Paola and Miguel are amazing! I provided a few inspirational photos for some donuts for a bridal shower and they knocked it out of the park! They were the most beautiful (and delicious donuts) I have ever seen! And the level of customer service throughout the complete process was fantastic. Would HIGHLY recommend.

Literally every person raved about how beautiful our cake was on the outside and also how delicious it was on the inside! You know the ultimate compliment from an Asian is "not too sweet!" It was perfect!!! We also did a mini dessert bar and the treats were just as beautiful and delicious! Super responsive via email and phone, always accommodating and flexible. Wonderfully creative! Recommend them for any upcoming event!!

Overall I had a great experience ordering from the Cake Shop. I had submitted a quote inquiry on their website and they emailed me with a response within a week. We requested a butter cream cake with a Hello Kitty design (providing inspo pics directly from their Yelp) and 24 cupcakes. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality and effort that is put into the designs. We asked for specific frosting flavors but unfortunately received vanilla frosting for all of the cupcakes, which was not that big of a deal because the cake and cupcakes overall were a big hit with our guests. Would definitely recommend this shop for creative designs and great service!

I recently tried a chocolate cupcake from The Cake Shop in San Mateo at a friend's birthday, and unfortunately I was really disappointed. The cupcake itself was quite dry, and the buttercream had an overwhelming buttery taste rather than the smooth, creamy, silky texture I expected from a professional bakery. There was also very little frosting on top, which made the presentation look unfinished. I'm honestly relieved this wasn't for my son's birthday, because I would have been extremely disappointed. I really wanted to love it, but it just didn't meet the quality I hoped for. read more

Prompt communication by email made it easy to get this cake ordered while dealing with other things (at work!) It was well packed in a sturdy box for transport. This tall cake served twenty easily (I sliced it in two layers), and was an enormous hit with the newly four year old. The adults loved the chocolate cookie "hole" construction site, everyone wanted to know where it was from. The flavor and texture of the chocolate cake was excellent, much much better than a store cake. I had low expectations for the frosting flavor given the decorations and past experience with kid birthday cakes but this was outstanding. Overall a huge hit and well worth the price for what was also the perfect centerpiece for the table. I will happily reorder from this bakery whenever we need an event cake, it was just so easy and so rewarding. read more

I wanted to order a cake from this shop as their designs look amazing. I walked in and spoke to an older gentleman. I had shown him a design to use as a peg/inspiration. He kept on saying this and that could not be done without offering any suggestions. He then tried to convince me to select a different design altogether. What??!? I am willing to pay for a design that I like and consider modifications but this gentleman just didn't seem interested in my business so my husband and I just left. Too bad because my husband works in hospitality and is always looking for small businesses to support and refer to his clients. read more

I reached out about three weeks prior to my son's first bday after finding The Cake Shop on Yelp. Miguel was responsive by email. The whole transaction was seamless. I wanted a very simple baked cake, and they delivered. I sent Pinterest pictures of my theme and color scheme, and Miguel and his team met every expectation. Was really disappointed with the communication and overall first experience with The Cake Shop. A week ago, I submitted an inquiry on their site for a custom cake. Followed all their prompts and requests per their UI, and submitted with no word. Days later after calling to no avail earlier, I got a text message from the shop asking for all the same information already sent/submitted via their own website to a different email. Fine, I did as instructed, no follow-up for another day. Finally, after one more additional day, I get told that they're all booked up. Made no sense to either not to say that in the first place, or not respond to your own website's submission form. Lame, because their cakes are pretty from what's shown - but terrible execution in terms of customer service/communication. read more

I ordered a cake for my daughter's fourth birthday party. She wanted a Peppa Pig themed cake. After scouring Pinterest, I found a couple of sample pictures and emailed them over to Paola and Miguel. They told me that they could make a similar design and I was just BLOWN AWAY when I saw the final product. I literally squealed in excitement when I picked it up. What can I say about cake shop that hasn't been said before! They make your ideas become a reality! We found them on Yelp and ordered their cakes for my baby's first and second birthday! The first birthday was woodland theme and the cake was masterful! Got soooo many compliments on it! For the second birthday this year, we went with baby shark theme since she's been so obsessed and she was so delighted to see her cake. Her eyes lit up and she had the biggest smile! Make sure you know this location is not open! They do not sell treats in store and are open for 3 hours one day a week. Not sure if this is how it is and yelp and Google never updated or if this is new. Bummer, would have liked to try them. Just wanted to make people aware to not waste their time driving to location or expect to pick up single treats. Website stuff only, large quantity only it seems. Sorry to give it one star but I wasted my drive when it says it's open and pictures suggest you can purchase items there. read more

I had ordered a cake for my son's first birthday. I had inquired about pricing online and Paola and Miguel were very prompt to reply within 24 hours. Pricing was very reasonable for their cakes and treats. We ended up ordering a Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood themed 2-tiered cake along with 2 dozen rice krispy treats and chocolate covered pretzels in the same theme. Communication was great and on the day of our event, pickup was a breeze. Our cake turned out great and was exactly what we requested. I needed 250 cupcakes for a company 20th anniversary and The Cake Shop came to through with flying stars. The order was for 1/2 vanilla/vanilla and 1/2 chocolate/chocolate with delivery. The ordering was simple, the owners were very communicative and delivery was on time! Best part the cupcakes not only looked awesome - complete with logo printed in company colors on fondant discs but the cakes tasted great. The buttercream icing was perfect - just the right amount and not too sweet! My staff was thrilled and I earned rave reviews. Now the crust is light, like it's underbaked and lacks that crusty but chewy quality it used to have. Now it's just an underbaked crust. And the crumb structure is really subpar, it's so dense and flat, very underfermented. Super disappointing. Acme and Semi-Fredi's are now my go-tos for sourdough bread. Both have great quality, consistency and taste.

Current prices are $50 for an 8". It's cash only so be prepared. The cake itself is on the light side (not as light as Asian cakes but I wouldn't call it dense either). Unlike some other reviewers that found it dry-- I highly disagree as it was not the most moist cake I've ever tried-- But it wasn't dry either. It was right in between and good enough for us. The Mocha flavor was lightly infused in the frosting and filling. It wasn't super overpowering but it was definitely there. The crunch topping was perfect and so unique. The only other place I've tried a crunch topping is in a latte from Kamurocho in Pleasanton. They have a "Honeycomb Latte" that is amazing. We served half the cake at one gathering and we ended up bringing the leftovers to another gathering. The cake was devoured. Interestingly, we then moved onto eating a chocolate cake from Marvel Cake and the chocolate was able to balance out the sweetness and cleansed our pallet a bit. We all felt that a cup of coffee would be perfect with this cake. The cake inside could also be a bit more moist. So all in all, the crunch got the thumbs up but the overall cake not so much.

Super funny that the couple behind me commented that they go here all the time and there's never a line. After about a 40 minute wait, I got to the cashier at around 10:20am. Didn't need to add sugar. It didn't come super hot though so as I took it away, I downed it pretty fast! I got my mom and aunt the ice latte version of the black sesame and the brown sugar. Sounds like both were good as well. The black sesame wasn't sweet, which was to my aunt's liking. Inside, it's very clean and not crowded. What helped is that there is a sign that tells the people in line that only 6 people at a time should line up inside. If I have the time, I'd line back up. 4.5/5 stars, but I'll round up.

There was a line out the door on a Sunday morning when I went at 9:30 AM. Lots of bar seating.

I ordered the 4-inch cake with a marble design, matcha cake, strawberry cream, and strawberries. One thing to note is that if you order the 4-inch cake, there wasn't a section to add custom text. You'll need to email or call them with your order number to let them know what you want written on the cake. Overall, the highlight of the cake was definitely the cake itself. The moisture and strong matcha flavor really stood out and were my favorite parts. If I were to order from this bakery again, I'd probably try a different filling and cream because the buttercream just wasn't for me, but that's more of a personal preference.

Maison Alyzée is a French fine pastry bakery café located on downtown Burlingame's main strip. Dedicated to providing customers with a Parisian escape through handcrafted elegant pastries and artisanal breads, the bake shoppe doubles as pâtisserie and boulangerie, priding itself on meticulous attention to detail. Upon entry, we were welcomed by a brightly lit and very clean venue. Ray and I were immediately drawn to the beautiful marble-topped white counter that encased a gorgeous variety of exquisite treats. The commitment to the elegance of French culture and modern creativity were evident in every luxurious pastry and cake on display. Maison Alyzée is an order-at-the-counter establishment, so we made our purchase with a friendly staff member at the register. Unfortunately, we were told that espresso drinks were no longer available that night since the staff had already begun cleaning the machines. Ok....I never understand businesses that start shutting down things before closing time. This just shows customers that team convenience of closing shop quickly takes precedence over customer experience, essentially omitting availability of items from the menu while they are still open. For this reason, I am docking a star. Luckily, they still had some cold brew available, so I ordered a Lavender Cold Brew with oat milk. Heads-up: Plant-based milks like almond and oat milk incur a $0.75 surcharge. I wish that the lavender was more like a simple syrup, so that the flavour was sweeter and less sharp. The response was "It's in the oven" was delivered rudely, as though my simple question was an inconvenience. Even when a café is busy, basic courtesy and communication should not be optional. Good food deserves to be matched by good hospitality.

If I could give The Cake Shop 10 stars I would. The were very accommodating and were able to complete a wonderful creative last minute birthday cake in even though they were swamped. Everybody loved the themed capoeira themed cake nt only because of the creativity but because the vanilla cake was so light and fluffy and the blueberry filling was not overwhelming but perfect. I will be referring everyone I know to The Cake Shop and I will also be having them create several more cakes for upcoming events. Go to The Cake Shop! YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!! read more
