Stopped here for their Valentines Day dinner. It was a train wreck from the start. We had reservations for their Valentine's Day menu meal. Reservations for 7. We got their at 7. and they had to "clean off some tables." That woman disappeared for ten minutes, then sat a group in front of us. I had about had it but but my lip and we were sat. Then we had three waitresses wait on us and struggle with our drink order before we got our final waitress who was a nice younger girl. That was about the nicest part of the outing. My crown and diet was watered down by the time it got to me. Yikes. I ordered a French onion soup to start. It looked good with the bread and melted cheese - but it was basically just cooked onions with no broth at all. Yikes again. For my meal I got the New York strip with peppercorn sauce and baked potato with veg. Well... the steak WAS NOT a strip steak - it was more like a ribeye. It wasn't cooked medium as I asked - it was a medium rare then rare then purple finish. The broccoli I received must have previously been located next to power lines - bc the vegetation on the stalks were trimmed off, and the peppercorn sauce was more like yogurt and flavorless with pepper sprinkled on top. Oh and the baked potato? It was a HALF that was plated in a way to seem like that was by design. Yikes. I'm usually able to suck it up, but if I'm paying $80 you have to bat at least 2/4. They went 0/4 and the bay never got off their shoulders. Won't be back. Sorry. read more

The service was extremely slow, took over two hours for 4 adults to dine. Crab Au Gratin appetizer was just a half of a bagel cut up with melted cheese on it, we were unable to find crab. For $12 , 6 small pieces of bagel was a disappointment. Bloody Mary's were very good and flavorful. My steak that was ordered medium was tough and small. The group agreed that overall the wait time from beginning to end was way too long and the food was mediocre at best. We were served a free glass of champagne by characters from a play at a local theatre. It was confusing for customers that didn't know what was happening. read more

Cozy casual dining - the best in the area. Had some cocktails at the bar, the bartender knows how to make a very good drink! The crab cakes were very good. Took the wife and daughter for Dinner and it was awesome. I had the Cordon bleu and it was excellent. Daughter had the filet special and she said it was perfectly prepared as she likes hers medium +. The Candlewyck Inn is a beautiful quaint little restaurant in a historic house right in the heart of Keyser. The décor is very nice. The menu is very limited especially for a couple of vegetarians but it changes on a regular basis as decided by the chef. The highlights of the meal were the fried green tomatoes and gourmet cupcakes. I almost passed on dessert but I was intrigued by the sound of the "bee sting" cupcake. I am sure the name is an American corruption of an Eastern European phase but the cream icing and pecans were in the moist cake was spectacular. read more

Nothing to brag about but good service and okay food. Loud-mouthed cook in the kitchen fussing about nearly everything. Cannot imagine how he keeps his job; must be sleeping with the lady out front. Great drinks! Bartender does a great job of replicating cocktails you don't know the name of. Girlfriend asked for and received her fruity painkiller on the first try and it was so good, she had another. Portions were adequate for a hungry athlete but I couldn't finish mine so asked for a box. Shrimp was slightly overcooked but crab stuffing was terrific. Vegetables were done very well. I was in town for work so my boss took us here one night for dinner. I ordered one of their specials which was the salmon with garlic butter sauce, vegetables, and a baked potato. The meal also comes with a house salad which is your basic mixed greens with cucumber and tomato. My salmon was a little over cooked, but we had asked the kitchen to hold our food as we had to take a meeting in another room so I can't blame the kitchen for that. I was surprised to see that the salmon was made with the skin on it, but the skin was nice and crunchy so I didn't mind. I found the garlic and butter sauce to be really salty so I ate more of my baked potato than my salmon. The garlic bread was super crispy, but kind of made it hard to eat. The inside is decorated very cute and has an old, homey feel to it. I would still visit this place again as they have a full bar and would give this restaurant another chance. read more

So it was not our intention to go here, as the original mark happened to closed..on a Saturday. The food was satisfactory and the renovated Victorian was cute, but the prices just didn't warrant the food experience. Something must've happened to my meal as it so incredibly delayed to that of my guests. Waiter was a hoot, but severely disappointed and surprised that no accommodation was made for being forced to wait 45 minutes for fish (vegetables were burnt so I'm assuming that's what happened to my fish). They were moderately busy but no one else seemed to be having a delay or something they had to send back. Given the area, this is probably considered fine dining, however, if your standards have been shaped by Michelin rated restaurants, I wouldn't bother. This place was amazing! A hidden gem for sure! We were in Keyser for a few days and decided to go out for a bite to eat! If you've ever been, you know there's really not much around! Found this place online and decided to give it a try! So glad we did! We started with the baked Brie appetizer! It was wonderful! The apples and candied nuts complemented each other perfectly! I also had a bowl of French onion soup. Delicious! A great ratio of broth to onion and not too salty! For our entrees, hubby had the salmon salad and I had the filet. I have to say this was among the beat I've ever had! Melted in my mouth! And his salmon was wonderful, too - because I sampled that! I didn't have dessert there, but I did get some to go! The service was slow but it seems as if they were under staffed some, Our food took a little while to come out but everything was okay, my pasta was slightly undercooked and my dads meatloaf was just warm and not hot. The desserts though were to die for and were amazing. The bathroom is very small and the chairs are uncomfortable after sitting for awhile. read more

I attended a private event there last night. No snags, no hiccups, just a good time! Two separate beverage stations for wine and beer (very convenient) along with access to the bartender for hand crafted cocktails. The buffet was quite impressive with chicken, salmon, and steak + lots of sides. Although I usually find salmon to be a somewhat risky choice in a non-seafood restaurant, it was the tastiest I have enjoyed in a long while. No fishy taste in the fish, (if you know what I mean.) The steak was tender and extra special with the mushrooms. I have enjoyed lunch there in the past, but this was my first dinner. If you are passing through Keyser, do not pass this place up! Also, I would be remiss if I didn't compliment the Baker for the awesome cupcakes! As much as I wanted to dive in, I delighted a five year old instead. read more

We stopped in for a late dinner. Parking is limited and very "tight." We walked in and there was no host, just a sign that said, "Wait to be seated." We waited for several minutes before someone finally came out of the bar area to seat us. He was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, which did not fit with the dining "atmosphere." The table was on the porch area, and was covered with a nice table cloth & had a cloth napkin around the silverware. Our server was prompt and friendly. Meals are quite "pricy" for the area. We both ordered the NY Strip. It took a while to get our salads; however, the portion was large and ingredients fresh. The salad dressing came in a tiny plastic cup and really wasn't sufficient. Our steaks arrived and to my surprise and delight were cooked perfectly. The meat was tender and tasted really good. The rice had an odd taste, almost a sour taste. The fries were good, but like the dressing, the ketchup was in a tiny plastic cup, and not enough for all the fries. Overall, a pleasant dining experience. read more

The Candlewyck Inn was always our "go to" place to eat when in the Keyser area. It is a bit run down, but the atmosphere has the charm of faded elegance and the food is always good. Also, there are not many options in the area. We dined there Saturday evening. We had been working on a garage cleanup project all day at our weekend home. We had to rush to make it to Goodwill before the cutoff time for drop offs. We did not have time to get change out of our jeans. We didn't look terrible, just casual. Four nicely dressed people (wearing dresses and dinner jackets) came in AFTER us and were seated at an adjacent table. They were ordering drinks with a splash of this and a twist of that. You get the picture. The server took our order. We ordered an appetizer and salads to go along with an entree we were splitting. You get the picture. The server went over to the other table directly after taking our order and proceeded to take the orders of the four people beside us. So for starters, our order was delayed in being sent to the kitchen. We waited and waited at our table. I had an empty glass and my husband had not even been served the Coke he had ordered. Nothing came out. No salad, no bread, no appetizer, no Coke, no refill. I looked over at the table beside us and all of their glasses were filled to the top, they were enjoying their salads AND entrees. After some time, our salads came out and then our appetizer. I had to ask for a refill and remind her to bring my husband's beverage. Finally, the entree made it to the table. The food (when we finally got it) was fine, but the service was the worst. The overall experience was disappointing, infuriating and took an inordinate amount of time. We were exhausted from the day's work and still had to check in on my elderly Mother. The server had no consideration for us or our time. We were definitely discriminated against and will not be returning. read more

We really like The Candlewyck. The food is creative and delicious and the servers are always very pleasant and helpful as well as attentive. The owner Fred usually comes out to talk to us and is always willing to make the meal special. Desserts are amazing and special buffets are pretty neat too. read more

Years ago I had lunch there with a large group and thought the food was OK, certainly not bad, but nothing to rave about. Standard lunch fare. However, we have had three recent evening meals there over the past few months that have been just terrific. Our meal this evening was perfection, the appetizer (eggplant fries), dinners ( seafood creole and French Onion Soup Chicken), and dessert ( a lemon berry cake ) were all exceptional. The deep fried deviled eggs with bacon on special this weekend were fantastic. They should find a place on the regular menu. We both had the shrimp and vegetables over wild rice. So wonderfully fresh and prepared very well. W finished the meal with their famous cupcakes. The peanut butter one was delicious, but the vanilla beesting cupcake was even better. Wine list could use some work, and buying the only French red by the glass turned out to be a mistake as it arrived quite warm; beer arrived in its bottle, decently chilled and not frigid. Our party enjoyed every dish, and the total cost was very reasonable. The room is mid-renovation, and the owners would be well advised to hire someone who knows about older buildings and period decor (as this place is an historic building); now heading into mis-matched directions. First visit. Really cool place. Great atmosphere and service. My dinner was a solid B+ in terms of quality and quantity for the price. I had the stuffed chicken breast and would definitely order it again. The person waiting on me was very attentive and on top of things. Down side: they were out of my beer (Blue Moon) and drink (Rum Chata) selections, but the bar tender went out of her way to make a decaffeinated coffee drink for me despite it being close to closing. Stopped in when driving back from an outing in the mountains. The food was FANTASTIC. I had an Asian grilled salmon that was cooked perfectly. Though the atmosphere was very nice, don't stop here if you are in a hurry, it took well over an hour from order time to get the food. My husband's food was not cooked to order.
