Chaupain is gosh darn bomb with their laminated pastries. My eyes definitely clouded my ordering process. I think I froze when the lady asked if that's all, having one of those moments of being paralyzed by the freedom of choice. With two pastries on the way and two breakfasts, I couldn't justify a quiche as well. It'll just have to be for next time. But seeing all the food floating past to other tables only solidified the excitement one can have after placing an order. From what I could see AND taste, there's no shortage on flavor nor skimping on spinach! That omelette was substantial but half of everything inside was cold. I didn't know how to feel about that at the time but thinking back now it made the omelette not greasy, so even if it is two distinct temperatures it's still so good and cooked right. The shakshouka (sp?) was very hot and incredibly flavorful with the egg still rightfully runny. The only thing that would've made it to die for on the spot is a little more bread or side potaters to soak up that delicious tomato goo. Good coffee and such a wonderful place for people AND food watching.

Chaupain Bakery is a French bakery. It is owned by a husband and wife team. It is a small chain. This is the only one we have been to and it is amazing. Parking is easy and the prices are fair for what you get. This is not just a bakery, they also serve Breakfast and lunch and what we had was great. We went back once. They have great artisan breads, pastries, and even quiches. It is all fresh and all baked there. We first learned about them at the Farmer's Market in Dana Point. We got some bread and a few almond pistachio croissants. We knew we had to find it while in town. The service was so nice and friendly. The place is super clean and there are tables for eating. It is all just so cute and it smells so good. All of the bread and pastries we had were great. But we really loved their breakfast and lunch. We had a baked baguette with the best butter and homemade preserves. It is called the La Tartine. Their sunrise croissant is great. It has scrambles eggs, the best cheddar cheese and a pesto aioli. You can add avocado or bacon for a just a couple of dollars more. Their Quiche is a must try. It has mushroom bacon leek with ham or bacon or they have a spinach one that also has cheese. For lunch try their Kaskrout Merguez sandwich which has Pan roasted merguez sausage, Tunisian salad of cucumber, tomato, red onion, extra virgin olive oil, and harissa all served on a toasted baguette which is so good. We got an extra to take to our hotel. It was all great, from start to finish.

5/21/26 Got pistachio, almond croissants & a mixed berry bateau, service is friendly, this location has a bigger indoor seating & a much bigger outdoor patio-refreshing! It's in a plaza where Pavilions is so parking is free but shared. The pastries are delicious' scrumptious as per usual. I like the ambiance here compared to the one in Laguna Hills (but their staff are super friendly over there) Great experience overall

Wow wow wow Chaupain did not disappoint Came here for mother's day for brunch and my mom sure was happy. We were greeted by the nicest girls working at the pastry case and they explained how to order. They had such a wide variety of pastries and breakfast/lunch items. I also love that they were giving out samples of different pastries. Everything looked so good it was so hard to pick! We ended up getting the mother's day special omelette, french dip sandwich, chicken pesto sandwich, and pistachio croissant. Everything was spot on and you can tell everything was made fresh. I will definitely be back to try out more of their menu!

I love Chaupain. One of the best bakeries in oc if not best. Croissants are amazing. Great texture. Buttery flakey. Love it. Ham and cheese is also on point. Carrot cake if they have it. So good. Not too sweet. Actually everything here is so good

It's dangerous to have this bakery near the bank, grocery & hardware stores. I'm tempted way too often! The pastries are laminated perfectly so they are flaky while never dry. The selection of food and drinks is large. It's a great place to meet friends or get food-to-go. The coffee drinks are "okay" and can take some time, so if you get drinks to-go, be prepared to wait a little bit during the crowded times. There's seating outside, as well as inside.

Cutest little French bakery! Loved the bakery items the most! Want to try everything!

OK, I'm updating the review of this cute really high-quality bakery. It seems like they've got their management staff putting together and they are trying hard. Looks like they have increased their staffing management appointment so we're very happy and we frequent this place a lot. Keep up the good job

This place had beautiful croissants of all flavors! The bakery is located in a shopping center that has plenty of parking. I highly recommend the almond croissant.

The pain au chocolate is superbly laminated dough. The French baguette had zero flavor and we ended up sharing it with the birds.

Great bakery, great sandwiches, when you are inside it smells like any bakery in Paris. Loved it. Their eclairs are perfectly made. Lots of bread variety, cinnamon rolls very good. Looking forward to return.

Yum! I stopped by this location because I love the other location so much, and it did not disappoint. The space here is more open, the samples were a nice touch, and the staff was incredibly friendly. There's a great variety of sandwiches to choose from, and I was especially excited to see fruit tarts-my favorite! I'll definitely be back.

The sourdough bread was delicious Croissant was a 4 out of 5. Just love that there are so many quality french bakeries I'd come back again

I was mildly disappointed with a few things, though. The lobster roll was delicious and definitely the highlight of the meal. The chips were just okay. My latte, unfortunately, was one of the worst I've had... it tasted like milk with just a splash of coffee. The staff was very kind and happily replaced it with an Americano, which was much better. One inconvenience was the restroom situation. The closest bathrooms were by the lighthouse, which is a bit of a walk. I only wanted to rinse the lobster off my fingers, so I ended up using a glass of water outside instead. The service was friendly and accommodating, and the food had some strong points, but the disappointing coffee and lack of convenient restrooms kept this from being a higher-rated experience. I would give it a 3.5 star but since its not allowed, the experience was pleasant enough for a 4. Prices were decent id say

A perfect restaurant for a night out!…read more I would honestly give a 5/5 in all areas to The Dock, the food was exquisite and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. The space is a bit small but very lovely and you can see the harbor right from where you eat. There's even a private walkway you can go to and take pictures or enjoy the scenery. We got the halibut, scallops, lamb, duck, and (not pictured here) the soup de jour which, for us, was the gazpacho. Overall I would say everything was a delight to eat, everything was tender, juicy, and had just the right amount of sauce and toppings. For me, the soup was the stand out though, one of the best gazpachos I've ever had and I'm not usually a cold soup kind of person. The dock is an upscale seafood restaurant that I believe may use French inspired techniques? Which I would say is the only critique I could have of it. Everything was so tender and perfect, some dishes started feeling a little one note (a very very good note though). There were a variety of ingredients that came on all the plates that, but felt like they never veered far enough to create a more interesting balance for the palate. A classic complaint of my steak too juicy, my lobster too buttery. But technique-wise everything was executed perfectly but I would say if you are more of an adventurous eater you should definitely talk to your waiter/waitress and ask for their advice. Would definitely recommend for any special occasion or if you want enjoy the most fork (dare I even say, spoon) tender meal of your life.

Seating is very close to other tables ... our 'neighbors' were loud and boisterous... we found it hard to converse and even relax until they left. The service was fine...There is lots of competition for that in Newport. Shorebird is much roomier, has the same view, validated parking and great food as well. We kicked off dinner with a round of drinks: an espresso martini with a nice touch of cinnamon, a refreshing margarita, a tall draft beer, and a tequila margarita. We also shared a fantastic salmon and avocado specialty roll, along with sashimi and crudo plates that tasted super fresh. Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

It's waterfront and can be accessed via the boardwalk (it's behind the street-side shops). Parking can be tough and very expensive - you'll likely have to park in the structure and walk over. Make sure to take your ticket with you for validation. Seating is available inside and outside on their covered patio. Plenty of space for parties of all sizes. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to make a same-day reservation for a Sunday afternoon. They had plenty of open seating even when we got there. Tables were very dirty. They have a lot of work to do - it seems like months if not years of food, dust, and salty moist air mixed together and collected in the creases in the tables, on the walls, etc.. It's like a sticky gross residue that never gets completely clean. Many people like to dress nice in the area but honestly I would hate to wear something nice here out of fear it would get dirty. We also required new plates as ours had old food stuck to them. Service was not great. Our waiter was somewhat attentive but not nice - the poor guy seemed miserable like he hated his job and did not want to be there. Despite the restaurant being full, he wouldn't come by often when we actually needed something - he even disappeared towards the end and a new waiter had to help us. Food is delicious. Besides the location, their saving grace. We tried the sandwiches and yummy! Fries were also delicious with the spicy mayo. Love the different options they have, overall. They also had some great looking food on the brunch and drinks section of the menu. You can scan the QR code at the table to see pictures of each menu item. Overall was good and we'll be back every once in a while because we love Lido. Will try sitting inside in hopes the tables are decent. Really hope management makes some improvements though!
