I've had three experiences with the Car Shop, and I would generally recommend it but not without reservations. My first meeting was for a cracked intake manifold. They took care of everything relatively quickly, the car worked great afterward, and they took care of the small regular maintenance problems which they saw as a complimentary service. It was a great experience, and they had great followup as well. The second meeting was when the replaced intake manifold cracked. Now, that sounds bad and it certainly was a pain for me. What I was told (by them, mind you) is that the part they had used wasn't as robust as the original. I had told them to save money with aftermarket and used parts where possible, and I honestly don't think they deserved any blame for it. What they did do was fix the problem at a very deep discount and very quickly. I can't say I could have reasonably asked for more, given the situation. The third meeting was for a fuel regulator problem, and again they were fast, professional, and had great followup. So, why is this four stars and not five? Part is my reservations regarding the manifold issue, and that that particular fix seemed to fail quickly. The other is that their prices do seem high; I've gotten lower estimates from other shops for the same job, my own limited knowledge of repairs indicates they charge more than the average for the work they've done on my car, and they do charge more than 100 for an initial diagnostic. That being said, if you're looking for excellent customer service, turn around time, and follow through, then this might be the place for you. read more

I had a little car emergency. I got in my car yesterday and it didn't start... oh no.... school was starting today and my internship is starting tomorrow.... super bad timing. So after trying to jump the battery and buying a new battery I began to freak out for a little while. I was sure that I was doomed. Then I got a recommendation to go to the Car Shop. I called them this morning at 7 am and, I think it was Terry (?), answered and just sounded to calm and assured me they could fix it. I had my car towed over there and was very nervous I wouldn't get it back til this weekend or something. Well these guys really came through... they got it done for me by this afternoon....I am so grateful to these guys! They really saved the day... plus they have a discount on the labor for ASU students! Plus they were super friendly... The Car Shop is GREAT. I went here on a whim after the Tex Earnhardt boys (that ain't no Bull - but it is!) told us we had a leak in our A/C compressor that needed to be fixed at a cost of about $1.200. Instead, we took my son's '97 Ford Pickup truck to The Car Shop and guess what?? They could not find a leak! They found some other solutions to remedy the problem and with our SunDevil discount it came to $643. Here's the kicker! My son is a Wildcat, but they still gave us the SunDevil discount because I graduated from there in 1985. Ha! Terry has been great and he even had places to recommend in Tucson if we need to take the truck there for service. Incredible service. Took my party bus in for oil change and they noticed a pressure valve in my tire was leaking so they replaced it and put a new tire on. Didn't charge me. They are good with telling me things I should do with explanations why and how long I can probably hold off on any needed repairs. The Car Shop, and Paul especially, as usual, provided me with excellent service. I'd been told repeatedly that my aging Jeep wasn't worth repairing. I'd also been told by 3 or 4 other mechanics that I had a rear main seal leak, and they were advising to not bother repairing it because I'd likely need a new engine soon (Jeep has 220K+ miles on it). The Car Shop found that the primary leak was not in the rear main seal at all, and that my engine still sounded and pressure tested just fine and that it was worth fixing the leak. It's been over 2 weeks, and I haven't lost a drop of oil. The Jeep is running better than ever (we did some other work as well, such as replacing the engine and transmission mounts). They also fixed an issue with the Jeep failing emissions, and handled taking it back through for me and getting it to pass. I have always found The Car Shop to be fair, straight forward, and honest. Paul worked with me patiently to come up with a repair plan I could afford, helping me prioritize which repairs were most important and which could wait. And, my personal favorite aspect of working with Paul: he didn't talk down to me. I've had many mechanics be dismissive or unwilling to explain, or even get offended at me "questioning" them--presumably because I'm a woman (or maybe because I'm not a mechanic). That has never happened to me dealing with Paul. He speaks to me respectfully and recognizes my cognitive ability. That goes a LONG way with me. (Especially since I'm the type of woman to change my own oil, or replace my own ignition coil, and I don't at all care to be treated like I wouldn't understand mechanical issues.) They worked with the transmission insurance company and made sure the car was in great running condition as quickly as possible. If I could give more stars I would! This auto shop is by far the best place I have ever taken my little junker of a car! They can recommended by tripleAAA and Napa auto parts! And I'm so glad they did! The staff was friendly and understanding of my situation. They diagnosed my issue so quick and even spent over 30 min with me on the phone so I could pick apart the issue and really understand what had happened to my vehicle! When I left my car with them I thought for sure I wouldn't see my car for about a week only to get a call not even two full days later saying my car was done! It was amazing to have my car finished for the weekend! Paul and his entire staff were so kind and in today's world, it is so hard to find! This is the best auto repair shop I've ever found. They go out of their way to make check out worrisome things that pop up in my older Toyota, like the inconsisten "chattering" (Terry's term of art) in the clutch in first gear. (Answer: Hot spots on the clutch and nothing to worry about, at least for now). They even fix annoyances like squeaking linkages in the brake. They diagnosed a problem with my air conditioning, and gave me a few options to deal with it and actually allowed me to get a quick fix that I could afford until I could get enough money to do more work. They also noted issues with my vehicle that were not pressing, but needed attention at some point. They did well communicating with me throughout the process in a professional and timely manner.
