Yes it's touristy. But it's also totally worth a visiting the oldest bar in the state. They have a decent selection of craft beers and craft cocktails. Service was excellent. Just a old timey things they have in it makes it worth stopping in for a drink and an appetizer and maybe even lunch. I went to college in Ellensburg and used to love hitting up this place for Taco Tuesdays and watching some of our friends' bands play. My college roommate was even a bartender here for a while. I normally love the spot. With that in mind, my friend and I decided to take a day trip to Roslyn and remember some of the fun we had there. When we walked in, there were no masks in site, including both bartenders. It felt uncomfortable enough that we only ended up grabbing a beer and then left. The attitude from the male bartender was quite rude; the female working was cordial. I don't remember the brick ever having the best service, but the food was always good, and people were cordial. This time between no masks and almost feeling like a record scratched when we walked in, it was not what I remembered at all. read more

A group of us went to the Brick for dinner Friday night. we sat at a long table that already had three younger people sitting, we knew them so that was fine. they were just finishing their dinner. the server, Sarah came over to take a drink order and a few of us ordered bar drinks the others ordered soda. She then took our dinner order, I asked for the 2 slider meal and two others said they also wanted the sliders. my husband asked if him and I could have a separate check and she said no. he asked if we moved to our table could we get a separate check and she said no that she already knew we were with the other 3. We shrugged and decided to make the best of it. My husband had a White Russian and it was served with heavy ice in a short glass. he finished it before he was done with his dinner. He asked another waitress if he could order another and was told that he was cut off. He asked why and she said you're slurring your words. ?? then the other group handed a paper bill and some cash saying that they had billed the whole table together and added a mandatory 20% tip. We weren't even ready to go but for whatever reason our whole group was cut off, even the soda drinkers. we weren't loud,the place wasn't busy, and we were just a group of five. A brought the bill to the bar and explained the situation. She said she could split the bill but we still had to pay a 20% gratuity whether we wanted to or not. We chose to pay cash without the tip. 10 times in Roslyn and 10 times in the Brick. Excellent food. I had grilled chicken burger, and the breast was split in half and seasoned all over. What a great idea! Waffle fries are crisp, well seasoned, and tasty. Burgers equally delicious considering how fast they dispersed into thin air. And they have local Roslyn Beer, cold, and delivered fast. But what elevates this place above many other "younger" bars, it is not the amazing food, great service, and cold beer, but the staff that will drop their work and come out to help you (show you:) how to change a flat tire and as an award accept only a hug. On our return home from our amazing time there, I made a stop in Roslyn specifically for a visit to The Brick. I had both of my adult children in the car, and while they mentioned there was better food in other restaurants in town, I insisted we go there. While I am aware the food quality is mediocre at best, I thought the 'atmosphere' would make up for it. I was W R O N G. I want to stop here and mention while we are in the middle of a pandemic, eating out was somewhat of a luxury I hadn't experienced in a while. As it was our birthdays, I thought this restaurant would be happy having customers sitting and eating. Or, at least one would hope. I've been to the Brick on two other occasions. The place is very casual, but in my other two experiences, the service was always relatively friendly. On this visit. NOT SO MUCH. Seth, our waiter, sets down three plastic glasses of water and tells us if we want refills "there's a cooler filled with water at the other end of the restaurant--so please help yourself. " Interesting. The table of 4 young cute girls received water and a pitcher full just in case they wanted refills. Guess we just weren't cute enough for Seth to share the same courtesy, We order a round of cocktails, which actually show up. Yay! That's a good sign. He took our order, and 15 minutes later, my son and I both get our food delivered my son asks for Sriracha Sauce. We wait, thinking my daughters meal was on its way......but it never showed up nor did the Sriracha. Seth was no where to be found. We wave down a young woman who was dropping food to another table, and ask about the location of my daughter's meal....and the Sriracha Sauce for my sons fries. She leaves never to return. Naturally, I feel badly for my daughter, so I get up, go to the bar and ask for help. She tells me to go find Seth who's gone MIA. Once I locate Seth, I ask if he is aware my daughter has no food, and my son has no Sriracha Sauce. He tells me the food is on its way. Really? How long? 10 minutes. I suggested perhaps it would be considered a GOOD IDEA to communicate such information to customers. He seemed quite confused and was unsure how to respond. I dunno.....perhaps APOLOGIZE FOR THE SITUATION??????? WOW. about 20 minutes later, after our meals had been consumed and my daughter left to find food elsewhere, Seth shows up with my daughters meal in a box. Still no Sriaracha. That's ok.....the fries were long gone. I find this sheer disregard for a HORRIBLE SERVICE EXPERIENCE by Seth, a non existent manager, lead, owner ANYONE who may be paying attention. After the struggle all restaurants are experiencing after this long Covid issue you would think MINIMUM EXPECTATION is service would be exceptional. You would assume servers would want to make money by giving paying customers the respect they deserve by communicating an error when one takes place. Then FIXING IT. This place is a shambles. The lackadaisical attitude towards service at any level is offensive. Listen up Brick management (if there is one) your food isn't good enough to warrant such arrogance. Good food and local beer served at this historic and pop-cultural iconic saloon! The Brick has been around for over 100 years (est. 1889) it's still serving up hot food, cold drinks, and live entertainment to the masses that travel through Roslyn. This place has the kind of well-worn and comfortable atmosphere that is really uncommon in these parts-- because there are very few saloons/taverns/pubs in the PNW that can claim to have been in business continuously for over a century. I'm sure that the traffic at this establishment has increased considerably since 1990 when the television show 'Northern Exposure' premiered and featured the exterior of this and other Roslyn buildings; the impact of that show can still be seen in the droves of camera-toting tourists (myself included) coming through town every day. On my most recent trip through Roslyn a group of us stopped at The Brick shortly after they had opened to fuel up before a hike. I was a little disappointed that this place doesn't offer a breakfast menu, but everyone else was OK with burgers and such for a late breakfast so I was willing to 'go with the flow'. The place was busy but far from crowded; our server was prompt and friendly. I ordered the bacon cheddar burger with fries and an iced tea: Juicy burger with crisp bacon and vegetables, fresh and well seasoned waffle fries, and fresh unsweetened iced tea with refills-- yum! The Brick also has beer from the Roslyn Brewing Company (located a block away on the same street), so I had to try one of these as well: also quite tasty. Looking forward to returning the next time I'm in town, perhaps even to catch a live band in the back room on a weekend night. read more

We were with a group of 8 celebrating a 50th birthday. We stopped for lunch and drinks. We ended up getting the rudest girl who who only took half our groups order and walked away. She dropped off our drinks and walked off. Several minutes later we stopped her and asked if we could finish our order. She stated she didn't know that everyone wanted something. Very disappointing since we were here Friday and had excellent service. If you are in a customer service job and work for tips you should be more pleasant or find another career path. read more

There's nothing like a good cold beer and some grub after hiking through the woods and testing the temperature of the lakes you encounter. On the way back I decided to stop by this little bar in Roslyn, The Brick. Service was EXCELLENT... literally had 2 waitresses taking care of me and yes, they did have other customers and they share tips at the end of the day. Good conversation, personal and nothing but smiles. Had a bleu cheese and grilled onion burger. The burger was mediocre, but the beer hit the spot. Previously, I've tasted there beer battered halibut and that was pretty good. Got out of there with a tab of about $15, plus tip... $10 is a little pricey for the burger that was only served with chips (you can get fries or salad for an extra dollar)... but just for the ambiance and service, it was worth it.... read more

After spending five hours on the road with two friends trying to find an available camping spot (to no avail) we decided to take a break at the Brick. Our server, Amy. was so incredibly sweet to us- truly the small-town charm. Food wasn't anything special but first of all Amy was so wonderful to us and gave us a ton of suggestions on where to camp, second of all she bought us two rounds of PUDDING SHOTS. If you have never had a pudding shot- it's worth a drive out to Roslyn just to try them. We have tried to come to The Brick a few times and they were closed. Today we succeeded and were so excited to finally find out what the hype was about. While they were busy, staff was always attentive and friendly. Scotty was especially quick to ask about our order and offer suggestions. My husband said his Cuban sandwich was the best he's ever had. I'm gluten free and this place has options! I had a delicious GF blue cheese burger. The rosemary fries were fantastic - all flavor, no grease. While I'm sure locals love this place - and are valued by the restaurant - they treat visitors with the same welcome attitude (sometimes this isn't always the case). Small town bar with a small town feel. Roslyn dark lager was cold and tasty, and the shrimp basket was hot and delicious. It would have been nice if they had what dipping sauce I'd prefer, as they give one each of cocktail and tartar, and I could have done with two cocktail and no tartar. Onion rings are good too, though I didn't order them... once just came with my shrimp. If arriving later at night, they check IDs at the door and will stamp. I'm not positive, but I'd assume that the fact that they stamp over 21 means under can come in, they just won't get a stamp. Love that they had a band, since the pool tables were all occupied it was nice to be able to go watch the live band it was two venues in one. Ordered food, the pozole was alright but could have used less cilantro and the mozzarella stocks were pretty good. Service was great! Bartenders working that evening were all super friendly! The Brick is a famous bar that has been in this location for at least a century, I believe. Prominently located on the main corner of town, it is easy to get to, with plenty of parking. It can get a bit busy inside, for the nostalgia, but they have a huge dining area in the back. Check out the huge bar when you're there - it's a relic! The food is decent - typical bar menu. The service is fantastic, however. You won't have to wait long to get your order taken and your meal delivered. It all just makes for a great experience that keeps me coming back. read more

This is a bar with good bar food. Think of it as a restaurant, and you'll be disappointed. It's been there a good long while -- long enough to remember when this was a mining town, and transportation was via horse. The bar is huge, and it's the happening place in Roslyn. The trough at your feet has sawdust in it to absorb spills -- that tells you a lot about it's history. I've been coming here for about 15 years on and off. This was my last time in. First, we got two sandwiches. A Reuben and a Turkey, bacon avocado. Both with sides. Cole slaw and fries. We each got a half pint of beer. The food is pretty low mid level pub food. Not great. Not awful. However, each sandwich is already priced at $16 and $17. Once the bill came we saw they charge $1 extra for the side. So that's $17 and $18 for a pub sandwich and a side. This isn't Seattle. The biggest flaw was in the price of the half pints, though. They were $6.50. This was a surprise. That's more like a pint price. So I asked how much a pint was after we got our bill and she said $7.50. Head scratcher. So a pint is $7.50 but a half pint is $6.50?!? If I had gotten two half pints it would have been $13 a pint?!? Insane. I've never seen that kind of discrepancy before. The prices here are ridiculous for the quality. All in, $62 for two sandwiches and two half pints. I won't be back again. read more

Came here last weekend for a day trip. This bar has been in Roslyn for over 100 years which shows with its antique bar and structure. There is actually a running water trough underneath the bar top for men to spit their chewy into from back in the day which still works! The bar was super full and with the amount of pool tables and long table layout it can be hard to find a place to sit on a busy day. There also is no air conditioning inside so be prepared and sit by a fan! The food was great, really enjoyed the fries. The French dip I had was generously full of steak. Yummy. I would come back if I came back for a day trip. Also if the bar is full be prepared to wait 30 minutes to get your food, they get backed up pretty fast. read more

Except the offerings and prices. I ended up taking the kid out to hwy 10. He needed to get some tools from some one. So I decided since we are not that much further. I'll take him to the Brick. The food was pretty good. The service was really bad! Our waitress Sarah eventually brought menus. She seemed to have time for every table but ours. When our order arrived, no napkins and no silverware. We could not get Sarah's attention so my mom went up to the bar. Same story with a to go box and the check.... we asked for the check twice and the 2nd time she snapped at us "I know, I will bring it." Our family stopped for lunch on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. It was busy and we expected to wait. The tables were all full and we got in line behind another group. The staff completely ignored all of us and avoided eye contact at all costs. There was a hostess working, however she did not acknowledge our presence, not even once. After about 20 minutes, one of the waiters stopped to let the line know they would seat people when tables became available. We finally were seated after about 35 minutes. I was waiting for my lady to join while taking in the beer menu (amazing prices, solid offering) for a few minutes. Definitely a few more than the usual patron but only three-four minutes, tops. In that time I had several strange encounters with service staff. Not so subtle "move yourself" suggestions from no less than three people. I get it, folks. You're working, and I'm somehow in the way?! Despite it being 3:30pm on a Sat. and the ONLY person standing between bar and booths. After the third encounter I grabbed drinks and sauntered over to a seat, hoping to largely be left alone by staff. Not so lucky... While there was only one exchange between me and the servers before departure, I was again disappointed in their attitude and rudeness. Bummer. I've worked in a bar before. I know you develop skills to subtly nudge patrons towards your goal. But these folks just didn't get it.
