Smash Burger Lunch
John D.

Every single dish could've used some salt and some fat (like butter). In other words, all the food was bland and lacked flavor. Smash Burger was not smashed. The patty itself was chunky like a normal burger. It was fairly plain. The chips were unseasoned too. The breakfast sandwich had a generous amount of cheese, bacon, and eggs. I asked for hash browns on the side. I normally love a good breakfast sandwich, but this was fairly bland too. The side of mayo helped a little The chicken gumbo bowl was bland as well. Added some hot sauce and salt, but still didn't care for it. People at the counter were generally friendly. The space seemed fairly clean.

Stopped by over the weekend to pick up a small 'thank you' for a relative. I decided to get the 2lb Sourdough since the employee said it was their most popular. I also picked up a Chocolate Chip Cookie for myself as a treat. Store is very clean and there's tables and chairs to sit and eat if you decide to order food off their menu. The pastry case was fully stocked on a Saturday late morning. Service was friendly and helpful, and the menu is easy to read. Only thing I wish there was a section where you could see what each bread type was. I'm a visual person and don't know my breads very well so it would've been helpful to see what is what. Other than that, I'd definitely come back to pick up some bread for myself, and maybe even try something off their food menu! This shop is also located in a fairly large plaza with tons of parking to be shared with other businesses. I'm not sure why other reviews say that the shopping center is busy with little parking - maybe I just came at a good time?

Unmatched bakehouse! Cookies are a delicacy here! Huge size. Great lemonade. A little bummed my husband didn't bring me sourdough, but stay tuned for that update. Great service and cute shop! Grab a box of cookies, the newspaper style wax paper makes them look extra presentable. We will be back!

Stopped by on a Saturday and found this bakery located in a busy shopping center with a chaotic parking lot. Although customer service was friendly, when I asked about the ingredients of the bread, she didn't quite know. They had a variety of bread displayed that looked freshly baked. Sourdough comes 2lb ($12) and 3lb ($14) loaves. We bought the 3lb loaf sliced. I noticed they also sold sandwiches, but the hot sandwiches starting at$19 seemed a bit high. I'll try the bread first before I invest in the sandwich. The sourdough loaf had a great crust. The center was not light and airy, but more of a soft dense bread with smaller holes, with a slight tangy taste. The bread toasted is pretty good. Not quite my favorite sourdough bread, it was great to try.

Update: They also sell wholesale pies, pastries (croissants, cookies, danishes, muffins and more) and all kinds of artisan baked breads to local cafes, businesses and restaurants within roughly a 1-10 mile radius! Reach out to Alan for more information. I recently had the pleasure of visiting California Bakehouse, and I can confidently say it's a gem in Artesia! Chef Alan, a James Beard award and Michelin star award nominee, brings incredible talent to this no-fuss café, where every bite and conversation reflects passion and quality. The standout for me was the sliced pastrami sandwich--it's cooked in house and hand sliced! They also offer an impressive variety of freshly baked breads, cookies, pastries and pies that are perfect for taking home. What truly sets California Bakehouse apart is their genuine commitment to community. Their mission to support those in need, particularly the homeless and hungry, speaks volumes about their faith and values. It's refreshing to see a small business not only focused on great food but also on making a positive impact. With an honest work ethic and a welcoming atmosphere -- If you're in the area, don't miss out on this hidden gem!

Cute spot for some fresh baked bread & the staff is so friendly and welcoming! They offer not only a variety of fresh breads but breakfast and lunch options too! They do close early so early bird catches the worm with this place, and parking can be a pain depending on when you come. Overall love the place and will definitely be back.

Beef dip

This place is delicious!! My friend recommended and i knew it was a good sign when i saw a bunch of bread in the window. The girl who helped us was very welcoming and answered our questions. The owner (?) was hilarious!! I got the beef dip (a tiny bit too salty) and it came with POT ROAST AU JUS which was incredible! The whole sandwich was amazing. My friend got breakfast and she really liked it too. Got one of their 1 lb loaves to go and i ate that thing so fast. It was very soft. Its a smaller place but enough parking. Kinda diner decor. No bathrooms. Cant wait to go back!!!

Tasty treats I get a different one each visit and the 2lb sourdough never disappoints. Great customer service food is served almost instantly

What a a cute little bakery! I love a good sweet treat. I was happy to find this bakery online when searching for cookies. It's in a shopping center right next to Stater Bros. When you step inside it smells like fresh pastries. I only had a few minutes to grab a cookies but everything looks delicious. There bistro like tables inside and you can see the baked goods in the front outside window. The staff were friendly and helped me make my cookie selection. I stuck with a traditional chocolate chip cookie. It was fresh, moist and crisp but had a lot of chocolate. Not a bad thing but fair warning there's lots of chocolate chips. I would like to go back and try a sandwich and another cookie too!

Oatmeal Raisin cookie- chewy and buttery, delicious

That is the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. It was filled with straight up chunks of tri tip, was filling and insanely delicious I can say the same for the cherry cobbler pie. The crumble crust was delicious, buttery and crunchy, and the cherries were tart and delicious. Can't wait to try more!

We were looking for a GOOD pastrami sandwich and came by here to check out the baked goods first Their menu board said 'pastrami! All day. Asked the chef where the pastrami came from and was pleasantly surprised to hear that he makes his own pastrami. Gave us a sample and we were sold! Ordered the Ruben sandwich and it was delicious and plentiful! Sandwich was not too salty, which I really appreciated. The hand cooked chips were crispy and tasty. The sandwich was EXCELLENT, and a little thousand island dressing would've put it over the top. Entire staff was friendly and helpful. Great experience. Would come back

Steak and eggs they say
J S.

For a bread bakery I wish this place would serve more than sour dough breads. However, their sourdough is really good. Soft on the inside with crispy crust. Stays soft for days. For breakfast I wouldn't suggest the steak and eggs. Cause what we got did not look or taste like steak. It was shaved and very thin. Lacked flavor and dry

Smashed burger with provolone cheese in brioche bun, and French fries. Delicious!

Yes

What are the ingredients in the sourdough bread?

Sourdough is bread made from naturally occurring yeast and lactic acid bacteria that are naturally present in flour, rather than using baker's yeast, to leaven the dough. In traditional sourdough recipes, you'll find three ingredients: sourdough…

I can't have them from anywhere else because these hit the spot so hard that no one can compete. I personally have not tried anything else, but my kids have enjoyed other treats from this place. They are located in Cerritos at a very busy shopping plaza and there's plenty of parking. I didn't expect the bakery to be an actual restaurant. There was a good crowd, sitting at tables and eating and drinking. They have about a dozen different flavors of macaroons. You can't go wrong with any of them, but my top favorite are the Birthday, Fruity Pebble, Horchata, Cappuccino and Ferrero Rocher. They make nice gifts too, as they can put it in a treat box in an ice brown paper bag. I definitely need to come back and try their drinks and something else from their menu.

I visited a while ago, and back then the prices seemed quite steep for the amount of food that we received. There's quite a large seating area, and a large parking lot - though this plaza can get very crowded on the weekends.

Revisit? Definitely. Great for weekend breakfast…read more Sunrise Cafe never disappoints. It's just what a casual diner should be: delicious, generous with the portions, and efficient. I usually order the Popeye Omelet with home fries and toast. Everything is seasoned well and the ingredients taste fresh. Other things I've tried include the Chilaquiles, French Dip, Kids Scrambled Egg Breakfast with French Toast, and Posole. Everything is classic and reliably good. You'll think, wow, I'll probably need a box to-go, but somehow you'll eat it all in one sitting! Sometimes you have to write your name down at the check-in stand out front in order to get a table. But I've never had to wait too long. The servers really pay attention to anything you might need without rushing you or asking lots of questions. So I think that's how they keep the wait time short. The vibes here are just 10/10 for a family breakfast. Our toddler likes watching the model train that circles the upper windows of the restaurant. It's busy so there's lots of pleasant background noise. You can watch the traffic go by on Lakewood Blvd. Prices aren't too steep. I've ordered takeout and delivery from here as well and never had any complaints. Parking can be hard to find in the lot right next to the restaurant but can usually be found right away in the back lot. Overall, just a nice neighborhood spot to eat.

I really enjoyed their Mexican dishes but preferred the breakfast menu overall. The hobo omelet and breakfast potatoes had great flavor. However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing, tasting like store-bought biscuits and canned gravy--probably from Costco or Sam's Club. Coffee was very good, but I wish someone would walk around constantly refilling cups. Overall, a decent spot with some room for improvement.
