The food is really good, my favorite is the UC Bahn Mi sandwich. The salads that come with them are great also. I recommend the Chimmichurri Steak and Cranberry Brie sandwiches. Tried the Santa Maria BBQ salad today and I also highly recommend this menu item. I have never dined at the restaurant nor interacted with staff. I have been going to Urbane Cafe for years and I had never had a poor customer service experience until today in Santa Maria. I placed an order for myself and husband through the app. When I picked up our food I asked for extra dressing. Chester responded, to go pay at the cashier, in a very rude manner. I asked the cashier (female) why is it that sometimes they charge me and other times they do not for extra dressing. She said the policy changes. Understood, she was kind, and I paid for the extra dressing. I grabbed a cup of water just to try the lemonade. I am 6 months pregnant and was very thirsty. Chester said, "That will be $4, you could go pay at the cashier... the cup of water is for water only". His tone was disrespectful and impolite. To top it off, I asked for chipotle ranch dressing for my salad and they added the cilantro dressing! I noticed when I got home. I came across a review from a year ago, that someone mentioned Chester was rude to his employees. This is very unfortunate and concerning. I chose the crunchy peanut salad. It was huge and quite tasty. Luckily, the peanut dressing came on the side as having all of it in the bowl would have been too much sweetness. While the salad was excellent (and I would have it again) there were a couple of items listed on the menu that were not in the salad I received. I had no Mandarin orange, no crispy onions, and the carrots were raw, not pickled. That being said, I was truly satisfied. I guess the bottom line in satisfaction is whether you would come back. I feel bad not having paid close enough attention to the employees name. But a friend and I visited for lunch yesterday. I had a new baby in a stroller and my friend was pregnant with a one year old. One of the male employees helped us get situated at our table by removing a chair for me and getting the one year old a high chair. I know it sounds simple. But the amount of people who will watch you struggle in this world and never help greatly outweighs the ones that help you. Always fresh and delicious food. My sister and I live in Santa Barbara, but no Urbane Cafe in SB, so when we drive to Arroyo Grande we always eat here. I usually have the Santa Maria chicken salad and recently decide to try the Mediterranean bowl with chicken. Both are devious as are the tri-tip and cranberry turkey sandwich. Really can't miss here. This is NOT a complaint. It is a celebration. And, a thank you. My parents were "regulars" at the Santa Maria Urbane Cafe. They were always greeted warmly, and my dad enjoyed joking and talking with everyone there. Tragically, my dad suffered a stroke and passed away. Grief-struck, my mom and I visited Urbane Cafe, partly because it was a comforting source of happy memories and partly to inquire about catering for my dad's Celebration of Life. To my surprise, Chester Valdez, the manager, recognized my mom, and shared our sorrow at my dear dad's sudden passing. For my mom to feel seen and known and empathized with on one of the most difficult days of her life, was a blessing beyond food and finances. To know that my dad was known and remembered by the people who run and work at Urbane Cafe touched our hearts deeply. Please let the corporate powers that be know that Chester Valdez, Tom Holt and Carlos Mejia did something amazing and powerful for their community that day. A restaurant doing it "right" provides a clean, welcoming environment and nourishing food, but a restaurant doing it awesomely also nourishes the hearts of the community it feeds. Food quality is unmatched and pricing per item is on point. I had ordered a customized order through the Urbane Cafe app. I am collecting points for ordering which is a feature that I like instead of ordering to through Uber Eats. since I was picking up the order and I was late the restaurant placed my pick up order in rack for that purpose. I couldn't find my name in the rack, but a staff member found my order for me even though this was not a sit down order, there was plenty of seating in the restaurant and outside on the patio. Located in the newer part of Santa Maria this location has indoor and more outdoor seating which is nice if the wind isn't blowing a gazillion miles per hour . I had the ahi poke bowl which was very fresh and tender. The ahi melted in my mouth. I loved everything in the bowl especially the picked daikon and radish.
