I can't recommend The Car Shop enough. I originally came here because I was looking for a small, independent repair shop that was honest, trustworthy, and fairly priced. They have exceeded my expectations in every one of those areas. Here's been my experience so far: A while back, I took my car to the Mazda dealership for a free recall repair. While it was there, they recommended several thousand dollars' worth of maintenance that I wasn't convinced was necessary. I brought both my car and the dealership's recommendations to The Car Shop for a second opinion. They walked me through each item, explaining what was and wasn't actually needed based on the manufacturer's maintenance schedule and my vehicle's mileage. Not only did they save me from paying for unnecessary work, but the services they did perform were significantly less expensive than the dealership's quotes. During the same visit, I also asked them to diagnose my A/C because it wasn't blowing cold air. They performed extensive testing, clearly explained the results, and presented me with two options: a lower-cost repair that would likely be a temporary improvement, or a more comprehensive repair involving replacement of several major A/C components that would provide a longer-lasting solution. They never pressured me either way. After discussing the pros and cons, I decided to go with the more extensive repair. It was admittedly an expensive job, but they were transparent about the costs from the beginning, shopped around to find the best prices on replacement parts, and even offered a discount for paying in cash. On top of that, they performed my oil change and rear differential fluid service at no additional charge to help offset the cost of the repair. Everything worked perfectly for about six months before the A/C stopped blowing cold again. I brought it back to The Car Shop, and they quickly diagnosed a leak, repaired it, and recharged the refrigerant completely free of charge because the work was covered under their warranty. Finding an honest mechanic can be difficult, but these guys have earned my trust. They take the time to explain their recommendations, don't try to sell you work you don't need, stand behind their repairs, and charge fair prices. I'll definitely continue bringing my vehicles here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable local shop. read more

I took my car to a competing major auto repair chain to replace a car battery that was under warranty with them. The competitor then tried to sell me on getting a new alternator because it had failed a load test, plus the coolant was low. I immediately took it to The Car Shop and they tested the alternator in front of me. It was fine, the coolant wasn't low either. Honest mechanics are hard to find and this is actually the third time The Car Shop has demonstrated to me they operate truthfully. They saved me 1000 dollars for a repair that I didn't need. I've been going here for a couple years now and am so happy I found them. I really don't like servicing my car because most places have been disrespectful, overprice simple fixes like crazy while treating me like I'm dumb. This place is the opposite. They are always so friendly and welcoming. On the phone and in person they give great service. They explain to me what's going on with my car, answer my questions without judgement and they give me options for how to handle things. They're also not too expensive! They've been doing my car servicing, oil changes and replaced my breaks for me. Never had any issues with my car after taking it to them, I know it's in good hands. Our daughters car broke down a mile from the shop. They inspected the car for us. They were very honest, transparent with the costs, and great communication. I brought my car in this morning because my check engine light was on. They had an estimate ready for me by noon, with a clear explanation of what needed to be done and why. The car was ready to go by 4. I found the service to be friendly and attentive. Additionally, I chose this location because I was a AAA member and would therefore receive a discount on labor- I mentioned this in the original call but forgot to bring it up again at checkout. We've used The Car Shop for our 2013 Honda Civic twice now and have been impressed with the customer service (Travis) and the fact that they are able to diagnose the issue and get it fixed without pushing for a lot of extras. They really care about doing a good job and maintaining you as a customer. They even make a follow-up call a few days after the service is completed just to check and see if there are any issues. I have been coming here for several years to get my car fixed after moving to Phoenix from out of town. They are always very fast and able to get me in right away. Very trustworthy and they always give me reasoning behind what they're doing. Once I even came in with my maintenance light on and they had me straightened out within 30 seconds and charged me nothing I always work with the young guy who wears glasses and has been there for years or the Kiwi guy. Do not waste your time coming to this auto shop, mechanics don't want to do their job inspecting your car . Will tell you "they're not trying to charge you" but get upset when asked to do an inspection which is FREE on their site and not needing a repair to be done. Quoted $1200 for power steering "pump, return hose, and pressure hose". Immediately called two other businesses and was quoted $500 cheaper ($739) with no discounts. I understand the parts used here may be higher quality, but at almost double the price, it is ludicrous! Upon picking up my vehicle, the manager, Paul, was gracious and understanding of my situation financially. We chatted for a pit and he gave me a great rate for the inspection ($37!) My 18 year old son at ASU has a 2006 Mustang that broke down late one afternoon. We called the Car Shop and they were so helpful and responsive and helped him bring it it in and get checked in. I found this place through Google. It was the closest place to my shop to get an oil change. I found the service to be fantastic and I didn't get upsold on anything. Every time I go to big chain stores they try to sell you everything they have. I got exactly what I wanted and I highly recommend this place to anyone that needs an oil change. I am not a demending guy but having working AC is real nice when its 115 out. And so i went to The Car Shop to get it taken care of. Looked up repair facilities in the vicinity of my job and those guys came up and they were AAA rated and all. So, i figured - "What the fuck, its just AC repair. What is the worst can happen? It is already not blowing cold." And so i went. Droped it off and they gave me ride back to work. Real quick too. Called me back within reasonable time and told me something needs to be rebuilt and they can do it tomorrow. Droped it off again and another fast ride to work. Got a call within 3 hours that its ready for pickup. Few weeks later got a call from them asking how it works out for me and all. Really surprising and pleasant. Pretty good repair shop. The best!! I needed to get new windshield wipers this morning due to the storm.. These guys installed them for me and got me back on my way to work within 15 minutes. Paul and all of the other employees (I wish I had gotten everyone's names) were so kind and very efficient. My friend and I came by here a few weeks ago, too, because her tire had deflated, and they offered to follow us to the car and fill it with air! Seriously, these guys are awesome. I had to wait a few days to write this because I was so mad. Brought my car in and my husband told the service person he thinks it's the battery. All the dash board lights would turn on it would try to turn over when starting car but then die. Then nothing when you try again. Once you jumped the car it worked. The service guy said it is 130 dollars diagnostic fee. Ok no duh it ended up being the battery and no need for a diagnostic evaluation. My car is very new just 3 years old and less than 30000 miles. They charged us a 60 dollar diagnostic charge. Ok cheaper than 130 but I have never been charged a fee from Tempe Auto to check my battery where I usually go. Once you test the battery and it's the problem why did they say they checked other things out there was no need especially for how new my car is. I will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

I made an appointment over a week ago to get my door handle fixed. I walked in 5 minutes early to my appointment, they acknowledged they saw my appointment time and had me fill out some paperwork. They then told me it would be about 2 hours to look at my car IF they could even get me in today ???? I just got my vehicle back from the Car Shop. I have been taking it there for years. The technician always communicates to me about my vehicle and the staff is always friendly, helpful (explaining to me what needs to be done on my vehicle) and the owner is amazing. He dropped what he was doing to take me back to work when I had told them I would wait but something came up. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have referred a number of my clients here and some have traveled as far as Gilbert and the West side for the type of professionalism and service they have gotten here. Pricing is always good. To summarize my experience here, I was 100% satisfied with the repairs done to my car and I even experienced great customer service here, which these days, is hard to fine both. I am really fortunate that I took my car here. Paul and Travis are two great down to earth people who really address every concern you have about your car and care deeply about the quality of service and repairs they provide. I've heard a lot of great things about this shop from my boss and took my car here to get it looked at because my car was shaking on a concerning level and it made a lot of noises reversing and hitting even the slightest bumps which made it feel unsafe to drive, which is a no for me because I drive from Fountain Hills to Tempe for work everyday. In just a few days, these guys had me back up and running again. After the repair and the noises were gone, I noticed my car was still a little shaky but definitely better than it was. I took it back and they test drove it with me and noticed it too and gave me a sigh of relief when they told me my car was safe to drive still and that if I wanted them to look at it I could schedule an appointment to have them look at the front end of my car to try to diagnose the problem. These guys don't upsell you, they are here for the customer and are an honest company. Especially after dealing with TWO other repair shops one who was negligent about my vehicle and two who wanted me to dump $2,000 on fixing the entire front end. The worst part was the one who was negligent about my car was a dealership! I highly recommend giving these guys at least a chance, I know from my experience, I doubt they would let anyone down. read more

My vehicle was having battery issues and I couldn't figure out why. I took my car In and I thought the customer service was great but realized this place just takes advantage of clients who aren't familiar with auto work. They called to let me know I would need a new battery since mine was "leaking" and the connections needed to be redone. Total charge to fix: $430.00. I told the shop I was not able to pay that much. The shop literally charged me $135 to just look at my vehicle. So I took my vehicle to autozone to check my battery. My battery was fine! Not even leaking! All I had to purchase was a $3 part from autozone and my car has not had any battery issues since. So if you're a broke student that wants to be taken advantage of like me apparently, then go here. read more

It was Sunday, 11:30 at night when my fuel pump decided to give up after trying to pass a semi coming off the 10 to my exit, no bueno Called Paul the next morning to let him know my truck was coming. When my truck was at The Car Shop, I explained to Paul what happened. Initially, I was told it wasn't going to be until the next day that my truck was going to be ready so I was prepared to get a rental and even made reservations. At about 4:45 later that day, Paul called me to let me know my truck was ready with a new fuel pump. These guys have work on all my vehicles and will not hesitate to use them again. I typically use Arizona Import Specialists in Tempe, AZ. Unfortunately; I had a gas line bust on one of my dual tanks. It was a Saturday so I used my AAA road side assistance (12 year member) to have it towed to The Car Shop. With the great reviews and the AAA recommendations I did not hesitate to have the work completed on my 1987 V-10 Custom Deluxe. They completed the work in a timely fashion. After I pick up the vehicle I filled the tank with gas and it didn't work. I took my truck back and they reviewed their work and the manager informed me that the switch was malfunctioning. I asked if they had tested it after the "repair" work was complete. They said, "No". It is common practice to test something that has been fixed. I spoke with the manager and we had a disagreement about what was wrong with the truck. He refused to fix it and wanted to charge me an additional $200.00 to fix something I already paid him to fix ($326.00). Needless to say I took my truck back to my original mechanic and they solved the problem right away. Problem resulting in a kinked hose - the one they replace. The arrogance and dishonesty from the manager was nothing short of a disappointment. I understand the dynamics of the repair and was willing to work out our differences but this man insisted the malfunction was not caused by the work he had done. People who live in suburbs understand the necessity of having a car. Because metropolitan Phoenix is a super-sized suburb, all residents understand the value of having a car. In fact, a lot of people have to drive to park-and-rides to use what little public transit there is here. Unfortunately, cars take a beating, go through wear and tear, break down and in sum can just be a real headache. One night I noticed my car needed well over a hundred feet to brake. The Car Shop fixed my car and said I had one broken brake line and the other was swollen. They were fast, professional and the staff was quite likable. It was a very reasonable price to fix both brake lines and they did a little extra work on it at no charge. Next time (and there will be a next time) my car has problems, I'm taking it here. read more
