Had heard such great things about this place, finally made it in, and left in great disappointment. The food was cooked well, however the seasoning and condiments were lack-luster. What killed it for myself and sister was that Everything was just Sweet. It seemed there is an aversion to salt, pepper, or a little spice making the entire meal sickly-sweet. Then, the drinks. I'm concerned with what's happening there. Is it not being cleaned regularly? I tried different drinks-water, Dr Pepper, and Lemonade. All had a flavor that can only be described as "off", a hint of flavor that is not normal for any fountain drink. Last, minor issue, we had to wipe down our table that had been clear for a while before we ever sat down. Food and stuff left behind. Won't be going back, sadly. So hands down I absolutely love this place. It's been my go to since I moved here literally just before Hurricane Harvey hit and no matter what EVEN through the storm they've always been consistently great in customer service, quality food, and a great experience. I had several friends recommend this place, advising the food was great. Upon ordering the shrimp and catfish plate, the young lady who took my order was not rude, but was not very friendly, almost robotic when taking the order. Upon receiving my number, I sat at a table next to the north window. The first thing I noticed were that the bottles of condiments on my table were dirty. I took several photographs of these bottles which I have attached. If a restaurant doesn't take the time to clean the bottles with disinfectant that are handled by customers daily, how well do they maintain their kitchen. Regardless, I avoided touching these condiments. Other than this issue, the dinning area in general appeared clean. Both the catfish and shrimp were served hot. The food was good like I had been advised, so no complaints there. With some house keeping issues that need attending to, this could be a great place to visit for lunch or dinner. read more

The staff is very friendly, great first impression. From there it got a little sticky. I mean the floor was stickier than the last screening at the local Cinemark. Ordered the fried catfish and red beans/rice. The catfish was delicious however I was disappointed in the serving size. I chose their "regular" and it was one filet and two hush puppies accompanied by a lemon wedge. I'm not a hush puppy guy but did take a bite, I think if you enjoy hush puppies you'll enjoy this one. Has a bit of jalapeño in it and sweet corn so sugary top note chased with a little heat. Beans and rice are a little bland compared to the other menu items I tried. We've been there a few times and both times the person who rang up our order evidently doesn't like doing their job. The first time we went wasn't during a rush and yet they didn't have any of the crab tools clean that you use to break open shells. You go to a restaurant for the food though, and that's where they shine. Haven't had a bad item yet! I have found a winner!!!!! A tucked away jewel! Their food is very good! It was served hot and fresh. Their gumbo is spot on. In my opinion it's better than Pappas Seafood or Pappadeaux. Overall: service is good, food is meh, fries and hushpuppies are amazing (for my taste). Came in with my husband on our way to the other side of Houston. The temp inside is chilly but fine. We both ordered the same dish without realizing, catfish combo with shrimp, one with coleslaw and one with fries. Good: the hushpuppies are NOT jalapeño hushpuppies, which I am happy with. I don't like the flavor of jalapeño so these were delightfully crispy and bready. Husband says the coleslaw was good. French fries have an absolutely delightful crisp as if they were tossed in flour or cornstarch before frying. The servers appeared attentive and friendly, but several tables had trash for most of the time we were seated. Meh: Fried shrimp were large and cooked well. The coating had a slight spice that was well seasoned. Grilled shrimp was savory and also well cooked. Generally both fine. The shrimp was the only bit we ate all of. Bad: The "grilled" catfish is awful. It's cooked on a flat top so there are no actual grill marks. It was not cooked properly so pieces of the fish crust were missing, exposing a snowy-white and very bland fish. Little flavor other than oil. I was dining in. I wait for almost an hour and no food. I was patient, until I see people coming in 45 minutes after me, they were also dining in. They got there food right away. The catch has really let me down. Apart from a roach infestation and sticky floors, the staff is incredibly rude and negligent. I mean really, how are you gonna let a dead roach sit in the frame of the health inspection certificate? Every time I come in over half of the employees are on their phones. On one occasion, one employee wearing a snapback was sitting down at a table, scrolling facebook while the only other employee had to take, bag, and give out orders all by herself. I don't really have a problem with the food there, in fact the popcorn shrimp is my favorite (wouldn't recommend the chicken tenders however). The gumbo is alright, but as somewhat of connoisseur, it seems like it's been left in the pot for too long. Again, I really only take issue with the staff and the cleanliness. Surprisingly, the bathrooms have always been very clean. If you can't get your employees to put their phones away and treat the customers like paying customers instead of a nuisance, then you need a new staff. read more

We got some mild and hot crawfish as well as some boiled shrimp and snow crabs. The crawfish was average nothing special it was sorta missing that kickflavor that makes it finger licking good...the shrimp as well was kinda bland. What really gets you is you have to beg for utensils that really should be given to you when you order the crabs to help you pop them open. So let me start by saying I've been here before but it's been a few months. I felt they were ok then but nothing over the top. Fried fare. Boiled seafood. Crawfish was ok when in season. You order at the register then they bring you your food. Self serve drinks. In the months after they first opened the place was busy and there was a wait for tables So. Tonight we wanted some seafood and decided to come back. First observation: 7pm Friday night and the parking lot has lots of available spaces. Walk in and they've put major money into video monitors for menus, new paint, new decor. They've added booths along the wall. But we noted twenty to twenty five tables and all were empty save one. Several tables waiting to be bussed had near full margaritas abandoned on them. As in someone took a sip and decided not to drink it. The young man who took our order was polite. Order placed quickly. I did gumbo and fried fish. Wife did boiled crab and shrimp. Took our number and sat down. The gumbo didn't come out until the fried basket did, 10 or more minutes later. The fried food was good, moist, not overcooked. The jumbo shrimp was jumbo. The boiled entree wasn't done yet however and wide waited another 5-10 mins estimated. Her crab legs came out in and oven bag sitting on a plate. We had to plate our own food. And they forgot the shrimp, which came out in a separate bag even later. Essentially their cooking style appears to be to put a frozen crab cluster in a baking bag, add a frozen corn cob, toss in butter and seasoning and set in in the oven. Once done they put the bag on the plate and send it out. So the crab had a mushy texture and everything was drowning in butter. Ordered medium spice level and tasted unspicy This place was ok before and the front of the house is well intentioned but the back of the house is horrible. They can't even time things to come out all together with an empty restaurant, or get the order right with no rush happening. And the boiled food is uninspiring. Especially for the prices you pay.
