I'm writing about the delivery service they have. The food is nothing out of this world. First, it took about 2.5 HOURS for it to be delivered. Second, I had the cheeseburger and fries but by the time it got to me, everything was soggy from the built up condensation from the heat of the food. Also if you order delivery, they charge you a delivery fee, service fee, and convenience fee which does not appear upfront when making the order on a mobile. These fees are about $20. Overall, based on the quality of food, timing of delivery, delivery service and associated fees, it wasn't a great experience. read more

Looking for a place to watch football on a Sunday night when D.C. is essentially closed. Went to TGI Friday's first and it was disgusting. Then I found Bottom Line and I fell in love. It is a small, humble establishment but it is clean and fresh (aka no fowl odors.) The service is extremely friendly, the food was delicious and the ambiance was nice! If you live in DC they have half priced burgers for this and next week! We stopped by on our way out of the city and each indulged in a different half off burger- definitely the cheapest meal by far of the whole time in DC. I had large slices of fresh avocado, pickled jalapeños and cheddar cheese. A friend enjoyed the house special and could not put his burger down due to topping mess but also deliciousness. This is a wood paneled hole in the wall oddly enough with a large selection of Mexican dishes and a $3 margarita night. The owner/bartender was engaging and charming but also gave us enough space to talk amongst ourselves. read more

Approaching Bottom Line, descending the steps to a basement bar, I notice a slight musty smell. 4:15 p.m.- the long bar has filled almost every stool. Great deal: miller lights for a dollar during happy hour. The touch tunes was out of order. The atmosphere was subdued and I actually felt myself getting tired. I'm very much a fan of old, quaint bars with charm; however, whether it was the air, the bright lighting, or the mood of just that one Friday evening, I was bored so we hopped after two beers. read more

Have only been here for happy hour on the Mexican Wednesday night. Got the nachos...they were actually not bad, and pretty large. Perfect to share. However, the margaritas were awful. Me and 3 other ladies each ordered them - wayyy too salty and not enough marg. mix! We ended up just giving them to the guys, who drink anything. On vacation out here in DC from California and after a long day of walking around we needed a bar and this one was great :) The girls at the bar were really friendly and seemed to know everybody that came in...."hey Ted, the usual? Fred, how's it going?!" that kind of thing. We only had some tater tots and zingers (spicy chicken nugget things) as a snack but they were good. I went here on a Saturday evening for a bowling league end of season party, which happened to coincide with a kickball league just normal day at the bar. The bar itself is a little out of the way. It's not really around too much else and I don't know what kind of business they do on a normal weekend. I think this is a pretty cool bar. It has a very small outdoor seating area, right on the sidewalk. They allow smoking out there which is sort of annoying for non-smokers like myself because all the smokers just chill practically right next to you. The inside is one long room with a bar that extends almost the entire length of the place. I think I would really like the atmosphere on a normal day. It was pretty dive-y and dark. The bartenders seemed cool. One thing I didn't really like was that when someone plays a song on the jukebox the music got really loud. The normal music volume was just fine though. I didn't try the food but some of the people I was with got some nachos which they seemed to enjoy. The kickball people kind of put a damper on an otherwise good experience. They were loud and super obnoxious. I play in a different league and I think they were worse than we normally get (I'm obviously biased though). Maybe it's because there were a lot of them and it looked like they had been drinking for quite awhile and the bar isn't huge. We got a couple of free kegs, though so it's hard to complain about that too much. read more

I must say this a dive bar that makes even first time visitors feel at home. The food was made to order and good. The first beer I order was a little flat, but the bar tender noticed I hadn't touched the glass beyond the initial sip and switched it for me without fee. I would revisit the bar and sample more of the food, as it looks like they are not shy with the cheese toppings. read more

Went there for Sunday Football as I heard that it was a Bengal's Bar, and being from Cincinnati I wanted to make sure that I got to see the game on a big screen. I was surprised that when I got there that there were absolutely no seats, and the whole place was filled with Bengals fans. Apparently it's where the Cincinnati Transplants hang out. They server 3way Skyline Chili (although I heard that the cheese isn't the same) and whenever the Bengals score, the place erupts, and the owner hands out free orange shots. I had the chicken mushroom sandwich, and it was quite good. They did run out of Miller Lite Draft, which was odd, but Definitely a place I'd go to again albeit earlier to get a spot. read more

I actually hd a great time here during their happy hour and as we continued onto the night. I love the taco bar, and yes, although the basement can get a little creepy - once you're down there you realize that its not that bad. The music can get super loud but when you look at what you get from this place you'll be happy. I'm a fan of the cheap drinks during happy hour, the bartenders are pretty phenomenal as far as service and attitude, I'm a really big fan of their tater tots -- which may seem odd but they really are GOOD. The times I've been the crowd has been really diverse and I'm a fan of that. One thing to remember is that this is a complete dive bar. If you're not into the dive-y scene then it might not be for you. But if you're like me, and the price of food/drinks and the atmosphere are what drives you to go to places ...then you should check out the bottom line. read more

This place is kind of divey, but in a good way. I became hip to this place because it's a Bengals bar.......WHO DEY! I came here to meet some friends and it wasn't too crowded on the Tuesday night we went in. They have HH specials which is nice. They also have a few outdoor tables. Aghast! Not at the Bottom Line but at the other reviews. I loved this bar. They serve cocktails in pint glasses - what's not to love? And I thought the bartenders were great! We first went pre-dinner and yes, there were "a bunch of people dressed up in their sleek business attire" but you are in the nation's capitol in a neighborhood described as being of "historical elegance and refinement" so I'm not sure why you would expect anything less? We also went post-dinner and the crowd's attire had somewhat changed as the night wore on (no pun intended) but despite the wardrobe, everyone we talked to was so nice and fun and the service was great, too. They did still have their Xmas decorations up in February and from someone who hasn't even put up a Xmas tree in 5+ years let alone a single decoration, this seemed odd, but then something on the wall caught my eye. Reprinted from the Washington Post, a quote from the early 80's in which the bar was asked why their Xmas decorations were still up some months later. The answer (I'm paraphrasing because they do serve cocktails in pint glasses): that in the nation's depressed times they thought it brought cheer and joy to the citizens so they were leaving them up. By far my favorite bar in DC. $1 beers when it's raining, a Bengals bar on Sundays and right down the street from my job = fantastic things. I love the neighborhood, casual, dive-barish feel to it and it's a great place to relax and kick back after a stuck up day at the office. Love the bartenders here, love the drink prices, hate the darkness. A very fun chill place though. IT's awkwardly set up with a long long hallway, but they make the most of their space and even have a small patio upstairs which is nice for me because I like the sunlight. I'm here almost every Thursday with our kickball team and we all love the bartenders. They pour good, strong drinks and are incredibly attentive, even when slammed! Anyone who doesn't like the calm ambiance and cheap prices at the Bottom Line is overly pretencious (sorry for the judgmental attitude). This is not a place to meet and greet. Rather, it's a simple place to bring friends so that you can drink, until you drop, on the cheap. They throw in some free and moderately priced bar food to help you get through it all. What's not to like? So, this should be 4 or 5 stars for anyone that is looking for a recession busting experience. On the street, Bottom Line appears to be a very small restaurant with some outdoor seating and a green awning. Don't be fooled into dismissing this place like I did because tucked in the basement is Bottom Line, a really classic looking bar with a slight dive-y ambiance. The food is pretty good, but it can be sort of hard to figure out because there isn't one object that states all of the food options here. So, don't forget to read all of the signs, even the small ones on the bar, in addition to the menu. The decor, drink specials, and service really shine here. The food is absolutely great as well. You'll see a diverse crowd of people that come here ranging from college students to older business professionals. It's a good time had by all! read more

Not sure whether I liked it or not. I was there for lunch on an awesome Livingsocial instant deal. The bartender was great and pretty much took care of me the whole time, despite the fact that I was there to get lunch. Waiter was nowhere to be seen. I had come here with my family on a short weekend vacation and stopped into the bottom line. Nothing but delicious will explain the food here. Great appetizers followed by a great burger. Black and blue burger is what was ordered and that I got. Blackened burger cooked to medium perfection. Great beer to help it all go down smooth too. I went to The Bottom Line recently for a friend's birthday after not visiting for a few years - I regret now that I waited so long! The Bottom Line has great drink and food specials, and staff are friendly and attentive (especially compared with other local dive bars in DC), and the food is surprisingly tasty! The food was perfectly seasoned, appropriately cooked, and was delivered warm and ready to eat. I will definitely be heading back to The Bottom Line the next time I am craving some delicious bar food or to gather a group for happy hour. Just a word of caution - around 11 pm this place turns into a college scene (at least on weekends), so if you are not into that environment, plan to head elsewhere around that time. read more
