What a great place! My buddy and I skipped The Steak Out down the road with their notoriously mediocre food and faux cowboy ambiance in favor of The Cafe for one of best burgers you will find anywhere, great specials (see my picture) and spot-on service. This place reminded me of a place I might find in the San Francisco Bay Area but with the strong Arizona accent that we all love. Well done! read more

Really though - How hard is it to keep things like pastrami in stock? It is only their flagship sammie. But I find this problem to be very common down here in towns like Sonoita and Bisbee. If I've heard it once I've heard it a dozen times this week since we've been down here. "We are out of this that and the other thing" they keep saying at every restaurant including this one. BS is what I call it. Pastrami stays good for a long time in the fridge, so really, what excuse is there for such poor inventory management? Answer: there is no acceptable excuse. So instead I ordered a double chipotle burger done medium, but it came out decidedly well done, and the beef was tasteless and blase. Zero on the pink-o-meter. Zero on the flavo-meter. 100 on the gross-o-meter. They tried to cover up the tasteless meat with sauce and bacon, but they screwed that up royally too. The bacon was slathered with thick melted cheese, making it a hopelessly gross blob if you just want to eat the bacon by itself - which is how most good restaurants serve bacon burgers. Plus I paid 20 bucks to make this piece of junk burger a double. Are you kidding me? All I wanted was a hot pastrami sammy and I would have been happy with mediocre. But to top it all off, the hot water pipe in the bathroom screamed like a banshee when I washed my hands both times. Very loud pipe hammering in the walls which was extremely annoying to the restaurant guests. Sorry folks. it is Podunksville out here in SE Arizona, so why was I expecting anything else but mediocre food from incompetent restauranteurs? "The Cafe" in Sonoita came recommended by others, but I would give it zero stars if I could. Northwest Arizona where we live has much better food and people who know how to run great restaurants. MIDNIGHT UPDATE: My stomach is still hurting and bloated from this piece of junk burger. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAFE! read more

Delicious food, pleasant wait staff, good brownies. My table had a particularly good beef burger and veggie burger.

Lovely little place with quick and friendly service and great food. I had their chicken chipotle Cesar salad with a side of sweet potato fries and it was delicious. I will be stopping by here again very soon. read more

As someone else said when they walked in "Oh this is nice" Comfortable décor, not over done; nice patio for cooler weather. Service was slow as we walked in right after a wine tour van pulled in with a bachelorette party. Also number of locals walking out with large to go bags while we waited for our meal. Wait worth it, really enjoyed the triple cheese, tomato,pesto sandwich. Served with a chunky Hungarian Goulash soup with full-bodied flavor full broth. I didn't expect such a place in Sonoita! We were a party of 6 including two picky kids and the food was outstanding! All our burgers were cooked just like we asked, and the jalapeno corn chowder was really good. Everybody orders a different burger and they were all great! I tried the special which was the Ocean Man burger with fried calamari on top of the beef and it was very tasty. This is a lovely little café - one of the few in Sonoita, and a good one at that. We sat outside, since that is something that is impossible in Tucson currently. There were grapes growing on the fence that we were invited to try. Service was friendly - we asked what the APE burger was - The Adam Puckle Experience, and were told he couldn't say - which is exactly what we expected because it's a surprise burger that the chef chooses for you - they do ask if there is anything you're allergic to or don't like. This burger is more expensive than the others, but we weren't sure if it was worth it as we saw other burgers coming out at the same size, and that my husband would haved like more. We never were sure what he got, and the waitress who brought our water just guessed - we think it was a bison burger with onion rings and ghost chili cheese? Not sure that was worth it? My mango, swiss, chicken was tasty and full of flavor, and sweet potato fries were crunchy on the outside and soft inside. They have a nice wine and beer selection which we didn't partake in as it was still early, and we had a wine event to go to that evening. I definitely recommend stopping here while in Sonoita. The place gives you a feel for Sonoita, and is a good first stop. I was disappointed that we weren't asked if we wanted desert. I hear the pies are excellent! read more

I've tried this place several times. Never again. Always hit and miss on service and food quality. I waited over 30 mins for a Burger which was over cooked, service was very slow and inattentive- they were not that busy either. Tables were cleared slowly, all adding up to an unsatisfactory experience. read more

I always love to see what the specials are and more often than not I go with one of those choices. Otherwise I have to say their burgers are amazing. The soup is home made and the cafe is just a great place to go for home cooked food especially the deserts. Sometimes the service is hit and miss but all around one of my favorite places to eat. read more

I guess my review didn't save from earlier in the week. I had the steak salad which was well prepared and yummy. My husband had the Chile burger which he said was delicious. We sat at the dog friendly patio and since it was early 11am it was comfortable for us and our pooch. I loved the pink and white rose and the other foliage as well. On our last two day trips to Sonoita/Patagonia my wife and I had lunch at The Cafe. Because it was during "stay at home" the dining room was closed so we got the food to go and took their suggestion to go to the picnic tables at the horse track down the street.......great suggestion. Food on both occasions was very good.......the burgers are some of the best, in particular the daily burger special. Steak salad, the black and blue is very good.....soups were very good as well. So delicious! We went here on the suggestion of a local. I'm vegan and my omnivore husband is super picky, so it was a treat to find a place that #1 had something he wanted on the menu and #2 was completely unphased by my dietary restrictions. I ordered the APE burger (no two are alike!), and ended up with the most delicious, inspired portabello burger. It was definitely a hit with both of us. OMGoodness! We went here at the suggestion of a local. We were in town for wine tasting and needed a power lunch to keep going. This place has great service and fantastic food! They mostly serve sandwiches and a few salads. I had a half pound burger - smothered in cheese, chile and deliciousness. I was salavating as I was eating this thing! It was shared among the group and had a similar reaction thru-out. I also tasted the potato salad which was about as to die for! Wonderful place to eat! Delicious food and a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. Our waitress kirsten was very kind and knowledgable of the menu. The burgers were massive and the dessert pies were awesome. The Cafe also has solar panels for an off the grid eco friendly atmosphere. We go out of our way to go here whenever we can. Have never had a bad meal. Lunch is better than dinner, but that is just my preference for their BLT! The Café serves local wines and those from elsewhere. Adam, the young chef is talented and just a nice guy. Its hard to categorize this in a way, because of Adam. Here is a guy who is really a chef at heart, which shows in his food offerings, particularly at dinner who also is running a great diner, particularly at lunch. I have eaten here well over a hundred times over the years. All I can say is the food is excellent. Never once have I had a bad meal. I have had APE burgers that weren't my cup of tea, but the quality is unmatched. My one complaint is that burgers at most other restaurants just taste boring and unsatisfying. What a great place! Stopped in at this Cafe rolling through town as it was the first place we saw. Good wine and good service rather than waiting quite some time to get our check after we finished desert. My girlfriend and I both ordered the APE Burger which is there signature item on the menu. You basically tell them what you don't want on the burger and whether or not you like spicy, and the cook creates! Both of our burgers were outstanding with premium ingredients. Her burger even had apples on it which actually made for an interesting mixture with it being spicy as well. We were both open to the idea that these may have been the best burgers we've ever tasted. We had key lime pie for desert and it was most definitely a 5 star desert. While this little town has few options for lunch, there's no questions this place is a must! I'd drive out of my way to eat there again. read more

Had lunch here after doing some wine tasting at some of the local wineries. We had a chicken sandwich and a BLT. Tried 2 different types of fries. It was all yummy. Service was very nice. Looks like the locals think so too, as there seemed to be a few regulars there. Watch out for the more limited hours on certain days, so that you're not caught off guard that they are closed. Absolutely fabulous dinner. On my sons advice I had the burger, which was incredible advice. My parents live here and we went to dinner tonight with the baby.
