Super sweet! I've visited a few times and my favorite is the regular brownie. It's rich and good, and warning: it is SO sweet. Sweeter than your average brownie. This is my honest review of my experience ordering a carrot cake from Busy Lizzy's. I ordered an 8-inch carrot cake for a friend based on the beautiful photos on the website, as carrot cake is her favorite. I wasn't able to schedule the pickup time online, so I followed up via email after placing the order to let them know that I was going to pick it up in a few weeks. When I didn't hear back after a couple days, I had to call just to make sure that the pickup date and time was received. I also ended up receiving a response to my initial email, but it was quite delayed and a few days before the pickup date anyways. On the pickup day, my friend had to pick it up in the store and the staff working at the time showed her the cake and my friend confirmed it was fine. However, once she brought it back, I noticed the cake looked very different from what was advertised online. The photos showed a cake with texture, pearls, and flowers, while the cake we received was decorated with carrots. While the carrots were cute, it wasn't what I had expected and didn't match the theme we had planned for her party, which was disappointing. I emailed Busy Lizzy's afterward to share my concerns but didn't receive a response. After 2 weeks, I followed up and was told my original email had gone to spam. Lizzy responded explaining that flowers are an extra charge (as noted on the website), that my friend had approved the cake at pickup, and that the carrots were added so the cake wouldn't be plain. I can say I am totally at fault for not reading correctly that flowers are an extra fee. That said, I do wish I had been contacted before the carrots were added. If I had been asked, I would have opted for a plain cake or clarified the design details ahead of time. I didn't appreciate that she assumed I wouldn't want a plain cake. The image also showed pearls, which isn't currently specified as an extra charge on the website, which we didn't receive. The cake itself tasted fine, moist and light, but it was pretty expensive for $64. Overall, the experience and communication was not the best after needing to follow up via email multiple times. I do see now that you are able to schedule the pickup date on their website, which is a nice improvement. This was my first experience here, and unfortunately I don't think I'll be back. read more

The very first time we tried to come here, it was on full display, going from absolutely singing their praises as we walked here to then cursing them for being closed for the day and depriving him of his beloved cookies. The second time we came here? Absolutely giddy as he clutched his bag of cookies (the man is a sugar fiend). Which, I must say, only made me that much more excited to check them out for myself! Almost as soon as you step inside, you're immediately greeted by their wide assortment of baked goodies (and the workers). From their cookies, brownies, and bars to their cakes, loaves, and cupcakes, everything looks so delectable laid out on their counter. What's more, each of the handful of times I've been here, the exact lineup of each day's offerings has always been different. Along with their set of signature staples, such as their Coffee Cake, Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, Snickerdoodles, Cookies N Cream Cookies, Cinnamon Bread Pudding, and S'mores Bars, each day's menu will also feature a number of seasonal treats, rotating flavors, and items offered only for a limited time. -- BROWNED BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE This was the thing I was most excited to try and it didn't disappoint! Although the bottom was a little dry, the lemon had a nice tartness that was nicely balanced by the sweetness of the icing. Plus, the shaved almonds added a nice crunch, too! -- CINNAMON BREAD PUDDING Bread pudding can be a little hit or miss for me, but this one was pretty solid. I especially liked the cinnamon flavor in this, which is more unique than the ones I've had before. The texture was a little "gloppier" than I like, but that's more preference than flaw (this is my buddy's favorite bread pudding anywhere). -- BANANA BREAD I'm always on the lookout for a good banana bread and this is a pretty good banana bread. Other than along some of the edges, this was so moist! What I liked most, though, was how it had a strong taste of banana even despite the fairly generous amount of chocolate chips in it. Not to get too cheesy, but almost just as sweet as all of Busy Lizzy's delectable treats is their staff. Each time I've been here, every worker I've talked to has been uber friendly and nice. They were more than happy to let me pick their brains for recommendations and it was pretty cool how they even recognized regulars who stopped in. As far as their prices go, yes, as others have already mentioned, they are a little higher than average, but what you get for your money is decidedly better than average, so you're still getting a fair bang for your buck. Love the snickerdoodle cookie from Busy Lizzy's! I've also tried the cookies & cream cookie which is good but I like the snickerdoodle the most. I love cookies with dense chewy centers and this one meets that criteria. In addition to cookies, they also sell bars and loaves. The main thing that prevents me from making Busy Lizzy's a regular habit is the price. I paid $4.75 (before taxes) for one single cookie which is very pricey. Too expensive in my opinion. The shop is located in downtown Burlingame and parking can be hit or miss. It's a grab-and-go spot so there is no seating available. The interior is modern and clean. After finishing a celebratory dinner, a friend forewarned me about a gift that she placed in my car trunk. After a long day of tasks, errands, and making sure everything at home was in place before our celebratory event of a dinner, I was exhausted and stuffed when I got home a little before 10 pm. My son loves to pick a different flavor cookie every time. The brownies and cookies are not overly sweet and you can taste they're made with good quality ingredients. Busy Lizzy Bakery delivers with a few vegan friendly treats and I am here for the ride. My friend shared a few in a mini gift box with three vegan friendly baked items and it wasn't bad. I tried their peanut butter date bites and their coconut energy balls. Loved the use of dates as a sweetener and as a peanut butter lover, these were fire. There was also a sea salt blondie that was definitely on the saltier side and I found these to just be okay. Although I love that there were vegan options, you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking online. I ordered a half dozen box of cookies, which comes in a box usually tied with the complimentary twine. I had asked the associate Elisabeth if we can have them individually wrapped in the cellophane bags she said in a rude tone that, "you know you need to call days prior to have that done, you can't just have it done the same day. I am behind on other work and orders. I had asked to have them wrapped in the cellophane bags, because I noticed she was putting each cookie in a white cookie slip bag which is not routine anytime I've ordered from Busy Lizzy's. She had said that the boxes for the half dozen cookies were not available due to slow shipment etc, which I totally understood but it would have been kind to communicate that prior. So I was trying to come up with a solution myself ....being that these cookies were going to be a birthday gift for someone. I always enjoy the full experience Busy Lizzy gives with the nice gifting, and completely understand delayed shipment. She instead threw each cookie in one of the regular white slip cookie bags and that's how she was going to proceed to give it to me. Because of the scenario that just wasn't going to work for me. So I had asked can I see the other box you have, and she responded "it's not going to work, it's way too big". Being in customer service previously, you always want to try and find a solution and make it work someway somehow. That was not the case. So I proceeded with the suggestion and had said please do put the cookies in that box and that will work perfectly fine. She left the cookies in the cookie bag slip, threw them all in the box and handed them to me. I had to remind her and let her kindly know to please add the twine. I've always received twine on each box I've ever ordered. She had added it and I proceeded go on with my day, but very unfortunate to walk in happy and walk out disappointed in the customer service provided on Thursday, February 5th around 1:20ish. I am quite understanding and understand bumps in the road, but let's try and be more adaptable and be okay with pivoting when things aren't going as planned as they never do. read more

Man, I was super excited to hear about another baked goods shop near home. I really wanted to like Busy Lizzy's but after stopping by here and trying their pastries, it was quite a disappointment! First off, upon arriving and looking at the pastries, it was very obvious the pieces were all unequal sizes. For a fixed price, you would expect the sizes to be close to each other but it was almost like comparing a newborn baby's hand to an older child's hand. I love chocolate chip cookies and had tried many of the pastries shop in the Bay Area including B Patisserie (known as the best chocolate chip cookie in CA), Cookiez by Sara, Backhaus, Jane on Larkin, and many out of state including NYC's famous Levain. Even with a craving for chocolate chip cookie, Busy Lizzy's could not satisfy my tastebuds! The chocolate chip cookie tasted like an inexperienced baker's first time baking with barely any flavor and random pieces of larger chocolate chips in the center. It did not have the perfect crispy layer with chewy texture. Tasted like an old cookie. It was not even comparable to the shelve cookies sold at Costco or Safeway. The Oreo and cream had a bit more flavor but the middle tasted like dough. The so-called best brownies was far from the best brownies. It was worst than the box ones you could buy at Safeway to bake at home. Even my own brownies tasted better than the dried one I bought from here. Lastly, the random specialty bar with everything on top was probably one of the worst sweet pastries I had. It was like biting into sugar and eating a large graham cookie that was overbearingly sweet and hard. It actually made my teeth uncomfortable. Then, the young girl charged my husband wrong and he almost paid $28 for the four items. She "corrected"herself so the bill was $24. So not worth $24 bucks for two cookies and two pastries (one brownie and one specialty bar). The total price we got charged including taxes did not even match the prices they listed. We were quite disappointed with the pastries. Now I wonder how they ended up with 4.5 Yelp stars... we felt deceived. This was also just a pastry shop for pick up only.
