I have been involved with sailing for about 40 years so I have been in my fair share of equipment shops. My experience today at the Boat Locker in Bridgeport was an absolute delight. The owner took his time and answered what must have seemed like a thousand questions from me. He was knowledgable and VERY helpful. He also gave me a tour of his new location and I was impressed by the facilities and selection. If you need ANYTHING to get racing on a small boat... This is the place to go. Sailing equipment is often expensive. It is what it is. I found the prices here to be quite reasonable and I even found a few bargains. While I can't proclaim to know much about kayaks or stand up paddle boards, it sure seemed like the Boat Locker had a great selection of those as well. I first met Scott around 1988. I had bought a used boat elsewhere but he helped me set it up and charged only for the parts. Since then I have purchased many parts, had rigging service work done for large boats and bought both a new Laser and later a new Sunfish from The Boat Locker. I have found Scott and his team responsive and he meets all his commitments. He has excellent follow through. Importantly the staff he hires shows the same commitment and attention to detail. The employees take their que from the leader. I have recommended the company to friends and continue to recommend The Boat Locker for those experienced and know what they are looking for, or the beginner who wants a knowledgeable group to help them get started in the right direction. Very poor customer service for Online purchase. Well actually, they have taken my money but have yet to give me any product so not sure that qualifies as a purchase but rather a donation. On March 24th I made an online purchase of several items. One of which was on back order. Three times I called for updates only to be told by Scott (assuming owner) that he would call me back with said update. He has never followed up on each of those three calls. Also, on the second call about two weeks post the initial order, I instructed Scott to send me the parts that were in stock. He said he would. Still no products almost a month later. I guess Scott has other priorities when it comes to online and out of state purchases. So buyer beware. read more

Do you might spend a little more, but you know is is good quality, and he will back everything he sells. I have bought everything from boats , to sailing accessories. I went in to the store to buy a jacket for sailing. I had planned to buy a Gill jacket and the store owner sold me a jacket for $50 more than the one I had researched online by telling me it was a better material. Turns out, it was the same jacket. All the products in this store are priced well over MSRP and the owner is a creep and a jerk. I will never shop here again read more

This by far is the worst business I have ever dealt with. The owner "Scott" is unethical; he lies to you; and, no one in the company ever returns phone calls. Ordered two kayaks on June 1st. They said the kayaks would be shipped in two weeks. I called them around the 15th of June to find out the status. They said the were delayed and would be shipped on the 21st. They said they would contact me and let me know. On the 23nd after no phone call, I called them back. The first person I talked to (a female) said she didn't know the status but that "Ron" would call me back within 15 minutes. One hour later, I called back and got hold of "Ron" only to say that the female had the status of the order and she was at lunch and would be back in 30 minutes. After an hour, I called back and this time I spoke with Scott. You would think that the owner would know what was going on. Negative. He said he would call me back in 30 minutes. Move forward to the next day since "Scott" never called back. I called them again. This time the excuse was that only one of the kayaks was received and blamed Hobi for the screw up in shipment. Said he would send the one kayak on Monday (yesterday) and ship the other when it arrived. Called back today (Tuesday). Surprise it was not shipped on Monday. Said the truck did not arrive. He promised he would call me this afternoon with the shipping tracking number. Yep, you guessed it.. No phone call. And they charged my credit card when the order was placed. I seriously doubt the validity of "Men E's" review. Seriously, who has a first name of Men? Anyways, Alyssa was right on. The owner is a jerk in addition to the comments at the beginning of my review. If they treat a customer that spent over $1,600 this way, imagine how they would treat you. Avoid this company at all costs. They are deceitful and dishonest. You can thank me later. read more

I met Scott, the owner, a couple of years ago at a boat show. We remained in contact for the intervening years. I thought he was a straight shooter and a good guy. I was wrong. My impression has changed after I purchased a boat from him earlier this year. After the exchange of money and my receipt of the boat, there was an issue with the paperwork. I was not provided with the correct "proof of ownership" documents and was not able to title and register the boat. I contacted Scott who said he would follow-up. On three subsequent calls, I was told he was mailing the material that day. More than a month has passed, and I have nothing. Now, I get no returned calls or I am disconnected when I mention my name. read more

I boat a new hobie from them. When delivered, they rigged the boat incorrectly. When I tried to sail it, I could not adjust main sail in or out. They sent someone up to re-rig the boat. He told me that he had never done this before. When he left, it was worse. Scott promised to send me video on how to rig it correctly. That never happened. Stay away. read more

I have been a customer of The Boat Locker for about 5 years now. Unfortunately it is the only nearby purveyor of equipment for dinghy racing. We have purchased everything from boats to parts and gear there, so we are good customers. I truly have never been into a shop where they seem so unhappy to have customers. The owner Scott is generally quite grumpy and makes it clear that he'd rather not be dealing with us. The last time I was in there, right at the start of the junior sailing season, they had none of the basic dinghy supplies that I needed. I had to practically beg someone to help me. When I did go to purchase something the register wasn't working and it took the salesgirl 20 minutes to check me out, using 2 different computers in an office. If you can, avoid the Boat Locker and go to the Dinghy Locker in Stamford! read more
