AMAZING food and staff. Everyone was so friendly and fast! We will definitely be going back!!

Went here for dinner as a last minute stop to get our family dinner while everywhere else had endless waits. We were greeted and sat immediately. It was busy, and dinner is still a newer addition to this establishment, we still had a fantastic meal! It was not overpriced, everything came out steaming hot, and I was even pleasantly surprised the manager dropped off a packet of butter for my broccoli on a whim that it would taste better with it (which I totally agree but hadn't thought of). Super friendly, slightly slow but it was really busy, and my tea was always refilled, so any slowness didn't bother me, and my wife insists the shrimp and grits were some of the best she's ever had! read more

My husband and I had a wonderful breakfast this morning. I had the traditional eggs Benedict and my husband had eggs and hash browns. Both were very good. The hollandaise sauce was the perfect velvety lemon. I had the tiny tomato side with herbs which was the perfect compliment to the rich egg dish. Service was excellent. We came in for lunch on our way out of oak island. We had our two kids with us and our server was extremely accommodating, even bringing our 2 year old a puzzle to keep her occupied while we waited on our food. Stopped here for brunch on Sunday. I got a breakfast plate (scrambled eggs, bacon, grits), other people got hash browns, a breakfast sandwich and a yogurt bowl. Everyone said their food was absolutely delicious. Really really good eggs, bacon, grits, and granola. The hash browns were some of the best I've ever had (better than Waffle House.) Also the service was fast and the staff were very friendly and accommodating despite the fact that the place was slammed. Next time we're in Oak Island we'll make a point to go back. read more

This place was a not-so-hidden gem. We ordered the Seafood Platter with broccoli/mashed potatoes, Mahi-Mahi tacos, the chicken bacon wrap, and a burger. All the food was stellar! They only served one crab cake on the platter but it was the size of my palm! My sister loved it and there was practically no filler bread in it. The pico on the tacos was very fresh tasting. Everyone loved the food and wanted to come again. I will say the service was a little slow, but the staff are attentive and nice. We ended up staying later than the closing time on accident and they were so kind! Absolutely recommend. read more

I had high hopes for The Break but unfortunately they fell short. I wouldn't waste my time eating there again if the food was free. It was New Years but they weren't really all that busy. The problem is they were understaffed. Multiple times the staff stated that half the people working that day didn't even work there. Apparently the nice hostess who told us that it would be a 15 min wait was a neighbor of the owners and was just giving them a hand. It ended up being a 45 min wait because they didn't have the staff to serve and cook fast enough. We watched 6 tables clear and then a 10 min wait after that before they would seat anyone else and they were nowhere near capacity to begin with. I'm just saying that delays like that are something you should disclose to customers on the front end not everyone wants to clear their schedule for a sandwich and a biscuit. We were finally seated then it took approx 10 min before a server came to us. She filled our drink order then disappeared again for over 10 min. Finally, we placed an order. It was about 40 min after the food order was placed that it showed up. Mine was a cheesesteak and it had the texture and taste of ground beef. It still tasted ok but not what I was expecting and definitely not worth the wait. The waffle fries were good. One more issue. I went to the bathroom and looked back at the door frame and there is quite a large gap that you can see through and likewise be seen through, and that, in my opinion is definitely unacceptable. Overall, I would have to say that this is a business more focused on making a $ than providing quality service and customer satisfaction. They were open on a day where they clearly could not operate at an acceptable level and they should have closed the doors. When I eat at a place where they are so short staffed they can't seat folks and serve them in a somewhat reasonable time frame I definitely question what corners they are cutting in other areas such as cleanliness and the other things you don't see! Oh, and the sweet tea was horrible, watered down, and virtually tasteless. read more

No urgency by staff to take order, order was incorrect when it finally arrived (it was not crowded), tables too close to each other and food was mediocre at best. Will not patron this establishment again. read more

The best word to use for the food is mediocre. No care in how it looks, just throw it together and serve it. As for the service, the wait person I had an "I don't care" look on her face but was nice enough. Bottom line, if you want good food and service, go somewhere else. read more

My wife and I had lunch here recently. We both had the grilled tuna sandwiches with waffle fries. We like our tuna cooked rare and they cooked it perfectly. The ginger sauce that came with it was outstanding. The fries were delicious. We had iced tea but I'm not sure if they offer adult beverages. Our server did a great job. Also, the breakfast options on the menu looked enticing. We will definitely be back! read more

this is by far the most unwelcoming restaurant in Oak Island. We arrived and yes it was packed, however the waitress was very unhelpful. She stated that the wait would be 15 minutes. We agreed to be put on a waitlist, we pulled out to go to the gas and realize she never called us back. But before that, we asked could we just get a takeout. She went back inside to ask, came back and told us that they were not allowing takeout because they were so busy. This was very unprofessional and very unwelcoming to someone new to this location. If you're going to put someone on the waitlist actually use it. It was also drizzling outside, and they make you wait outside which is also unprofessional. We went in and sat at the open seats at the bar- as every other restaurant I've ever been to is first come first serve bar seating....we waited a long time to be acknowledged and when we finally were the waitress was extremely rude and asked us to leave the bar since there was a wait and evidently the bar seating is by hostess only..there was no sign saying wait to be seated or anything so we left- very rude. I used to be a waitress myself and would never have treated customers this way. read more

My boyfriend and I dined here on Labor Day vacation and all we have to say is... WOW!!!! Heather, our server, guided our meal with expertise and was so polite. I had the short board, a breakfast platter with choice of meat, an egg, toast, and grits/hash browns/ potatoes (in my case, grits). We were delighted to find that they were Heather's proprietary recipe! My boyfriend had the lifeguard Benedict, topped with hollandaise and lump crab meat, and it was incredible and fresh. This place is under new management since we ate there last 2019 - food was ok - very California vibe food choices - their "shredded" hash browns were terrible - first batch was cold and raw - second batch really not better even though I asked for "crispy" - BLT with avocado was just okay!
