My 8th review of this venerable pub since 2019, and 5th five-star rating (the others being solid…read more"4"s). The atmosphere is definitely college bar, with a sprinkling of older locals and a smattering of tourists. In other words, a bit of everything, which is much like their menu. Their burgers are consistently superb, as is their broiled salmon, eggplant fries, and even their eggplant parm (yes, truly), among many other things. But today, it was wing day. Stopped in w best friend, Pots & Pans, AKA Stumbleweed. We split a dozen, half garlic parmesan, half teriyaki. Meaty and juicy (to the point that P&P "sauced up" his shirt). Ice cold draughts on a hot day. And our server, Brittany, was great. Efficient, effective, and effervescent. I thought she was going to do a cartwheel for us. Overall, 5 rama lama wing dong stars

Here at P&G's you'll find a decent bar menu (some on tap, some in bottles, some other drinks), decent layout (our seats were around a couple of corners, the bar kinda bisects the whole place), and decent service (we were a bit under-noticed, but that was corrected promptly once fixed). I suppose that this place is geared toward SUNY more than downtown, and that's honestly not a bad thing. Well, we went for the food, and I'd say a bit more than just decent. I really liked the clam chowder. It's not authentic New England style, but it's sweeter and thicker - I actually liked it more! The bread I dipped was quite good, everyone else enjoyed their food, and I think I got to try a couple of fries and those hit the spot as well. Verdict: New Paltz isn't a town I'd return to in general, but you could do far worse than P&G's while there. In fact, I'm not sure you could do better. Come one, come all.

We ordered that every time we have eaten here in the past. Weird burger combos were noted. I asked about a burger with gorgonzola cheese - instead of the feta cheese that came on one of the burgers. I was told no - they don't have any. Their other restaurant right next door makes a gorgonzola burger. They are always going back and forth to get stuff - why couldn't they just say yes, and grab a bit of gorgonzola from next door? Note that this was around 5:00 pm and there was just one other table occupied, and two people at the bar who were leaving. I wanted a burger, but didn't like any of the weird choices, so I got a Reuben sandwich. The fries were good, but for $17, I would have hoped the corned beef would be good as well. It wasn't very moist or fresh - in fact there were weird brown areas on the meat. I chalked it up to a bad choice. My partner ordered the Philly steak sandwich on a baguette. He has had the French dip sandwich there in the past and liked it. Unfortunately it was no longer on the menu, so he ordered the closest thing. He said he would not order it again, and that says a lot. I tasted it - and it was just not very good. Sorry to say but it is unlikely we will be back.

On the weekends it turns on a late-night party scene filled with college students. It is lined up right in Main Street with other smaller restaurants and bars. This was one of my favorite cheap eateries in the town while I was in college. I have been here twice since for happy hour specials. I ordered the chicken wings and the shrimp tacos. The drinks were around $5 which is a steal compared to New York City prices. In the past they used to offer a large fishbowl drink for your birthday. It was huge and took several people to drink it. Currently it is the size of a large cup as you can see in the picture. It does the job but it is much smaller than what it was in 2010. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. I usually sit at the bar which is a great place to meet others and watch the game. Everyone usually comes in for drinks and a quick meal. There are large tables for families to come in and spread out. Everyone was nice here. I plan to come back soon and take advantage of the happy hour specials again.
