals were helped first by one tender then we had to actually ask for a drink from another one. Im not one to complaint, maybe the two tenders just got mixed up, but the one was obviously able, and with only 7 chairs thats what was odd. read more

I'd love to give this place 5 stars, I absolutely love this concept and would be a cool hang out to eat a variety of food and killer beer selection. Don't think I'm a terrible person here but there were a TON of kids there, it was like a McDonald's playland feel and walking your beer to your table was a sport in itself. GREAT for families but if your just a single no kid yet person and don't want kids playing hide and seek using your table as a hiding spot than this may not be your cup of tea. Again I love kids it was just a lot. I'm not a horrible person I promise, I was just looking for a cool chill place and this wasn't necessarily the place for that. This has been my favorite casual gathering place since it opened. Love their constantly rotating beer and cider list, and during the summer the mix of food truck fare is always interesting. The variety and number of food offerings scales back in winter, and the outdoor seating area isn't covered (though I understand they are planning that). Friendly staff, family-friendly atmosphere, and occasional live music. I hope they are a fixture here for years to come. read more

A wonderful alternative to fancy restaurants. We went on a non-weekend night and parking was easy. I love the concept of being able to peruse each truck's menu, then ordering and then sitting our in the open to have a leisurely meal. My hubby and I came here for dinner and a few drinks . They have a lot of options on beer , few on wine and cocktails . We saw 4 food trucks and most of them are my favorites like gators , el Roy's Mexican grill etc . Atmosphere is good and lively , they have a lot of seating and parking space too . I moved to CA from AZ last month and my boyfriend and I went here tonight to meet with some friends since we thought this would be a safe place to meet for outdoor dining. I never got to try it and never coming back again. I went to the bar to order a pitcher and when I gave the guy my ID, he had to have the manager take a look since it's an AZ license, which is reasonable that they have extra precautions when it's an out of state ID. Another lady came back and said "This is what's gonna happen. This is a fake, I'm taking it to the police and you can pick it up tomorrow, and you need to leave." It's a real ID and I'm a legal age, but apparently the security guard thought my ID was missing 3 symbols that AZ has on their IDs. It's not, and this place obviously hasn't trained their employees or security correctly. I practically emptied my wallet showing them several cards validating my name matching my ID. We asked for the manager several times and was told "No, you talk to me." They threatened to call the police, which I wish they actually would have had them come to validate my ID, because in the end, security returned it to me so they obviously realized they'd made a mistake, but were still telling us that we need to leave by 9pm if we stayed. I completely understand that businesses need to protect themselves, however the way the entire staff handled this was insulting, embarrassing and unprofessional. Loved this place!! Only wish is that the area they have for seating is expanded - they have a great thing going and need more room for the crowded days!! That being my only "complaint" isn't a bad thing though ;) My FAVORITE of all the trucks is Gators Rustic Burgers. I'm not a burger fan...at all. Growing up my family had burger night once a week, and I loathed that night. Burgers, meatloaf, meatballs...usually I hate it all. I don't know what he does to those burgers, but I even find myself craving them!! His buns are freshly made by the crew each day, the mushrooms...the aioli...all of it is simply to DIE for. Did I mention I normally HATE burgers? They're my husbands favorite food - so when he heard I loved them, he had to try them. And he even said it was the best burger he's ever had. Then the in-laws heard, and they had to try them, and low and behold... they too said they're the best burgers they've had. I figured maybe I'd grown out of my burger hating ways...so I ordered a burger at a restaurant...and only had a few bites. There's something special in whatever they're doing to those burgers...they're addicting and simply the best. There's a reason they usually sell out before closing...my advice? This past weekend my wife and family drop in for a beer and some great food. The Block is getting better and better with all the new food vendors. The place was busy but our server Caitlin, did a fantastic job on getting our beers to us ( no waiting). She took the time to explain "beer questions" to my wife. The only place open on Wednesday at lunch was Firetrail Pizza, the permanent restaurant, and it was fast, friendly, and very good. Nice atmosphere. I like hearing the mill running while nomming on hot pizza. read more

I can't believe it took us so long to pay this place a visit! We got there at 5:30 so I think we beat the dinner rush because it wasn't packed. The place is so cute with outdoor and indoor seating. There is even a fire pit! There were 3 food trucks and the stationary pizza shack. The pizza was pretty good and the price was average. I really wanted the fried chicken sandwich from the Bodega food truck but I couldn't justify spending $14 on a sandwich with a side of pickles! The sandwich looked amazing though! The rest of us had Mexican food from El Roys. It was great and not expensive. What I loved most about the Block is that the food trucks rotate and it is family friendly! I highly recommend this place as an alternative to regular restaurant dining. read more

This is our first time at "THE BLOCK" and although we came with the intention of grabbing something new & different to eat, we found ourselves grabbing EL ROYS which is & has been one of our all time favorite places to eat, at least every week or 2. Best Mexican Grill in town & food is absolutely to die for food!!! We came with our little ones this time around, but will definitely have to come back to sit & relax in their outdoor seating & try out their wife variate on tap ales, beers & they also have wine! Yes, this place is as awesome as you've heard. With a revolving list of trucks stopping by each evening (anywhere from 2-4), you get the opportunity to sample some of the best food trucks the county has to offer. The permeant fixtures - Firetail Pizza and the waterhole inside - are equally delightful. The bar generally has about 30 beers on tap and they are now open 7 days a week. The Block fills a much needed niche in Petaluma, the outdoor food car lot with an excellent tap room. You can head to Taps for good beer, Brewsters for more expensive food and beers, but why not head to the Block where you can get several types of food and a rotating list of excellent beers and ciders while enjoying the outdoors? Heat lamps are excellent for chilly nights, TV screens are good for when the game is on, restrooms and seating are well maintained and comfortable. They have the best beer taps in Petaluma, something like 40 different taps. Plus they have a decent wine and hard cider selection. There are heaters all over the place so even after the sun goes down you stay warm. Definitely the place I am going to be at the most from now on. read more

It's good if you go on a Friday or Saturday night. However, I went with my family last Sunday and it was a major let down. There was only 1 food truck: wings. We don't even eat wings. Luckily they had one sandwich on the menu to go with the wings which took forever because the pager they gave us didn't work. When we finally went to check on it, it was cold. I also was hoping to get a salad from the pizza place that's always there but no salads listed. I asked and the guy who first said no, they don't have salads. Then he went to ask someone and said yes we have salads. I asked what salads do they have? He said to look at the list on the building. I told him there's no list. Then we went to ask again. Came back to say yes we have this salad...I said is that it? Then he said, no, we also have this other salad. So I pick one. It's ready but no salad dressing. I had to go back to ask for it and then had to wait for them to get me 1 tiny dressing for a big salad. All the food was totally meh. Plus all the tables were very dirty. Lots of crying kids everywhere too. We probably won't go back unless meeting up with friends on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

1 st time in this evening. Sat down in the screened in area and after 5 min a waitress took drink our order. My wife went and ordered food and came back to the table. My daughter and myself then went and ordered food from different trucks. I got my wife's food and brought it in to her (still no drinks) a little while longer our orders were ready and we came back to the table... still no drinks. I went and stood in line and got the drinks myself... WHILE OUR "WAITRESS" was ordering and carrying out drink orders for other patrons. No kidding, 10 minutes after I brought our drinks to the table, our "waitress" pops in and asks if we want to close out our check!!!! Really? I calmly told her I got the drinks myself because she must have forgot us. She said "no, the bartenders threw out your ticket".... ???? What ticket were you coming to close out??? No apology, utterly indifferent. She did offer to get another round when we were ready.... but, go figure, she gives zero eye contact the couple times she happened to come within 20 feet. So I once again got up and stood in line.... You REALLY need more help and please, please TRAIN YOUR SERVERS!!!!
