Once you come to Too Sweet, you'll never want to eat anyone else's's Balboa Bars. The quality of the chocolate is soooo good!!! It's creamy, rich & delicious. The bittersweet chocolate beautifully coats the vanilla ice cream bar & you can select different toppings to cover your bar: toffee, various nuts, sprinkles, coconut & much more. I will travel 30 minutes to eat Balboa bars from here, no joke. I'm slightly lactose, but the vanilla ice cream doesn't do any damage. (It would honestly be worth it.) They also have chocolate covered bananas & an assortment of other chocolatey treats! The other half of the building is Tuti Fruti froyo, so in case you're not into chocolate. You've got froyo. I've had them at the two other popular places that seem to always have a line, so I was thrilled to come across Too Sweet! First time trying a famous Balboa Island frozen banana! There were many other chocolate goodies but we wanted to keep it traditional. What also caught my eye was the jar of turtle gummies...they looked super cute as their shells were different colored. I will have to try those next time and see how they compare to other gummy snacks I have had (mostly gummy worms). Back to the banana, I liked how there were options on the toppings. My husband chose the almonds and his brother chose the peanuts. I tried both and they were equally satisfying. The frozen banana came out to about 4 bucks but it was plenty for one person. In fact, my husband and I shared a banana and it was enough to satisfy my craving. The location is in the heart of the Balboa shopping strip and there are tables and benches right outside so you can sit and enjoy your dessert. For all you froyo fans out there, this location was attached to a self-serve frozen yogurt spot so you have plenty of dessert options! Will definitely be back. There was another banana stand next to this shop but there was always a long line so I will probably just go back here again since I'm not sure how much better the banana can get. When we lived in Issaquah, WA in the 80's, every year at the Salmon Days festival a candy shop down the freeway would sell ice cream bars, dipped in chocolate and rolled in nuts. They were not only amazing but the smell and taste would linger in my minds for weeks. When Costco opened up in the state of Washington, they served "fast food" and treats and these same ice cream bars. It was always a big treat when I would get one of these wonderful ice cream bars after shopping. But sadly, they disappeared ;( When we were in Newport Beach, California we learned that this delectable treat was called Balboa Bars. On a recent trip while visiting Newport Coast, we took a day trip to Balboa Island and discovered them. There were many vendors but we selected the candy shop, "Too Sweet" to purchase our Balboa Bars. Just as I thought, it was amazing!!! That familiar taste had me salivating and enjoying every single bite. I'm yearning for one of those bars, just as I write this. If anyone from Costco is reading this, PLEASE BRING BACK THE BALBOA BAR (at least in the Sacramento area)! He got right to it and started melting the white chocolate. While we waited for the coating to set on my strawberry, I order a couple other things.
