I realized there's a small cafe on Holman Road. Next to a gas station and some other local businesses; just across the street from Dick's! I just so happen to drive on that road most days twice a day... how did I not realize this place was here? Anyway... The café itself is quite small. It's clean and sleek with great music! There's just enough space for about 4 or 5 people without it feeling too crammed. Their OG cafecito caught my eye as I've had many in Mexico City, so I had to try it! It's their take on café de olla which is a Mexican drink, made traditionally in a clay pot ("olla") with spices e.g. cinnamon, piloncillo, etc. The person working there --which I've seen from other reviews is the owner-- was efficient, prompt and friendly. Really no complaints or issues when it comes to service. Unfortunately I found the coffee to not live up to its $7.90 (inc. tip) price tag. I could definitely taste the cinnamon and chocolate notes but the coffee itself wasn't great. I felt like the espresso shot was burnt or something as it had a bitter aftertaste. I don't think I'll be ordering that again. However there were many other items on the menu that looked tasty that I might wanna try some other time. It was briefly open with super early business hours, then closed. I decided to stop by to check it out midday (6/1/24) after noticing the updated hours on Yelp. Really tight and full shared parking lot with Tacos & Beer and the nearby gas station. Tiny pocket cafe. There's only a window counter with limited seating available. So this is not the place to hang out en masse or to camp out with your laptop. However, I love the concept of indie cafes, big or small. Clearly the owner of OG Coffee is living the dream of crafting coffee beverages and selling wholesale also as a micro-roaster. He partners with Maiz and their four Seattle locations at the moment. He hopes to have baked goods available onsite and mentioned featuring Macrina pastries. I enjoyed my chat with Aldo, a very personable proprietor and very proud of his business. I learned also that he was a painter and world traveler. Pretty cool. Anyways, OG Coffee was opened briefly earlier this year, but had to deal with various logistics hence the shut down period. I timed my visit well as this is OG Coffee's soft opening part 2. The grand opening is scheduled for June 15th, two Saturdays from today. I ended up savoring my mocha later while visiting Carkeek Park. On point, balanced 16oz mocha! Another place to add to my indie cafe rotation. I had a work from home day and spent my whole day there tucked away in a booth. There's plenty of seating and even an upstairs that takes even more away from any noise. It's a decent amount of biscuit with large chunks of ham and there plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the morning that isn't hustle and bustling like in downtown. I walked further to the metro bus stop down the street and was tempted to check the local dispensary on the next block but ran out of time. Their breakfast sandwich is literally $13 for a $5 sandwich. Today I had a simple drip coffee. This was $5.77 Then, you notice a jar for tips, and it has a sign that says, "You have already tipped, but jar is for more tips if you want to" So, yeah.... This means already damn expensive items having tipping built on top of the pricing, and the biggest issue is that you are tipping without your own choice, AND it is done before you have even received ANY service. Wait a minute.. there actually IS NO SERVICE. You order at counter. You operate the card reader yourself. The woman behind counter lifts a coffee pot, and pours it into your cup. That is literally all she does. Then you... go to the other counter to add your own cream. Nobody has come to my table to ask me if I want anything else, or how is everything, etc. Don't correct to clear your own table, because they have it set up for you to do that to. I forgot to mention the creamer was spoiled, so the coffee was not drinkable.

Definitely a quiet cafe with dim lighting and most people reading, doing laptop work, or with headphones in. I highly enjoyed the outside seating with benches available. You are welcome to bring your cat or dog outside as long as you are respectful and pick up after any accidents or mess. The menu is much more affordable than other nearby coffee shops. A simple menu with an extensive list of syrups. For my first visit I chose a hot hazelnut latte with hemp milk. Coffee was standard and did the job. I also chose a pound cake with chocolate and vanilla which was okay but a little dry. I really appreciate and praise this cafe for caring about the earth and encouraging customers to dine in or bring their own personal cups. Definitely a cozy and solid spot in the area.

They are coming up on their first decade next summer. The cafe decor also held up pretty well, including the large glass fixture from the ceiling. Seattle Sunshine Coffee also outlived Ventoux that I had mentioned in my prior post. The barista and I compared my 2016 stamp card to the current design, just had a few slight different nuances. This indie cafe had folks onsite, but not packed. There was still room available whether seated along the sidewalk, main seating area, or the upstairs mezzanine. Some convos to be had, but most of the cafe clientele were on their laptops or reading. Pastry case was well stocked with the wholesale variety from Macrina, plus the usual bevs and cafe fare. I enjoyed my near two hour onsite visit. The only thing I wished is that I had brought a hoodie. The AC was jacked up. and of course, I had savored an iced mocha. Hopefully my next cafe detour won't take nine years though between visits.
