Well have not been to Longview for two years, so same with the Butcher Shop. Decided to go by and get a bacon cheeseburger and fries!!! I live in Seattle now and dream of The Butcher Shop. The buns. The smell of beef in the air. Magic happens at The Butcher Shop. Me pushing a 7 year old out of the way to get to the fixings buffet? Yes. Me striking up an instant friendship with the gentleman at the next table while we watch football on the TVs? That's affirmative. You know, I never got the hype around The Butcher Shop as a kid who grew up in Longview - so when people say "It's Thursday night! Let's go eat at Butcher Shop!" I just kind of get let down and almost want to find a way out of this. The meat is mediocre. No seasonings, no flavor. Cheese options? American or Swiss. Blah. You get to build your burger... so you're gonna walk through a long line on Thursday nights when what seems the entire city decides to eat there. So you're at the fixings bar. It's messy. They work very slow, so they could be out of what you want to put on your burger, so you'll have to ask and make the line wait. They'll replace it in a jiffy when you do ask. Chili with no beans, and pinto bean sides are at the bar waiting on you. The beans are NOT Jucy's delicious spicy beans by any means. Don't think you might be impressed on that either. The buffalo burger is even mediocre because they don't season the meat at all. I've had better. The tables are almost always dirty and you'll have to ask staff to clean one you might like. It'll take them a bit to get around to doing that, so you'll stand around with your food and your party blocking the walkway of a crowded restaurant. Pros are the burgers are big, and if you grew up in Longview, you never know who you might bump into while you're there. An old high school classmate out with his family, or even the mayor or city official. The Butcher Shop is for some reason a Longview tradition. Haven't understood why, yet. read more

Inevitably people will name drop the Butcher Shop when looking for common Longview experiences. Lunch- Definitely the best burger in Longview or the area. Ok, that was the punch line. Buffalo burger every time I come in. Pure. Cooked to perfection. Fresh buns baked there in the store. The fixins' bar has what you want. Nothing fancy but enough for what a true burger is. Grab a small bowl of beans or chile. Ready. Set. Dig in. Saw a guy in front of me at the bar. He had a tray of fries. He topped it with the chili, some onions and shredded cheese. Why didn't I think of that? ... A. Next trip. We heard about The Butcher Shop and we thought about getting our Wedding cake here so we went to a cake tasting with Tonya and her cakes were amazing!! It was hard to just chose 1 so we chose two Strawberry and vanilla!! We had no idea on design and she took the wheel and had some great ideas and we trusted her! She told us what she was going to do but when the cake arrived it was even more WONDERFUL!!!!! We loved it and tasted even better!!! Without her we would of been lost and with no cake! We truly don't understand why everyone loves this place. I mean, it's fine, but the food is pretty bland. Favorite breakfast: breakfast tacos. They are huge and filled with eggs, cheese, sausage and peppers. Come two per order for ~$6. Only downside is they are not customizable. Perhaps you can specify when you order Favorite lunch/dinner: cheeseburger. The buns are awesome, the burgers are a good size and seasoned well. Of mention: The buns. We regularly buy them here when having burgers. You can get a bag for the same price as the store. Bacon. Waffles. Pancakes. These are all safe orders. Where they fall short.. Chili: sure, it's free on the toppings bar, but it is essentially flavorless, fatty ground beef swimming in a vat of red grease Beans: again, free on the toppings bar, but do not have much flavor, either. Gravy: very bland, makes for a bummer biscuits and gravy Fries: fresh cut, but limp and under seasoned Cookies: need more sugar!!! Also it is unclear how the salad/toppings/breakfast extras bars work to first timers. It's an easy place to meet friends or take family. The restaurant is huge. I ate here last Sunday evening. Per reviews on here, I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The bun the burger was on was great, guessing baked in-house, based upon the large dessert case by the door. The burger itself was mediocre. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, so I ended up with a well done, very dry, and almost tasteless burger. This is tolerable at a place where they serve thin burgers, but this was almost an inch thick, so there's absolutely no reason they can't cook it to order! They have a "fixin's bar" which might be where Fuddruckers got their idea from, since it was very similar. The tomatoes, albeit out of season, looked awful. More pink and green than red at all. Butcher Shop......beer trough and buffalo burgers. The restaurant has pretty plain offerings. Burgers, chili, baked potatoes, etc. My personal favorites are the chicken fried steak and chicken breast sandwich. The fixins bar lets you pile on as many pickles and onions as you want. They have a pretty great salad bar too, really fresh ingredients, but usually pretty messy. Butcher Shop.....a weird name for a bakery In East Texas, Butcher Shop cakes are kinda famous. They're the best around. Recently, they remodeled the bakery so it's bigger and cleaner! (I used to work in the bakery many years ago, and it was pretty old and dingy back there. Very happy to see they were able to freshen the place up a bit with the remodel) They have chocolate cupcakes that are to die for, and their red velvet cake can't be beat. What this place lacks in variety over at the restaurant, they make up for in sweets! Not sure how many people know this, but if you're having a grillin get together, call The Butcher Shop, and they will wrap up as many burger patties as you want in old fashion butcher paper. I am struggling with my score on this one - food: eh, its ok 3 stars I'd say desserts: OMG they make the best black forest cake in the area 5 stars atmosphere: 3 stars? I mean its just a room with lots of TV"s and a big fixin's bar. Meat Market: 4 stars, the only place my family will buy meat from. so I'm safely between a 3 and a 4. The menu is your typical friend food fare: Foot-long hotdogs, burgers, baked potatoes, chicken fried steak... the usual. I do like getting chili and maybe some beans before my meal. The fixins bar make me a little squeamish, people stick their whole heads under the sneeze guard.. Overall, the food is OK, but the desserts and meat save the day! read more

Not only are their burgers delicious and fresh, the bakery makes the most delicious cakes I've ever had. They have EXCELLENT prices and their cakes and cookies are beautiful. I would love to have a bakery like this in Austin that had such tastey baked goods for such a great price. I declined his offer. He seemed slightly offended but soon got over it. I got the "grilled breast of chicken". Holy sodium batman! It took forever to make (which is fine considering its chicken and you dont want it undercooked), but what I got was certainly not worth the wait. It was about 1/2 thick and 50% salt. I give this place 2 stars instead of 1 because the food that my co-workers got looked promising, and the baked potato i got was decent (kind of hard to screw up a potato though). Would I got back? I wanted to give 3.5 stars. I have been to the Butcher Shop maybe two dozen times, for the bakery and for the cooked food cariously. The bakery is very, very good. Everything is fresh and tasty. The restaurant part is consistent and I think they use good ingredients. Basic hamburgers, buffalo burgers, and chicken/hot dogs. There is a huge bar of "fixins" The salad bar is just okay. It is for the oddballs (like me) who are with people who eat big burgers. My quibble is that the restaurant is often a little dirty. I don't think this is the staff's fault--there are just so many people. Also, even though I have been there so many times, the driveway to the Butcher Shop is right next to another driveway at a bad location on McCann Rd. The bakery is GOOD. read more

I would like to say. My husband & I usually go every Sunday. Today I went, we are in town for the LeTourneau Car Show. It's not time to eat. I got some bakery items and wanted to order an order of fries to go. Well I was told by the rudest register girl. That she couldn't sell me Fries to go unless she charged me for fixings, to make the ticket $7.50. They will not sell a $2.00 order of fries Togo. I had spent $12.50 in their bakery. I would give The Butcher Shop a Top Rating ++++ because of the pastries they have but the customer service at the pastry counter is terrible. They have no numbering system so you don't know who's up next. Its up to the customers to sort it out. The ladies behind the counter act like they hate their job and wish you would go away. Wow this is a hard place for me to review! My boy and I stopped in a few days ago and picked up an apple strudel for dinner that night and it was amazing. I wanted to give it a 4 1/2 maybe 5. Then today my daughter and I went in for breakfast expecting a good meal based on the reviews and the dessert. Well that isn't what we got :( At best it was ok.... we had the egg platter and after a big discussion about if they had any bread, we got our meal. There was tons of food for a low price but I wasn't in love. The scrambled eggs were ok ( you can't really do much to scrambled eggs) and the potatoes were burned with little attempt to add seasoning. The bread was not the quality I would expect from a bakery so that was another let down. I would have to say I would rate the breakfast at a 2. The atmosphere is ok- lots of tables and not many of the personal touches that I love so much. Burgers are fine. My issue is with the bakery. I ordered a flat square birthday cake in the past and i was disappointed with bc they wrote happy birthday on the side of the cake and not on top of the cake which i found to be strange and asked them to fix and they didn't see any issue so it didn't get fixed. Last week i went into the bakery and ordered twenty breast cancer awareness cookies for a pep rally. When i went to pick them up two days later they told me they remembered seeing my order tickets but it had gotten lost. So i has to run around Longview searching for pink cookies. The Butcher Shop is honestly a treasure. The simple menu helps guarantee quality for sure. The burgers are always thick and well cooked. The build your own burger bar also allows the customer to make sure they get their burger just the way they like. The kid friendly environment makes it easy to stop in and get a giant hot dog sit back and have a great time. Don't forget to stop by the bakery and get an amazing dessert. My personal favorite is the pecan pie for sure, but I have yet to have something that was not spectacular! read more

The wait is absolutely ridiculous for one burger , employees wore there masks in any way that was not the correct way, when I came in a kid was literally licking a pole and dead flies were on the window seals. When I used to live in longview this place was amazing, come back and it seems like new management or something like that has ruined the place.
