I came in with a groupon on a saturday afternoon to get some cupcakes and i was helped by woman who seemed very Reluctant to help me pick out some cupcakes. Ordered my nephews cake for this 2nd bday here. He loves dinosaurs and so of course that's the cake I chose to get him. It was vanilla flavored with fresh star berries and glaze filling. DO NOT ORDER A SPECIALIZED CAKE HERE!!! I am SO DISAPPOINTED!! I will never shop here. I called more than 3 times to confirm this place made a banana CAKE. The second time I called, they asked me if I would like to place my order for the cake. I declined because I wanted to come into the store. They confirmed that they would make me a banana cake as long as I gave one week notice before the event. Today, I come in to order my cake two weeks in advance and they are telling me they don't even make a banana cake!! I mentioned that I had called and they persistently said they don't make a banana cake. They state they only had a recipe for banana cupcakes and they could TRY to make a cake with that recipe but it would be my fault if the cake turned out bad. Meaning I would still have to pay for it. So basically, they CAN make it but it may not turn out. After hearing this i left immediately because that is not how a business should be properly run! Don't offer a service if you don't know you can even achieve that service! Not only did they not know what they were talking about, but they were extremely rude!! These people really need to get together for a staff meeting to discuss what they can and cannot achieve before promising clients. Both women I spoke to made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. read more

I've tried most of the flavors, including the lemon drop, berry, black tie, chocolate chocolate, apple pie, Almond Joy, etc. My favorite is the lemon drop. The icing is cream cheese & so yummy. I found The Cake Shop on the internet when I had an emergency birthday cake situation. They were able to accommodate me at the last minute. The cake was spot on and beautiful. I usually do all my own baking, and I'm very picky. The cake had the firm but moist consistency I associate with scratch cakes, none of the fluff of a boxed mix. In addition, the flavor was great and tasted very much like good quality vanilla. The strawberry filling could have used a few more chopped strawberries, but that's my taste and the filling had an excellent texture and strawberry flavor. Also, something that tasted freshly made, not from a mix or a can. The buttercream frosting was fresh tasting, buttery smelling and yummy. The decoration was absolutely beautiful, without being over the top. In addition, the mini eclairs I bought (as a test) passed with flying colors. This place isn't cheap, but it's fair for the quality they are selling. I will be going back as often as possible. Quality baking in the high desert -- who would have thought it?! So, I have been on the hunt for the best cupcakes, it's a hard job but someone's got to do it. At $3.00 a cupcake I get my hopes up but I have to say these are the BEST I've ever had. My husband and I went in the beginning of the week and got some. I got the Lemon Drop, 2 Red velvet, German Chocolate, Carmel Apple and the White Sprinkle. Needless to say we went back 2 days later and got more. My favorite is the Lemon Drop my husbands is the Carmel apple. The other cupcakes were good in flavor and moist but those were our faves. We also got an Almond Joy one the other day and it's a toss up between the lemon and almond joy. The Lemon Drop cake is moist and tasted like lemon. The frosting was a lemon/vanilla tasting, the white part was a little too sweet for me but the lemon frosting was soooo good. The Almond Joy...OMG. It has coconut packed in the cake and the cake is still moist. My husband got 3 Carmel Apple ones and says it takes like apple spice and he loves it. He also got me a chocolate covered strawberry. To be honest I don't think I've ever had one and I am in love. The strawberry is so sweet and neither the chocolate or strawberry over power the other, I got two more on our second visit. My husband got an eclare that is as big as your foot but hasn't ate it yet. When we need a cake for an event we will for sure be using The Cake Shop. Yummy!! read more

I have been decorating cakes for 20+ years; I've not had to order a decorated cake in a very long time...however, I just moved to the area, and discovered that the oven in my new home did not work...NOT GOOD...I needed a birthday cake for my mom ASAP! Going by the good reviews I saw here on Yelp, I decided to order one from the Cake Shop and was not disappointed (and I am kind of difficult to impress in the decorated-baked-goods department!). Everyone I dealt with here either in person or on the phone was friendly, professional, and seemed to be happy with their job. My order was taken promptly and when I picked up the cake on the date I had specified, it was exactly as I had ordered...even better, actually, because the decorator went to some extra effort and even put a decorative border around the sides and bottom of the cake. Mom loved the cake, and it tasted GOOD and FRESHLY BAKED, unlike grocery store birthday cakes I've had the displeasure of sampling. I will definitely come back, even after my new oven arrives. I then went it to order a cake for my sons 7th birthday, and I was actually shocked at how rude the lady was. I just wanted a square cake to look like a simple ninja head. I was told this was "impossible" and that she would only do a cake for 20 + people at more than $100. So I left and made it myself. It wasn't as special, but it was what he wanted. I have since had friends that have gone there for small birthday cakes, so either they have changed their policy or that lady just didn't not want to make me a cake. Picked up a dozen 'Gourmet Cupcakes' using a groupon. First noticed how incredibly small these $3 cupcakes were. Would never pay regular price on that alone. Then took multiple flavors to my office and nobody liked them! Now this group of people will eat anything and nobody was impressed. Don't know how we got this lucky: There are not many great food places in Apple Valley. The Cake Shop is top drawer. Unlike the now out-of-business pastry shop that used to be down the street, The Cake Shop has a great selection of items for walk-in customers. Great pastries, great staff, and great service. We are from San Diego, having our daughters wedding in mammoth lakes, we could not get anyone to make a grooms cake for us, I called the cake shop, talked to Susie, when we told her what we wanted, she said no problem, the whole ordering process was done over the phone, as the cake shop is 3 hours north of San Diego, through a lot of phone calls, and emails, we picked up the cake last Friday, and the cake was fabulous, we took the cake to mammoth, for the party the next night, and the groom loved it. And the cake tasted great, now I wish the wedding cake was that good, the wedding cake was terrible, nobody are it, they all liked the grooms cake better, the wedding cake tasted like you were eating sand, not to mention the wedding cake was a lot more expensive. I'm absolutely addicted to this place. The frosting is unbelievable. I am a cake connoisseur and am hard to please. I am so glad they don't use whip frosting. Any cake with whip cream as frosting belongs in the trash. Smoother it in buttercream frosting. I come here all the time for my cupcake fix. For me it's all about the frosting. It is top notch. The cookie sandwich makes my mouth tingle. So good. And if your going to complain about 3 bucks for a sugar fix, go to Ralphs and get a whip frosted cake for 5.99 then throw it away. And to complain about size? Really? The size is fine. If your looking for supersize, go to McDonald's. If the cupcakes are too small for your big mouth, get a full size cake. If you can't afford a full size yummy hand made cake, you should be talking to your boss about your paycheck and get your fat butt out of the cake shop cause you can't afford a 3 dollar cupcake. A lot of reviews for the Cake Shop have been about the delicious cupcakes they make, but I have to comment on the unbelievable cake the Cake Shop decorated for my husbands 60th birthday. The party was at my daughter's home in Victorville, so I really wanted to find a place near where she lived. We were having a 3 Stooges themed party so I brought in a picture of my husband standing next to a 3 Stooges life size stand-up. It was a fun and crazy picture and when they were finished, the cake looked better than the photo I brought in! Also, they added so much detail, tying in the Stooge collector figures I brought in to put on top of the cake. It was an amazing cake and delicious too. Service is outstanding! Been here several times and ordered just about everything except for a cake and coffee. Some of the cupcakes are AMAZING (moist, true flavor and not overpoweringly sweet) and others are just so-so and more what you'd find at any bakery. The cannolis are really good and better than any of the ones I've had elsewhere in the area. The cinnamon rolls and muffins are super good when they're fresh. Definitely ask when you go in because those just don't taste the same the next day whereas things like cannolis do just find the next day. read more

My son who turned 5 years old had a Willy Wonka and the chocolate Factory party this weekend. I emailed a picture of the cake i wanted for his party and the Cake shop not only duplicated the picture submitted, but also placed their own spin on the cake which looked better than the picture. Got my quinceniera cake here about 2 years ago. We come here everytime we need a birthday cake. It was the most beautiful cake I have ever gotten. My theme was under the sea, so they decorated the cake with sea shells and waves. Everybody loved how pretty it was and got lots of compliments! Also it tasted amazing(chocolate with banana filling)!
