We came for the battered fish and chips. We weren't disappointed. Crispy beer battered and not the least bit greasy. Really crisp and tasty fries. We shared a two piece order. We ordered some food for take out tonight and I was so happy with what I got. I ordered the fried pickles which was crispy hot and ready to eat yum! We also ordered the Scotch eggs which were definitely tasty! For entrees my hunny got a cheese burger medium and fries and the burger was cooked wonderfully and the fries were hot and crispy. I had to order the Shepherds pie and the side was the mixed veggies. I loved the veggies they weren't soggy they were nicely spiced and shepherds pies was excellent. We came here because they were supporting "4th Annual Eat Dessert First Day" (dessert proceeds go to childhood cancer research). I had the apple pie with vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. I was dubious about eating fish and chips so far from water but I was delightfully surprised. The batter was crisp and not too greasy and the fish was flaky and fresh-flavored. My companions had the chicken pot pie and the steak and mushroom pie- both of which were very generous portions and rich and flavorful. Hello Canyon's Crown Pub, My first visit to your establishment was last Saturday, 12 Nov 22 around 4:30 p.m. I was told nothing but good things about your place. However, I must say that I was sorely disappointed with most of what I experienced there. The first thing I ordered was a pint of Guinness. It was completely watered down and had no body (and I have drank many pints of true Guinness in my life.) I ordered the Scotch Egg for the first time and was even more disappointed with that. It was as if the eggs were sitting under a heat lamp for too long. The egg halves were completely hard boiled and dry and the meat shell surrounding it was even more well done. What a shame as I was eagerly looking forward to some quality Irish fare. The only good thing I can say is that the Daily Pasty filled with lasagna hit the spot. I had downloaded the Fivestars application and saw a coupon for $5 off $25. Since this is a local restaurant, I decided to try something different. Glad that I did. I ordered a Reuben sandwich with fries. The Reuben was perfect in every way and they definitely were not stingy with the meat. I also ordered the calamari appetizer and had them shake it in the sweet chili sauce. While delicious on its own....their homemade cocktail sauce sent it to the next level of yummmmm. My boyfriend got their Wildcat burger and loved it. Definitely stop by here if you're looking for something delicious to eat! I loved how the inside of the restaurant was decorated. Unfortunately the business is going down hill. The fish and chips were good but the corn beef and cabbage was a disaster. Potatoes ice cold in the middle three carrot slices dehydrated and shriveled up. Cabbage wedge had the entire core attached corn beef Lukewarm and tough. Can't believe waitress actually brought out the dish. Poor quality control. Brought my dish up to the manager at the bar and she said the staff was in a hurry. Place hardly had any patrons. Didn't see what the rush would be. Replaced the dish with banger paste. Bottom crust soggy not evenly cooked. The dough was made from phyllo dough. Now my account shows 608.56 pending charge. Decided to try this place after work one day as we pass it on the way home but had never been. Felt like we were transported back to London and I'm sad we hadn't been here sooner! Scotch eggs were awesome, liked the honey mustard sauce, not the spicy one. Husband got meatloaf, said he would order it again. I got fish and chips- loved it, but will get the smaller size next time because the fish is huge! Perfect vinegar tartar sauce. So we have been here more than once but last night was especially great!! I always look forward to the Pub salad, which is steak, I sub the Bleu cheese for feta with onion strings and balsamic vinaigrette. Each bite tasted different, from bland to heavily spiced. One of the sausages tasted old or reheated. The beans tasted like they were poured from a can. Others from my party commented: fish and chips: very good, not heavy or greasy. Corned Beef: really good. Perfectly medium - not too hot - jalapenos stuffed with a slightly spicy cream cheese filling, wrapped in bacon and topped off with just the right amount of a sweet-n-spicy sauce. A heavenly dish known as Pub Footballs. I rarely order an appetizer, but this is one I won't pass up. This place is one of our regular haunts. I like the traditional English-style pub atmosphere which feels a bit more upscale than what one usually finds in Tucson. It's good for a group or a cozy dinner for two. I've never been disappointed by the food or the service. Can't really say that I have a favorite dish though. Great local pub. Great menu. Had fish and chips -- fish cooked perfectly, however, the fries were underwhelming, just ok. Wedge salad was great. Wings were great -- although, I would stick with the traditional Buffalo sauce. Had to try the Creme Brulee -- very good, and perfect portion for one person. We were going to the restaurant next door, but it had a 45 minute wait. So we happened spot this place while parking -- glad we chose not to wait for the other place. This restaurant is a gem. We had lunch and my birthday dinner there this week. Nice selection of beers in tap and great food. For lunch I had a burger and Kathy had a fish sandwich (same fish used in the fish and chips). The waiter was very prompt and the food came quickly. They had some very nice Irish beers on tap besides a great selection of craft beers. For my birthday dinner, it was very crowded and we had to wait about 10 minutes because I didn't think I needed a reservation on a Wednesday night. I had the salmon and it grilled to perfection and I ordered fruit with it since I can't have rice. Kathy had mussels which are one of her favorite meals and she said that they were very good. Matt had fish and chips with a appetizer of hot wings. Bother were excellent. Since it was my birthday, I ordered dessert which I normally don't do and I ordered an Irish cream creme brûlée. When it came, it had happy birthday written out in chocolate sauce. It tasted as good as it looked. I never had a creme brûlée made with Irish cream before and It was out of the world delicious. Kathy had sticky toffee pudding and went crazy it was so good. One of the best she has had and she had it many times in Ireland and Englend. It was a group decision that you could not go wrong here for lunch or dinner. We had the same waiter Morley both times and he was outstanding . Even remember it was my birthday and bought me a beer. Just dropped into a typical London bar. Great fun atmosphere. The food however steals the show. I had bangers and mash, a friend had meatloaf and my husband had a Reuben. Hands down hard to say which one I won't order in the future they were all so delicious. The bangers are made in house and they were really special! It's been almost three years since I last updated my review on The Crown. Well, let me tell, you how wrong I was about this place early on. I complained about high prices - wrong. Maybe I am just not as cheap as I used to be. I complained about average food - wrong. Maybe I am not as picky as I used to be. No, I'm still picky. I just have come to realize that they do what they do well. There is, of course, the fish and chips that is, IMO, the best in town, but when you're looking to control your carbs take a peek at the salad menu, which is what has really turned my head here. My wife is all about the Mediterranean salad, with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, red onion, cucumber and feta cheese. All dressed in a tangy balsamic vinaigrette. Me - I love their buffalo chicken salad. The combination of crispy chicken tossed in wing sauce, tomato, bacon, cucumber and bleu cheese served with ranch dressing always satisfies. Those carbs you saved on your salad can be used to order a beer from their, usually, decent selection of craft beers or a pint of Guinness, or your other favorite British concoction. This place is high (if not first) on our list of places when you face that inevitable question, "Where do you want to go?". " I don't know, where do you want to go?" This was our first time visiting Canyon's Crown Pub. As we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly host who brought us to our seats. Our server showed up right away, and took our drink orders. No bread or anything else was brought to the table. We arrived during happy hour when they had $1 off the appetizers. We were hungry for dinner so I ordered the Shepherd's Pie and my husband ordered the 1 small Fish and Chips dinner. The meals were on our table within 10-15 minutes. I was quite surprised at how fast they came out. I thoroughly enjoyed my Shepherd's pie. There was a ground beef layer on the bottom that was moist, but not soupy. Then a thin layer of peas and carrots topped with a thick layer of creamy mashed potatoes. They served it with an additional side-cup of gravy, which I did not need with how moist the dish was. The mixed veggies served on the side of my pie were cooked perfectly, meaning they still had a crunch to them. The veggies were loaded with garlic, but I like garlic, so they were fine for me. My husband's dish was not up to par. The fish seemed frozen, not fresh. The outside fried beer batter was good tasting, but due to the frozen fish, the layer between the fish and fried batter was a gooey consistency. The tartar sauce had a very heavy mayonnaise taste to it and the fries had a coating on them that made them stick together. The coleslaw was very nice tasting; however, it's just that there was a tiny amount on the plate. The service was great. Super fast and friendly. We were in-an-out in 34 minutes. Exactly what we like. Other nights we like to have a relaxed dinner, but most of the time we are just hungry and want something fast. The atmosphere had a hometown, hole-in-the-wall, family friendly feeling. The noise level was at a medium. We had two young children next to our table who were so well behaved and had the giggles at one point. Just a delight. They have a kids menu and lots of crayons available. The dress was very casual. The place was clean and had the pub decor. It had medium sized bar that had TVs with games on them. The cost of the food was low. We would go back. I would like to try the corned beef and cabbage. Best pub atmosphere I've ever been to! My boyfriend and I went during happy hour which is between 4-7pm every day! You get 1 dollar off all draft beers and snacks. We used a coupon from the entertainment books which saved us 12 bucks on a meal, hence buy one get one free. As we walked in we were greeted by a waiter whom said we can sit where ever we liked. The space is cozy, with booths and tables that have a soft red colouring to accent the dark wooden floors and chairs. Our waiter asked us if we wanted to try any of their 21 drafts they had on selection before deciding on a beer. *awesome! tasting free beer??!* I went with a Sam Adam's newest brew the Alpine Spring, it was a light tasting amber coloured beer. My boyfriend went with Strongbow cider. (beer) For a starter we went with the southwest bourbon wings. Delish! The wings were crispy and the sauce was very mild and sweet, you didn't even need to use the ranch to take the heat away! For meals I went with a challenge, the bangers & mash. Which is 3 Irish prepared sausages layed upon baked beans and mashed potatoes and on top of your "bangers" are cooked onions which are transparent and cooked all the way thru. I can honestly say I didn't eat the beans or onions because I don't like either so I can't give my 2 cents on those but the bangers were savory with a slight crisp when you bit into them. They were not spicy in anyway, a mild sausage. The potatoes were mashed of course, plain but tasty. I'd def come here again because there are so many choices and options.
