I have dealt with Bridgeport Management Company for the past 9 years for where I live at Galindo Woods. I am an onsite homeowner as well as a board member. I've so enjoyed working with the people in the office thru emergencies and normal daily issues. I've always gotten a quick response and a quick call back. I feel like there a part of my family. Whenever I had a water leak, landscape issue, gate problem or dog poop problem, they took care of it right away. I could call them in the middle of the night and always got a quick return call Brian, Bill and Joanie are wonderful to work with and right on top of things. Rude staff, totally no knowledge of my condo complex. Gave me a run around for two months to get covered attic drain leak repaired and ceiling repaired. They have no idea how to manage a condo complex. When I first reported this they didn't even know we had a flat section to our roofs with a drain in the attic and kept telling me the roof was fine. They took over our property at least 8yrs ago and it has been the worst experience. I've owned my condo for 24yrs so I know how we were managed before. I've complained about my neighbors commercial gardening Triler being parked in his driveway for over a year. Our HOA has rules against parking comercial vehicles on the street and driveway. They can be parked in the arage. The Bridgeport Company is the HOA mangement company and our point of contact for reporting violations. The Bridgeport Company acknowledges that violations are being committed but has not done enought to make my neighbor abide by the rules. We bought our condo two years ago. I've called a few time regarding 1) a stolen bike from the gated garage. 2) An outdoor light that was out 3) broken garage door 4) call box number change. All I head every single time from Joanie was she couldn't help and it was basically all my own problem (with the exception of the garage door) We pay 650 per month with NO amenities. Then we get a letter saying we all units owe 4,500 due to "unforeseen expenses." Sounds like money mismanagement to me. Absolutely, completely unacceptable. Bridgeport is unhelpful, unresponsive, and never proactive about issues. For the amount of HOA each unit has to pay ($480+ from 50+ units a month), there really isn't anything to show for it. Plants are often times dead. Common areas are always a mess and nasty. Gates, elevators, and doors are in a constant state of "under repair" every other day it seems. Security is nonexistent with residents being robbed in a rainbow of ways every week. I rarely speak poorly of any company, but they really are awful. I don't know why our board ever chose them. I really wish we'd change companies already! UGH. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THIS COMPANY: RUN. Fast. As far away from them as quickly as possible. Called this management firm on behalf of one of our new clients inquiring on a missing payment, I was immediately faced with terrible customer service from the gal who answered the line. Instead of her taking the time to actually listen to my questions she immediately snapped back with snarky uninformed answers. Instead of her taking her time to listen and actually try and figure out what the problem was, she transferred me over to the "so called Office Manager" who had an equally terrible attitude. After repeating myself for the 3rd or 4th time, they finally attempted to pause for a bit and stop being so reactive to give me semi accurate information, however I still don't believe that they properly researched the matter as my client and their tenant have yet to locate the missing payment. Not looking forward to having to reach out to them again and try and locate the payment and problem solve. I can see why they have a 1.8 star rating, I personally don't understand how they're still in business. read more

I just purchased a condo a week and a half ago, I emailed Alvaro regarding my parking spaces and to get my name added to the callbox. He never responded so I called ..he said he would call me back in 30 minutes. He never did! I emailed him again...still no response. This company is unresponsive. Every time I have a visitor I have to walk out to the gate and click them in! We're not off to a good start. We're paying HOa for a unresponsive company. I would give them a minus 10 if I could. They have spent a year not fixing a water leak under the street. Water runs freely when irrigation is on. And we are in a drought! They continue to say it is because the Board does not make decisions, but that is hard to believe. Regardless, don't use this company. They cannot get anything done. read more

I am having the same issue with this property management. Other than the guy named Alex that I talked to (who is friendly, helpful and great to work with), everyone else there seems to be cranky, confrontational and downright rude. Whatever happened to customer service and being helpful? Not with Bridgeport. With Bridgeport, throw everything friendly out the door and welcome interrogation. I called with electrical issues. they did everything in their power to make sure that they don't have to do anything and that you don't ever want to contact or talk to them ever. So instead of calling them, you would rather shoot yourself. Seriously. I had to hire different technicians per their request. they said that these were our responsibility (even in some of the common area like the main breaker room, which was the reason why i was confused. we are not even granted access to those rooms so it seemed even more odd to me - plus, not all CC&Rs state that those would be our responsibility - anyway, that's a separate issue.) One of the licensed technicians I hired clearly asked me to relay this message to the Property Management: When were the vents cleaned? Common vents may be a fire hazard - they thought that the clogging in the vents were overheating the wiring and shutting the main power off. I relayed the message to Karla twice. I have yet to hear back from Karla. I honestly believe that they are the worst property management company ever... playing with the home owners' safely! No update telling me, I received the information, we will look into it. It was just disregarded. Bridgeport, if there ever is a fire in our building, you know who is responsible! I have owned many homes and condos over the years and this is the worst management company yet. I have talked Karla, our property manager once and communicated with her via email (which I have NEVER received ONE response back to - clearly just ignoring my emails). The one time I did talk to her, it was clear that she was the most confrontational and rude person I have spoken to. In my younger days, I would have just backed down, but I did not. I don't ever lose my cool, but I told her that I did not appreciate her tone or her accusations. Now reading AF's review, it's clear. no wonder staff at Bridgeport seems to be "scared" of the property manager and unhappy to be working there. It seems surprising to me that Karla could be the manager, but she still hasn't changed, and she is still the property manager. It really is unfortunate. We are doomed! If things change, I will make sure to update this yelp review but I highly doubt it as even when I told her over the phone that she was rude, she never apologized. There's no way to contact them after 5pm or weekends. They don't deal with phone call verbal request. They want me to "FAX" them. They want me to get on to their website which is totally not functionable because when I write the request form. The email didn't match the previous email I left 12 years ago. As a board member we interviewed 4 companies and selected Bridgeport to manage our 188 SFD unit and could not be happier with our decision. Since they took the reins. We have saved $13000 in managements fees and thank to their competitive bidding practices another $12000 a year in maintenance. Bill the manager personally walks the property twice a month and has solved many of the problems that have plagued the property. I strong recommend his firm. Their website sucks and basically non functional. They don't allow us to email them. Calls are not picked up. I do like our maintenance person Ricardo, he does a good job and is always friendly and helpful. Bridgeport Management manages Old Town Square a beautiful Condominium Complex in Downtown Oakland. The complex is very well maintained and kept spotless. The courtyard has beautiful trees and is also well-maintained. My only criticism is that they don't communicate via email nor do they have a website or web portal where information could be shared and maintained. Communication is all by phone with a requirement that confirmation of any request be sent via email. This is very inconvenient and increasingly outmoded as fewer people bother with faxes because of the ease and efficiency of email. When Bridgeport starts using the web, I'll come back and give them 5 stars! read more

They are completely worthless. Tried to reach our representative Brian P. multiple times. ( The receptionist is always rude as well.) He was never there, and they said he would call me back. He never did. After 4 tries, I was transferred to an assistant who I told them my issue. She did call back but said it wasn't their problem with no explanation as, based on the information I had describing owner/HOA responsibility it was. If they could explain why it wasn't, I would accept that but the "because I said so approach" does not work for a $800k investment. Our prior experiences have been just as bad. It took them over a year to be repaid for a HOA sponsored event we helped set up. It was only a few hundred dollars, but it took multiple inquires for them to acknowledge us and many months more to be paid back. Don't let you HOA council stick you with such a horrible company. read more

I give them 2 stars for the building being maintained very well, but I think the cleaning company was hired before Bridgeport came on board. I live over at Market Square, in downtown Oakland and I agree with the other reviewers, get on the web people! And I've had to call about a variety of things over the years, but today was especially special... I asked a simple question and the lady who answered didn't know, but went to ask our property manager and then promptly told me to check my Rules & Regulations, okay fair enough - I was being lazy, but still, they should know. Then when I just asked if she didn't happen to know off the top of her head, she told me that she didn't want to bother the property manager, as she was busy with something else. I apologized for bothering them, as a JOKE, and she just said, Oh, that's okay.... Really!?! We're your customers, try and have some respect. Overall, they seem lazy and try to avoid talking to any of the tenants at all costs. If you're looking for a new management company for your condo, skip Bridgeport! read more

Bridgeport is a joke! They refuse to enter the 20th century let alone the 21rst! They rely on snail mail and fax. Email has been around over for decades and is standard practice for businesses. I find this fishy! It costs much more for the owners to pay for vast mailings for the slightest little thing than it would for them to send an email. They simply do not want ease of communication between owners, tenants and their management property. They also have an antiquated payment system. I totally agree with all the 1-star reviews here - Bridgeport is about doing the minimum and does not want to make it easy for people to get service. On August 17, 2015 they launched "version 2.0" of their HOA website as they "continually strives to enhance the services we provide to our customers." It is better but still laughable - it has finally caught up to the web standards of the previous decade. Its "enhanced digital communication" is nothing more than a bare bones file uploader. Then there is the Board Meeting minutes. Board meetings are scheduled in a way so that most of us can't attend because of work. You can go to the HOA website to read the meeting minutes except that they haven't been updated in years. I called to complain back in 2014 and was given some defensive excuse. Over a year later, it still hasn't been updated and today now shows a 404 error. I found out that they incorrectly charged me for late fees twice related to the payment of monthly HOA dues. They removed both late fees when I called about them. However, what is appalling is that I would have never known about these late fees had I not ordered a replacement garage door key FOB which I received with a statement. Bridgeport stopped mailing statements a while ago though usually when a company does this in the name of going green, they offer soft copies via e-mail or their website. Not so with Bridgeport - no statements period unless you happen to order something. How is one expected to pay a late fee (or dispute it) if you don't know about it? When I expressed my concern, the woman was defensive saying that "there are thousands of you". She went on to say that you'd eventually find out about it when you sold your home. So its very possible that you could find a ton of incorrect late fees assessed over years that you'd be surprised to find when selling your unit. They really should find ways to properly service the thousands of us that they collect exorbitant fees from - like hire more staff or perhaps modernize their systems!?! read more

During a recent move from Oakland,having dealt with a number of Homeowners Association Management Companies over the years, I can certainly say that the Bridgeport Company was the easiet, friendliest and most helpful company I could have asked for. Rosa was absolutely terrific at walking us through the entire process and through all of the necessary paperwork. The onsite staff had everything ready for us on the day of our move. Whenever you move an entire home, it is stressful enough. I just wanted to thank the folks at Bridgeport for making it that much easier a process for us than any other community I have lived in! I had one of the best experiences with the Bridgeport HOA and Chris Candy as the property manager. As a Realtor, I have to call many management companies who represent Home Owners associations to ensure accuracy of the information I post to the Multiple Listing Service which goes out to all agents and buyers. Many management company's representing the home owners associations are rude and unwilling to assist with any questions unless you have the owner contact them. Even then, it's difficult to get any info out of the management company and they want to always refer you to HOA docs which will need to be paid for and may take up to 10 days to receive. I had the opposite experience with The Bridgeport Company and Chris Candy. Once Chris verified I was the agent for the seller, he spent close to an hour assisting me with any information I needed regarding the property that was for sale. This is the kind of service that is needed and it prevents future problems and misunderstandings and allows me to advertise correct information to potential buyers and agents. I highly recommend The Bridgeport Company as a management company and hope I see their name again! read more

Our property looks terrible - and they don't care. We get ONE VISIT PER MONTH from our "manager" (who doesn't even have a CCAM certification. Our landscape is a mess, things don't get fixed unless you call multiple times, their refusal to use technology of any sort (except a FAX) is a ruse - they don't want easy trails to follow in lawsuits. We haven't had a managers visit in months - the damage due to neglect to our complex is running into the hundreds of thousands - preventative maintenance is, for them, something that should never be done. 100% reactionary. They are hired by developers to protect the developers from lawsuits. They work for the developer, not the HOA, until the HOA wises up and fires them for incompetence. have been dealing with Bridgeport Company for 5 years. I am a homeowner and Board member of Villagio Bitonti (Santa Clara). Although Bridgeport has had some turnover, they have always made our small (15 unit) complex feel important and tend to our every need. I have to admit, I do not use our portal (that our complex has set up with them), but I do email our account rep directly and he is very responsive and communicative to all our needs as all the reps have been along the way. They are very professional and responsive. As a homeowner/Board member I do fee that it is our responsibility to let Bridgeport now if there are issues that need to be taken care of as they are not onsite and do not know what is going on except at Board meetings, that no one but the Board attends anyway. I feel you need to be inactive with the HOA company in order to have the best experience, no matter which HOA company it is and Bridgeport is top notch.
