I had heard great things about the Bungalow Restaurant, so I rang them up a month in advance to book our special New Year's night out. We arrived and discovered there are a lot of stairs into the upper parts of the restaurant. We have a handicapped person in our family, and this surprise made it very hard for us. There was no way to stop your car and let someone out in the front since it is the Coast Highway. This place is not ADA friendly. Plan it out carefully if you come. The staff was nice and found us a table in the lower sections of the three level restaurant. The table are right next to each other, so it was very hard to get to our table. Everything seemed to go well when we finally sat down. We ordered Calamari, chicken, short ribs and sea bass. We really enjoyed the food, but the service was not up to the standard of the price we paid for our meal. I had to ask for water, bread, butter, champagne (part of the New Year's package) and napkins. I had to ask for the name of our server and asked her "How she was doing?" There was no friendliness there. She just seemed stuck on doing her job and moving on. This one young lady took care of nine to ten tables in our room of the restaurant. At the Capital Grille, there might be three or four servers for the same amount of tables. The Bungalow had one. I know she was trying, but it was too much for one person. I had to ask for the dessert menu. She was not rude but our expectations are high paying these prices. The worst part of our night was trying to figure out what was special about the night to the point where we had to pay up to ten dollars more for each item on a limited menu? Why are we paying more for New Year's? Was there any reason? On the up to date website menu Calamari is $22, but we paid $29 for New Years. Chicken is $41 but we paid $49. The biggest spike in price is the Sea Bass, the normal price is $56 but we paid $66. This is strange and unfair. There was no live music, no free champagne (we did get one glass at 9:00. p.m.) no extra special treatment or food item. We felt taken advantage of for coming on New Years. The Bungalow is not a place I recommend for their lack of friendly service and price; however, the food is quite good. read more

Bungalow CDM - Date Night Done Right Post-Christmas party and not quite ready to go home (aka still festive and hydrated-adjacent), we popped into Bungalow CDM for just one drink... which, as usual, turned into a moment. I started with El Diablo which was spicy, bold, and confident, much like the vibe. Followed it up with a Paloma, because balance is important. My handsome companion went full DD with the Berry Ginger, which was festive, smooth, and way more refined than his outfit. Feeling a little peckish (dangerous words), we ordered the calamari: crispy, addictive, disappeared immediately and shared the beef sandwich, which was rich, satisfying, and absolutely the right decision. Bungalow CDM is perfect for that spontaneous, "one drink before home" date that turns into laughs, snacks, and people watching . Cute date spot, or nice dinner out. This month happened to be lobster-fest where there was practically lobster everything and lobster tails FREE with some steaks. Aesthetic & Ambience: 8/10 it was nicer upscale interior but nothing notable. There was bar seating and an outdoor / downstairs area. The ambience was a bit louder since it was busy evening, but it was nicer otherwise. Service: 10/10 Derrick was our service and he was quick, friendly and attentive. He paced out the courses perfectly, and provided a bunch of recommendations. Pineapple Express drink: 8/10 good and pineapple full, but very spirit forward. Passion flower drink: 8/10 bit on the sweeter side, but a good drink and just like a martini; also spirit forward. Bread & butter: 8/10 bread was good but a little generic, but the butter being a garlic butter really took it home. Sweet chili calamari: 9/10 really good, with a light sweet taste, but not sugary over overly sweet. The breading was also light without the heavy oil. Lobster bisque: 4.5/10 light hints of lobster, it was super buttery and creamy, but no actual meat, or deep flavor. Filet Mignon: 8.5/10 ordered medium rare it was cooked well, and came out tender and juicy; also can't complain about a free 3oz lobster tail. I came here for dinner on New Years Eve. The first thing I noticed is that the restaurant is not ADA friendly. There are only 1 handicapped parking spot in the valet parking lot in the back. If you are handicapped, you must either walk all the way around the restaurant or walk up stairs. Food: For appetizer, we ordered calamari. It tasted very delicious especially the sauce that it was cooked in. For a dish I ordered the Chilean Seabass. It was very flavorful. I really liked the coconut rice and beurre blanc sauce. I would have liked more sauce though. Their mashed potatoes also taste good. I was disappointed that the New Years Eve menu was limited. Some dishes such as the pork chop and lobster pasta dish weren't on the menu. Also, the prices of dishes were increased from the regular menu. The seabass normally costs $56, but costed $66 on the New Years menu. Service: The service was average. The servers were trying their best to serve everyone. However, they weren't very friendly. My recent visit to The Bungalow CDM presented a mix of delightful service and an unfortunate incident that ensures it will be both my first and last time dining there, despite living less than two miles away in Newport Beach for over 20 years! Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by my waitress, Ashley, who was truly wonderful throughout my meal. She was attentive and proactive; when I mentioned what I was considering ordering, she quickly checked and informed me about a summer special, allowing me to enjoy a more advantageous price than ordering à la carte. Initially, I planned to sit inside, but the lobby area was quite loud due to conversations. Given the beautiful day, I decided to move to the patio, which was noticeably quieter and more peaceful. I opted for the corn chowder and the Bungalow salad, which features mixed greens, artichoke hearts, and shrimp. The corn chowder was exceptionally good, with a perfect texture and flavor profile, though the portion, as expected, was on the smaller side. When I requested bread or crackers with my chowder, the gentleman who delivered it promptly returned with two hot rolls and garlic butter, which were a fantastic accompaniment. During my meal, I received a FaceTime call from my cousin. Unfortunately, I forgot that my volume might have been too loud. Instead of a staff member addressing the issue, another patron walked by my table, stating loudly that she was leaving because she didn't want to hear my conversation, and mumbled something under her breath as she departed. Shortly after, a man dressed in black, who never introduced himself or identified his role, approached my table. He simply stood there looking at me before aggressively instructing me to turn off my speaker. I explained that I would turn the volume down, but he stated that wasn't sufficient and told me I needed to leave, offering to comp my bill. I declined, as I had only finished my corn chowder and had not yet received my salad. My salad was then brought out. This same individual returned to my table later to drop off salt and pepper but did not speak to me or inquire about my food, despite stopping to chat with other tables nearby. I thanked him, but he did not acknowledge it. While I understand that my call may have been disruptive, I was on the patio, and I would have immediately lowered the volume had a staff member politely informed me of the issue. The unidentified manager's direct and confrontational approach, following the public complaint from another customer, was disappointing and overshadowed an otherwise pleasant dining experience with excellent food and service from Ashley. On a separate note, it's worth mentioning that The Bungalow CDM does not offer any military discounts. Considering the overall experience, this combined with the handling of the incident leaves me with no desire to return. read more

What a fantastic dining experience this evening at The Bungalow in Corona Del Mar. The hostesses were very friendly and professional as was the Valet attendant. We were seated at a lovely booth in the dining room. Derrick was our server extraordinare. What an amazing person, professional and kind. We started with drinks and my wife had her favorite, Don Julio Blanco with Topo Chico and three limes muddled with mint and I had bottled water and a soft drink. We both started with salads and my wife had the Cesar salad and I had the wedge. Both salads were presented well and very tasty. Oscar, another fine individual came by and brought us fresh bread and also attended to our table. We so enjoyed the evening with great conversation and fantastic food. Derrick took our entree order as well and my wife had the seabass entree, butterfield and I had the filet mignon entree with melted blue cheese and a side of sautéed spinach. The meals came out beautifully prepared and presented and the taste of both meals were excellent. I finished with an Americano and some additional conversation and then Kevin, one of the managers, stopped by to thank us for coming in while asking how everything was. The manager, who seemed to have no interest in ensuring a pleasant experience, seated us at the absolute worst table outside, in the corner, it felt like we were being punished for even showing up. As for the food? Let's start with the steak: it was the most flavorless, bland piece of meat I've ever had the misfortune of eating. I wouldn't even call it a steak, it was a sad excuse for one. It was an insult to the holiday. The sides were no better, lukewarm and tasteless. This place ruined what should have been a memorable Christmas Eve. Valet is $8 or you can find street parking in the neighborhood and walk. We got seated outside near the fireplace, it was romantic for date night, but bring a jacket in case you're cold! Our server Sean was so nice and welcoming as it was our first time, he had great recommendations! We started off with cocktails and then ordered our food. We ordered the broiled filet mignon burger which was absolutely amazing! So juicy and rich in flavor. Fries were also perfect. 11/10 meal Sea bass was miso marinated and came with jasmine rice. I have had the Bungalow in CDM bookmarked for several years and finally got the chance to make our way over and check them out a couple of weeks back as a belated birthday dinner for my mom. I had searched and searched for places with a prime rib special, and when I saw the Bungalow, I knew the time was right to check them out. Parking in this area can be a bit tricky but I was able to procure a spot in a lot behind the restaurant and only had to pay a small fee for an hour as the parking becomes free after 6pm which was nice. We had arrived around 20 or so minutes early for our reservations, but they quickly sat us anyway, which I appreciate it, and the restaurant itself has quite an elegant ambiance. My mom went with the prime rib special, which was $50, and included a salad or soup and a dessert along with a 10oz prime rib and baked potato. I went with the New York Strip (menu stated 14oz, seemed smaller), and it was accompanied by horseradish au Gratin potatoes and I upgraded to the peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was a great topper. My wife went with the Chilean Seabass and seemed to really enjoy her dish as well. All of the entrees were great and a definite win, and the service was attentive and friendly throughout. For dessert, we had the New York Cheesecake and the buttercake and not a bite survived from any of us. Overall, this was a great find and I am very happy to have finally made it over and check it off my list. I will definitely be back again for future birthdays or anniversaries. Please note that despite this being a high-end steakhouse style restaurant with a pricey menu, they still opt to charge all customers with a credit card surcharge, which is absolutely ridiculous for a restaurant of this range. I understand small mom and pop places trying to avoid cc charges, but a full-fledged restaurant like this is ridiculous and adds to your already pricey bill. This is the reason I can not give them a 5. I hope they reconsider this ridiculous charge, but seeing as there are so many reviews mentioning it and the defensiveness of the manager who has responded, I don't see that occurring. Just be wary of this fee so you are not caught off guard when it comes time to pay the bill. Wait time gets a one, food and service and the attention from the hostess, a 5. My friend and I had Christmas lunch at The Bungalow yesterday. I've been there in years past, but this was her first time. Our reservation was for 12:30, and we arrived on time. The hostess informed us that our table "wasn't quite ready yet." When we asked about the wait time, she said she would check. She returned and told us, "they just received their entree and a bottle of wine. Kiss that table goodbye." We were offered a seat in the bar which is small and crowded due to people waiting, or on the patio which is adjacent to all the traffic on PCH. We declined that option. Eventually, we were given another table after waiting even longer, which I assume was meant for someone else. This is the second time this has happened this season. Two weeks ago, my friend and I went to Neiman Marcus for lunch and, despite having a reservation, we waited a hour. Why aren't these restaurants enforcing time limits on tables during this busy time of year? read more

We came in here with a reservation for a party of eight on 9/27/25 at 5:00. Shawn was our server and gave great service as always when we have him. Everyone in the party enjoyed their food except for one who did not like his salad. He's a vegetarian who has a handicap, but they were kind enough to take it off the bill. Four people in our party had steak which came with a free lobster tail which was a surprise to everyone except for me since I already knew about it. Shawn gave my mom and two aunts a couple tastes of wine to make sure they liked it before they ordered a glass and they were all happy with the results. My virgin passion flower martini was delicious as was my "just chicken and lettuce" salad. However my uncle who has Parkinson's accidentally spilled his entire martini. Instead of asking if he wanted a new one or had taken it off the bill they did nothing nor acknowledge what happened. Same thing when my aunt told someone that the first toilet in the women's restroom was leaking and that there was water all over the floor. Despite those few things everyone was very happy and satisfied. The GM was also so kind and made sure my cousins burger was better than exceptional which he said it was. As was everyone's steak, oysters, free lobster tails, soups and salads as well as the bread. We were also a bit disappointed that my mom and my favorite server Bobby was not able to serve us, but they told us he got promoted to management which we are so happy to hear the good news for him. Four of us had reservations here at 5:30 PM on a Sunday night. It was quite busy! It has a very cozy atmosphere, a little loud, but not too bad. We were promptly seated in a booth for four people. Rob was our server. He was professional and friendly. It was Restaurant week so we all chose something off that menu which included a starter and entrée for $50. We also wanted to order an appetizer before our restaurant week menu, but found out that was not allowed. It was kind of odd since we're willing to pay full price for the appetizer. We couldn't understand that at all. But it was fine, saved us some calories and money. My brother and his wife both got the filet mignon with potatoes. Alice was happy that they let her switch out the mashed potatoes for the shoestring French fries since those are her favorite! We had never eaten here before. I had the Seabass with broccolini instead of the rice and my husband had the short ribs and mashed potatoes. We've both enjoyed them very much. From the street you can't really tell what it is like inside, but once inside, it has a charm to it. While we waited for our reservation at Sugarfish to be ready, we decided to head on over to The Bungalow Restaurant for an appetizer and drinks. For the appetizer we ordered the Bungalow Prawns. The dish came with five prawns and they were massive. I don't usually like cocktail sauce, but they have a good recipe for theirs. The price of $29 is pretty high, but I understand why. For drinks we ordered espresso martinis which came in a huge martini glass. I am a huge espresso martini fan and I would rate there's a 7/10. The bartenders are very catering and make sure that you are enjoying yourselves. I wish I got their names so I could add them to this review, but cheers. We held a small private event (a post Pacific View memorial gathering) on the back patio and it went better than I had even dreamed. The general manager, Bobby Yowell, worked with us in advance to plan for it - we had a huge charcuterie board, crudites, and even giant chocolate chip cookies! So many of my guests raved over the setting and the food and drinks. The service was impeccable and the staff was beyond accommodating.
