If they want to bring the great NYC and Chicago steakhouses to Bluffton, the owner and chef should review their cuts of meat, seasoning, and overall presentation. Dinner in a booth fun. Jeff Congdon and company run a great ship. Ginger has been our waitress couple times and is excellent. See bartender Bob for great cocktails at a very comfortable bar. Rib eye and filets are great, but so is their Dover Sole. Watch out for their French fries...really good... as are the oysters. Great wine list. They also have a very reasonable corking fee. Valet parking nice touch especially in Bluffton. Worth the cost. Go! read more

Best meal I had during my visit to Bluffton- would highly recommend this restaurant! We had the grilled octopus, the Greek salad with whipped feta, the chargrilled artichoke, the 5 onion soup special and the charred Cesar salad and limoncello shrimp bruschetta and all were absolutely delicious! For entrees we had the veal chop which was cooked PERFECTLY, the Sheepshead fish special which was so tasty I wanted to lick the plate and the Norwegian grilled salmon. We also had a side of the horseradish mashed potatoes which were impossible to stop eating! Unfortunately we had no room left for dessert because both the cookie skillet and the table side bananas foster not only looked great but smelled out of this world! Disappointed in service/food. The prices are not in line with the culinary food experience expected. Food served cold or not at all but eventually after asking. Timing was completely off. The optimal steak and dining experience. Our visit to The Bluffton room with our party of 6 was a party for our palettes. We enjoyed many fine suggestions offered by our handsome and knowledgeable waiter Ben from the before dinner cocktails to the wine to the dessert. Some points of excellence were the charcuterie board with roasted grapes , the creamiest of Brie and blue cheeses and the quail eggs. Dinner for 6 included a white salmon, several cuts of steak and wonderful sides. The mussels are not to be missed as a starter. They will leave you asking for more bread to soak up their special sauce. We added the finale of Bananas Foster and a decadent dark and rich brownie to share even though our bellies were full. The table side creation of the Foster is something to be seen as your waiter will carefully prepare it for you. The desserts are all homemade and of course, bellies full, we left not a scrap. You will not be disappointed when you make the choice to head to the Bluffton Room for your special occasion or a simple nightly dinner. read more

We weren't approached at any time during that 45 wait. When we complained we were treated poorly. Food not worth the wait. Please develop a better business model. The manager never appeared. Absolute great evening. First, a little secret, if you go on Wednesday evening, they have a burger special at the bar. But, this is not your regular burger - this is a burger that is now ranked easily in my top ten all time best burger list. Perfect med rare cook, Duke's (yes!) mayo, grilled onions, etc....you have so many choices of cheese, toppings, and sides. Served with fries that are also delectably crispy. Mike, the bartender, is a very talented mixologist as well as a super nice guy. Service was top notch. I haven't lived all that long in Bluffton. More than one person had recommended I dine at The Bluffton Room as it was one of the finest restaurants in Bluffton. These same individuals consistently mentioned that Wednesday night was a great night at The Bluffton Room as it was Burger Night. On a Wednesday night I arrived by myself at 6 pm. I was shown to a table which I appreciated as the bar was full. I ordered a glass of wine and decided to order a hamburger. When I gave my order I was informed that because I was seated at a table that I couldn't order a hamburger. According to my waiter as well as the maitre'd, The Bluffton Room doesn't want to be known for serving hamburgers. That is why you have to sit at the bar in order to have a hamburger. Apparently people start lining up well before 5 pm in order to get a seat at the bar, so they can order a hamburger. One might go as far as to say that what happened to me is referred to "bait and switch." For all the hoopla this restaurant receives as far as the fine food, etc. I find it humorous that not one person who spoke of the restaurant neglected to mention burger night. There's also a mussel night on Thursday night, if you're interested. In the end, it's abundantly clear to me that The Bluffton Room IS regarded as a restaurant to frequent in the event that you want to dine on a burger. The trade off is you will have to get to the restaurant before 5 pm, so you can sit at the bar to order a burger. In my opinion, that's a little reminiscent of having to take part in a cattle call. Very disappointing. Moved here a year ago and was eager to try this lovely place out. Met a couple friends for lunch. Was disappointed at the very limited lunch choices. Ordered short rib tacos with Frittes. The tacos meat was tasteless, lukewarm and stringy . The frittes were limp and soggy. Received the wrong bill and thats the end of my experience. Chef Jeff is serving chargrilled oysters that rival Acme Oyster House in New Orleans! All of his food is creative and delicious and he is such a personable guy. Excellent wine list as well. Unfortunately, not the experience we expected....we tried TBR tonight for a new experience. The food was average, the service was horrible, and the value was not good. Overpriced and an underdeveloped staff to boot. When offering some constructive criticism, the staff had no idea who was in charge and no idea who owned TBR. I would like to have provided this comment either in person or by email, but TBR offers no opportunity to easily comment using other forms of communication. Since we live locally, we'd love to see this business succeed, but given the performance tonight I doubt it. Don't waste your time or $$$$ on this place. read more

Wow. This has to be one of the best meals I've had out in at least 2 years. Went on a date night with my wife while on vacation. We hail from CT and are spoiled for choices. We have not had great luck with restaurants on Hilton Head, so we took a short drive to Bluffton. I had the elk special and it was amazing. Great cocktails and wine/beer selection. Is it just because there aren't good restaurants in the area that people think this one stands out? The quality of the beef was not good and the tuna carpaccio was sub par. I will give a plug for the mashed potatoes and artichoke appetizer though, but we certainly expected more with the main courses. The staff was not particularly welcoming or friendly either, especially when they questioned us on the age of our youngest child, ensuring he was 13 years old. Really? I would highly recommend The Bluffton Room! My experience here was by far one of the best. We ordered the Caesar salad (which they prepare from scratch table-side), scallops, the baby (which is the filet), bananas flambé, and wine of course. The Caesar salad was delicious and a very generous portion with a bit of a nice peppery kick. The scallops were perfectly cooked with great flavor. The filet was seasoned and cooked perfectly, the flavor was amazing. It also came with onion potatoes and vegetables that were just as great. For dessert we ordered the bananas flambé, also prepared table-side, which came with vanilla bean ice cream. The presentation and taste were amazing! The portion sizes were just right and filling. Prices were average for a fine dining restaurant. We dined at the bar and had excellent service. Before arriving we called ahead to make a reservation as they are usually very busy, we were told that they only had a very late opening so we opted to go and try to find seats at the bar. Upon arrival the bar was full, but the hostess at the door offered to take our phone number and text us when seats became available at the bar. We went across the street for a drink and about 15 min later received a text informing us seats were ready - amazing service! I will definitely be back at The Bluffton Room soon! read more

We tried The Bluffton Room for dinner. I love the decor and feel of the room. It felt like a warm and inviting room with lots of interesting people. We decided to sit at the bar because my husband hates sitting at a table with his back to the room. It turned out to be a good choice. The drinks were great and the food terrific. We decided to graze and ended up sharing several dishes. The artichokes and scallops were great starters. We also shared Brussels sprouts as a side, and an order of oysters. This new restaurant was so disappointing. It has a very cool bar, but the food was very expensive. The steak was good, the cauliflower was overcooked, and the artichokes were a nice surprise. The kitchen was pretty slow and the patrons at the bar very noisy. There are excellent alternatives on Bluffton. Try May River Grill, Siglers, or R&D Wines for an innovative wine bar. For the adventurous, head the 40 minutes to the delicious Old Bull Tavern in Beaufort - absolutely delicious! read more

Our meal was good. The service was great...Ken was terrific. I just don't think the price tag matches the meal and experience we had. Bluffton is a pretty laid back place, and I think the Bluffton room is trying to be the " finer" restaurant in town. I appreciate the attempt, but when I have to spend $120 on a bottle that retails for about $70, I got an issue with that. We had a lovely booth, but were told upon arriving (5:30 was the only reservation I could get) that we had to be out within an hour and 40 minutes... it sort of set the tone. This is by far the BEST restaurant in the Lowcountry. They have service that is second to none. They let you take your time. The food is always cooked to perfection. We went last Saturday and I had the petite filet, medium rare. It was perfection. The bananas foster are to die for and the presentation gets a gasp from me every time they light it on fire. There really is no comparison in the area for fine dining. My partner and I went into this dinner with kindly low expectations. Everyone in my family that has been to the Bluffton room before told us not to go, but we decided to give it a fair shot. It was her birthday and our anniversary dinner of choice, which we had noted with our reservation. The hostess mentioned it when we walked in and our waiter mentioned as well did the manager when he came to see how we were enjoying our dinner. With as highly praised as this restaurant has been in other reviews, we were quite disappointed with how it turned out. Our waiter took forever to get to us to even take our drink order. He told us we would be getting bread when he came back to take our order, which we didnt receive until half way through our main course. It ended up being an under proofed and under baked olive loaf (gross, no one wants strong flavored olives in their bread. Especially with their main course). We ordered the grilled octopus and their house soup that day, which were both VERY delicious. Next up was the table side, Caesar salad. Let me tell you, the salad is the main reason why this restaurant received 3 stars for my review instead of 1 star. It was the best salad I've ever had and would be the only thing I would go back for. Our entrees were underwhelming to say the least, especially for the price point. I ordered the duck, which came over cooked with soggy skin with a side of burnt to a crisp onions and ~maybe~ three small pieces of fingerling potatoes. All for $30ish dollars. My partner ordered a prime strip loin steak, which cost $52 for just the cut of meat and no sides. It was over cooked and extremely under seasoned. The sides she ordered were also over cooked and mushy. With that being said, the food was mediocre and the service was even worse. Our waiter started off by telling us how (at a previous restaurant) he was upset with a table he had so he just ignored them and avoided them the whole time so he wouldn't have to serve them. Which he then disappeared from our table for a long while. We witnessed the bartender loudly making fun of and bullying the bus boy who worked there also. He made everything extremely uncomfortable and dramatic. He even had to run back to scream at the chefs multiple times because customers were receiving their main courses well before their appetizers. The hostess was nice and the manager was okay. We didn't receive anything for my partners birthday or our anniversary. I see this as bad customer service as well as a way to stop people from returning to the restaurant. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're into extremely raised wine prices (they charge $34 for a $9.99 bottle of wine), horrible service, very little to no light, and mediocre food. read more

I hate brussel sprouts but the roasted version served here were the best I've ever had. Every one of the sides we ordered was delicious. The Dover Sole was superb as was the edamame humus. Anyone who has truly dined at a high end restaurant in New York or Chicago knows that portion size is not the critical factor but preparation, presentation and combination of flavors are what your paying for. The Bluffton Room is up there with the best. Rating a fine dining restaurant on portion size means you are going to fill your stomach and probably never really understood meaning of fine dining. read more
