    sticky toffee pudding
    Destinee R.

Stopped in on the recommendation of friends that we must try the sticky toffee pudding. We complimented it with the espresso martini affogato, and it was a perfect pairing! My other half reported that he 'saw god' upon his first bite. It was everything I did not know I was missing, having lived in town for two years now. The ambiance of the place is cozy and inviting and we absolutely plan to come back for dinner.

Highly overrated, and overpriced downtown Westerly, RI spot. Few beverages and some apps will add up your tab very quickly, see photo. If you come here hungry, prepare to leave that way, unless youre prepared to spend $$ additionally on top of beverages and drinks, easy $300 tab for 3 people for a 3 course meal + alcohol which rival some decent steakhouses imo. Now if your idea of a night out is ambiance and atmosphere, then youre in the right place (as it does give off an interesting old vibe). As a foodie however, i appreciate both value + quality, which this place has none of, but rather all smoke and mirrors but again, good ambience. I personally will pass, since there are other options.

Everything was amazing , spent 8 days in New England area to visit son and this was the absolute best culinary experience of the trip, my son who has lived here for 9 months said it was the best Lobster Roll he has ever had. All cocktails and food were presented uniquely with high level of quality! They made my wife's birthday celebration extra special.

The ambiance was very cool. We sat at a half round table, which was great for conversation and a little more private. The decor was interesting and offered much to converse about. The food overall was excellent, only one dish was less than pleasing. Highly recommend the meatloaf, lamb tacos & chicken saltimbocca. The sautéed mushroom dish was bland & grainy - not at all what I had expected. Service was quick & the waitstaff was friendly.

Qucik bite at The Cafe in Westerly RI! Great place with awesome staff. We were just wanting a small bite because we had dinner plans but we will definitely be going back for a full meal. The oysters were delicious, but I do lovee some oysters. The croquettes were savory, crispy, and delicious. The deep fried artichoke hearts were a new delicious treat to me! Very crisp and then tender in the inside! Very tasty!! Lots of indoor seating, only saw a few outdoor but did not really explore the facility. Very chill, and comfortable inside. We very much enjoyed our visit and will be back for dinner soon!

Mushroom burger (no bun) with side salad

Returned one recent Wednesday afternoon before an author event at Ocean House. We walked around a bit before our reservation at 3p and arrived a little early, before they opened. Lucky for us there were high tables set outside in front of the door so we chilled until someone noticed us and kindly let us in. Being the first to arrive we scored a lovely table for two in the window which allowed for people-watching. The staff were pleasant and helpful as usual. I had a vodka tonic and my friend had seltzer with lime. Or maybe it was lemon, I don't remember. She had a salmon burger (no bun) with a side salad and I had a mushroom burger (no bun) with a side salad. She only ever gets the salmon burger so that says something right there. Again, it didn't disappoint. My mushroom burger was the bomb--a little too well done for my taste but oh so tasty, topped with grilled mushrooms, cheese, a lovely sauce, and a sprinkle of onion strings. To call the side salads that undermines their fabulousness.... mixed greens with the most delicious salad dressing imaginable. Service was fantastic. I love this place and will be back.

    Cocktails

Cocktails refreshingly delicious. Calamari was served with a GREAT Smile! Service was efficient. Ambiance was lively. Make a reservation though, place fills up.

Where can I see some prices so I can plan a visit? I can't find them anywhere.

I can't find them either , but figure, $10 to $18 for appetizers and Roughly $25-35 for the mains. If the burger indicator is anything , the featured burgers are $16-18 or there abouts.

The food was high quality, mostly locally sourced and perfectly prepared. Sauces and seasoning couldn't have been tastier. Went there a few days ago for the first time. My first choice was the "Summer Fettuccine" which unfortunately was so popular it had recently sold out. I settled for the more plebeian hanger steak which at any random restaurant can be anywhere from meh (mediocre) to excellent. This was EXCELLENT! Tender and tasty. Loved it. I decided to come backcountry the next morning and sample their breakfast fare. Equally delicious. So satisfying. Had a few things all excellent but the "simple" (not really so simple) "Morning Taco" was outstanding; definitely a cut above. I don't know if my stomach would have had room but my tingling brain was saying I could have had FOUR of those, nothing else and have left happy as a lark, owl, dove...

We started in the lounge and ordered a couple of martinis. It took about five minutes before the bartender really acknowledged us, and it seemed like there was only one bartender trying to take care of the entire restaurant. When my martini finally arrived, it was noticeably under-poured--about an inch below the top of the glass. That wasn't a great first impression, but I decided to give the restaurant a chance. I ordered the miso salmon but asked if the black rice could be substituted. I was told, rather emphatically, that the person in the kitchen is not a cook but a chef, and that the chef's dishes are "exquisite" and are what they are. I understand having a chef's vision and wanting to preserve the integrity of a dish, but I was surprised that they wouldn't make a simple substitution. I was told that the only way to change anything was to order another item from the menu, at an additional charge. That approach just didn't sit well with me. At most of the restaurants I frequent, especially at this price point, there is usually some willingness to accommodate a reasonable request. It also struck me as unusual that a chef wouldn't be willing to make a minor adjustment to a dish. At that point, I decided to order a small appetizer, finish my half-poured martini, and try my luck somewhere else. Fortunately, the night was saved by a visit to an Italian restaurant up the road. What a difference! The experience was fantastic. They were happy to tweak a pasta dish for me and even added anchovies, which were absolutely outstanding. The guys are from Italy, and the food and hospitality reflected that. I have no doubt that the chef at Ella's is talented and that there are people who really enjoy the restaurant. I went there because I had heard some very good things, but I had also heard some negative reviews and wanted to see for myself. Unfortunately, my experience confirmed some of those concerns. For me, a great restaurant is about more than the food. It's the combination of food, service, hospitality, and the willingness to make a guest feel welcome. Ella's missed the mark for me on this visit. The Italian on the other hand, turned what started as a disappointing evening into a great one.

While the hotel offers several dining possibilities, there is no question in my mind that Coast is their culinary chef d'oeuvre. My dining partner and I found their New England-inspired cuisine to be not only beautifully presented but also absolutely delicious. Throw in an award-winning wine list, friendly & personable service, picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean, and a most satisfying evening at table awaits. Be advised, however... What also awaits is a pretty hefty hit on your pocketbook, as our five-course prix-fixe Degustation Menu - with several choices included - was priced at $145.00 per person, plus beverages, tax & gratuity (there is also a similarly priced vegetarian menu). If you want to add the Reserve Wine Pairing, which I did, that will cost you an additional $125.00 per person (Grand Wine Pairing an additional $250.00 per person). Definitely not what you would call a cheap date. That being said, however, in my opinion - and that of my companion as well - dinner here is well worth the expenditure. Our first course was the Ninigret Pond Oyster "Pan Roast." Sourced from a local coastal lagoon that is linked to the Atlantic Ocean and Block Island Sound, Ninigret Pond is home to several reliable oyster purveyors. I must confess that I have never been an enthusiastic fan of bivalves in general - and raw oysters in particular. However, the pan-roasted representatives sampled here, smooth & buttery with a touch of sweetness and sprinkled with Royal Belgian Osetra Caviar, were quite good indeed. And the Ruinart Singulier 18th Edition, Blanc de Blancs, Brut Nature, Champagne, (France), proved to be the perfect libationary accompaniment. But even better was the outrageously delicious Bluefin Tuna Tartare. I have tasted this dish on numerous occasions; however, this particular incarnation was in a class all by itself. Gently caressed by avocado and kissed by golden kiwi and a beguiling carrot ginger reduction, the result was a presentation that was pleasing to both eye and palate, and a highlight of our evening. The 2019 Tegernseerhof Loibenberg Riesling Smaragd Wachau (Austria), of course, added immensely to the enjoyment. The next course presented us with a rather interesting conundrum... the choice between two equally appetizing possibilities. My dining companion, of course, went immediately for the Seared Scallops & Foie Gras. I, on the other hand, decided to side entirely with the carnivores... Kuro Farms Wagyu Strip Loin. Companioned by short rib, confit carrot, and Sicilian pistachios, this was a winner all the way... as was the wine selection, the 2020 Aslina "Umsasane," an enticing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot from Stellenbosch, South Africa. The dessert course was especially noteworthy, a Blackberry Sudachi Entremet aided and abetted by white chocolate mousse, lavender, and raw honey sponge. A rather unusual denouement, I must admit, but a lovely presentation and irresistibly scrumptious. And, once again, the wine selection - 2018 Domaine Huet Le Mont Moelleux, a Chenin Blanc from Vouvray, Touraine, in France's Loire Valley - was right on the money. The Bottom Line: An exceptionally fine dining experience. Pricey, to be sure... but, in my opinion, worth every penny. A restaurant to which my dining companion and I would gladly return. Highly recommended on all counts.

Coast Fails. Coast…read moreno longer is the exquisite dining experience we have enjoyed for many years. It is now overpriced, forced, and mediocre. We started by selecting the 7 course ($245 pp) menu which promised to be a culinary delight chosen by the chef. The first 3 courses were from the cold appetizer menu - they were served all at once (rushed), and had a vinegary, distasteful flavor. We then had 2 courses from the hot appetizer menu - one was 2 small potato buttons (again, with a vinegary flavor) and the other, a piece of very good lobster (served separately which was better). We then had 1 item from the entree menu (wagyu beef) - small, fatty but flavorful, and virtually no sauce and 2 Barbie-size asparagus heads. The dessert was a flavorless jelled chocolate ring - with a dab of forgettable ice cream. We have always been delighted with the extraordinary surprises from the kitchen - this time, it was a total disappointment in every way - presentation, flavor, and portion size. The servers were confused (failing to bring cocktails & wine on time). The bread was the best part but don't ask for more (it's rationed 2 per person)! Their once fun "per dish" wine pairing is reduced to "per course" and not worth it (3 glasses). Additionally, the room location has changed. No longer do you have the refined and ocean-forward experience, now only some guests MAY see some water. Our table was adjacent to their other restaurant, with a curtain separating us and the noise level was not acceptable (we even had difficulty understanding our servers). There was virtually no recognition of a birthday celebration at our table (there's always been something "special" for the guest of honor). The little confections for all were a nice touch, but lackluster. For 5 of us (7 courses each, total of 4 cocktails, and tip) it was $1800.00. We left sad, disenchanted, and hungry (not like the old Coast). We won't be back unfortunately, and don't recommend it to anyone - many better options.
