Very disappointing experience for lunch yesterday. Slow service both drink and food. For an appetizer we ordered crab artichoke dip, it came with a crusted cheese top served w crackers, although tastey, impossible to eat without using a sharp knife to cut thru crust, made a mess and hard to share. They need to rethink this, then the stuffed mushroom that way too al dente. Entree's included wilted Caesar salads w overcooked cold grouper. Management was more defensive than helpful, did comp 1 salad, but didn't make up for a bad experience, wasted time and money. Other great options in the area, skip this one! Yum!! We were brought here by very good friends on a quick weekend trip. Excellent ambiance! We were out on the patio. It was breezy, but warm. We started with a seafood pretzel, wow. Amazing! Recommend! Had a Brass Monkey (their signature drink) Yum! I had a bowl of mussels, my bride had a chicken salad wrap, our friends had the seafood chowder and a batch of wings. In Pass-a-Grille for the afternoon, stopped at the Brass Monkey for a late lunch. The restaurant is upstairs, with seating outside on a balcony overlooking the gulf, plus seating at tables, hightops and at the bar. Service is brisk and brusk. Our server seemed disappointed that we had brought our beers from the bar inside and only ordered a single burger and fries to split. (Didn't want to spoil appetite for dinner). The burger was good. Medium rare, as ordered. Crisp lettuce, nicely melted cheddar. Fries are breaded, Checkers-style. Crispy and fresh, delicious dipped in ketchup. Beers icy cold. We walked in and the hostess immediately and repeatedly gave us attitude. The place was mostly empty but she told us we needed to sit at the bar if we only wanted drinks. I explained we were having appetizers as well and wanted to sit at a table. She reluctantly sat us outside at a table but we weren't able to see the TVs which is why we came to watch football. We came back in and asked if we could inside at an available table and she said no and directed us to the bar. The view is amazing if you sit outside during sunset. The food is subpar but as expected from a beach bar. The burger was okay but the mac and cheese bites were delish. My friend got the chicken salad wrap and it was actually very good. Our server was rude though, i would give it a 3/5 if she didnt slam the door on me when I was walking through. "Meh" is the best possible way to sum up eating at this beachside restaurant. The experience itself is always fun. Good music, great view, usually great staff. Everybody knows that you come to this eatery for the beautiful, waterfront view and "good vibes." The food is extremely subpar, and every time we come to this restaurant it gets worse, and the prices continuously go up. We have frequented Brass Monkey for years now, and we are definitely let down more and more each time. The French onion soup was like warm saltwater. The green beans were just lightly cooked and covered in salt. The grouper sandwich was good, but very soggy. The crab cake sandwich was delicious, but also served very soggy. The highlight of Brass Monkey is their dirty monkey drink. It is a very consistent drink, it is always good. Honestly one of the better drinks in the area. Don't go to Brass Monkey for their food, or you will be extremely let down. A soggy sandwich with a side of bagged potato chips is not exactly our definition of good beach food. Order some drinks, watch the sunset, and you'll enjoy your experience. read more

The first thing you'll notice about the Brass Monkey is its homage to Baltimore sports. Upon asking, I found out that the owners are originally from the Charm City. With that comes some distant Baltimore flavors. There's ample seating indoor and outdoor to enforce social distancing. We opted for an indoor table, though the outdoor tables did have a nice view of the water. We ordered fish sticks from the kid's menu at $6 each for 5 fish sticks and fries. My wife ordered a good sized salad with a nice blackened salmon filet on top. I ordered the crab cake reuben. The crab cake meat was clean and contained some nice pieces of lump crab. one of the worst experiences I've encountered at this Restaurant, we put our name down at 5:30 for a table of 6 outside and was told its about 30 to 40 minutes wait not a problem I say, we eventually got a table at 7:15pm one hour and 45 minutes wait so where did they get 30 to 40 minutes wait time from, after ordering our food and a long wait for the main course it arrived stone cold looked like it had been sitting around in the kitchen for awhile, after talking to the manager about the situation he agreed to comp the bill 35%, he then picked up the plates and spilt sauce from one of the plates all over my friends new purse which ended up inside the purse over her phone and belongings, so he then ups the discount to 50% and a free drink (we refused the drink). If you are under staffed maybe think about not taking so many bookings and work on your customer service skills. read more

Ate here last night. The ambiance and setting was amazing. We sat outside on the patio. The food was really good but was way over priced for the portion size. I ordered the grouper Annapolis with fries and coleslaw. The meal was great but the size was more like an appetizer than a meal. My wife got a single crab cake and said it was the best crab cake she has ever had. Note that she has had a lot of crab cakes from all over the US. I had a blue lagoon , wasn't impressed. It's not the price of the meal it's the serving size. Look at how many fries are on the plate. I travel all over and eat at a lot of places. We heard good things about Brass Monkey and decided to try. This place did not disappoint! It is a local place and nothing fancy inside or out but the food was all really good! My daughter had ahi tuna, I had the steamed mussels, and my husband had grouper sandwich. For an appetizer we had to try the candy money balls which was delicious. Soooo not an issue with the restaurant itself but... 20-30 minutes for water in 80+ degree heat. Everything took ages and we were this waitresses only table in sight. Brass Monkey is located in the cutest little area. We ate here after looking for shells at Pass-a-Grille. Unfortunately, we didn't get to take advantage of the view due to our large party. Drinks were good so I was excited for what was to come! I got the grouper ruben (minus bread) and the portion was very generous. Then I heard a shout at the end of the table. My sister found a bee in her salad (she's allergic). She shows a couple others at the table to confirm. As my sister was in tears, another person went to get our server. She comes by apologizing and immediately takes the plate and states she'll take the meal off the bill. As my sister tried to compose herself, still in shock of what could have happened, the manager came by and says "we confirmed it was a moth and everything comes from a farm fresh daily so something must have happened." No apology, no accountability and it was definitely not a moth (although without an allergy, that would be nastier than a bee to me). I have to say we won't be back. The way the manager handled a potentially tragic situation was less than comforting. read more

My most recent visit to the Brass Monkey was on football Sunday. I came in with friends to watch the Ravens Pittsburgh game. I lived in Maryland for 20 years and I am a huge Ravens fan! This is the best place in Florida to watch a Ravens game! The owners were Marylanders as well so I felt right at home. As soon as I walked in and started up the stairs I saw the Ravens carpet. Once upstairs I saw the wall covered with Ravens jerseys. There was Orioles memorabilia as well. I found out on my last visit that every time the Ravens score a touchdown everyone gets a purple Jell-O shot. How cool is this tradition? I loved it! We did not eat any food as we had just came from a late breakfast. But our server came by at least every 10 minutes to see if we needed another drink. She did a great job! There were no seats left in this bar so I know she was extremely busy. I hope to make it back again next year during football season so I can watch at least one Ravens game with a ton of other Ravens fans! read more

I must first explain I am a Baltimore transplant. When I first noticed the restaurant a few years ago I immediately felt like I was back home. Since then my husband and I have stopped getting crabcakes shipped from Baltimore. When we want crabcakes we come to the Brass Monkey. It was just "meh." Not bad food, but it just tasted so basic. The Grouper Rueben was the best thing I tried. It was "meaty" and flaky, pretty decent. The Steak sandwich is LITERALLY a NY Strip in its entirety, covered by a hoagie roll with pretty lettuce and tomato. That said, the steak lacked a little flavor, so I added salt and pepper and it helped. I usually don't go for the A1 Sauce, but this steak needed it. The service was the biggest "meh" part. We ordered monkey balls, which were four small crab cakes in a ball shape. They came out semi warm, tasted fine. We then waited another 40 minutes for our dinner sandwiches. We never got our shrimp, when we told our waitress she seemed unaware. We asked our waitress midway how long it would be and she said she didn't know. The service was extremely slow. Berry and Kelly are terrific, super sweet folks. For nearly 20 years they have taken a hands on approach, meaning they are there everyday!
