Not usually out this far in OC on a weekday, but since I was, I definitely needed to stop by and grab a snack. While I was debating between knock knocks, I saw a sign for the knock knock flight!!! Sold. First, I need to say that Sam was a gem. I cannot do coconut and after much assistance, I was able to get a second regular instead. I cannot say how much I enjoyed the sampler; each small knock knock came with a coffee pairing that I thought was pretty spot on. Knock Knocks: Classic - the institute was pretty solid when I had it, so I was a tad bit disappointed because I was hoping it would be soft like a hostess cake. However, I took the second one home and when I ate it later, it was the exact same consistency I wanted!! Bananas Foster - I was a little worried, because the flavour profile would be delicious, but so much could go wrong with the fresh banana and banana bread. However, the cake was moist and the bananas were not overwhelming; instead of slices of fresh banana, it was bits and spread in a nice layer. Dubai - thought I would really like this, but it was too rich for me. I mean, I still enjoyed it, but I could only have a corner cause it was so rich. Each coffee was unsweetened and were a good match for each sweet treat. I would probs swap the cold brew from Dubai to the coconut one and the macchiato to the Dubai bite. And have I mentioned Sam? The staff is always great, but Sam really went above and beyond for me.

Scratch Bakery and Cafe is absolutely delicious. Any time I am at Fashion Island I must stop by for their oatmeal chocolate chip cookie! They also have great drinks, food, and customer service. I love that they have indoor and patio seating and a great view of the fountain which often provides a relaxing atmosphere. I tried the avocado salad for the first time and was very impressed. The chicken was so soft and tender and the lemon vinaigrette paired with the flavors perfectly. They have so many great pastries, I highly recommend giving them a try.

Not going to lie this desert hit the spot! We got the banana foster knock knock, it was surprisingly sooooo yummy. Reminded me of a chocopie but elevated, IYKYK

I came in with no expectations and left genuinely impressed. Moulin is usually my go-to café, but lately the quality hasn't been the same, so this visit was a refreshing surprise. At first glance, the place looks unassuming, but it's easy to see why there's a line during weekend brunch hours. Everything is made from scratch, and the difference is obvious in every bite. The pastries are so good. My favorites are the rye pastrami sandwich, pistachio croissant, and churro cruffin. Even after sitting in my car on the drive home, everything stayed impressively crisp. They also offer a coffee flight called the "Knock Knock," which is a fun and unique experience that satisfies both your caffeine and sugar cravings.

ughhhh i think this is now one of my favorite bakeries ... there is usually a line on the wknds in the morning. love that they are pet friendly. they have indoor and outdoor seating. after a short wait, i think i wanted to order one of everything. i ended up getting: chocolate chip cookie manna buns (everything bagel seasoning) banana bread oatmeal almond chocolate chip cookies pistachio raspberry butter cookies the manna buns were my favorite. need to go back this wknd to grab another bag or two lol. def also need to grab brunch here one wknd. friendly staff and clean space. parking: located in fashion island. scratch bakery is in front of Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus. plenty of parking.

Came here for a quick dessert and the Knock Knock cake was very good. Chocolatey with ganache on the outside and creamy with buttercream on the inside. Perfect combo! The bakery cafe is full of delicious-looking cookies and breads. Would definitely come back for another visit when craving for some sweets.

This is a fairly simple review as I only came here to try one thing: their distinctive Knock Knock, which is a chocolate-coated chocolate cake with a creamy center. It was served chilled. It was delicious and indulgent and definitely freshly made. The cake was soft and moist, the chocolate coating thick and tasty, the cream creamy. I would describe the Knock Knock as a Twinkie on steroids. I went there at the end of the day so the cafe was empty, yet pleasant. It has a nice environment. The gentleman behind the counter who served me was friendly. I'm not sure I would try the Knock Knock again, as there were other pastries and baked goods that looked great. An added plus for Newport Beach: their prices were reasonable for the quality of items being sold. I'll try something else on my next visit.

Great bakery and cafe that offers a wide variety of tasty treats and drinks. The space is large with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The pastries are very delicious and pair well with the coffee. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

This bakery/cafe is located at Fashion Island. After finishing a nearby appointment, I came here for an early lunch on a weekday. It's a fast casual cafe where you order at the counter. The bakery items all looked wonderful but I was after one of their sandwiches and chose a breakfast sandwich plate - the Monte Cristo. I also purchased a large hot vanilla latte. There are only 6 or 7 tables inside, far too few. There are a number of outdoor tables but on this cold and windy day the indoor tables were all taken. I had been given a number for my order delivery to be placed on my table. As I worriedly eyed the prospect of having to sit outside, a small table inside became vacant and I quickly pounced on it. While they deliver your food to your table, they call your name to pick up your drinks. When they called my name to pick up my latte at the counter, I sprinted there and back before someone else took my table. The latte was served far too hot. I couldn't drink it during my meal so carried it with me after I finished eating. It took about half an hour before I could even sip it. It was a standard but solid vanilla latte, nothing out of the ordinary. As far as my meal, the Monte Cristo wasn't a TRUE monte cristo. Honestly, I think the only place to find a real deep fried one around here is at Disneyland. But this faux Monte Cristo had the proper components - a French toast sandwich with melted cheese, turkey, and ham. They had syrup for dipping rather than the traditional berry jam. It was admittedly very delicious. The hash brown on the plate was exceptional - perfectly crisp outside with soft potato inside. You'd think that, surrounded by wonderful bakery items, the employees would seem happy but no, not a single smile. Maybe they all burned their tongues on the coffee.

This bakery and restaurant is rad! I've never even been here before and I've been missing out for so long! They have a few gluten-free items that are amazing like the macaroons and the chocolate chip cookies and this passionfruit dessert that looks incredible. The sweet girl Uesenia that helped me today is very patient!

Scratch Bakery was such a cute stop in Newport Beach. Everything felt fresh, cozy, and easy, and it's the kind of place that works whether you want coffee, breakfast, or just a little bakery moment while shopping around Fashion Island. The vibe was relaxed, the space was clean, and it had that casual Newport feel that makes you want to sit and stay for a bit.

My friend and I usually come here for a post-workout pastry and coffee catch-up, but this was our first time grabbing a bite to eat. We ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup, and it was perfect for the cooler weather. I loved that they kept everything traditional while elevating the flavors. Service is always great, and we consistently enjoy their drinks and pastries. It's also a nice place to sit outside, get some fresh air, do a little people-watching, and relax before heading out to shop.

OMG best bakery ever! Get the knock knock flight you will thank me later. Everything is amazing and delicious here. It's in Fashion Island. The coffees and food are good here but the baked goods are for sure the star. Will be back every time we are at the mall. Happy Yelping!

Ask the Community - Scratch Bakery Cafe

Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask is this a café that is accessible from outside of the mall or is it next to an anchor store? Thank you.?

Hello, we’re located right across from Neiman Marcus, next door to R&D Kitchen which is right off the entrance closest to the Christmas tree. Hope this helps.

Perfect atmosphere for a slow breakfast date. The food was incredible. Eller is clearly serious about sourdough and they absolutely nail the execution. I've…read morenever had a bad experience here before, the food has always been great, and the staff has always made us feel welcomed and taken care of. This last visit was unfortunately very different. We came in with a fairly large party, and we completely understood that accommodating a group our size is a lot of work. When we got in line, the employee asked how many people were in our party, which made sense. However, we were then told that we could not all pay separately. This was confusing because payment is taken before you even sit down, so it's not like we were trying to split a bill afterward. Rather than make a fuss, we combined everyone's orders onto one card, totaling around $400. The food and drinks came out fairly quickly, which we appreciated. The reason I felt compelled to write this review, though, was because of how rude one particular employee was during the experience. She was wearing patriotic cat ears and appeared to be one of the baristas. One of my friends ordered a latte with alternative milk, but it seems the order may have been entered incorrectly. I've worked in the coffee industry myself, so I understand mistakes happen all the time, and remaking a drink is usually not a huge issue. Instead of handling it kindly, the employee responded with, "That's how it was put in, the request time has passed, that's our policy," in an incredibly dismissive and rude tone. We were honestly stunned. My friend, visibly uncomfortable, just quietly said "Okay," and the employee walked away. Nothing was offered to make the situation right. This happened after we had already spent hundreds of dollars and tipped before even being served. I'm not someone who enjoys complaining or writing negative reviews, but the interaction completely changed the experience for our entire group. What's most disappointing is that the refusal itself wasn't even the main issue, it was the attitude and apparent enjoyment in being dismissive over a very small and understandable mistake. I'm writing this mostly out of disappointment because I truly loved this place. I also think it's important for larger parties to know ahead of time that there appears to be a policy limiting payment methods, even though I've personally visited before with smaller groups where separate payments were allowed. I genuinely hope this was just an off day, because Eller Bakery has been a place I've loved supporting for a long time.
