Came here with a friend because we needed a place to sit and talk. This was the only place nearby that opened late in our neighborhood with refreshments and desserts. The cafe has a quaint, warm, cozy ambiance. Order at the counter. Street parking.

4 out of 5 stars Simple Pleasures Café is my go-to for a cold beer and calm vibes--until tonight, when a toddler went full Aladdin's Genie meets Jurassic Park. Screaming, flailing--this kid had range, baby. Still, nothing beats sipping a brew with good people under the city sky. Even with a tiny tornado in the background, this place keeps its charm. Next time I'm bringing earplugs and a juice box--just in case.

An Outer Richmond gem, Simple Pleasures has been a mainstay since 1978, offering coffee, sandwiches, bagels and pastries. We ordered drinks and a sun-dried tomato pesto cream cheese bagel, which was delicious! Prices are very affordable and there are many regulars in the crowd of customers! It's a small bustling warm and friendly spot worth stopping by if you're in the hood.

Great tuna sandwich today on 9-grain bread filled with lots of tastiness, mmmm good!

This is my favorite bakery in SF. Don't go to the other locations in Civic Center or Mission Bay -…read morethis one is the best and worth it despite the line (which is never too long, especially compared to places like Butter & Crumble which will have a two block line an hour before the bakery opens). I've gone a few times around 10-11 AM and gotten through the line pretty quickly, plus they've never been sold out of anything. Another plus of this location is its proximity to Golden Gate Park; when the weather is nice it's great to pick up pastries from here, find a grassy area in the park to put down a blanket, and have a mini picnic. My favorite thing to get here is the chocolate almond croissant, especially since it's fairly unique and not too many other bakeries do it. Everything is perfect from the almond filling, the flaky croissant, the crunchy baked almond filling on top, and the melted chocolate. It's pretty heavy and dense though, even when hungry I can only get through half of it. It's still good later on (even after a day or two) but nothing beats it fresh. I also like to get the plain croissant and their kouign amann. The kouign amann has the same buttery, flaky layers as the croissant and has this caramelized sugar coating that I love. Don't love their chocolate chip cookie - too much chocolate and not enough cookie. But everything else I've tried from their is so worth the drive over, line, and prices.

I give Ariscault a solid 4.5 but rounded up to 5 stars. This is my second visit but I waited until…read moreafter lunch to get pastries. To get the best choice of pastries it is best to go before noon before some of the most popular items sell out. I was able to get Almond Croissants, Morning Bun, Kouign Amann and a chocolate chip cookie. My wife said they make the best almond croissant, not overly sweet and nice flakey croissant, she liked the Kouign Amann but she said B Patissere makes the best. The chocolate chip was big, soft in the middle with a slight crunchy edge, the cookie had a good sweetness balance. I was lucky enough to go at a time when there were a few porn parking spots. The parking can be a challenge but it is worth the hunt for parking to get some tasty pastries.

Liked this place a lot, also appreciated the extreme variety of things available (especially…read morecompared to some of my other favorite bakeries like Arsicault). Definitely go early to get everything fresh, but you probably won't run into a line if you don't. Highlight of the menu was absolutely the kouign amann - it was so buttery and flaky with this caramelized sticky sweet inside, rivaled in my eyes only by the Arsicault one. We also got the seasonal one (raspberry and guava) which was also really good. The passion fruit bostock was also interesting with this spongy cakey texture with an almond topping. The banana chocolate almond croissant was another favorite of mine, it's also such a unique item and definitely a must order. We sat inside at a table so we could eat some of the pastries right away which I highly recommend - everything lost freshness after a few hours and I probably wouldn't get anything from here again with the intention of eating it later. They have a ton of cakes too, tried the chocolate mousse cake, the berry cake, and the passionfruit orange and guava cake. The chocolate mousse was my favorite and runs on the sweeter side compared to other chocolate mousse's I've had. The other two are also amazing and have a bunch of different layers. I also tried the prosciutto burrata and cherry tomato tartine - an open faced sandwich basically - which tasted good but was kind of difficult to eat, either with hands or fork and knife. Would definitely come here again both because what I tried was so good and there are so many other things there I'd want to try.
