Bagel Caboose is one of the worst bagel / coffee shops in the entire country. This wasn't a "bad day" but an absolute lack of care. We ordered 4 bagels with various spreads to go. One had Nutella and somehow the bagel was covered on all sides. One had a maple walnut spread that saturated the entire wrap, and then dripped all over my shirt and pants. My wife ordered a bagel with butter (see photo). And the other one we just threw away. Staff was indifferent. Seemed disconnected. Under normal circumstances, I'd let it go and chalk it up to "they weren't at their best." But this was so bad that it doesn't happen by accident. Either they're grossly incompetent or they're trying to be bad. Only go if you're starving, have gloves, a poncho, the ability to shower ... and yeah, only if you're starving. The Canadian Tuxedo on the French toast bagel with syrup on the side and The Gold Rush on the poppyseed bagel. We stopped here on a whim last year on our way home to Northwest Ohio from Bar Harbor. So we stopped on our way back to Bar Harbor this year. This place is amazing the bagels are fresh the staff is outstanding. We will definitely stop on our way back home again. Bagels seemed to be store bought as I've never seen a bagel shop put bagels for sale in plastic bags. On top of that, they were soft and chewy. No hard outer crust like a proper New York (or Baltimore) bagel has. If they are making them on-site, they are probably just baking them rather than boiling them for 30 seconds and then baking them. read more

Recommended for convenience, friendliness of staff and fair price. The bagels hit the spot and we're well prepared. I had the lox, as I often do, and found the ratio of ingredients to be perfect. The bagels are decent. They are big. They miss the chewiness of a good NY bagel, but work just fine. The kids couldn't finish theirs, so I had a couple other samples. Everything w/ cream cheese and plain w/ bacon egg and cheese. Both were tasty. Coffee was good too. I shoulda tried the steak bagel. Maybe next time in Maine I'll do it! read more

Not a good day. It was busy as usual when we arrived, but after 5 minutes we placed our breakfast order. We managed to snag a table and sat down as we waited for our order to be ready. We lost track of time as we conversed so about 20 minutes later I went up to ask about our order. Somehow we hadn't heard our name and someone had walked off with our order. They apologize and made us a new set of sandwiches but in the end I was given the wrong sandwich. I'd suggested redoing how orders are served then just calling out a name and walking away from the counter, especially when the place is crowd and busy. read more

We stopped here for bagels while on vacation. My girlfriend got the jalapeño/cheddar bagel with Boursin cheese. My son got the cinnamon/raisin bagel with cinnamon/raisin cream cheese. I got the jalapeño/cheddar bagel with bacon/scallion cream cheese. We all loved what we ordered. I was really impressed that I could taste the jalapeño and cheddar in my bagel. I'm usually an everything bagel absolutist, but they were out of those. Glad I tried something different. The bacon/scallion cream cheese was a perfect match. Savory, smoky, and cheesy with a hint of sweetness from the scallions. They also loaded the bagel with it! Not sure why this place only has 3 stars. Also baffled by folks complaining about price. This was an inexpensive and delicious breakfast that I didn't have to make. I love bagels and I often make my own cream cheese blends at home. It's a lot of work and prep. I think it's easy for a lot of people on Yelp to complain and nit-pick things because they don't cook and don't understand the time investment in preparing food. The Bagel Caboose is a fantastic local asset. I know if I lived here, I would frequent this spot weekly. We'll also certainly stop in again the next time we're in Kittery. read more

One of the best places around for vegan friendly bagel options. They have three types of vegan cream cheese daily, plain, veggie and cinnamon raisin. They also have dairy free milks too. Just wish they had a bigger seating area. Otherwise it's delicious and fairly priced. read more

I don't know why these last few reviews have been so bad. I come in here several times a year & each time I come in, I have had nothing but friendly service and decent bagels. The bagels may be a little pricey but it's the Seacoast it's to be expected. 2 bagels w/cream cheese ran me about $6.50. Bagel Caboose is small but can hold exactly 14 people (yes i counted the chairs) plus a toddler seat. This place is convenient as it's just off the Kittery rotary. I will also say that this place has the best homemade cream cheese I've ever had especially with anything with blueberry--Maine is known to be the blueberry state after all. And they play good music here too. Can't ask for anything more from a good local establishment. read more

Drove through Kittery, yesterday morning and found this charming old Caboose turned bagel shop. The place was packed. Counter style service, they were friendly and didn't rush you even though they were busy. Tons of creative breakfast sandwiches to choose from or build you own. Bagels, croissants and English muffins to choose from. It was a welcomed break for a weary traveler. Food came quickly after ordering and was total yummsters!! This is usually my go to place for a nice breakfast sandwich. The counter workers are usually nice and friendly. I mistakenly walked in without having my mask on and one of the counter girls, instead of greeting me and calmly addressing the issue, screamed at me "WHERE'S YOUR MASK". I do not appreciate getting yelled at from strangers, especially over something that could be easily solved. It was an honest mistake that could happen to anybody. In any case, I didn't try to walk in demanding to be served, without having a mask on. It was extremely embarrassing to be scolded like a child in-front of other patrons in the restaurant. I understand that these times are extremely stressful, but I will not tolerate getting screamed at, by any person, employee or not. read more

CUTE bagel coffee stop! Due to COVID rest areas don't have a lot of options open. I went on Waze app to look up coffee spots. We were initially headed to another chain restaurant drive through off the route when we saw this spot that looked very active (next door to a Dairy Queen that didn't look open). Lots of choices for breakfast bagel sandwiches and a variety of coffee. I ordered 2 toasted, everything bagels one with veggie cream cheese and the other with bacon scallion cream cheese with the Breakfast Bun Coffee. Coffee tasted fresh and was hot. I was told it's their breakfast blend and doesn't actually taste like a breakfast bun. The coffee had a floral finish (I prefer a nutty cocoa finish myself). Bagel tasted fresh, soft and was warm. Cream cheese was good but not thick and piled on. Melts easily so you can ask for an extra serving of cream cheese if that's your preference. Menu has a lot going on and a lot of options and found it a little overwhelming to take it all in especially if it's your first time and your just passing through. They've got a good sized outdoor deck where you can eat. I have it 5 stars because it's a cute niche place, fun name and overall tasty options; not far off 95 and staff are friendly! read more

Nice little coffee shop inside a caboose! I stopped here on my way into Kittery, ME for a work trip. They serve New England coffee which is not my favorite, but an ok choice for cup in a pinch. I do have to say they have a pretty good amount of flavor selections, so you aren't just stuck with a house roast if you want more. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a onion bagel - definitely a good choice, the sandwich was made neatly so the inside weren't spilling out everywhere when I unwrapped it, a definite plus. No time for sloppy sandwiches, folks. Especially when I've yet to have coffee! Don't expect anything out of the ordinary, but if you want a regular cup of joe and breakfast sandwich, stop in. read more
