Not sure it is worth it. They do have a large selection of food, but food was only so so. The workers behind the food at the buffet are quite ignorant and few people spoke English and could not answer questions especially the desserts. Some big annoyances No melted butter at the buffet, need to ask the servers to bring it, makes zero sense and food will get cold while getting the waiters attention and time to bring the butter out. it should be ON the buffet or at least get it at the lobster area. Received a call Tuesday from Valley View Casino & Hotel's social media coordinator in response to my unsatisfactory 8/20/2013 review. I reiterated my primary concern (and that of my colleagues, friends and family who have frequented The Buffet w/me) being the significant decline we had seen in quality (of both the food and it's preparation) over the past 6 years. She was very cordial and polite, telling me repeatedly 'how much my patronage since 2007 was appreciated' and how much 'the opinion of a customer like me is valued'. Yet, her reply with respect to our complaints was primarily a repackaged version of that we'd received from the Chef who we'd spoken with prior as he roamed the dining room. When we'd asked the Chef about the obster being significantly smaller, tough and tasteless, we were told that while they had indeed changed the size of the lobster to much smaller ones, the quality was supposed to be the same. She (the social media person) also gave another excuse about the lobster issue being due to 'seasonal availability'. I did not feel this was valid, since most lobster (like that served in quantity at establishments like this) is almost all farm raised in environmentally controlled tanks meant in part to alleviate seasonal availability challenges. She did have responses about the lessor variety at The Buffet being due to their now having theme weeks and rotating menus, instead of having everything available at each buffet. She also said lack of fresh berries we noticed on our recent visit was due to 'availability' - something that strikes me as strange given I can still buy beautiful, fresh blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and raspberries down the street at our local grocers. She had no response about our complaint of reduced quality and poor preparation of the meats at the carving station, nor with regard to the now unpalatable side dishes and deserts. We ended the conversation with her asking me whether I would like to speak with the head of Food and Beverage. I replied that I would be more than happy to, if it would have any value toward improving the situation as we would prefer eating there, rather than travelling to Harrah's Rincon Casino & Resort or Pala Casino Spa and Resort. In summary, I do not yet feel my concerns have really been heard and considered by someone with the power to effect change. And because of that, I do not yet feel at this point feel there will be any tangible resolution/improvement. But, I will remain hopeful because with the pervasive lack of eating/entertainment establishments in the immediate area, there is nothing more I would rather do than again be able to sing the praises of The Buffet at Valley View Casino... read more

If you like seafood, especially lobster and crab legs this is the place to splurge! I like the fact that they cut the crab legs in half so you don't have to get your hands all messy! I enjoy their shrimp cocktail as well. If they has kimchi in the selection that would be even better, but I'm not complaining. Their baked salmon served with quinoa is moist and tasty. Sushi station is mediocre but the array of dessert is good! FYI, This is the only casino that caters to adults only, no children allowed. lobster buffet... regular price is $32.99 but if you sign up for the player's card, you get to eat the buffet for free. the lobster is all you can eat but you can only get one lobster at a time. you can always come back for some more. yes, it can be pretty inconvenient to keep going back for more lobster, but its worth it. they also have sushi, chinese food, mexican, and tri-tip. the sushi is not so good and the fish is very thinly sliced and small. the chinese food are mostly fried which isnt so bad but make you full quickly. the dessert selection is pretty good. my favorite is the flan and tiramisu custard. the creme brulee is too thick and the other cakes taste so artificial. they have macaroon too and ice cream. definitely plenty of things to satisfy your sweet tooth. read more

I've been here 3 times and the recent visit was a disappointment. The food quality pretty much went down hill. Sushi and lobsters weren't fresh. Not a lot of option available either. Brunch is cheaper but they don't have crab legs or shrimps. So come during brunch time on the weekend around 1pm so you can sit through both brunch and dinner. We had a group of nine. It was Saturday morning at 10:45 am they just opened at 10:30. There was no waiting and were not busy. We asked if we could get our party seated together cause it was a surprised party and we all wanted to be seated and surprise birthday girl. They said NO that everyone needed to be there before seating. So the manager came out and said sorry but that's the rules. Needless to say we were not happy and decided to jump in the car and go to Harrah's just down the street. They were very accommodating and at Harrahs we got 1st class service and we all got to be seated together! Would NOT recommend valley view with a large groups. read more

This review is just for the buffet. This is one of the best casino buffets in San Diego and holds it's own with some of the Vegas ones I've been to. The featured item here is the lobster tail. Although it's delicious they are very skimpy on the portions. You only get one per serving and can't grab your own like you could do with crab legs. The other items range from typically buffet style options but taste very fresh. We paid about 33 per person which is reasonable. I believe they discontinued the free lobster buffet offer for new player club members. They also have a great selection of deserts to choose from. I love this buffet. You can get a free buffet the first time you go to the casino, but get there before 4pm on a weekend if you want to get in on your first trip (otherwise they give you $ to play with) The food is fantastic. The lobster is from the East Coast and the crab legs, meats, pastas, coconut shrimp and everything else taste great as well. The desserts are also great (creme brulee, cheese cake, fresh fruit, fudge, chocolate fondu etc.) Just as a side note, they have changed the butter to being table service now so don't waste your time looking for it, like I did :) read more

This is the best buffet I've found in San Diego! I visited on Saturday for lunch and it was $32.99. They have lower prices for lunch Monday through Thursday. The place is really nice and clean. The staff is nice and they come by to clear off the table pretty often. If you've never been, you are most likely interested to know about these two main points (as I was just prior to my first visit this past Labor Day weekend)- so here's the real dope: 1. How's the lobster? Pretty darn good. Surprising in a way. Quality was pretty fair, seemed to be decently fresh - nothing mushy. The size is a non-factor. You get plenty of meat from each tail and (at least on this day) they are full tails, not half as I had read in some reviews. They are large and satisfying enough that I was fine with getting one per plate. Now of course having claws as they apparently used to would be nice. But I'm not upset about having the whole creature-- beside the tail and claws is there anything worth eating on a lobster? Overall, I found little regarding the lobster to complain about. I wasn't sure until I ate here, but The Buffet delivers on this basic but important premise: you can eat as much lobster as you'd like even to the point of getting sick of them if you choose to. 2. The line situation. It's not that bad. If we were able to manage on a holiday weekend I don't think you'd have a problem so long as you get here a bit before you'd like to eat. It basically operates on a system where you get a ticket that allows you to line up at a certain time. You risk a 'sold out' buffet by arriving too late. Everything else I ate was pretty decent too. The ice cream is solid as well. And of course it was free this first time. But I would gladly pay normal price ($33 or so) to return. In fact I'm planning to. I took my wife and family there for her Birthday. We were there for the $25.00 Maine Lobster Buffet. We have players cards had them for years. My grandson and his girlfriend both got cards before we went to dinner. Stood in a very long line to get in, about 30 minutes. Of course the VIP line moved much faster. There were 4 of us. When we got to the cashier, she asked for our players card. My wife handed hers to her, and she said our meal was $131.96. I asked why not $100.00? She replied "we didn't qualify". Apparently you have to play a certain number of times, to qualify for the $25.00 buffet. It doesn't say that anywhere. The giant sign outside, everything everywhere says $25.00. So they charged us 31% more! We paid, and when we got to the front of the line, there were dozens of empty tables, no need for the line. Food was OK, nothing special. We'll not be back. read more

I love lobster and my husband loves crab so we wanted to try The Buffet out together. We went on a Friday night and the line was pretty long which we expected. Once you get into the restaurant the air filtering system is awesome and you can't smell the cigarettes the way you do in line.. I felt like I was chain smoking. It's really hard for me to breathe in the cigarette smoke but again that's my fault for coming on a Friday night. Service was great! We never had an empty cup or plates our table for very long. Overall, the food was awesome and we left fully satisfied(a little too full haha). We will be back but definitely on a weeknight. read more

If you come here to eat buffet you might as well get a room and stay the night. For about $90+tax you can get a room with access to the pool and breakfast in the morning. I come here pretty often with my parents. They like to play and I like to eat so it works out. This in one of my favorite casino buffets due to the amount of seafood they offer. The lobster tail is the star of the show, but in addition to that they also have oyster, sushi, and crab legs. I always get a couple of lobster tails and they're pretty good. Not super high quality, but they are tasty for sure. I've seen the many evolutions of how they serve their lobster tail - it used to be one full tail dipped in butter (unless you don't like butter). Now, they serve the tail in two pieces and you have to ask your server to bring butter at your table. I gotta say I'm not a fan of the "two pieces" thing bc the quality has decreased. Last time I came, one piece would be great and easy to de-meat from the shell, but the other piece would be well done. I think they might have made the change so they can cook faster, but the quality and consistency has suffered with this change. I am not as keen on the lobster tail as before. My cholesterol level can thank me later. Still, there's plenty more to eat. The sushi here is pretty authentic but I try not to eat too much since rice can fill me up quickly. The crab legs, however, are on the more salty side. I prefer Sycuan's crab legs. These definitely aren't as meaty - they're pretty meager - but at least they are served already cut in half. I don't usually eat oyster but my parents seem to like it here, so I take that as a good sign. I also enjoy the pastas, coconut shrimp, and meat carving station. I always make sure to leave room for dessert. Their desserts are constantly rotating but there are lots of mainstays as well. Just to name a few - there's creme brûlée, mini crepes, bananas foster, cakes, pies, sugar-free desserts, fudge pieces, fruit, and a chocolate fountain. Yeah. I feel very guilty after raiding the dessert station but I'll just blame it on my sweet tooth. I usually also get a scoop of ice cream on a cone on my way out. The quality of the food is quite good here and you're bound to find something that tickles your fancy. Despite the change in the lobster tail, I would still return. read more

Valley View has an AMAZING buffet, no doubt about it! Been here twice and enjoyed it BIG TIME on both occasions. The entrees are not your run of the mill mass produced dishes, as compared to other buffets. Most buffets seem to marginalize the foods, by means of the reduction in spices and flavors, to cater to the masses; but Valley View's have some seriously tasty items. And they seem to keep everything rotating quickly enough to maintain the freshness. I was not disappointed in any of the dishes I gluttonously consumed! My only complaint regarding the food may be that a couple batches of the lobster tails seemed overcooked, but others were perfect and plentiful, when you could prevent some inconsiderate pig from throwing ten at a time on their plate. You can spot those people to - they hover off to the side with plate in hand and vector in just as the worker approaches. Felt like knocking one guy out after witnessing him do it more than once. And of course he ignored me when I loudly fronted him off that second time. COME ON MAN! There are plenty for everyone, including for you to just get up off your fat ass a few more times, unless you hoard them all to yourself! Most everyone comes on the weekend nights for the same thing! Maybe they should post a security guard in there to intercept the lobster hogs. Yes, the wait in line can be long - but it is well worth it. Yeah, there's all you can eat lobster. Sounds great in theory, but doesn't really work out in practice. 3 types of lobster, stuffed, steamed, and some other way that I didn't get to try because they ran out. The stuffed wasn't good, the steamed was okay. Best options were the ribs, along with some chicken dishes and the crab legs. Big plus: they slice the crab legs the long way, no need to crack and prod the meat out. Clam chowder really stole the show, too. Worst options was prime rib. Amazing ice cream for dessert. At $32 per person, and a ridiculous wait (my wait was north of 1 hour), I'd say that it's not worth it. read more

The prime rib, the lobster, the cole slow, the desserts, the ribs. Everything is good, if not great and for a free buffet how could you really complain? The staff is excellent, but I was disappointed by the buffet as was my dining partner. I am certain it is very difficult to make great food in massive quantities and of huge variety, but personally I would rather have a smaller selection of better items. There was a long wait, even on a Tuesday afternoon. I have no complaint about this as they did a great job seating and serving a huge amount of people, but just something to be aware of if you are in a hurry or starving. On to the main attraction, the lobster. Mine was fairly tough and very hard to get out of the shell, over-cooked in my opinion. It was certainly not the texture and flavor of good Maine lobster. Moving on, the shrimp were watery and soft with very little flavor. However, on the positive side the crab legs were quite good. Most of the vegetables were under-cooked. I actually liked the asparagus that way, which was crunchy and flavorful. But the sweet potato cubes were also under-cooked and hard, which was not so good. At the end of the meal, I had to try the pecan pie, which is a favorite of mine. The pecan pie was ok but nothing special, probably below average. In my opinion this buffet is quantity over quality. Buy hey, that might be your thing. As I said the staff is great and I know they will comment on here to make it right, but I think I will pass on the buffet next time. One other comment that has nothing to do with the buffet or this rating. They should have changed it to a discount on the buffet to avoid people, who are not gambling at all. But this weird system now - we will avoid it! 4.5 stars for the buffet. I actually like this place. We come here quite often with my bf's parents. They get free buffets for 4 a month which is awesome. There's usually a long line but for VIP it goes quick. This is probably my favorite casino buffet so far in San Diego. They have lobster tails and is served to you one at a time. They have a variety of fresh seafood like crab legs, oysters, shrimp and mussells. They also have Japanese and Chinese cuisines, soups stations, salad, and a variety of dessert to choose from. The workers are always refilling each dish and keeping the dessert section full! The service is amazing. Our server was very efficient. She made sure she got rid of all dishes and provided new plates for our shells, trash, etc. Everytime I asked for something she immediately brought them to our table. Love coming here! read more

We came on a Sunday (today, 12.29.13) and, boy were we lucky! The brunch buffet is normally $32.99, so we lucked out for sure! We went in around noon time. Brunch was still being served. There was an omelet station, breakfast station, and then their other stations (meat, Asian, Italian, Southern, etc.). And because we came on a Sunday, lobster tails were served all day. Definitely a plus! It's not a huge buffet, like everyone is used to when they go to casinos, but the flavor and quality of the food was pretty darn good. The lobster tails were small, but they were very sweet. I really enjoyed their coconut fried shrimp, mashed potatoes, asparagus, sauteed squash, friend chicken, teriyaki chicken wings, and potato bacon soup. But what I enjoyed the most was their dessert!! I probably have one of the biggest sweet tooth known to mankind, so this was kind of my Heaven. Almost everything I had was really tasty, but their macarons were to die for! Oh man, just thinking about them makes my mouth water. They had two flavors when I went, chocolate with chocolate ganache and vanilla with dulce de leche cream filling. They were done to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised. This buffet rivals The Wynn in Vegas... and it is free! The entry process is inefficient, resulting in longer than necessary lines. That is really the only knock. Ohh, and you only get one lobster at a time. Otherwise, the food was outstanding. Lobster tails are small pacific tails, expected, and the crab legs were good but not exceptional. I was actually shocked at how much u actually enjoyed this buffet. In general, I hate buffets, but my fiancée LOVES them, so I do my best to compromise. We went for the lobster, but my favorite was the freshly made sushi station. They even had a few tykes of basic hand rolls. The sky sauce was super salty, but I made it work.
