We called ahead and were able to get a reservation for an early dinner at 6 p.m. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived, but by the time we left about two hours later, it was completely packed. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow, which seemed to be mainly due to the restaurant being understaffed. Every part of the meal took quite a while, from drinks and appetizers to the entrees, but we tried to remain patient and understanding. We were two couples and ordered a mix of appetizers and entrees, and the food was excellent across the board. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and had just the right amount of heat. Thai & Vine has a bit of a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant feel while also trying to offer a more polished, upscale dining experience. Most importantly, the quality of the food is phenomenal. I'm hoping the staffing issue was just an off night and not a regular occurrence, because the food alone makes this a place worth coming back to. The ambiance was great, relaxing, and we were surprised at no wait time for our party of 7 but literally waited an hour and half before our food came out which was cold. EVERYTHING is tempura fried - Calamari appetizer contained mostly veggie tempura with few pieces of seafood, the seafood special with mussels literally contained 2 mussels and 2 pieces of shrimp, all tempura fried, just everything was not at the level it should have been based on pricing. This place is great! We had a family lunch here. It was very quiet inside as well as nicely decorated and well kept. Our starters were great. Our main lunches were great. The orange chicken was really good, super crispy and such a fresh sauce. The coconut curry was really good. The chicken was also great and tasted really good with the sauce. Let me start by saying the food here is very good. The food is not the problem. The waitstaff and time it took to get our food was the problem which unfortunately made for a very poor experience. The wait time and the staffs lack of attention towards their customer was such a problem that a couple next to us walked out because service was so bad. We just wanted to leave after waiting over an hour to get our food but couldn't because we had to try and track down our waitress who never came to check on us even once for refills or to even see how the food was when finally did get it. My wife and I are frequent visitors to Oak Island and have wanted to try this place for a while but never got around to it. We decided to give it a try on Saturday. We were seated in the main room next to a very large party that were so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. We asked the woman who seated us if we could move seats and apparently that didn't make her happy. She rudely pointed to another room so we started walking in that direction, as we walked by an empty table my wife asked "here?" and the lady with attitude said "fine" and literally threw the menus on the table and walked away. This week we ventured in for a quick look and to grab some delicious takeout. I'm looking forward to a return visit when I'll be able to sit down, relax, and enjoy a leisurely meal. The wait for any service was long I have been here in the past and had good food but this time I must've ordered the wrong meal as it was just meh Very tasteless and boring The ginger veggies with chicken Should have done a curry dish for flavor Also the appetizer grilled octopus is actually tempura! Wow! Another outstanding Asian restaurant in the area, this one on OKI. Thai and Vine looks very unassuming from the outside, but quite nice on the inside with mostly booths and even cloth napkins. As soon as we sat down, the server was there to take our drink order from the very decent wine list. A limited number of beers are also available, including Thai Singha, and Japanese Sapporo and Asahi. The menu has many choices from appetizers to entrees and desserts. I chose the Chicken Cashew Nut with perfectly crisp vegetables and pineapple bits in a brown sauce. The chicken breast pieces were moist and tender - a delight to the palate. My friend ordered Garlic Pork and had the same reaction. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection! With no room for anything else, we packed up our leftovers to eat later at home.
