2nd visit: Good service. Outdoor patio tables clean but floor littered with debris. Clean up would be nice. We order various dishes from a great menu selection: Burger good but overcooked Chicken and waffles very good. Crispy and juicy. Waffles with berries very good and fresh. But not having real maple syrup is a major let down Roast beef sandwich very good. Little overcooked but good. Onion rings fresh and crispy. Vineyard eggs with chorizo. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Would of preferred bigger pieces of chorizo instead of tiny ground pieces. Coffee good but not hot enough. Teas served perfectly steaming hot. Service was prompt and friendly. Patio is great when nice weather and chairs are super comfortable. read more

I loved Underground Coffee and Ales! We stopped here for a late lunch after a long hike and were completely revived by the great food and cold pilsner on tap. I had the Mushroom Swiss Burger but I was able to substitute the burger for an impossible burger. The toppings on the burger were great, the fries were good, and service was outstanding. I also loved that their patio was dog friendly. I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in New Paltz. read more

Underground Coffee & Ales is a craft beer bar, cafe and bottle shop that opened in Highland, New York in October 2015. It was founded by husband and wife Jeremy and Erin Intonti. The Intontis don't have service industry backgrounds, but they did have a big idea that took shape in 2013--they launched the Hudson River Craft Beer Festival, which flooded Riverfront Park in Beacon with beer lovers that summer. After selling the festival, the couple looked toward opening a place that brought together their two loves--beer and coffee. Jeremy tends to curate the heavy rotation of craft beer in the establishment's 10 taps, while Erin's passion is acquiring gourmet coffee beans sourced from Coffee Lab Roasters in Tarrytown. In addition to their delicious beverages, the food menu at Underground Coffee & Ales features breakfast entrees, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and various bar bites. A large number of cyclists from the nearby Walkway Over the Hudson frequent the establishment during the warmer months. A second location opened in New Paltz in May 2024, followed by a third in Ellenville in February 2025. I recently visited the New Paltz location of Underground Coffee & Ales. I decided to stop for lunch while I was cycling on the nearby Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. It's located in the Historic Huguenot Street District, which is a foodie's paradise. I pulled up a seat by the bar and began to look over the food and beverage menus. I started off with a draught pour of Modist Brewing's "Green Greens" (New England IPA). This explosion of hops tasted so good after a long bike ride. For food, I ordered the "Southwest Burger" (crispy strip onion rings, jalapeño slices, avocado, tomato's greens, pepper jack cheese & chipotle aioli) with bacon and a side of "Underground Fries" (mound of fries topped with house cheese sauce, crispy bacon, dusted with Underground seasoning). The burger and the fries really hit the spot! I washed it down with a draught pour of Hop Butcher For The World's "A Myriad of Pyramids" (Double New England IPA). Overall I was impressed by the food, the selections, the decor, and the friendly and knowledgable staff. I had an excellent experience at Underground Coffee & Ales and I hope to visit another one of their locations in the future! read more

We ate here tonight and if I could give more than 5 stars I would! My new favorite place in New Paltz. We went here tonight & immediately greeting by a friendly member of the waitstaff who steated us right away and gave us menus. She came back with waters and asked if we had any questions and would like to put in drink orders which we did and they were delicious - coffee , a mango smoothie , a hot chocolate & a seasonal cocktail the fall back I believe . The food was delicious and plentiful and everyone enjoyed it and so much we even took some home. We were checked in with several times throughout our meal to see how everything was and if anything was needed. Overall this was a great experience and we will definitely be back again!! My recent visit to Underground in New Paltz, NY, was good! Our waiter was patient, taking the time to ensure our orders were accurate. The service was good, with our food delivered promptly and without errors. They have a big elk on the wall wearing a long sleeve shirt and they have some larger square tables in the back which allow for a good amount of plates to be placed without tightness. read more

Came here for coffee and had a decent experience. The place was super busy on a Monday morning but despite that, service was decent and friendly. I ordered a gingerbread latte which didn't have the strongest flavoring in the world. Overall, coffee was decent and it was too busy to try the food or order a beer since there was no tables, but wouldn't be opposed to going back to try. Nothing was wrong with the visit, just very average overall. read more

Don't charge for iced tea refills! It's just stained water!! Who does that? Even McDonald's has free refills.

This place is awesome. The service was great, the coffee was amazing, and the food for both breakfast and lunch tasted fantastic. The Barbecue Tofu Wings and Hot Mocha are both solid choices. Definitely recommend. read more

We stopped by here in the early evening to grab some drinks. To be honest, I didn't love the cider that I got on draft, but the peppermint espresso martini was yummy. As for the bar food, we got the fried pickles and the wings, which were both good and above average for bar food. I like that the place seems very chill and that you can stop by for coffee, food, or drinks. read more

More employees than customers. Staff running around in circles totally overwhelmed. They seated us and 20 minutes later took our order. Should have been served with 10 minutes. Took 20. Had to ask twice for coffee. Bacon forgotten on one order. Had to ask for it. Kept getting apologies for the delays, which would have been fine if they were even remotely busy. The food was fine. The food here can be really great, and one of the few places in town with a consistent brunch menu. I have been in here 3 or 4 times and have never had great service, it seems maybe the staff is spread too thin around tables even if there aren't many folks sitting down. Last time we tried to eat here we were informed before we sat down that we would have to wait to order because there was a large party that sat down. A time before that, I waited for a while for a server to notice me before I had to flag one down. I may just be unfortunate when I try to eat here but the experiences have not been great. read more

We went at a weird time; early afternoon on a weekday. Service was a little slow, but friendly and competent. The food was good, we tried sliders and avocado toast. They have outdoor seating under cover, which is good for keeping the hot sun off your face. You get a little slice of Main street to look at, which is nice for people watching. Chicken and waffles was incredible and my vegetarian friend loves the mushroom toast, street corn, and fried Brussels sprouts. Drinks are great and lots of options for canned bevs. Service is great. Darn it! I wanted to be first to review. After getting to my kids dorm at 9:30 on Saturday and finding he was nowhere near packed for the 10am move out deadline I said - Not. My. Problem. And hoofed it down to underground. Nice vibe. Nice looking bar. Service was excellent and the eggs bene were some of the best I have ever had. Also subbed a gorgeous fruit bowl instead of the home fries. I wasn't a fan of the flavor of my latte but that's on me. Definitely will be coming back!! Great addition read more

Solid, consistent spot with great food and nice selection of craft beer on tap as well as an extensive list of cans. Good service and reasonable prices. The smash burger, turkey club, and breakfast burritos are all consistently good, and they have some of the best fries around. The space is nice if a little sparse. My only suggestions would be a few more booths and some tweaks to the lighting, along with the option of pints for the on tap beers but minor things. Overall one of the best dining options in a town with too few of them. read more

Will definitely be going back! What a different and interesting menu but you can still get traditional breakfast. I tried the peach toast with burrata. I've NEVER seen this on a menu and had to try it. It was delicious! It also came with breakfast potatoes with peppers and onions. They were also delicious but I felt it took away from the toast so I brought them home. My husband had a western omelet with the breakfast potatoes and he thoroughly enjoyed his as well. The staff was attentive and very polite. The atmosphere is cozy and decorated so nicely. And the prices for all of this were very fair - not expensive at all. read more

Brand new restaurant in New Paltz, their second location in the area. Today was their first full day. Like any opening, they have a few growing pains, but I have no doubt they'll quickly work out the kinks. We randomly went in after seeing tables outside while driving by. They have a large outside patio area, where we sat for brunch. The service was polite and efficient. The food was delicious and presented nicely. The value is good considering the portion size and quality. They have a nice bar and some booths inside, with a decent beer list. The eggs Benedict were excellent, with a perfect hollandaise sauce; though I'd skip the spinach next time. I'll definitely be back. read more

Truly amazing gem. Welcoming and diverse staff. I ordered the mushroom and ricotta toast. It was good enough! I wish the ricotta was seasoned or they added honey/ local mushrooms.
