We went to Calletana's Peruvian Restaurant for their buffet and it was such a great experience! They had an incredible variety of Peruvian dishes, from the classics to so many favorites, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. You can really taste the authenticity and quality in every dish. The price was also very affordable for the amount and variety of food offered, which made it even better. And the desserts? So good! The perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. On top of that, the staff was very kind and attentive, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I've been seeing ads on Facebook for this place and have been super excited to visit. I finally did, after attending the dmv chocolate and coffee festival at the expo center, on November 2025. Well let me tell you, it was awful. We were extremely disappointed. Family of 3 Peruvians and 2 gringos went for late lunch. We didn't ask for anything crazy- we got one pollo a la brasa with yuca on the side. They took our order, then as they came to serve it said "we don't have any more of the chicken sauce" WHAT? one tiny plastic ramekin of salsa de pollería for a whole chicken? Any respectable Peruvian knows that's a crime. This should have been disclosed before, but okay, we made due with the mayo and other sauces. The yuca was well made- nice and crunchy. When I tell you the pollo was the worst chicken I've had in my life, I am not exaggerating. It was not even bad pollo a la brasa- it was bad rotisserie chicken, it was worse than a chicken from any random grocery store hot and ready section. I would take a $5 Costco chicken over this any day. The skin was gross, the chicken had no taste. I really wanted to just eat it for substance and protein after a long day, but I couldn't it was assaulting to my taste buds. I don't know if these guys had an off day or what, but I left with a very bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). Regarding the service, they were nice and friendly. For the people asking if they can bring their 12 year old daughters to this restaurant, I advise against it. My family came here on Mothers Day & the staff was incredibly rude. My little sister who is 12 years old, was told that she will have to pay full price because she looks like she will eat for an adult??? My other cousin who is 11 & smaller stature paid half price. The cashier was insensitive & lacked decorum & empathy because she said this infront of a child. It would be better for her to be put in the back with the food instead of direct contact with the public but i dont know if having that negative & nasty energy around the food is any better. I ordered 1/4 chicken with two sides for take out at about 12:15pm yesterday (5/8/26) and after 20 minutes my order was still not ready so I left and had to find faster food service somewhere else. The restaurant was understaffed and overwhelmed with orders. The server was serving the seated customers and also at the cash register. It seemed like the seated customers were given priority over the take out food orders. This is unacceptable during lunch during a Friday. The restaurant should have been better staffed!! The other day I ordered bistec a lo pobre. Didn't think they would take it literal. However, that bistec was very pobre! The egg was under cooked, I could still see the egg whites on the egg dripping, the steak was WAYYY over cooked and was difficult to chew. Rice, salad and plantains were OK. I've had Peruvian food in places from California, Miami, Hawaii, and multiple places in the DMV....... Yay me. The point is this place leaves much to be desired such as quality, taste and service. We ordered the pollo saltado, normally this has an amazing flavor but the soy sauce was overpowering. It tasted and looked like they just poured soy sauce all over French fries chicken and rice. Nothing was blended and there weren't any other flavors in the dish. The yucca (hard to screw up but they impressed me in that regard so congrats) had zero salt on it. The fried plantains (yes we ordered a lot of food for a large family ) smelled and tasted rancid. It seemed like it was cooked in a pan that had beef, chicken, and all the other foods or cooked in days old oil. The black beans were good but hey, I can use a Can opener too! I'll gladly take tips. The sauce? It was a congealed yellow sauce which the only flavor you could taste was cumin. Typically the sauce is a white savory sauce that is the result of a culmination of many flavors. Opinions are like assholes: everyone has them and they all stink but here's my puckered Stab at it: either go someplace else that has an amazing flavor profile or save yourself the trouble and tip and grab you a rotisserie chicken at Costco, steam some rice, and open a can of beans. Ordered 8 lunches online 2 days in advance for a work meeting. When I arrived to pick them up, nothing had been prepared. I had to wait 30 minutes to get my food. When I got back to the office, 2 of the entrees were missing. The food was packed randomly into many bags, instead of 1bag per lunch. Got some delicious takeout while I was in the area. Staff was courteous, food was made fresh, and my wait was comfortable with some interesting music videos playing on the tv (I guess they were Peruvian?) I got the lomo saltado and ceviche de pescado. Both were deliccciooous. I love Peruvian food, and I found this to be higher quality Peruvian than neighborhood chicken places, definitely. Short review: Peruvian style Chipotle with spicier sauces, fresh and cheap. I was in the area for a conference and low and behold a new place had opened since last year replacing a pretty bad bagel store. They do Chipotle style with choices of rice bowls and burritos along with some kids options and some desserts. I ordered a brown rice bowl with steak (lomo,) beans, Peruvian corn, tomatoes, and olives with their (spicy) green sauce. The steak was well portioned and quite tender. The corn was probably the best part of it and it went well with the green sauce. For the price, it was quite good. The service was good as well. Also, I got an alfajor (dulce de leche short bread cookie) to go which was fresh though a bit pricey (2.50 each I believe.) Good though. This is a good cheap new place in the area. I went to sit down and my husband went to pay BUT somehow my chicken bowl was missing. That's right, two space cadets gave it away to another customer. Zero apologies, dazed and confused server whispered something in Spanglish in terms of let's start again from scratch. But since I didn't want to spend another 15+ minutes gambling if my food will make it to my hands, I decided to pass. My husband's burrito was cold, obviously and tasted mediocre. I've been coming to Calletana's since they opened. At first, there was room for improvement and now, I am absolutely in love with everything they have done, starting with the daily lunch menu. You are given soup and you can choose between three different options as an entree. They also provide a drink and small dessert for about $15. I think this is the perfect lunch because whatever I don't eat there, I'll take home with me. You can find out what they will have on their Facebook page around 9am and lunch starts at 11am. They have events scattered throughout the month. During these events you will see musicians, dancers, and other live entertainment. Their specials don't end on the weekdays either. They have a bunch of buffets and special menus to pick from. Calletana's has become a great place to go to remind me of home and specifically, my grandmother's cooking. Carlos and his staff are always welcoming. The way he runs this restaurant is the reason I will always recommend Calletana's when it comes to Peruvian food. read more

Hands down the best Chipotle- style place I have ever been. No more Cava or Chipotle for us after coming to this place. We had the burrito with steak and 2 bowls one with pulled pork and another one with chicken. They are packed with flavor!! The toppings are great. You can choose either white rice/ brown rice, salad or fried rice then add the beans ( we chose black beans) and the toppings include the Peruvian corn (very tasty), pico de gallo, lettuce, cilantro, onions and of course the sauce. We went with the green one (medium i think). Service was great. Everyone was so friendly. Very reasonable prices too. We also had dessert- tres leches (very yummy!) and alfajores. We stopped by here on the way up to Chantilly for a movie. I ordered a grilled chicken burrito with their fried rice and guacamole for a total of 9.65. I thought all the ingredients were very well-made, freshly cooked and seasoned. Fried rice had a seafood zing to it which I am a fan of. I'd recommend getting the guacamole (around 1.85). The burrito was pretty packed - definitely felt like I got my money's worth of food. Overall, place was not too crowded although we were there around 2:30PM. Friendly service. However, their "Lomo (steak) bowl" tasted absolutely NOTHING like authentic Peruvian lomo. I'm not a picky eater, but it was gross. The "empanadas" were like the Bolivian salteñas style, which I totally dislike (personal preference, tbh). The salchi-papas would've been good, had they not drowned it in ketchup, mayo and mustard...which is a typical topping, just not drenched in it. And they forgot the alfajor that I ordered and paid for. Who knows, given the great reviews, maybe I caught them on an off day, or something.
