I am not as big of a fan of the food as others but the baked goods and sweets are amazing. Best cake is the double layer strawberry cake with strawberry preserves between each layer, covered in cream cheese frosting topped with white-chocolate dipped strawberries on top. Growing up with the Butcher Shop- I have never found a burger joint that begins to compare! When you walk in, the sights & smells can be a bit overwhelming. They sell meat: raw & deliciously cooked. They have a bakery. They have a salad bar & a fixin's bar. You can watch them cook your food... Side note- they are one of the few restaurants that sell a foot long hot dog. There's a lot going on in this little place. Every meal here begins with either a bowl of beans, or a bowl of chili. Either way, you can't go wrong! It's the best place to have fountain drinks because they have no allegiance and carry both Pepsi & Coke products- so everyone will be happy. Then- your number is called out and you get your food & fix it whatever way that makes you happy. Growing up- I always liked the patio with windows overlooking a big creek/drainage ditch. I had several different types of cookies and they were all delicious. We had been told by family about their famous pecan diamonds---part pecan pie, part prailine, part pecan candy-all yummy. First I want to say the service & people are always nice! I have grown up eating at the butcher shop & I always get the fried chicken sandwich...it has always been really good, except for tonight. It had no flavor whatsoever. I had three bites and couldn't even eat the rest. Was very disappointed. It looked like the same fried chick I have always had but the taste just wasn't there. Curb appeal is good! Who doesn't love meat and desserts! It was a little congested when we walked in which was fine means people like it! Worst Burger and fries I can remember paying for. My wife ordered a Chicken fried steak and oil was dripping from it. I've had better burgers from the back of rural gas stations out in the middle of nowhere! This had No seasoning, no flavor and really was greasy. Fries where also greasy. I woke up at midnight with my stomach cramping from the meal and I only ate half of the burger. Now when you walk in the door, they have a full glass case full of some of the prettiest cakes, pies and pastry's that I've ever seen. I got a chocolate Cupcake that was pretty great but I also ordered a whole Key Lime pie to go.. That was the the straw the made my break my silence and come here to write this review. That pie tasted nothing like Lime or lemon, or anything I have ever put in my mouth in all my years.. I've eaten Key Lime pie all over the country and this was the worst. The burger was absolutely tasteless. The pepperjack I ordered was replaced with Swiss, so there was no flavor there, either. The fries were very small-cut and they reminded me of string potato fries, and they were so hard I couldn't begin to pierce them with a fork. For the first time ever I threw away 3/4ths of the fries. Horrible meal, I'm afraid, and the saving grace would have been the baked goods (always delicious!) but I wasn't having dessert. The bad thing is that the price of more than $13 could have been beat at a new place in town by three dollars for a huge cheeseburger, excellent fries and a drink!
