His customer service was superior and I enjoyed all of his recommendations. I had the dry aged porterhouse steak for two. Seasoned to perfection, hella juicy, and TENDER AF!!!! This may be the best steak I've ever had. The crab cakes are 100% crab meat. No filler what so ever. I enjoyed the Ruben eggrolls. Completely different spin on your eggrolls. If you enjoy a Ruben then the eggrolls will be a nice treat for you. The lobster bisque was enjoyable and I dipped my buttered bread in it for the extra razzle dazzle. I visited here on a Wednesday night with my son. I found a coupon on Groupon that I used. I made up a 7:30pm reservation. The restaurant a romantic type of ambiance and atmosphere. Even though, it was nice for my son and I. I wanted us to have a nice meal before we left out of town. I got a smoked margarita for my drink and I got a lemonade for kid. The drinks came out fairly quickly. We were given complementary bread. The second drinks I got was a Washington Apple. Both drinks were tasty. We had onion soup and shrink cocktail as the appetizer. I wasn't a huge fan of the onion soup. For food, we got son chicken Parmesan, salmon, broccoli, mashed potatoes, and rice. My kid said he wasn't hungry and didn't eat much of his food. He ate it the next day. I highly enjoyed my food and have no complaints. For dessert, I got NY cheesecake, which was yummy! When we were done eating, I boxed up our food. I enjoyed the steak, my boyfriend said it could use more flavor. The brussel sprouts were very good. I was surprised at how good the macaroni and cheese was!! Thought it would be a little more busy we arrived a little after 5:30 had a 6:30 reservation and there were only 2 tables eating and people at the bar. We were seated everyone that waited on us were great. I ordered an Old Fashion that was very good, wife just had the free champagne they gave us for Mew Years. For dinner we both ordered the Filet Diablo, I was thinking a Diablo sauce was a cream sauce well I was wrong. The steaks are cut to about 1/2 think and then 2 large shrimp are topped on the steak and a spicy tomato sauce is placed around the steaks. The suave was excellent for the shrimp but I think it ruined the steak all you could taste was the spicy tomato sauce not steak, I would like to taste my $45 steak. We also ordered the Mac n cheese and creamed spinach they were both very good, the steak was ok I would much rather of had a 2-3 inch thick steak with the shrimp and no sauce. Was supposed to be med rare was more med-med well wife's was supposed to have med well and it was well done. We were celebrating our anniversary and the wife's birthday so they gave us a slice of caramel cheese cake and even came out with a candle on it. I Saw this place on Groupon and went with my wife on Friday night. We had a reservation and they let us sit outside due to the nice weather. For the 3 Course Prix Fixe we started with the Caesar Salad and Asian Pear Salad. The main course we shared the Petite Filet Mignon and Chicken Parmesan with Penne Pasta. The entrees came with one complimentary side each and we chose the mushrooms and seasonal vegetable which was broccolini. Our desserts were the Chocolate Mousse Cake and the Cheesecake. To drink we had a glass of the Liberty School Cabernet and and the apple cocktail (forget the name). With dessert we had the Japanese whiskey drink (also forgot the name) that was $25 but worth trying. The service was great and they even gave us a cappuccino at the end for free. We ended up tipping more than they suggested as they marked the Groupon at its own value of 99 rather than the 160 listed as a discount. This is quite an expensive place as it is a true steakhouse from New York in an expensive part of DC, however the portions were massive unlike what we expected and it is surprising that we did not have leftovers. It was 5 of us and none of us have been there before. The waiter was rude and he initially asked if we wanted any alcoholic drinks. I said that I'm not drinking tonight but the other 4 guests were. He abruptly closed his writing pad and stormed off like he was frustrated. We had to call him back so the other 4 patrons could order their drinks. He continued to walk away from us while we were ordering our drinks and appetizers. It was awkward and off-putting so we asked for a different waiter. The second waiter was better but the mood was already ruined. The food was ok but overpriced. After we paid, I pulled the manager aside to inform him about our unpleasant experience and he listened but offered nothing to rectify the situation. I attended a group dinner in a private dining room at Bobby Van's in early December. Because it was a group thing, our menu was limited to one of three starters, three entrees, and two deserts. They also provided a red and white wine, plus bar service if needed. I have been here several times when in town on business, and it's always been pretty good. They definitely have fantastic service, and our primary server and her support runners were top-notch. All of the food was also very good, but unfortunately it was not as hot as it should have been. I know it can be hard to manage this for large groups, but I have to deduct a star for it based on the kind of place this is, and my similar experiences at local competitors. I have seen Bobby Van's across the street from Joe's Seafood, Steak, etc., where I usually eat and thought I would give it a try during Restaurant Week. It was a disappointing experience. The start was good. An excellent shrimp cocktail followed by a nice Caesar salad. Unfortunately, I enjoyed only two bites out of my entire NY strip. The rest seemed to be mostly gristle. It was the worst steak I have had in a long time. It was difficult to cut with a steak knife. The haricots verts and roasted potato sides were good, but this is a steakhouse. Service was desultory. When I thanked the server for refilling my wine glass, he would typically say nothing or "mmm mmm." Seeing that I eaten only a few bites, he asked if I wanted to take the leftover steak home. I said "no, it wasn't very good." His response was to recite the dessert menu. A good feature was half-priced bottles of wine on Saturdays. But, they served me a different vintage (2015) than the one shown in the wine list (2014). The menus are paper due to COVID restrictions.
