Looking on the outside you would never think it would be as good as it was. Many selections of draft beer; mainly craft beer on tap however they have all kinds of beer. I really wanted to support this local business. The brisket sweet potato fries were good, and the beer was cold. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. Then I ordered the wings - 10 for $15.00. They were small and overcooked. I asked for an extra side of ranch dressing to go. No problem until I received the bill. The bartender added $0.50 for literally a tablespoon of sauce. I complained. The bartender shrugged. I tipped accordingly. This will be my last visit to Brass Tap in Roanoke. I understand that costs have gone up, but the wings weren't good. Then to add $0.50 for a penny's worth of dressing? I really think this business should re-evaluate its priorities. I'm really disappointed to have to give a bad review. I left my phone number. Maybe they will call me... I'm modifying this review because the owner responded but did not allow for further comments. He did issue a credit on my bill and accuse me of insulting his bartender, which is absolutely untrue. Then he ripped me for making a big deal out of "a minuscule $0.50." He also took time to tell me that I did not tip the bartender appropriately and that I should have talked to a manager. I actually gave the bartender ample opportunity to remedy the problem. He refused. I shouldn't have to ask to see a manager. And yes, I really wanted to and I really have supported this business - many times, so no, I'm not being disingenuous. We have been coming here for about 4 years and will continue to. The owner and the staff are always friendly and helpful. They have a wide selection of beer, drinks and food. We particularly like the fish and chips, fries, ad brussel sprouts. Lots of TVs and a great place to watch a game. Adult and family friendly. Recommend highly. read more

This place is very good. I love the shrimp and grits appetizer. It's ridiculous how good it is. I was really surprised about the burger I had. They do all the little things right to make really wonderful food. IT's hidden and hard to find in the dark. Came in on a Thursday eve for a chill drink. Usually it's pretty mellow on weekdays. Tonight there was super loud rock music, everyone was shouting (because the music was so loud). Not a chill neighborhood bar experience! I don't know if this is a new vibe or just a weird Thursday but didn't enjoy. Would also love to see more full pour IPAs, all but 2 were only 12/13 oz pours. read more

Saturday evening 5pm. They weren't busy yet. Three people at our table wanted to order flights to try some different types of beer. We were told that they only had enough glasses for two people. That's a total of eight glasses. SAY WHAT !!! We surveyed the room and there were no other flights on tables. We all were at a loss. Surely they have more than 8 flight glasses. I'll start by qualifying that this review is mostly about food service/quality. If you're just coming here for drinks, I would definitely rate this a 4.5.... Tried shrimp basket (w/crinkle fries), and the all-American single pub burger (w/tater tots). Shrimp breading was much too thick, and seemed to be very similar if not the same as the tater tot breading. With so much breading, the shrimp was lost in the flavor. Crinkle fries were very good, almost excellent. The pub burger was good, but the I've had much more tasty Angus burgers at places like Grub. I thought I would try the Tater Tots since I really miss Bar Louie tots! Unfortunately, these were home-made tots made in larger hush-puppy-sized balls. They had little taste, and the texture just seemed wrong. Almost forgot, we had chips and salsa to start. Chips were thin out-of-the-bag type, and the salsa, while good, was pretty darn hot to fully enjoy with a beer. read more

This was our second visit. The first was excellent however this evening they had live music. The amps were so loud there was no way to visit with the person in the next chair. They have a self seating concept when you come in. There's a good amount of high top and low top tables to choose from along with a bar area. Only took a minute or so for a waitress to come acknowledge us and take our drink order. I was pleasantly surprised to see Lindeman's Framboise on the menu; it's a sour wheat beer with a sweet flavor. We got the house-made guacamole and chips for an appetizer and it was quite delicious although the chips easily broke when trying to scoop up with the delicious, thick guac. My husband ordered the Blackberry Farm grilled cheese sandwich and I got the Boom Boom Shrimp. The sandwich came out in a reasonable amount of time but the shrimp (for being an appetizer item) took longer for some reason. Our waitress was attentive and considerate to bring out our check early due to our time constraints. Overall, we enjoyed the restaurant and will be back as there were more options on the menu we would like to try in the future! read more

We had the most unfortunate and bizarre encounter with the manager. Backstory, we are regulars to trivia night and paid for our meal with gift cards won during trivia. The tab totaled $70. We put the food on the gift card & drinks/tips in cash. The manager comes over then asks us to tip on the total amount, not just the drinks, in which we replied we did. We left a $14 tip on the $70 bill, and she claimed we only left $6. Basically shaming us to tip more (they deducted the wrong amounts from the gift card/money) then accused us of not tipping at least 20%. I was embarrassed and angry over this treatment because we are regulars and we always have the same server and always tipped decently - if not more than the 20%. She says wait staff only gets paid $2 something an hour and relies on tips. Why doesn't the owner pay them more? The industry is stacked against wait staff and I get that the manager is trying to look out for her people. But we weren't trying to short change anyone and the scene it caused in the restaurant trying to explain how she should've divided the cards/cash tip made us look like a-holes to everyone else in the restaurant. read more

Super friendly service from the bartender. Don't remember her name but a young woman, petite with long dark hair. She was very knowledgeable of the 60+ beers they had on draft and the breweries they came from. My husband got a flight of dark beers and I just had a pint. Their burgers are delicious. I recommend getting two sliders if you aren't super hungry; it's a nice reasonable serving size. The house made tater tots are off the chain. We're definitely coming back soon. read more

Came here for a work dinner with co-workers. We sat on the patio since it was a nice evening and they have these awesome heaters that keep the temp reasonable. Had the Buffalo Wrap and it was good. I love the Tap. My kids love the Tap. The pretzel bites are the best. Flatbreads are good as well. Great for after-work happy hour or just a casual day-drinking, sports-watching session. Staff is always friendly and attentive. My only gripe is that they don't update the draught beer menu often enough (and the draught selection seems to have become more sparse since they opened). Went there last night (February 5) and the menu was dated January 31. Meh. Not a huge deal but worth a mention. Won't subtract a star for it because there's always something new to try. I visited for the first time for a networking event. I was pleasantly surprised. The group bought sliders, pretzel bites, french fries, mini-pizza's for us to snack on, they were all really good. Stopped here for the first time this weekend for a couple of beers and to try out this new location. This is going to be a great addition to the area and had a really nice casual, neighborhood feel to it. There is seating both inside and outside on a patio. There are lots of TVs with sports going, and the music was pretty good, although it was a little loud. The beer selection provided a lot of options. There was a nice selection on tap, but even more in cans and bottles. I was able to find some new beers to try. There are a lot of local beers available but also found some fun imports on the menu. This is a great place for untapped users to expand their list. The tap menu is reprinted every day as the taps are constantly changing. We order some food to eat with our beer. The pretzel was the best and was easy to share as it is already cut up into little nuggets. The pretzel some with a nice mustard, cheese or humus of dipping. We also ordered the nachos and were not impressed with them. There were not as many toppings as we expected and the "Korean BBQ" pulled pork did was tasty but did not taste like any Korean BBQ I have tried. Our waitress must have still have been learning, it was their first week after all. Hopefully, she will get stronger with time. We will definitely be back to try some more beer and food. read more
