Susan is the absolute worst! I left in tears !!!! Back story: I came here to drop off a fostered cat who was distress he was very unhappy meowing all day and not eating. The owner and I both agreed that a professional would be best at caring for the very distressed little guy. I had no knowledge about this cat as it was dropped off the day before.But, I have had my share of knowledge of taking care of cats as I adopted an older cat that was with me for a few years until he died of a stroke, he was my best friend and when I fostered this cat I was looking to mend my broken heart. As I drove in the place was kind of scary looking and the actual "NEST" was even more dreadful. The lighting was terrible it was very messy and you would think she would have a sturdy door to insure the cats wouldn't escape she had a flimsy scratched up screen door that struggled to close. But, enough about the place this review is really about what Susan said to me. In our conversation she made comments in a rude and very mean attitude such as....... "why couldn't you give him love........what is wrong with you" "you are clueless about cats are'nt you? You have no idea what you are doing" Side note: I called and asked if I should bring the cats belongings, she had agreed and when I brought the litter down she said..... "what is wrong with you why didn't you clean this. We don't want this here get it out"! She then just made me sign paper work didn't explain anything and didn't even see me out. This is the worst customer service I have ever received. I left in tears, I have anxiety and I was so shaken up by her demeanor that I couldn't contain myself. read more

Just got Gizzy back after my 2 week long trip to India. He's such scaredy cat (petrified of rustling leaves!) that I was convinced the lengthy stay and exposure to other cats would leave him scarred. Much to my surprise, when I went to pick him up I found him to be a cool cat, which tells me that he was very well taken care of. Thanks again, Susan for being so reliable! read more

Whoa, does this place stink!! I'm seriously doubting what the other reviewers are saying about this place. I checked out this place before deciding on a place to board my kitty for a week. The place smelled like what it would smell like if there were a hundred kitties locked inside a mid-sized room with no ventilation. As soon as I stepped in, I was fighting hard not to just faint right on the spot. This was a no-go of course. Don't waste your time here if you're considering a place to board your kitty. Your kitty DESERVES better. read more

When we go on vacation, we needed to find a reliable and safe place to bring the kits (we have 3 of them) - so we send them to The Cat's Nest (or Kitty Camp, as we call it). Susan is wonderful with our cats. The holding areas for the cats are not cold metal - but plastic which helps kitties retain their body heat. We bring items from home (like a blanket or pillow) that the kits are familiar with to help them while they're away from us. The kits are fed Innova dry cat food (very good stuff!) - which helps keep their skin and coats soft and luxurious. My oldest kit is 13 years old, and although HE many not like going to "Kitty Camp" - I know that he's well cared for and will be safe until my return. read more

Worth the drive! Susan takes great care of the cats, the place smells OK and you can tell that they're well taken care of. Yea, if you have a bunch of cats it gets expensive, but a lot less than if they got into fights, etc. and had to go to the vet! Highly recommend them! If you have dogs, maybe she can refer you to someone else.... read more

Not too long after The Cat's Nest opened for business, I allowed this organization to care for my two adult cats for three weeks. Upon pick up, I was told that one of my cats was so upset about being boarded there that he pretty much stopped eating. I specifically told the owner that if there was any health problems with my animals, to take them to the veterinarian The Cat's Nest partners with. This wasn't done and basically my cat almost starved to death, had lost a tremendous amount of weight, and was very ill upon pick up. I have since never left my animals in in this organization's "care". read more

I have brought Charlie to Cat's Nest three times. I trust Ms. Susan, and I can tell she treats him well. He is never freaked out or dirty when I get him back. One time she made this awesome little catnip bag that he just adores...months later, he still gnaws on it like it's new. Also, the cages they are kept in are not too small. Charlie is a massive cat, bigger than average, and he fits fine in there. I will always bring Charlie to Cat's Nest, highly recommend Ms. Susan. read more

Our cat is almost 16 and has chronic kidney disease. Susan takes wonderful care of him, and often gives us tips about his diet. My cat likes Susan, which says a lot. When I boarded him at the vet's he was a hissing and growling machine. I cannot say enough good things about Susan and the Cat's Nest. read more

I actually came here with my sister (she already has a cat but came for moral support) to adopt, following a listing I found from the IBOK's site. It's sad that I joined yelp just to review this place, but people should really consider whether they want to bring their cat here or not. The first thing that bothers me is the SMELL. With one door on one end of the building and one door on the other end, there is almost no ventilation in this room. They must not have been using a very strong litter, either, because the building reeks of pee and poo. The one saving grace was that the cages are really large and spacious, and the cats themselves seemed really happy. Both Karen and Susan are really knowledgeable about cats, but I didn't like the fact that Susan continually scolded my sister for allowing her cat to be an indoor/outdoor cat. I don't feel it's Karen's right to say anything in regards to how my sister keeps her cat; she's not the one that owns the cat, and she lectured my sister assuming that my sister was somehow mistreating the cat by allowing him to go outdoors. I ended up adopting a 9-month-old cat from this place, and after bringing the cat home I realized that I had forgotten to ask for the vaccination papers on the spot. Two days later I called Karen and politely asked for my cat's papers, to which she immediately became defensive and told me that she said to me before she would mail me the papers. It was unnecessary and rude for her to assume I was demanding papers from her, as I only wanted to find out the status of the vaccination papers so I could plan a visit to the veterinarian's office. Upon receiving the vaccination papers, I found that it was a mistake to adopt from the Cat's Nest: my cat had never received a rabies shot and had been treated for fleas a whole two months prior to my adopting her. With all those cats in that room, both boarding and stray cats alike I felt that if Karen were to run an adoption agency she should certainly take better care of the cats and keep them up-to-date on their vaccinations. Coming home from the vet today I found my cat has a low-grade flea infestation, and I absolutely detest any kind of parasites in my home. While I understand that fleas aren't 100% preventable I find that should I bring home a cat from some kind of shelter they should be treated for fleas and up-to-date on their vaccinations. I thought about returning her because of the trouble that Karen has caused me, but I love my cat too much to return her to a horrid place like this. I will definitely NOT bring her here for boarding, even if Susan and Karen are well-knowledged in regards to cats and kittens. On top of that, I don't want to hear Karen ramble on (again) about how horrible of a person my sister is for *gasp* letting HER cat go outside, even though she didn't adopt her cat from Cat's Nest. The Cat's Nest would have received a 5-star rating, except minus two for both Karen and Susan, minus one for the horrid smell (you have to have absolutely no sense of smell to not notice the stench), and minus one for the fleas on my cat/berating my sister for allowing her cat to go outside. read more

Cat's Nest got great reviews from other yelpers so we went to go check it out. The first thing we noticed when we walked in the door was the smell. The smell of cat pee and poop was almost overwhelming. When we looked inside the kennels we found out why -- the litter boxes are cardboard, like the kind you get at a department store to put a gift in, with only about 1/4 cup of litter inside. Lots of the cardboard boxes were urine soaked and filled with poop. Maybe the staff just hadn't gotten around to cleaning them that day though (the owner said they get cleaned 1-2 x per day). The plastic kennels are nice and big, and the owner lets the cats out to walk around which is great. But I don't want my cat to get a urinary tract infection or something, so it's a no go for me. read more

I'm incredibly happy with Susan's care & attention to my cat. She is very knowledgeable, with many years in the industry. My cat is being boarded semi-long term and I couldn't be happier. Every time I visit the cats all seem happy and well adjusted. This is a very safe, quiet, convenient place to leave your cat for a short or extended stay. I feel extremely content that my cat is getting the care & attention she deserves. The cages are spacious, and most are divided with the litter & food areas separate. The cages, and facility is kept very clean. I don't think I would the feel the same level of comfort boarding my cat at a vet or PetSmart. The location and rates are great. You wouldn't get the same level of care at a chain store or veterinarian office. I rest easy knowing that my cat is in very safe hands. Good job! read more

I had taken my cats here several times while out of town, in the end mostly because I couldn't find another place I liked better. The place does smell pretty bad. The other reviewer got it right that it's likely because the litter boxes are half of a cardboard gift box with a small scoop of litter in it. The urine soaks into the cardboard, and there isn't enough litter to cover the urine or poop to reduce the smell. But I do feel the owner, Susan, truly cares for cats, so I felt they were at least with someone who liked cats. The two biggest problems I always had with the Cat's Nest were: 1. No Sunday pickups. This sucks when I go away for a week and return on a Saturday late afternoon or evening. I can't wait to see them, but have to wait another day and a half?? It's just plain dumb. I cannot pick up my cats until Monday, AND I have to pay for the extra (Sunday) night. Every other boarding facility that I know of allows Sunday pickups, even if only during a limited window of time. 2. No one on the premises 24 hours a day. I do not feel comfortable with the idea of my cats (anyone's animals, really) being alone in a light industrial area all night. If there were a fire or a break-in, no one is there to get the cats out or protect them. I wouldn't leave my kids alone somewhere all night, and I won't do that to my cats, either. I have found another facility that has someone present 24 hours, smells clean and has Sunday pick-ups. The final straw for me was when I asked the owner about working out a way I could pick up my cats on a Sunday, at any hour that worked for her, after returning to town. She responded that for a $50 fee, I could pick them up on Sunday. Now, if she had to drive to the place specifically to accommodate me, I would completely understand and would have no issue with paying the $50 for her inconvenience and time. But since she assumedly has to be there at some point on Sunday to feed the cats and change the litter boxes, I'd basically be paying her $50 to simply open the door, let me put my cats in their carriers, and take my check. I thought that was absurd and a rip-off, so I never went back. read more

Set up a weeks long stay at the Cats Nest for a rescue fur to recover from neutering, shots etc. The Cats Nest is nestled between other warehouse type businesses and looks quite industrial from the outside, nice high ceilings and roomy on the inside. Large cages/cubicles for the furs and very clean. The furs were all very relaxed and purring as I strolled past. Now for Ms. Susan, she truly loves all the furs in her care. She treats them all as if they were her very own fur babies and had little cute stories of each one to share. Her entire focus is their well being and comfort. I needed a place for our cats for three days and two nights during a termite tenting procedure. I considered the following options: --keep the cats in cages in a friend's garage --find a hotel that accepts cats --board them with the local vet --board them at the Cat's Nest I decided that it would be less stressful for the cats and for us to have them boarded. My normal vet offers boarding but it is a sideline business. I selected Cat's Nest and it was an excellent decision. What I liked: --The cages are large enough to comfortably contain the cat along with food, water and litter. --The staff loves cats and this shows. --We could visit our cats and play with them (and other cats) in the large area filled with climbing structures. --One of our cats is social; he could spend time outside of the cage exploring the facility and meeting other cats. The other cat is shy and she preferred to stay sequestered in her cage. I was thoroughly satisfied with this operation. read more

I have boarded my cats with Susan at The Cat's Nest a number of times over the past ten years, and I know her to be a reliable, careful caregiver. One of the nice things there is that a number of cages can be set to allow access to each other so that two cats who are used to being together don't have to be in separate cages, or crammed into one cage. Another is that there is plenty of light, air, and space, and she gives them 'play time' as often as possible. Twice I have traveled for more than a month, and all four cats were in great shape when I came home. One of them was diabetic, and she took very good care of him. Susan has a very kind heart. She works at TNR-ing the feral cats near her facility, and and keeps several 'unadoptable' cats at her home as well. She has gone above and beyond on numerous occasions to help people out. I know of once when an old man who had 2 cats boarded with her died. His children didn't want them, and Susan kept them until she could find good homes for them. Speaking as a ten-year customer, I have and will continue to trust The Cat's Nest to take good care of my sweet kitties. read more

I was stuck near the holidays and couldn't find any place that had room for my guy over Christmas. I had read on here that the place wasn't very clean but I didn't really have any other options. I'd never boarded my cat before, and decided that all kennels must be this bad right? I hope not! None of the litter boxes actually had kitty litter in them, they were just cardboard boxes. The place reeked. Now, my cat is pretty easy-going and well-adjusted and I had just decided for myself not to use this boarder again because of the cleanliness, however within three hours of coming home I realized that he's sick. He's been coughing and sneezing and dry-heaving for the last 12 hrs. Again, I don't know if it's normal for cats to get this sick after being boarded, but I'm thinking it's not. I also realized that the owner never asked for proof of vaccination (something I noticed all other places do), thankfully my buddy has all of his shots but I wouldn't be surprised if other cats there didn't. Next time I will plan much further in advance and go to a cleaner place. Now, anybody know of a good vet? read more

I travel a lot and usually leave my 2 cats at home for a neighbor to feed. This time I was having work done at my house so I decided to board them. I am so happy I did. Susan is a genuine pet lover. She takes great care to see that the cats are not only fed but also have interaction. They are not just left in a cage. From now on I will bring my cats there instead of leaving them at home alone. If you have a cat you owe it to him/her and yourself to bring them to the Cat's Nest when you go out of town. read more

We've been taking our cat Xenia (AKA BoBo) to The Cat's Nest for the past 5-6 years. We have taken him there many times, we even left him there once for over two months! He loves it there and is very well taken care of (this includes the need to give medication, etc.) Once when we came back to pick him up he refused to leave! He loves playing with the other cats. Her "hostel" is awesome. It has a lot of open space when the cats get to play during the day. I never have had any problems with leaving Bobo at Susan's place. Thanks Susan! read more

I was referred to The Cat's Nest by a friend of mine, who works for a veterinarian and who provides "pet sitting" services in your own home. As we were having our home tented for termites, it was not possible this time around. I called ahead to introduce myself and make some inquiries, then stopped by one day after work to check out the facilities. I will admit that, initially, the smell was noticeable, but the cages were clean and the facility was well-ventilated with screen doors & fans to circulate the air. All of the cats appeared to be very content (we all know how difficult that can be to accomplish) and well-cared for. Some were even allowed to get out of their cages to explore and get some exercise, as long as they were friendly. The very best part of The Cat's Nest, by far, is the owner, Susan. She is a wonderfully sweet woman who clearly has a heart for cats - and they know it! Our cat has never been exceptionally affectionate, but while visiting The Cat's Nest, Susan was able to convince her that there are benefits to cuddling! I would definitely recommend this establishment to others who want to ensure that their cat(s) is/are in good hands! read more
