I am absolutely in love with Schubert's princess cake. This may explain why the princess cake at the Cakery has often been hailed as very similar to the one from Schubert's. Even though the Cakery has changed hands. They still offer memorably delicious cakes. I couldn't resist a slice of strawberry cream cake for lunch which was moist and light and ohh sooo good. Picked up a princess cake to enjoy with family and friends tonight. The verdict, while similar, I still prefer the Schubert's princess cake for its lightness and less sweet finish. Schubert's princess cake also has a more predominant almond flavor. Both memorably delicious. In fact, the consensus over the dinner table amongst friends and family was deeeelicious! And my cousin, who's the most important critique says I can bring the princess cake from either place over anytime! Would definitely return for either cake or to try the double chocolate cake which is Rosa's recommendation or coffee crunch cake that Mike C. recommended for next time. This place is nestled between popular cafe/bakeries, but in terms of food, I liked this place better! And there's no line. SMOKED SALMON ON CROISSANT - so good!! Their croissant is buttery and soft, and with a generous amount of salmon neatly packed in together. I kind of wish there was a sauce on the side to go with it. Bestie had the turkey wrap. He liked it but my salmon croissant was superior. Also the CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT CAKE (not the official name aha) this was so good! Dense and nutty with rich hazelnut and chocolate flavor. Five stars for their princess cake. I've gone only to get slices of their princess cake. Two stars for the service. The last time I went (Sunday after the farmer's market), the girl acted like I was bothering her...despite the place being absolutely empty. I asked her for a slice of the princess cake, which she proceeded to box up and shove across the counter before walking back to me at the register and ringing me up after a curt "Anything else?" I mean...I know it's not a big deal to walk a few steps to grab the box, but I just felt really uncomfortable with her entire demeanor -- all that was missing was an eyeroll. Every other bakery I've gone to would actually bring it over to the counter where I was standing (the register, in this case). Plus, she was back on her laptop even before I retrieved the box. Honestly, I'd happily go back every week for a slice of the cake, but that girl's attitude was really off-putting and made me feel unwelcome. Guess my money isn't good enough here. March is a busy month of friends and family members' birthdays. Appreciate a bakery dedicated to cakes. The Cakery is a small cake shop on Burlingame Ave in Burlingame. Parking is on the street. No dining areas but of course, there are benches along Burlingame Ave. Sometimes it's just nice to get a sample of cake slices versus a whole cake to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed the vegan mango tarts, marjolaine cake, and dark chocolate mouse cake. The vegan mango treats came as two pieces and were so good if you prefer a fruity sweet treat. The marjolaine cake seemed dry to our taste. While the dark chocolate mouse cake was heavenly to taste as it was so light in sponge but gave you a good sample of dark chocolate that wasn't rich but just right in texture and smoothness. Very sweet staff and a super cute bakery in a busy shopping area of Burlingame. They were very accommodating when I needed to change the pickup time for my cake, and they even provided a candle and a happy birthday sign. The coffee crunch cake was delicious, but it's a cake you have to special order at least two days in advance! It's huge and heavy so be careful when transporting it! All of us were completely floored at how amazing the cake turned out that I can over look the typo in Congratulations. The cake turned out even better than I imagined as I only supplied pictures of the image I wanted to be on the cake, thinking they would just put the double happiness kanji outlined in gold icing. As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise surprise surprise!" That was my reaction when my coworker came to the office on the last Saturday in August when she handed me a white paper box. I brought it home and shared it with my family. This was my first time ordering a custom cake from The Cakery and I'm pretty satisfied! I placed my order about a week in advance. I provided photos of what I wanted the cake to look like inside and out -- my expectations were definitely met. The cake was a bit pricey considering it was small, but it was worth it. I would've given five stars, however, we agreed that the pick up time would be at 3pm, but it wasn't ready until about 4:15pm. I wasn't notified about the delay until about 2:40pm, when I was already on my way there. I do understand that things can get backed up, most especially on weekends. Planning for a birthday party, Mike C. offered to bring the cake for the birthday celebrant. I was looking forward to tasting this cake, as he finds great delicious eats from his culinary adventures. He brought the cake out after dinner and it was Coffee Crunch Cake from The Cakery. First thing you notice was all the coffee crunch candy on the outside. I tried a slice and the three layers of vanilla sponge cake was moist from the light coffee syrup and layered with whipped cream. The coffee crunch candy provided a nice texture contrast with each bite, though I found the candy to be a little on the sweet side. The princess cake wasn't available so we sadly didn't get to try that, but the mousse cake was amazing flavor! The Oreo cupcake frosting was very delicious but both cupcakes were just okay. You could tell they were fresh and the bottoms of the cookies had a dusting of flour on them. The store has a variety of cakes, pastries and bread. Festive 4th of July decorated cookies were wrapped up ready for the holiday, chocolate and regular macaroons, assorted cookies wrapped in boxes, etc. We mainly come here for just the Mango Mousse Cake because it's been a family favorite for years. It's a refined, pretty cake with a glazed decoration topped with fruits and a gold ribbon wrapped around it vs. just a standard cake topped with chunks of Mangoes like at Red Ribbon. It's perfect after a heavy meal. My good friend used to live a few blocks away and used to know the baker/owner. She told me it's changed ownership. As much as I wanted to give a good rating for the taste of the custom cake I ordered, the experience just doesn't allow me to. I ordered a custom black buttercream chocolate cake for my husband's milestone birthday and guess what - our hands, mouth, teeth everything turned black. I have ordered vibrant colored buttercream cakes a lot and have never seen this. Paying $295 for a custom cake, the least I would/should expect is a good experience. On reaching out the next morning since no one could eat the cake without staining their teeth, the response I got was just not acceptable. I was told it my fault to choose a dark color because dark buttercream cakes end up staining (which is incorrect) minor staining is acceptable but we washed our hands multiple times to get rid of the color but our hands were the same. (Added picture for reference) The Cakery didn't take any ownership and put the blame on me. If their cakes end up staining, I would love that guidance before I placed the order and would have ordered differently. I was also told that people don't really care about the taste or staining with a custom cake as they only care about the aesthetics. I have to disagree on that as the premium price I'm paying should be justified. Well, all in all 2/5 rating from me. I would've given a 1/5 but the extra point for the taste. I used to come here a lot when I worked nearby. This is a great bakery both for cakes and pastries. Their Princess cake is really good, super moist good. Their vanilla eclair here is mouthwatering. What sets Cakery apart from the other bakeries nearby is that they have a good selection of ready made cakes for last minute birthdays and anniversary, but you can also buy regular pastries here like their danish rings (serving for 4-6) which is delicious. I've been buying my Sweetheart's Valentine's goodies here for years. It's all wrapped up and ready to go. There are a couple of tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your sweet cravings, while you sip and enjoy your hot chocolate or cappuccino. Service here have always been quick and efficient. I was already across the street getting his gift from Topper, and after getting it wrapped at Papyrus, I called The Cakery to find out if they had carrot cake. They said they only had cupcakes; I figured cupcakes were better than no cake! The employees were super nice and the one who answered my phone call remembered the call and helped me. My colleague sent me some cupcakes and other desert treats using DoorDash for my birthday. Immediately, I had a new addiction and ever since then, I have been ordering all kinds of goodies from The Cakery nearly every week (its a horrible addiction for the wallet, really). In searching for where to get our wedding cake from, there were a few criteria that needed to be met: * Baker who could create a cake that represented us; * Memorable tasty creation; * Budget that was within reason. We were lucky in that the first bakery we tried, The Cakery, provided all these things. Before our meeting, we were asked to come up with four different potential cake combinations. At our tasting, mini cakes of our possibilities were made for tasting and discussion. The care and time put in by the staff told us right away we had found our place, but did try other bakeries, just in case. In the end, The Cakery helped designed three different cake flavors for our wedding cake: 1. Top cake = white cake + passion fruit 2. Middle cake = chocolate cake + mocha + Amaretto (with Kirsch) 3. Bottom cake = Devil's cake + chocolate truffle + Kirsch Like many others, our wedding was a multiple postponed COVID event that finally happened after the third try. The Cakery continued to stay in contact and flexible with the fluid situation. As time went on, how we envisioned our cake to be also changed, and are thankful of The Cakery embracing changes. The cake was a success - beautiful, represented us, and was delicious. At the end of the evening, we asked if there was any leftover. The staff let us know none was left because guests wanted seconds (or more)! Wow...! A year later, for our anniversary, we asked if The Cakery could recreate the cake so we could have a piece of our wedding on our anniversary. Sed was fantastic in that The Cakery team listened to what we wanted and was able to create all three cake flavors into one.
