    Empty Bar??

Margaritas the foundation to any successful Mexican restaurant should be something you look forward to not a confusing mess of price points and options you need an advanced degree to sort out, which always perk up my Spidey senses. As I picked up the drink menu I'm always leery when prices are not listed. It's been my experience as guest and manager that it's often done to mask the fact the prices are absurdly higher than the other options and in this case my assumptions were dead on. My server Nancy form Cartagena insisted on verbally giving me the prices on 5 variities of Tequila and another 4 or 5 size options. The whole thing was comical as I asked her to repeat some parts as it was hard to understand her accent. Took way to long I was getting frustrated as she was having to answer to this "gringo". I finally decided on the "fuerte" or strong Tequila the Medium glass and when she went to mix the drink the second red flag went up when I could see that she did not mix the drink with any tequila bottle. WhenI questioned this technique she back peddled frustrated and now aware of where I was going and told me they add it to the mix at the start of the shift. Not very likely I thought as I sipped this ridiculously weak Margarita drink. Somehow I knew this was how it was going to be. I drank the drink so fast I did nto think top even ask her to add a shot or anything just drank it down and decided to dith this idea entirely and order a craft beer in the bottle where I knew she had no way to mess up. MMM that beer was good a California Craft beer that was tasty. Had another one of those before I left and then when the bill came I let out a sigh of defeat when I finally and for the first time saw the prices printed anywhere. The Margarita drink was 4X more than the price of the beer. How do you think they will reply and spin this? And I didn't try the food this review is simply for the shenanigans going on at the Bar.

No bells or whistles, just a laid-back Mexican Cantina. It was busy due to the Braves game as most of the customers were in their baseball gear. Although my buddy & I didn't eat, we did enjoy the atmosphere & cocktails. I had to make my own Sangria since they add liquor to their mix. He was satisfied with his Premium Margarita - as he should due to the huge glass. Talk about authentic & homemade chips. They make & keep them at the right temperature inside the double-bin warmer & with complimentary refills. There are small Veggie options & due to their policy of no substitutions or modifications, getting something Vegan is very slim. Service was lukewarm yet quick & you can't beat the prices.

This is the border dip. Steak, shrimp, chicken.

The price and food is good! The border dip was delicious! I came for lunch by just going on maps and looking for Mexican restaurants close to me. I will definitely be coming back.

I've been here a few times and service seems to be pretty consistent with a party of 2-4. I did come here one time with a huge party and we sat in the back where their big booth is and it did seem like they forgot about us. Based off my times here when I've been with a normal sized party, service was quick and nothing to really complain about. Their queso comes with jalapeños and it's phenomenal. Portion size for their food is pretty big and always fills me up! Same with their margaritas. The strawberry margarita was tasty. Usually at other places it's like POWERFUL with tequila but here you can actually enjoy the drink. Staff seems to be able to speak in Spanish. Sometimes it is hard to understand them and hear them over the music.

Very cute restaurant. Warm, welcoming staff. I ordered a margarita, queso with chorizo, a chicken quesadilla and a steak taco. The chips and queso were good. Lots of chorizo, flgood temperature, ample amount of chips. I wasn't a fan of the strak taco. It contained strips of steak. I prefer the steak chopped. It has decent flavor and lots of meat but the big strips threw me off a bit. I wasn't impressed with the quesadilla either. The cheese was interesting, a bit thin and it contained shredded chicken which wasn't very flavorful. The margarita was delicious and the service was great. I would return for the queso and margaritas and maybe try other items on the menu.

Went for lunch with a couple friends. The restaurant is a bit older and is showing signs of wear. We were greeted and seated right away. Ordered some margaritas and beer. For appetizers we asked for queso with meat and jalapeños. Drinks came out quickly. Very good margaritas with nice pour of alcohol. Our meals arrived. The food was steaming hot. I found the veggies on my fajita skillet overdone so when placed on the hot skillet they almost burned. The same happened to my friends platter. I will say that the portions were generous. The combo platter that one of us had was ok. Enchilada in mole was very tasty. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Eh. Service was good. Place was clean. Vibe was nice. Drinks were okay, like was very overpowering and not strong at all. Enchilladas were bland and the Border Dip was beyond salty. Couldn't even finish it.

This restaurant was very mediocre. The salad wasn't good. Just ice burg lettuce and bland chicken, and cheese. My boyfriend had the fajitas , he said that they were ok. The service was good and although it was lunch time we didn't have a long wait. The ambiance was ok.

This is our go to Mexican restaurant! The salsa is the right amount of spicy. We really enjoy the bean dip. My favorite is the chicken soup or quesadillas. My husband loves their burritos. Lots of seating inside and outside. Pretty much a typical Mexican restaurant vibe.

Quesadilla Verde with Chicken Fajita It's pretty tiny for the price. Think lunch portion

Atmosphere: I think for an authentic Mexican restaurant the vibe was sufficient. Kinda old though -- needs new booths. Food: They don't offer substitutions which they make known on their menu. However, charging a $1.50 for cilantro and $1.50 for onion that would replace what's on the taco is a little wild. I ordered a fajita style chicken quesadilla. Portion was pretty tiny for the price -- $14. It'd be more suitable as a lunch portion that cost $8. Rice needed some flavorrrr Salsa and chips were good tho! It had some spice to it yum! Customer service: Started off great but hit a bump when my carne Asada tacos came out 7ish mins after my rice and beans. Final thoughts: It wasn't terrible BUT Atlanta has endless Mexican restaurants so I won't return back to this one.

Great times Great friends and family

The Border is my favorite Mexican restaurant in ALL OF AMERICA!! It's a staple in my visit to Atlanta!!! They have the best queso with steak, shrimp and chicken in it ... it's the border queso and it's not fair!!' Their margaritas are consistent EVERY TIME!!!

Smyrna is a city with a plethora of solid eateries, especially Mexican restaurants and with that, I was hoping The Border would be a stand out...and to be honest, it was...but for all the wrong reasons. Located on Cobb Parkway, in the heart of busy Smyrna sits The Border restaurant. It looks like your typical spot from the outside with bright colors, neon signage and a covered patio. Once you walk through the entrance the color palette shifts as wood covers the floor, the walls, the booths and the ceiling. The decor is that of a standard Mexican spot with colors aplenty on the decorations that line the bar, as well as the decorative and bright lights that hang over each booth. I should start by saying I really wanted to love this place, really badly! It's in a great location and while they don't serve the most amazing food I've ever had, it's solid and consistent...but alas, the service and frankly, their response to reopening in COVID times has me headed elsewhere in the future. In the last few months I have been here about 6 times, a few for dinner and a couple for lunch. Sadly, my experience wasn't limited to one time of day. Food wise, as mentioned, is solid and on par with many restaurants around the area. We always start off with queso, which is wonderful. They serve it plain, nothing fancy, no toppings, etc...you want cheese, here you go! For dinner and for lunch I usually grab the Numero Uno or Speedy Gonzalez. Both feature enchiladas, taco and rice or beans. Never a complaint with this order. The lunch portion, which features (1) enchilada is priced around $7.00 while the dinner portion, feature (2) enchiladas costs around $9.50. Neither is bad priced and you get a lot for the price. The other side of the table always goes with the Nachos Supreme, beef. They have all the standard toppings, including queso and comes in around $10.00 for a regular order. The food has always been good, honestly no complaints there. Service ok the other hand has been consistently atrocious each visit, with the exception of our very first visit. It doesn't matter if we sit outside or inside, the service seems to lack. Each of the last three visits, there has been something wrong with our order, be it the wrong drinks, delayed appetizer entry, wrong meal, etc...in addition to the constant errors, service has not been very timely...it's honestly been slooooowwww! Our drinks are always running empty, as is the chip basket, our requests for anything are met with delays, ticket retrieval takes minutes and more times than not, we are sitting idle versus enjoying our meal. Additionally, with the recent Covid situation, The Border has dropped the ball on customer safety. At the start of the reopening phase, we felt comfortable dining in as they distanced tables and were very clear with the mask mandate. However, things have changed. Upon our latest visits, they had EVERY table sat, no precautions, no social distancing. Sadly we no longer feel safe eating here in the current climate. The staff is wearing masks, but this seems to be the only safety precaution they are taking at this time. Overall, The Border is the run of the mill Mexican restaurant. The food is solid and well priced, but the service is questionable to put it nicely. With the large variety of places in the area, The Border has definitely moved down on my "to eat" list, especially for dine out.

There's booths and tables and I like that the tables aren't too close to each other. There's cute decor, just a nice vibe overall. It wasn't too busy for a Friday evening which was nice since we had our kids with us. The waiter was pleasant and checked on us occasionally, without being over bearing. We started with a trio of dips with chips- guacamole, queso, and salsa instead of the bean dip. All of them were good with the queso being so-so for me. The salsa is nice and smoky. One kid had a kids meal with two shredded beef tacos and fries. I'm glad they served the onions and cilantro on the side for him. Hubby has the queso birria plate and raved about how good it was. I enjoyed by pollo asado plate. I only wish they had a salsa bar with the pickled veggies, etc. The menu is extensive so I can't wait to try something else. Prices are a little higher than other Mexican places, but they make a lot of homemade items and you can tell the difference.
