The host was so excited and when a restaurant asks that you expect something fun for the graduation but nothing happened. Not a fun dessert, a fun plate with writing, a card, nothing. Highly disappointed fora white tablecloth restaurant. I would not recommend coming to celebrate here for that reason alone. Drinks took a while to come out. We were on the patio and our server was all over the place due to the table next to us being rude and picky to him. Delicious food though! My first time here even though I lived in Tallahassee for 4 years. The cornbread that was with the burnt ends... the best cornbread I've had in my life. Incredible. Our first visit to The Blu Halo will not be our last. Walking in without a reservation this beautiful Sunday afternoon, we were immediately greeted by friendly customers as well as a welcoming hostess who escorted us to our table in the semi private barrel room. There we met Brandi who would take exceptional care of us. We started with the warm brie topped with honeycomb, praline pieces, fresh fruit and a macerated fruit drizzle, accompanied by toasted pita triangles. We shared an 850 salad to accompany original eggs benedict and the shrimp lo boy boil alongside of a perfectly seasoned Bloody Mary. Unable to finish our meals, Brandi accommodated us with to go containers so that we didn't miss a morsel. We went for Father's Day brunch having booked indoor reservation over a week in advance only to be seated outside in warm and humid environment that gradually worsened. The wait staff clearly want to even go outside and I could hardly blame them. The manager certainly never bothered. When someone did come outside to look our way I asked if they could remove some used plates and was told "your waiter should do that, I'll go tell them" it made me wonder what their purpose was as they were clearly not management. The food was below average and many of the choice items (oysters, seafood) were gone already. It looked like they likely opened the buffet at 11ish and never replenished much so by the time we started most items were cold, sparse or gone. My son saw my building anger and went to the manager who gave him what seemed like a pitifully small discount for such a bad experience which didn't even cover the mandatory 20% service charge for basically NO service. They should have been apologizing to all of us and comping future meals to make an attempt at recovery. Maybe this place is better in the evening and air conditioned inside... who knows but after just moving back to Tally I see no reason to ever try this place again. read more

I CAN FEEL YOUR BLU HALO | my parents told me there was a new spot to grab brunch in town and took me to The Blu Halo. I have never been for dinner but their weekend brunch has been pretty good without a wait for a table, which is rare for the weekend. They allow well-behaved dogs in their outdoor patio! Service is a little on the slower side on the patio but everyone is super nice. We have loved our servers both times we have brunched here. We have tried most of the dishes on the menu, with my favorites being the vanilla bean Belgian waffle, if you have a sweet tooth, the blackened shrimp & grits if you're team savory, and if you want something savory AND sweet, the sticky chicken and waffle. Overall, The Blu Halo is a solid spot for brunch if you're looking to avoid an hour-long wait to eat! They need an iced coffee! On my first visit in 2022 they were able to provide us with iced coffee but last year they told us they did not have it anymore. I went ahead with some hot coffee but it's a bit rough drinking hot coffee outside on a warm summer morning in Tallahassee. They do get their coffee from Lucky Goat which is my favorite local coffee spot. read more

I've always had brunch which never disappoints but I decided to have my birthday dinner here and it was the most delicious meal! The Bowden burger was cooked to medium well perfection and I'm a sucker for crispy wedge fries. The mussels were fresh and the buttery garlic sauce had me taking notes for my own recipe. For dessert I had the flourless chocolate cake and it was so good I almost ordered one more to go. I also ordered a virgin Blu Halo Cosmo and it was the perfect choice. Overall the service was wonderful, the atmosphere is always beautiful and friendly and our server Patrick was kind and attentive. 10/10 as always. read more

Mothers Day Brunch today was absolutely amazing! The prime rib carving station had everything from pork tenderloin, potatoes, green beans, biscuits and gravy, cheese grits, eggs Benedict. All over the top delicious. Then there was an omelet station, and a seafood table with ahi tuna, shrimp, oysters, and desert section. My complimentary mimosa hit the spot. My husband and I were amazed at how delicious it was, and the service was superb. If you missed out this year you need to plan on next year! My Mother's Day was extra special. read more

A couple of weekends back, we randomly ended up at The Blu Halo. This wasn't planned. This was on the sole desire of my companion wanting to eat a good, juicy steak. He originally wanted to go somewhere else, but since I hate that place, we went to The Blu Halo. Called and made a reservation, but apparently they also take reservations on OpenTable, so something to keep in mind. We went and the restaurant wasn't as fancy as I thought it'd be. I think that's in general of Tallahassee though. No need for suit and tie, but you should probably stay away from blue jeans, unless they're very dark. The menu is a page or so. Not the huge menu books I'm used to, but that's okay. You go to The Blu Halo for what it is: a protein lover's dream. I say that as they have quite a few seafood dishes on the menu, plus steak galore. As it turns out, we both got filet mignon and the accompanying mashed potatoes. I ordered mine medium well for once because the menu told me they don't do well done or rather that it was not recommended. That already annoyed me. The steak was fine though, the mashed potatoes to me admittedly better. I didn't feel I enjoyed this meal as much as I should have. They had a dessert menu to boot, and well, I regretted not getting a blueberry cheesecake item to go. Whenever I return, it'll probably be for that. Honestly, I've had better steak, and well done, too, which yes, I know I will get hate for, but I don't care. I rather eat somewhere else that doesn't poke at my preferences. read more

Update to a previous positive review made a while back (great brunch experience). I am of the opinion that each restaurant visit should be the same level of "enjoyment" - that the food and the service should be consistently good, regardless of the visit. My last visit to this restaurant was not very positive. Though the hostess was nice enough, the service went downhill from there. Once we were seated, it took an unusually long period of time to be recognized by a server; and then longer still to get our order in. I would understand if the place was crowded - but it wasn't. Plus, there seemed to be several waitresses/waiters on hand. Not sure if the shortage was among the kitchen staff, but no one mentioned this, so I will assume that was not the case. There were only 4 people at our table, so it was not as if there was a large party of us to serve. We ordered "deviled" eggs, cinnamon rolls, and Bradley biscuits and gravy to start. Our entrees were blackened shrimp and grits, sticky chicken and waffles, and the egg white scramble with fruit (which was my entree). We enjoyed the starters and my table mates enjoyed their entrees. It seems I was the odd "woman" out this time. After the long wait and having to practically chase down our server a couple of times, I was the last one to receive my order, which included turkey sausage. I immediately recognized that the sausage wasn't turkey as requested, but was Bradley's sausage, which I understand is very good. However, I don't eat pork. When I asked about the turkey sausage, the server apologized and said she'd have the kitchen correct the order. Well, there was another long wait. By the time my order did come, the others at the table had nearly finished their food, which I insisted they eat and not wait on me - specifically since I was still working on some of the appetizers. When I finally took notice of my eggs, I realized that my wheat toast was soggy from the "juices" of the scrambled eggs. I didn't dream about sending the order back in that it would have taken even more time. The good thing about this visit was that I enjoyed spending time with my colleagues. Came here for brunch. Really nice ambiance here, upscale feel. Really enjoyed everything, was really tasty. Only negative is the portion sizes seemed a little small for the price, that being said I would return maybe for dinner this time as some in our party had been for dinner prior and had only good things to say. While the location and ambiance is nice, the food is mediocre at best. For the price, the quality and service should be there but all of that is lacking. We did not have reservations but were seated immediately. The food took at least 45 minutes to arrive and it was not hot at all. You could tell some plates had been sitting on the warmer for quite awhile. The chef must be a huge fan of black pepper because every dish was loaded with black pepper. The chicken tenders on the chicken and waffles were seasoned heavily with black paper. The "ketchup" that comes with the fries were seasoned with black pepper. While I wouldn't come back for brunch, I'd definitely come back for their amazing carrot cake and that was the saving grace of this dining experience. read more

Thursday night, 5:45p reservation. We were whisked through a wide door way into a large room that smelled of sewer gases. When we told the hostess we couldnt tolerate the odor, she seemed shocked and left us standing in the room while she found the manager - we walked ourselves back towards the entrance into fresh air. The manager stated he didnt smell anything and behaved as if he were "shocked" and had never heard anyone comment on the odor. We waited quietly, he eventually let us know that finding us a table (at many of the vacant tables) would require effort beacuse of "reservations". We were eventually seated next to a window near the hostess stand, and ordered a ribeye, a salmon entree & grouper entree. Steak was good, not worth $66 - the fish entrees had nice flavor, which was over powered by excessive salt. The bar was busy, and there was live music (which wouldn't be loud in the back room). 2 years later and The Blu Halo is still at the top of my list! Of course I had to get the Triple P Chicken! The breading is amazing! And the chicken is cooked to perfection and laid over a bed of mashed potatoes and greens. The goat cheese and dressing add a great touch! My partner got the chef's special with chicken wrapped in prosciutto on top of mashed sweet potatoes and he really enjoyed it! It doesn't matter where I go, I'm going to find a place to have a great brunch! A trip back to my hometown area is not exempt. I'm a sucker for a great ambiance, and The Blu Halo certainly provided that. The sophisticated atmosphere instantly heightened my expectations, and I was not disappointed. Drinks: i had a single mimosa. However, the champagne used here is not ideal for me, so I wouldn't get it again unless there's a change in the sparkling component. Food: as an appetizer, we shared the cinnamon rolls. They were really good. Not too rich, not too sweet, but the perfect blend of both. I also ordered the soup of the day which was beer cheese soup. It reminds me a lot of queso dip, but with a looser/more soupy consistency. It was also very good. Now for the star of the show, the chimichurri steak and eggs. Honestly, this was the best steak and eggs I've ever had! Opted for scrambled eggs instead of fried, and I'm glad I did. All of the flavors blended well together and it was so delicious I did a happy dance! The accompanying potatoes were very well seasoned which perfectly added to the flavor profile. Yes yes yes! Talk about some damn good food! Was taken here to celebrate my birthday this month and I honestly enjoyed my experience. Although I wasn't offered a birthday dessert :( , dinner and drinks made up for it. The ribeye was cooked to my preference; it was well seasoned and was large (fit for a queen [me]). The au gratin was also very delicious. The salmon (which was not on the menu) needs to be on the menu permanently. Just wow. The mix of flavors, nothing short of outstanding. The restaurant decor is chic and inviting. My server was really pleasant and attentive, although we did not catch his name. My experience last night left my friend unimpressed so I wasn't going to write a review. She's a "local" and I am JUST VISITING.......But I have to rave about the leftovers I just reheated and boy oh boy, were they good! My meal last night was a salad with blue berries and strawberries and goat cheese. It was like most salads I have had before with goat cheese. It wasn't bad. It was pretty good and there was enough of it. A girl can't eat a ton of goat cheese. It was just enough thank you! So why am I reviewing this place? Don't go for the food unless you like the Shrimp and Mac concoction. My friend and I split it last night but we were both full because they served it with our meals. Probably a good thing. She got Grouper and said it wasn't firm or very good. I got the previously discussed salad with goat cheese and until I got home today and decided to eat my left overs, I'd forgotten the food last night. But the atmosphere is phenomenal! I like it. We were more interested in talking and catching up with each other so we sat outside of the main barstool/table area in a booth. Or waitress gave us a ton of attention despite the large group seated in the middle of the room. She made great drink recommendations and my friend's drink looked amazing. I enjoyed the house wine. It was exactly as promised and I don't drink much so if I am going to have it - it better be GREAT. It was..... Any way, I agree with others that the music in the front room is too loud. Save all that for the 12 midnight diners but most of us just want some pleasant back ground grooves. Although the guy playing when we arrived had a voice like Elvis Costello. Soooo good! We went on a Saturday about 7pm when the FSU game was going on so we didn't have to worry about a crowded restaurant. Service was fast, the food was great! I really enjoyed the smashed potatoes solely because of the amazingggg sour cream with horseradish. My meat was cooked to perfection and the scallops appetizer was great as well. We waited at the bar for our table so I had a margarita and it was on point and very tasty. Bartender takes their job seriously and does it well. Had the filet tips to start , creative twist with pineapple in a mini pot. Very tasty, slightly more cooked than my liking but I order rare steaks so I am not the best judge. Had the boneless rib eye rare+ Oscar style and it was cooked perfectly with a ton of flavor. I wish the server (who was great) would have informed me that they smother the Oscar in their yummy Bernaise sauce but I still enjoyed every bite of my steak. My colleague had the Chilean sea bass and he said it was fantastic. Great ambiance and great food. Reasonably priced. Small enough to have an intimate vibe but not too small. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for so long. We decided to plan a date night here. Upon getting there, we were seated in the back (near the restroom).Our server came and took our drink orders. The drinks were sour and tasted like a bunch of bitters, and the food took about an hour to come out, even without a large crowd. We also noticed that it seems that they put all of the people of color in the back of the restaurant. The service was subpar, and we truly felt that we were placed in the back and forgotten about. When the food did come out, my pork chop, and my husbands steak was charred and tasted like dirty grill. The lobster Mac & cheese was dry and really isn't a true lobster Mac and cheese. I always enjoy my time here. Last night DJ took great care of our birthday party of 4. On Monday they have a prefixed menu with three courses for $25 or four for $30. I am not eating meat for Lent so I improvised and had salad, a slight larger portion of of the butternut squash ravioli which was light and delicious and the carrot cake, also quite tasty. I got there with minutes to spare for happy hour and tried the Blu Cosmo, which I wasn't crazy about but downed them any way. All in all a great time, company and service. read more

We had a truly marvelous brunch at Blu Halo this past Sunday. We made reservations but were running late, so called ahead to let them know. When we arrived we were seated immediately by a cheerful staff member. Within a few minutes, our waiter David stopped by to greet us and get a drinks order. Though his hands were full he took the time to offer me a mocktail (I'm pregnant) and chat warmly. The food was delicious - we ordered the fruit plate (very fresh!), the deviled eggs, a salad with grilled chicken, and the chicken and waffles. Everything was perfectly cooked and delivered promptly. The cocktails (and mocktail) were well balanced and beautifully garnished. The excellent eats paired with an upbeat ambience left us giddy and chatting throughout. I think we just ordered the carrot cake so we had an excuse to stick around and chat some more with David. He was so attentive and helpful and a delight to talk to without feeling intrusive. We WILL be back, and David will be requested!! Way to go, Blu Halo! read more
