It has such a classic look, it is the hotel that was used for the external shots in the original "the shining" movie.. on the inside, it's also very nice, it has a kind of rustic "lodge" feel. The hotel sits right at the base of Mount Hood, with beautiful views of the mountain from the back patio of the hotel, and there are lots of outdoor recreation, possibilities, for both the summertime and the winter time. The hotel is open year-round. They have a gift shop, There are plenty of food and drink options, but they are definitely expensive. I get it. This place is up in the mountains, there is a lot of overhead in keeping the place up, and of course, they have a captive audience. The nearest food and drink away from the hotel is like 6 to 10 miles down the road. The menu in the main dining room room looked good, but I can't speak to the food as I didn't eat there. I hope it's better than the blue ox bar. I had a slice of pizza there, and I wasn't impressed (see separate review...) This really is a beautiful property.

Short walk uphill, the guy at the parking, when we asked how to get to the restaurant, he directed us to a elevator or to hike up the steps. We picked the elevator. From there, we went up to the main lodge, steps to the top floor, to the bar & restaurant, and were seated right away. We got a good view around the top, sadly, there were no snow to be found, maybe a small handful here & there, farther away. It's still very beautiful inside & outside, so close to nature! We ordered a meatball sandwich and clam chowder, that we shared. And it came to our table nicely divided, with two plates, and two bowls. There were lots of clams and that was good, but the crispy onions on top made it salty! The service was very friendly. The meatballs were very tasty, I really liked that. It was a very interesting environment for eating. The Lodge restroom, was not easy to find, the entrance was like a half revolving door, when you enter, someone is coming out, or you wait and let the other go out. My husband was here when he was about 10 years old, with his grandparents. He only remembers a black & white photo of him.

Delicious food, lovely waitress kept out coffee and water glasses full, came by at all the right times. Get the huckleberry pancakes! Light and fluffy and many huckleberries! Amazing considering huckleberries only grow wild. Everyone else loved their non-pancake options and my pancakes that I shared with them. I'm so glad that the snowfall led us here!

I arrived late, but proprietors Stephanie and Eric welcomed me into the coolest house I have seen in I-don't-know-how-long. All of the things I hope and imagine a bed and breakfast to offer - warmth, fireplace, coziness, quiet, fireplace - surrounded and soothed me. One morning, I asked for my usual breakfast, and Eric said that he thought he had a compote that I would like even better, but if I didn't like it, he'd gladly whip up the usual (note to self: must obtain dictionary with the word "compote"). So I was gently being pushed to explore boundaries, as the therapists say. And it was better than the breakfast I had wanted! Every detail has been labored over, and the result is a temple of replenishment. If you want to learn how to be the perfect host, learn at the feet of the masters here at the Doublegate Inn. Their rates are really reasonable, too, for some odd reason.

If you know, you know: half that game is set around this lake, and I was not about to drive past it like some kind of NPC with no curiosity stat. Best impulsive decision of the trip. Paddled out with Mount Hood just looming over the water like it was posing for a postcard, completely unbothered by how often I stopped paddling to just stare at it. Meanwhile my wife set up her easel on the shore and turned the whole afternoon into her own personal plein air session, easily the most peaceful "side quest" either of us has been on. Cody, the kayak guy, deserves a raise. Genuinely fantastic and easygoing, knew the lake, made the whole rental process painless. If there's a loyalty program for Cody specifically, sign me up. Then the burgers. After paddling and pretending to be artistic by association, we did not expect resort burgers to go this hard. No notes. Zero zombies, zero motorcycle gangs, just a quiet lake, a great view, and an unplanned detour that ended up being the highlight of the drive. Highly recommend taking the exit.

They tell the owners the charges are one amount and then heap on additional charges that they did not reveal at the outset. Since they take such terrible care of guests, it reflects badly on the property owners. Calling the office to try to get things straightened is a useless waste of time as the office staff is dysfunctional. Whether you are a guest or an owner, All Seasons Vacation Rentals at Mt. Hood is a really bad company to do business with.

I'm leaving this review to save someone from going through the hassle that my family did! Not even worth ONE star! I booked on Vacasa.com and was unable to leave a review there. Where to begin, this place was a wreck. This trip was supposed to be a nice getaway for my husbands birthday and we had been looking forward to it for months. When we arrived to the cabin was so dark and so cold you could see our breath in the air. Naturally we went to turn on some lights and the heater and we quickly found that you couldn't turn on the lights AND have a heater running at the same time. The power kept shorting out resulting in everything shutting off. So we decided we needed light more than heat and we all just kept our jackets on. My kids were really hungry after the long drive so I looked in the kitchen for pots and pans to cook with. There were no cooking utensils. I found ONE sheet pan and it was all rusted at the bottom and unusable! The oven door didn't even close, I opened it and the door fell off completely! Then when I tried to preheat the oven the door wouldn't close so I couldn't use the oven for any cooking. In the backyard there was a shed filled with garbage and the yard was FULL of dog poop everywhere! You literally couldn't walk in the yard space it was so covered in piles of feces. The hot tub didn't heat fully and of course we couldn't use it because it was shorting things out and turning the hot tub on would shut down all the lights in the house. Really frustrating! The hot tub was one of the main reasons we booked this place! The bedroom sheets had not been cleaned. I found a pubic hair, dog hair all over, and what looked like either ketchup or blood on the sheets. I couldn't believe the quality of this place. Totally run down, no pride taken at all in upkeep. It was filthy, gross and felt uncomfortable the entire time. I called Vacasa and explained the situation, this was nothing like what had been advertised. We were all tired, cold and sitting in near darkness. We drove a long way to enjoy our stay here and it was exhausting and so disappointing. I had to hold for a few hours but finally got a refund which I'm thankful for, and we packed everything and drove all the way back home after being there for a few hours. I wish someone else had warned me so I'm warning you! Do not expect a warm and cozy cabin, do not expect a full kitchen or a clean backyard, and do not expect a hot tub. I really hope the owners of this cabin take some accountability and are more honest in their representation of their place.

It's also within stumbling distance of the Skyway Bar and Grill (which has terrific mixed drink and beer options). The husband and I had tons of plans for the weekend -- we were going to ski and snowshoe and spend time at Timberline...no. We didn't do any of those things (we're also from the area, so we didn't feel the need to cram in a bunch of activities). Instead we sat on the comfy couch, tended the fire, and drank copious amounts of brandy. Then we went to Skyway, came home, and sat in the hot tub. Totally worth every minute. If you want a relaxing getaway or even just a cool place to stay near Mt. Hood, you've found it.
