The service was exceptional. Candy went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable. She had great suggestions and was very attentive. My son got the "didn't you know" burger which I think may have been even better than mine because it had - you guessed it- the raspberry sauce plus some killer cheese curds. Came for dinner. The best dish we ordered was the Greek pizza (highly recommend). Got the beer sampler- great price to try all the different beers they offer (including their root beer). The kids grilled cheese was surprisingly delicious. The kids cheeseburgers were bland and even with the burger cooked medium rare, the bun made them extra dry. Ketchup didn't come to the rescue. The kids Alfredo is priced way too high (at $5.99) for the small portion and lack of side. They could at least include a piece of garlic toast or something for such a mediocre "meal". The beer battered fries were perfect. The sunspots (sweet potato waffle fries) were good, as well as the raspberry sauce they're served with. Priced at $9.25 each, the onion rings and fried pickles were NOT up to par. Way overpriced for portion size (especially the rings). However, I did love the jicama ketchup that comes with the fried pickles. Last, but not least, the don't you know burger was delicious. Although the cheese curds weren't gooey, which was disappointing. Even cold next day leftovers of this burger were amazing. Overall- I think this place is worth a try. My husband, extended family & I used to regularly visit Cannon. But after reopening, they have honestly gone to hell in a hand basket with their service. The last two times we went and ate, we had terrible service, including a server who told us menu items weren't available, even though they were. (Buffalo chicken tenders as an appetizer, for a specific example.) The last time we went to eat, we had been seated for SEVEN minutes without anyone coming to take our drink order. In fact, there were (oddly enough) SEVEN servers and a manager standing around the bar talking, and could clearly see us waiting for service. We got up and left. As if to tell this wasn't just us, the table behind us also left due to lack of service. I used to love this place, but it is no longer worth the interest to me, and I discourage anyone from going there. read more

The beer sampler is a must-get so you can try everything that they have. The Bravo is a beer cocktail with a mix of city wheat ale and banana liquor mixture. This was delicious and a wonderful option for girls who like fruity beers. The fried pickles and Grilled Apple BLT were delicious. If you're not hungry, just stick with the fried pickles. Sunspots are another name here for sweet potato fries. The service is as slow as time. It takes them forever to get anything to you but they're nice. You'd think it'd be easy to walk behind the bar, fill up the pint glass and bring it back but once you make that order, your waiter vanishes for an indefinite amount of time. Not worth what you pay for; bland taste. Not good for vegetarian/vegan consumers. Long wait, even for takeout. I ordered fried green tomatoes & their vegetarian bean sandwich. Tomatoes were fried great but lacked seasoning. Burger was basically beans, bun, & lettuce because the sauce they put on it was not enough. Also, my server seemed like she didn't care that my takeout order came out well after one of her other bar guests even though she put their orders in some time after mine. I was in Columbus a week ago for my bro's graduation, found this place thru yelp...the menu made me want to try it out. I was craving burgers and the bulldog sounded so awesome...low and behold it was not that great...as you can tell in my picture the cheese was hardly melted, was suppose to come with bacon unless they chopped it into tiny pieces with the mushrooms but no I didn't taste any bacon. Food wise it's okay, nothing to really write home about. I had the grouper tacos and the fish had no flavor. The accompanying chips and salsa, also quite bland. It was like biting into a bunch of crunchy nothing, texture but no flavor. I was undecided on what beer to drink so I got the sampler. I got a bit of every beer, including the root beer, which was a shock because I had it last. I'm not a root beer fan but this tasted pretty good actually so it was a pleasant shock. Honestly, nothing here stood out too much alcohol wise, except for the hefeweizen which was the only stand out (and the seasonal brew.) You'd think since their City Mills is an unfiltered wheat beer it would be okay but it really just seemed a bit like watered down Budweiser.I did have three of those, but otherwise it was pretty unexceptional. We ate here twice in one week, the second time not necessarily by choice. We had intended to try the other brew house after a rafting trip but since they don't open until 3pm we ended up back at Cannon. The first experience at Cannon was 4 star. It helped that at 2:30pm in the afternoon the place was pretty empty and the people we were with were on first named basis with their favorite server. We started out with a flight of their beers. I noticed that the flight samples were lightly poured and some slightly warm. About half were decent, the other half I did not like (I'm not an IPA girl) but my fave was the Red Jacket Ale. Service was good; food came out fast and hot. My burger was a mess and readily fell apart. The "sun spots" are thick sliced sweet potatoes and were very good, thanks to the raspberry dipping sauce. One our second visit service was much slower. It was a weekday about mid-day so an equal comparison. We were seated around the corner and our server, although she was working hard, could not keep up with her tables. This time I ordered the French dip which was not great. The roll was cold where it should have been warm. I tried the white cheddar mashed which were dry. We tried a sampling of desserts- the banana pudding with a moon pie all served in a big mason jar and a brownie ice cream creation, also in a mason jar. Both desserts were very good but the banana pudding was the table fave. The restaurant itself is very cool inside. Huge paddle fans in the main room, tin ceilings and a lot of history throughout make it a neat place to see. The brewing equipment is right in the main room and can make the room smell strongly, of mash on one of our visits, so beware. Also, another review mentioned it as not kid-friendly but it most certainly is, at least for a lunch or early dinner when we went. We saw plenty of families dining as well as highchairs, boosters and kids menus. That tells me kids are welcomed. read more

She also wasn't enthusiastic about giving us any information on the better dishes on the menu. The calamari was by far the best dish. Fried to perfection and the chipotle sauce complimented well. I ordered the pecan chicken with the spicy macaroni. The chicken was overcooked and did not sort of seasoning. The "spicy" macaroni was nothing but noodles with some weird tasting crumbs on top. I am giving this place a 5 because of my overall experience - not necessarily just because of the food. First, our server: Vee. Best server EVER. She was so sweet and attentive! Really, really a great server. Second, OMG, the place. This place is so over-the-top super-cool. I LOVE places that have historic charm, and this definitely does. From the floors to the ceilings to all of it - it is a great space and I loved it. The restaurant was very clean and the people are friendly. We started with beer-battered onion rings. They were really delicious. They were REAL onion rings in that the onions were mild and good, and the batter didn't overwhelm or encase the onion. Very very good. Next we shared a pizza. It was a good pizza. Not great - just good. I'm a pizza snob, so I may not be the best judge. It was decent. We're vegetarians so a pizza was safe. I prefer a place with tons of vegetarian options, but that's hard to find - especially in the South. My friend had the beer sampler. I don't drink, so I didn't partake in any of that, but she enjoyed them (she's a craft beer snob and she liked them all!). There were about 8 on the tray, including a non-alcohol root beer that they make there. I had that and it was delicious. The price for the beer sampler was very cheap and gave my friend the opportunity to try everything. Now the dessert. It was some berry-cobbler-thing. OMG, soooo delicious. Vee brought us the vanilla ice cream separately, so it didn't melt on the cobbler - AS IT SHOULD BE! We appreciated that. That dessert was insane it was so good. Nice place with high cielings. Friday night. Fun crowd of Columbis State college students and some Miltary groups. Beer was good, not the greatest mind you, but also not overpriced like many Breweries. Had the Red Jacket. A little yeasty, but overall solid, even if not spectacular. We had a burger which was VERY good and their combination pizza. The Pizza had a lot of fresh Veggies on it which was great. The Italian sausage on it was a HUGE let down though. It was same quality, or shall we say lack of, that you would find on a Red Barrons pizza or a Cici's pizza. Basically ruined the pizza for me. Sauce and crust (more focaccia style) were fine, but the sausage was a real disappointment. Take away- when I am back in Columbus I will come here for a beers and burgers. Was in Columbus for a convention that ran Sunday to Tuesday. That's right. Not Thursday to Saturday. Sunday to Tuesday greatly lowered the price of doing business. And when Monday came to a close, a handful of us ventured forth to find dinner, and found... EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED. That's right. Every restaurant on our list was closed. Well, almost everything. Cannon Brewpub was one place within walking distance which dared to remain open on an otherwise quiet Monday night. So we went in and chowed down. These folks seem to take their beer quite seriously. They even do brewing classes (though I'm not sure, these may be limited to staff.) My friend really enjoyed The Sledgehammer (I think that was a double-pale ale). And I enjoyed the root beer (even if it needs to be a bit less sweet). My sliders were fantastic. Dosed with a little bbq sauce and some friend onions, these were still pink in the middle and tasted absolutely delicious. I will likely order these again when I go back. The fellow who enjoyed The Sledgehammer? That guy completely destroyed a Bleu Burger. I thought he might wax poetic about it, but he made it a point to tell the staff that the burger was done "to perfection." My other companion ordered some healthy stuff: salmon with a double side of broccoli. And the salmon wasn't supposed to be too oily. Sure enough, it came to the table hardly lubed up at all. We were all very happy about that. Staff was personable and friendly. Service was quick and responsive. So yeah, Cannon Brewpub. On a Monday. They'll see me again. We were so glad we came for dinner. This place is known for their pizzas and boy are they good, technically anything that comes out of their pizza oven (including flat bread) is amazing. We had a party of three and we ordered the spinach dip which was great, we also ordered two types of flat breads and a pizza... needless to say that they were all GREAT choices, the toppings were fresh and perfectly cooked and the dough was perfect... Delicious!!! We also ordered the Red Jacket beer (brewed here), a Ginger beer and a beer cocktail (called black ops), they were all great choices. The ambiance, decor and service was also exceptional; we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated on a Friday at 7pm but it was worth it, we didn't have reservations so next time we might try making some.
