Room was fine but a little tired feeling. Bathroom was not particularly clean (try some bleach on the shower curtain). Breakfast was not on par with what the website advertised. Some microwaved sausage and pillsbury type rolls. The young ladies waiting the tables were pleasant but, as many others have noted on here, Joan definitely has an attitude not in line with your typical B&B hostess. read more

We will definitely stay here again when visiting Historic Gettysburg! This is the best affordable bed and breakfast we have stayed at. After a very disappointing visit to Baltimore, on our way back to Pittsburgh, we decided to stay a few days in Gettysburg. It was just the change of pace we needed! It was so peaceful and relaxing. We chose this bed and breakfast for its location and they were able to accommodate us on short notice, which was great! We stayed in two different rooms the two nights we were there since it was exceptionally short notice but they moves our stuff for us, which was nice. We had a room with a jacuzzi tub which was awesome and even the first room we stayed in that did not have a jacuzzi tub was extremely nice. The complex of rooms and halls is beautifully rustic and we spent some time sitting in the small garden courtyard they have. The location. Is wonderful! We walked all around to different shops the first day and never needed to move the car. That's a definite plus for us! Plus we were right down from some excellent antique shops where we made some great finds. Now for the important part, the food. Breakfast is in waves. You sign up for a time and then go to the dinning room to be served. I loved that. The dinning room is tight but cozy and the food was phenomenal! Fresh fruit, crepe, the works...just fantastic! I have and will continue to recommend this place to friends and we plan on visiting again when our busy schedule allows! read more

I haven't stayed in a B&B since I lived in Germany many years ago, was always the best vacations and left me with amazing memories. Staying at the Brafferton was top notch!! The rooms were fantastic, clean, comfortable and very well decorated. The breakfast each morning was fresh, home made and just to die for!! The owners were extremely friendly, helpful with any questions we had for them from dinner suggestions or local shops etc.. Stayed here one night to check out the area. It's in a good location within walking distance of everything. Free parking is provided. The room was clean, the bed comfy, and the room quiet with the exceptions you get from an old house. I am a very light sleeper and any noise woke me up. I found that rather amusing since it reminded me of the old family homestead. The breakfast good and there was quite a bit of it. The service was good and the people very kind. The only caveat for staying here was I thought I would take advantage of the jacuzzi tub. I realized what a big mistake it was after I turned it off. There were black flakes and gunk all in the water. I realized the jacuzzi had not been cleaned in a while and the black was mold and bacteria. I freaked out and took a shower. I did mention it to Joan. read more

We stayed here in October 2013, for a single night in the Master bedroom (with Private bath). The staff is wonderful and friendly. We are experienced B&B people, and although most B&B proprietors are informative and helpful, this staff is also friendly and charming. I first stayed at The Brafferton with my family in June and loved it so much, I returned this weekend with my girlfriends. To stay in an actual Civil War Era home truly added to our Gettysburg experience! The rooms are just lovely, the breakfast amazing, the experience, unmatched! Brian and Joan were so helpful in guiding and advising on restaurants, tours, directions, schedules, you name it! The Brafferton definitely was part of my decision to return to Gettysburg for a second time in one year. oh, and Joan is hysterical! read more

On a visit to Gettysburg this Independence Day, I stayed in the North Suite. The owners: Joan, Brian and AmyBeth were very welcoming and made me feel like part of the family. The room was spacious with a fireplace in the sitting area, a separate bedroom and a bathroom with a large walk-in shower. It offered modern conveniences with an old world feel. In the morning, I enjoyed the view of the garden area from my private balcony before heading down for breakfast. And I must say, the breakfast was amazing! My favorite: fresh fruit, an apple muffin, scrambled eggs with lump crabmeat, sausage links and potatoes. Now that I'm home, I'm definitely going to try to recreate this recipe... to the best of my ability :) As an adjunct to a business trip in the Baltimore area, my visit to Gettysburg was far too short... I look forward to my next opportunity to visit the Brafferton, if for no other reason than to sample the other breakfast entrees on offer. read more

My spouse and I stayed at this historic Bed and Breakfast. The location is ideal with the square of town just a stones throw away. The Square was landscaped with red, white and blue flowers to mark the July celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the battle. The Innkeeper was very gracious and kind. She answered all of our questions and showed us to our room. Brian who is co owner was pleasant and gave us some interesting facts about the Inn. Breakfast was superb! Our room was beautiful and the girls who do the housekeeping are so nice and friendly. They not only help serve the three rounds of breakfast daily but they also do a fantastic job cleaning the rooms.They are a great mixed bag of women who are happy and do not hesitate to answer any questions if asked. Our stay was a very relaxing one and we definitely will be seeing more of the Brafferton Inn in the near future. read more

My husband and I were very happy with the location of this Inn. If you are looking for a place to park the car and walk to the downtown area this is the place for you. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is served at 3 different times to choose from. The food was perfect for our taste, and the cookies and coffee in the afternoon are a nice treat. We stayed in the Pear Tree Suite and after staying there, though the most expensive room on the property, it was worth every penny. The staff is amazing, the breakfast very good, though they throw you into time slots to eat, and the room was beautiful. read more

Just had a wonderful 2 day stay. A perfect B&B, in town, superb breakfast daily with home baked warm muffins (had vanilla almond cream cheese & blueberry filling one day, orange filling the next, fresh fruit, juice and a choice of 4 items, had the stratta & a Mexican omelet. Cookies & tea & cookies mid-day. Upgraded to the lovely Pear Tree suite w/a private patio, Jacuzzi, 4 head shower, and 2 bedrooms and a parking spot, useful as parking is limited in town. Friendly service from the owners from reservation to checkout and all the staff. read more

Much like John Cleese's interactions with a rude innkeeper that lead to the development of "Fawlty Towers", our stay at the Brafferton Inn was marked by a brusque welcome (a term I use loosely) by Joan, who is part owner , a regimented atmosphere, and a disappointing experience overall. First off, we had not been aware that our room was not in the central structure of the Inn. The website reads "housed in an elegant fieldstone house" and "has 17 rooms including 9 suites" but doesn't appear to make mention of where exactly your room will be located unless you do some digging. In the "about the inn" section of the website it does note that "all buildings are air conditioned in season". So - the Inn actually includes more than one building, but when we booked our room in the "Lane Studio" it was not clear to us that we'd be a couple doors down from the main house. This turned out to be problematic for several reasons: - The website notes "complimentary high speed internet access" but doesn't clarify that it is only available in the parlor of the main house - there is no access in the rooms. We learned this little fact once we were checked in. Although we were on vacation we needed to stay connected with our work, so we had to traipse on over, hauling our laptop, rather than stay in our room and work more comfortably. - While making use of the parlor in order to access the internet we apparently overstayed our welcome, as after about 10 minutes we received nasty looks and grumbled comments from Joan, giving us the impression we were taking too much advantage of their hospitality and space. This occurred even when we were the only guests in the room. - There is no bathroom available to guests when visiting the parlor or the dining room. Therefore, if the need arose while at breakfast or while working in the parlor, we had to walk back two buildings to our room and hike the numerous stairs to use our room's facilities. We have never had this happen before, in the many Bed and Breakfasts we have stayed in the US and abroad. Perhaps most shocking and unpleasant was the treatment we received by Joan. From the moment we stepped through the door we had orders snapped at us, questions were met with curt responses accompanied by frowns and glares, and we were made to feel as if we were unwelcome intruders and imbeciles rather than paying guests. The owner's son was pleasant and the other staff members we interacted with were very nice and helpful. Joan however was terse, abrupt, and at times unbelievably rude. We asked a question about parking; for that we received a scowl and a harshly-delivered response. At breakfast we attempted to be helpful by moving a plate out of the way, causing the owner to bark "Put that down!" in a tone more suited to a drill sergeant than an innkeeper. We were unsure as to whether we were the only ones having these experiences, until we shared a breakfast table with another couple who had stories far worse than ours. At least the four of us got some interesting stories to tell our friends. We should also add that the distance of our room from the main building itself rendered the feeling of Brafferton more that of a hotel with breakfast than a true Bed and Breakfast. The lack of warmth and outright rudeness of Joan rendered made even more so. On the plus side, our room had a comfortable bed, the food was very good, and they are great about accommodating dietary needs. Coffee/tea/cocoa and cookies are always available in the parlor. The location is nice - right in town and thus within easy walking distance of many restaurants, historic sites, etc. Other than that, we have no more positive things to say about our stay at the Brafferton Inn. We are very much looking forward to visiting Gettysburg again, but we'll steer clear of this place. read more

This B&B is in prime location i'd say. The staff person was friendly on the phone while booking us as well. The house was really neat and the common areas were great to look at. If you are looking for a quaint B&B, this one isn't for you probably because there are a lot of guests staying there and coming and going. The room was very basic and (as a fan of B&B's), I was a little disappointed at how basic it was for the price. However, it met our needs. Breakfast was really good. REALLY good. I have to say though, besides the sweet brunette that gave us our tour, I did not find the staff to be overly warm. It felt like they were more tolerating us that welcoming us as I have felt at other B&B's. read more

4 days prior to our scheduled arrival to the Brafferton Inn, our son sustained a major injury requiring surgery and several days of hospitalization. We called the Brafferton Inn more than 72 hours in advance of our scheduled arrival, and explained our medical situation, at which time we were told 'no refunds' (we tried to cancel through Travelocity as well as directly with the Inn, with no luck) but once we got home and posted several negative reviews about our experience, we then received an email from Brian (the Inn owner) imploring us to try again to cancel and lo and behold, this time, our request was granted. In the end, the matter was resolved but not without significant effort and stress on our part to do so. We would advise any prospective travelers to be aware that the cancellation policy at this establishment is VERY strict. All other travel plans were cancelled with no issues, including flights, tours, and other hotels. The Brafferton Inn was the ONLY place on our scheduled 2 week trip that gave us any problems. read more

Just returned from a long weekend to celebrate 150th at Gettysburg. Stayed at lots of the Gettysburg B&Bs, but this was our first visit to Brafferton. The location is perfect and the inn does some things very well. Our room was initially very clean, the air conditioner worked (a must in the heat), our Jacuzzi tub functioned properly (often promised and rarely found to work) and breakfast was delicious (we particularly appreciated several entrée options). HOWEVER, there were some minor misses that turned into bigger deals. In spite of the heat, cold beverages were never available; we had to buy cold water from down the street. Parking was only provided for two rooms. We had to go outside to get to our room (an issue when caught in a thunderstorm). Although it says "free Wi-Fi," that is limited to common area. Our room was never properly cleaned after arrival; dirty washcloths piled on the sink, tub never rinsed, etc. Staff was a mixed bag. I checked out early to catch a plane, but couldn't find anyone to take the key when actual time to leave and then I was pulled away by Joan to make a pitch for me to write a review on travel website. On the other hand, Brian gave great insider directions. Overall, there are a few better B&Bs in Gettysburg and many worse. read more
