    Falafel pita
    Melissa C.

I learned of The Brooklyn Café through an article online, and I'm so happy I did! Today, I stopped there and had the best falafel pita ever! I didn't arrive until a couple of hours before they closed, so they were out of challah bread. I'm excited to go back for bagels, challah, and, of course, another falafel pita!

What a delight! Authentic Jewish style bagels right here on the seacoast! I got an everything bagel with egg salad, and my partner got double smoked lox on a poppy bagel. Both were delicious. They also had several delicious baked goods that we will come back for - potato knish, rugelach, and chocolate babka! There was a sign that says the café goes to support the community, which I thought was great.

    Cinnamon babka. Deeeelish!

The whitefish was lovely, and my bagel was the best GF bagel I can recall having had.

We waited a few minutes to go in- the crew was friendly we got seated and waited on immediately, there was a family sat next to us that was extremely obnoxious and complained about the crisp of the hash brown several times, to their waitress, and the waitress handled it better than I ever would have lol. Aside from the obnoxious people that surrounded us, the ambiance was wonderful. It was giving clean, good music not too loud, friendly staff, we got checked on the perfect amount of times. diner vibes but also somewhat modern- we got our food within 10 minutes of ordering which was pretty impressive. I ordered the drop biscuit and sausage gravy, my sides being 2 poached eggs and I opted for house potatoes instead of the hashbrowns because unlike other folks, I'm aware that diner style hashbrowns can some times not be very crisp. I'm from the south originally and am a biscuit and gravy lover but have struggled to find a really GOOD biscuit & gravy in New England (I now live in Maine). And this was the main reason I wanted to try this place. They were really good! A "drop biscuit" IS different than a regular buttermilk style biscuit and I had never had them before in this context, but while it WAS different than what I was hoping for, it was delicious! Basically if you're expecting traditional biscuits and gravy, this isn't it BUT it is probably the closest I've had to that in New England and definitely worth trying if you're debating. The house potatoes were delicious and perfectly seasoned, and the poached egg was perfectly cooked! Zero complaints. Good prices too. My boyfriend and I got an app of maple bourbon bacon to share, it was good but the price of that was a little high to me. He enjoyed everything he ordered as well! 9.5/10 would recommend! Would gladly go back and hope to in the future!

I absolutely love their drinks with marshmallow fluff in them - the fluff melts into the drink and makes the whole thing so delicious. The cafe is in two parts - when you enter, there is a counter to order at and various store items available for purchase. After ordering and receiving your drink, you can go through a narrow hallway to a larger seating area. There is a good amount of seating, but it can sometimes get busy. I have worked from this cafe before and I'd say it may be better to work alone than work with friends if you're going here since some of the tables are a little small and will be tight with two laptops. Service is very quick and the workers are very friendly. The drink pickup can be a little awkward since you pickup where you ordered and sometimes there's a line of people you have to sort of go through but I've never found it to be too much of a problem.

And the service was a Knockout! The vibe was definitely reminiscent of going to have coffee in Istanbul. Every last drip of espresso was well worth the walk. The baristas were very friendly, welcoming, and were very attentive and were prepared to answer whatever questions you might have at a moment's notice. The merch was really cute, the turkish delights were reasonably priced, and there was plenty of culture to go around. I am definitely going to be coming back here whenever I am in town again from Los Angeles. Thank you!

The delightful scent of coffee was in the air and the staff were absolutely friendly as you approached the counter. Despite a buzz of patrons trickling in and ordering, the coffee was delivered to the table shortly after I sat. The staff obviously had a strong momentum going as I watched other tables being served just as quickly. Before I could even really start sipping on my piping hot Cafe Au Lait, I was served my salad and crepe. It was fun to watch how each person worked their station passionately. The lady preparing the crepes meticulously cleaned her station as she cooked. The staff on coffee were brewing away and sending cups out to diners. Other items were coming out from the back kitchen. They worked in unison like a well oiled machine. I definitely enjoyed my coffee. My salad was generous and hit the spot. The crepe was acceptable. Would I come back? Yeah, definitely my type of breakfast spot when visiting Portsmouth again. I definitely will try their croissants next time as well as check out their wine bar in the evenings!
