Some mixed feelings with this dining experience... This restaurant menu appeared to be quite posh, but the place itself turned out to be quite casual looking and small. From the start, It was a let-down for my husband in that of the only 3 tap beer options they had on the menu, they were out of 1 beer that my husband wanted. In any case, he ordered another beer, and I chose "Indian Summer" cocktail...which was good. I wasn't too hungry, so had Scallion Crab Cakes for my meal, and my husband tried the Shrimp Po Boy. Well, my crab cakes were quite good...but I was more impressed with my husband's Po Boy. Possibly THE best version of Po Boy I've ever seen and tasted! We also shared a Key Lime Pie...which was just OK. Still, the presentation for all 3 items were really nice. Service was OK at best. While fine in the beginning, the waitress somewhat disappeared halfway through? I even accidentally tagged down the Manager-Owner (thinking it was our waitress!). She did touch base near the very end. Overall, I thought the foods were quite good...but the overall dining experience was just OK. We shared the salmon and the hanger steak, and both were absolutely incredible. The food and service exceeded expectations! The happy hour cocktails are also a must-try. We loved the unique concept of having both a restaurant upstairs and a cozy tavern downstairs -- it made the experience even more special. Amazing restaurant from the same group as Aurum up the street. We initially went in to find seats for the tavern but ended up getting seated at a booth inside the restaurant. It is on the pricier end but the quality is worth it in my opinion. We started with the stone crab claws which were tasty. I wish the butter was warmed. Next up was the ceviche which was also good and not too fishy tasting. The chips were thick and had a decent amount of salt on it (which I like). There were some plantain chips which was a nice touch. We also got some warm olives. The baked oysters were briny and cheesy. The salmon was the main entree we shared and the fish was incredibly fresh. The quinoa and cherry tomatoes along with the fresh micro greens went well together. There was also a sauce garnish that reminded me of a chimichurri. Overall we had a great dining experience here and would return during our next trip to Breckenridge. read more

My wife and I had a last-minute meal here recently. They were very accommodating to us just popping in. The service was excellent, the server was very attentive. Service is perfect. Yet they're in jeans. Love it! The oysters on the half shell came with a lemon vinaigrette, the usual red sauce, and their homemade hot sauces. The Brussels were perfectly cooked and included cherries and a delicious balsamic. The short rib and sirloin mains were perfect. And the moose calves that walked by while we were here were perfect! We had a specialty beverage (Curious George (modified old fashioned)) and the Sangiovese were also perfect. We will come again. read more

We had a great return visit to The Carlin last night. Almost a year into operation, the menu continues to evolve a bit which is to be expected. They've moved away from more of a small plate focused menu to a balance with some clear larger entrees for those who want your typical starter/main course experience. We tried the pickled mussels to start which had a nice balance of brine and spice. The crab cakes are excellent with some red pepper sauce. They are not too bready and the sauce is not too spicy. My wife tried the dynamite shrimp which was just spicy enough for her. Obviously everyone's tolerance is different. I then tried the Salmon which was quite tasty and huge. This is a rich dish with the gnocchi, guanciale and sauce along with the salmon so go light up front if you want to finish this at the table. Sam and Grayson did a very nice job and we look forward to returning, hopefully at lunch when they add that service in the next few weeks. read more

We were looking for a place for cocktails and so glad we stumbled upon the adorable Carlin. LOVED the ambience - tastefully modern - loved the wooden touches on the booths, the lighting and all of the perfect blue and brushed gold finishes. The ski photos are amazing. 24 Karat was my absolute favorite cocktail. Such a unique combination. The kale salad was good, the wood fired oysters were a tad disappointing as they were flavorless unless you added hot sauce. The slider was the winner - would have been happy to eat the kale salad and a few sliders. Bummed we just missed happy hour. On to the entrees...unfortunately we were disappointed by both the fish & chips (the grouper was an odd choice) and the pork chop (it was way overcooked). Management was kind enough to remove the pork chop, which was unnecessary. Unsure if the restaurant is new, but if so - once they remedy these kinks it will be amazing. Service was 5-stars. I arrived at Carlin's at 3:45 and was the first in line to get in. We got seated for their 4-5PM Happy Hour with no issues with a party of six and they accommodated for us adding two more people (though told us when they needed the table by) which alone gives them a 5/5. Suggest you get a reservation! I ordered: 1 Au Jus Slider ($4) (5/5) Best thing on the menu for value. I appreciate that they put pickles on the side. Order two and a cocktail for a truly great happy hour. Clam Chowder ($10): (3/5) Served Manhattan style so it's watery, not as thick as New England style. I thought it was a bit light on ingredients, not the best value. 2 Select Oysters ($2.50 ea) (4.5/5): Served with lemon, very tasty. I liked these more than the wood fired ones. 3 Wood Fired Oysters ($3.50 ea) (4/5): Very well cooked and very flavorful. My only critique is that the oysters used (from British Colombia?) were quite small. Brussel Sprouts (shared) (4.5/5): Good portions, little heat from the szechuan vinegarette but not too hot. Tasted from friends: Buttermilk Gruyere Biscuits (shared) (4.5/5): Four huge biscuits with a pretty good butter. The biscuits are extremely rich, buttery and cheesy. Great value for $7 for four. Hushpuppies (shared) (3.5/5): Tasty, just not my style. Grouper Fish and Chips (shared) (4.5/5): Solid portions for both fries and a huge piece of fish. Amazing value and also pretty sharable. Tasted my friend's Manhattan and found it excellent. It's stronger than others we had on Main Street. Oysters were served with a habanero pear sauce and an Ancho sauce. We all agreed the Ancho sauce is more flavorful. I enjoyed the variety here and would say it stands up to some of the best happy hours in Breckenridge, way better than Aurum according to my friends. We rated it equivalent to Hearthstone but with more interesting variety. I'd come back for the fish and chips, brussel sprouts, and sliders over any other happy hour on Main. If I had one criticism I'd say the speed of food service is a bit strange. Four of our sliders came out quickly but I was waiting for mine for over 35 minutes. Maybe they forgot my order. read more

Spoke to gm who was frankly rude about the whole thing saying only that they try to make everyone happy as a family establishment. My husband and consider ourselves food snobs. We can tell when there is an exceptional chef cooking. Don't know his name but this 33 year old chef is "hitting it out of the park." We serving the underground tavern and Cat waiting on us. Wonderful experience from start to finish. We loved it so much we will eat upstairs on 5 days. Fish and Chips great too with ranch flavoring on the fries. But - the key lime pie and picked mussels were hands down the most interesting and flavorful. This is a "must experience" restaurant. I was in Breckenridge for two days and came here for both of them! Absolutely phenomenal oysters, and the service is top notch. Highly recommend the chunu variety, especially if they're part of the happy hour menu. Additionally, the butter lettuce salad is out of this world! If I knew the recipe for the dressing, it would be included in my will. The au jus sliders are also an incredible value with a delicious bacon jam. No notes! Lower level tavern. Inn top floor 50% off Entrees Sunday-Wednesday. Till Dec 6! Hurry! We love their food! We tried two of their entrees, apps, cocktails and dessert! We were welcomed with a delicate Beef Tartare that's so fresh and sits in this delicate casing. ENTREES: 1. Grouper ( Catch of the day)with garlic *panisse. Red chermoula and asparagus 2. Chicken Roulade and Dumplings: Chicken roulade, herbed dumplings - mushroom supreme - braised greens green beans - parmesan - red onion marmalade. We love them all! But lemme tell you the slight nuance with each dish. The chicken is slightly sweet because of the Red onion marmalade. While the fish is all savory. *What's Panisse? It's chickpea, flour, salt, water, and olive oil. THE COLD SECTION: Hamachi Crudo: seaweed salad, pickled shiitake mushroom, shrimp dashi - quail egg. Crab Legs with warm butter on the side. HOT: Gougeres: French cheese bread with umami butter. Can't pick a fave on the small plates above. DESSERT: Woodfire oven cooked Banana Bread. Try this! It's different with a crunch courtesy of the wood-fired oven. But it came with a sauce that's a perfect match with it. Don't let the baby-faced Chef De Cuisine Zach Brace fool you. This chef runs a kitchen that churns out some delicious entrees and unforgettable small plates. His rendition of the entrees we tried is still in my mind. Just stopped for a cocktail and appetizer at happy hour. Has a nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Drinks were fine, but the appetizers were better. Roasted Brussels were very tasty. Rich, flavorful, and crispy. They are supposed to have duck confit, but they hardly put any in. I ate half the order and only got one small bite of it. The Dynamite Shrimp were amazing. The naam jim aioli is light, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with the green onion and cabbage. The dinner menu looks excellent here. Expensive, but looks worth it. We'll be back for dinner. read more

My husband wanted to come to this restaurant for his birthday so we made the journey out to Breck. He had heard good things about it and read good reviews in regards to their seafood and their oysters We showed up early and was immediately seated so for the people who complain that they won't sit you they do if they have room also, we were wearing ski pants but not ski boots I did ask the front desk guy if there was a dress code and he said not really, but they will not allow ski boots/snow boots which makes sense if you're coming in ski boots to a nice restaurant you should be going to the sizzler. Restaurant is super cute and very modern with booth seating which is a plus. The bar area is super cute and if I didn't have a kid with me I would be at the bar with one of their fancy cocktails. Great for photo opps they r super cute drinks. Food: the only reason I'm giving a 4 star is because of the super duper dry biscuits with a horrible tasting butter. it was dry to the point u need a whole glass to get it down. That's the only reason. We didn't eat them we sent them away but didn't say anything to the waiter. She did know however we hated the butter lol. The other meals were fantastic and delicious. Get the oysters they r all delicious they have a homemade sauce they recommend for the oysters. We got the fired up oysters too and the crabs. Amazing!! The salad is amazing and the dressing is wonderful however don't expect to be kissing anyone cause the garlic level is through the roof but it's totally worth it. I couldn't even tell you how many times I told her during our night how much we loved her service and it made our meal even more and more and more delightful. I don't know if he was the owner behind the host, stand or the manager but he was amazing even when we were leaving he told my husband happy birthday very nice of him. He was aware what was going on at each table. The runners very sweet and the bus girl great attitude, our waters were never ever emptied and not once did an empty dish sit for more than 2 minutes she was on it. At one point a dude with a backwards baseball cap came out of nowhere to take plates. He worked there due to the chef jacket but that's how the service is. The Carlin was a nice surprise that we stumbled upon walking down Main Street. It is part of a small, intimate boutique hotel. The bar area was very inviting, with a nice sitting area in front of a fireplace. We opted for appetizers. The Oysters options on the menu were varied and excellent. The waiter brought over a nice, mild hot sauce that appeared to be made on premise. The fried calamari was top notch too (with the addition of fried lemon rings.) Our waiter was great. Very attentive, even though we just stopped by for a drink and app. Made some recommendations that we appreciated. read more

The ambiance is so cool - super modern, gold prospector, mixed with a bit of Scandinavian vibes (lots of little nooks for booths and liquor on the wall).
