This was an exceptional place to stop for lunch. We ended up getting The Trio for $14.95. It's a petite grilled cheese, cup of soup and petite salad of baby greens, fresh & dried fruit, toasted almonds, red onion and honey-lemon vinaigrette. It was absolutely ! If I lived anywhere near here, I would be a regular. They have a lot of high end cheeses and other options if you just want a nosh. We hope to come by again and write a more detailed review after trying more, the delicious things on their menu. read more

We used the Cheese Board to cater a wedding shower and ordered trays to be served. The food was ready when we asked for pickup and the ladies helped us take it out to the car. They were beautifully prepared and they provided everything that we would need. We had meat and cheese trays, vegetables, fruits, desserts, beautiful mozzarella sticks with tomato, basil and balsamic vinegar, and some chicken skewers. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted great. Everyone at the party enjoyed it and asked where we had purchased the food. Don't hesitate to use the Cheese Board for your catering needs. This is my first time and it wasn't very welcoming. The workers saw me standing there. There was no greeting or acknowledgment. I walked up to the counter and was told to pay at the counter and then take a seat. The food would be brought over to me. The pictures of the pastrami sandwich in the reviews looked great and decided to order one. The sandwich had very little meat and was greasy. It definitely wasn't worth what they charge for it. I looked around at what others ordered and noticed salads only partially eaten and was thinking the salad wasn't anything special. I did enjoy sitting in the restaurant. The Cheeseboard really just captures you right away. The cute displays and decor as you walk in, immediately put me in a good mood. Everyone is very friendly and helpful at the counter. After you order, you get the cute wooden number for your table. The jams on the cheese board are super yummy as they are usually a fruit with some spice to them. You can also get these for home, which I do. This is a good place to get a sandwich and soup also. With the name, not everyone might realize that but I am often getting a tuna sandwich or a chicken salad croissant for lunch. Also to note, make sure to check the board for the specials as they can be a good treat. Just like the recent rosemary cranberry mimosa! And currently in the desserts, the Andes mint brownie is delightful, rich chocolate taste with a little of the cooling mint on top. I like the ice tea bar. This restaurant was recommended for a light lunch. I went with my wife for a glass of wine and sandwich. The dining area is not huge so I can imagine it gets pretty full at time. On my visit (weekday) it was about half full--I'm guessing it was people who work in the area. I ordered the Hot Pastrami sandwich which included chips. It was good but it seemed a bit pricey to not include fries or a salad. The venue is nice and the service is friendly so i guess I'll include that in my value calculation. read more

I've always loved Cheese Boards catering, I get it at work about once every 2-3 weeks. The sandwiches are great, the little desserts are great, and even the salad is great. Well I finally got the chance to go in and try the California Avenue location, and I was super stoked about it. So this place is really nice inside, it's awesome that it has a parking lot, and I loved seeing the full menu. The food was all great, the Hot Pastrami was AWESOME, and the prices are also quite good. Where I do have to pull my 5 star back to a 4 is for what I experienced today with the kitchen area. The girl at the front working register was very friendly, no issues there at all. The issue is with the extremely loud hardcore explicit rap music blaring from a crackly old blown out JBL speaker facing directly from the kitchen to the dining area. This is just extremely unprofessional for any restaurant, especially with kids sitting in there trying to enjoy their meals as well. The worst part is their was actually normal relaxing music playing in the dining room itself, but this was just blaring from the kitchen/dish area so we were sitting there listing to expletives and n bombs every few words, all while it was competing over the other music as well. I still gotta give Cheese Board 4 stars, the sandwiches are great, and the ambiance could have been really awesome, but someone has to have a talk with the kitchen staff. If the doors aren't soundproof, the music has to either be the same continuation of the dining area, you gotta wear a headphone, or you gotta put that jenky red JBL in a corner, on lower volume, facing the other direction. Came for a work lunch and everyone was pleased! I got the jalapeño popper grilled cheese! Yummy! Also the peanut butter whoopie pie was a delight. They are very accommodating to GF diets as well. The Italian meatball soup was dairy free and delicious. I love that it had chicken meatballs since I don't eat pork. I am writing this side note for management. First, the fruit trees outside have a scale infection and need to be treated or you will lose the tree. I realize this is your landlords issue but you should let them know because the outdoor seating is going to just bake in the summer without those trees. Secondly, the chicken Caesar wrap is dramatically different day to day. It's always pretty good but my friends and I text a 1-10 rating because a lot of them get it as well since it's one of the best lunches in town. Sometimes there is double the chicken. Sometimes there are no croutons. Sometimes the dressing has less salt. Sometimes there is barely any cheese. Other times lots of cheese. Enjoyed this cute lunch spot on a sunny weekend afternoon. Plenty of seating was available both outdoors and indoors. The seating is open, with the ordering of food and drinks taking place inside at the counter. We decided to share a sandwich and salad, with a mimosa to share as well. The ordering process was a little frustrating as I requested the Turkey Focaccia sandwich with the side of chips it comes with, in addition to two side salads. I was told I wasn't able to do this because the side salads only come with create your own sandwiches (I think?) so was told to just order a normal house salad to split. I was fine with this solution, and confirmed the chips would still be included. I also ordered the Sunrise Mimosa (with orange juice and blood orange flavors) which was refreshing. Water is self serve inside. The meal ended up being served without the chips. It's not a big deal, but I had confirmed at the counter a few times that it would still be included with the additional salad I was purchasing. Also, this was a pricey meal. I visited the cheeseboard for the first time over the winter. I had taken my bike to the store and had a lovely experience. I got the turkey focaccia and it was delicious. The focaccia bread was warm and soft. I love they have flat sandwich pickles. And a balance of all flavors with each bite. I stopped in yesterday for soup (it was 91° out what was I thinking). It was my first time in there and the place is adorable. They offer water cups with lemon water while you wait. I asked to sample their soups that day, the choices were tomato or mushroom. The mushroom soup was mind blowing. It was so rich and hearty, almost buttery. I got a cup of soup which was plenty for me. It came with crostinis that were crispy but not hard and super buttery. At first I was dunking them in the soup but I began crumbling the crostini on top of the soup and they stayed crunchy the whole time. I will definitely be back to try their other weekly soup specials and explore more of the menu. read more

I have been dying to try the cheese board for years and finally did and it.... Was okay. :/ Came in at 5 pm to partake in happy hour which was 3-6. Did not realize that the business also closes at 6. Tried to order beer off the giant letter board menu on the wall, and they didn't actually have in stock the beers that were listed. Was disappointed to not have any food options for happy hour. I also asked for the sweetest wine they had and they said they had no sweet wine at the moment which was weird for a place known for bread and cheese Ordered the warm Brie plate and the crackers were so salty they were inedible. The most weird part was exactly at 6:01 we were (kindly) asked to leave because they were closing.... I have never been rushed out so quickly out of a restaurant. Went here about a month ago for the first time. The food was amazing! I thought about the roast beef focaccia sandwich ever since. Especially since I dropped the other half of my sandwich on the floor before I got to eat it. Went there today......the dark haired girl behind the counter was so rude that we forgot to even order soups with our sandwiches and instead got chips with it. Food took about 20-25 min to get. When we saw we got chips we were pretty sad, it's a cold day and we were really looking forward to getting soup with our sandwiches then a few chips. The chicken Caesar wrap was just thrown together and my sandwich that I had been waiting a month and half to have was not even close to being the sandwich I had last time. The bread had to have been at least a week old......it was so stale and had a weird taste. The roast beef was dry which combined with stale overly crunchy bread made it impossible to eat. The only positive thing about today's experience was the blonde lady who was working in the dining room, I asked her for a side of the horseradish sauce because my sandwich was so dry and she brought me a cup of soup to also use to dip my sandwich. Saw this from across the street at Centro so we came back to check it out. Great sandwiches. The bread sets them apart from most other places. Fresh and tasty and goes so well with the chicken salad or the Italian melt. The option of a small side salad for a little extra is nice. It was fresh as it must be to be enjoyed. Stopped in the other day for lunch while in town visiting with my daughters. Upon entering we were immediately greeted by warm smile and a general overview of how to order, options, open seating concept etc. We started with the warm Brie with apples served with savory jam, prosciutto and crostini and a glass of Chardonnay and boy was it delicious!! For my main, I went with the bistro French dip sandwich which is topped with melted Swiss, grilled onions, mushrooms and a horseradish cream sauce plus au jus for dipping and served with a yummy quinoa salad. My sandwich was prepared on a toasted French roll which turned out to be for the best as both my daughters ordered focaccia sandwiches (veggie and roast beef) and the bread was too thick, dry inside and oily on the outside. The sandwiches were good however next time we will be sure to request the French roll bread. The staff were very friendly and attentive, our food was brought out within minutes and the dirty plates were cleared just as quickly. The ambiance is casual and the vibe is very chill. Perfect spot for a quick girls meet up or intimate lunch. They also have tea and lemon water stations set up which we really enjoyed. Cheese Board Reno is NOT related to the Berkeley Bakery (and Cheese Monger) of the same name or its East Bay Arizmendi Cousin. But within this place's innovative menu (and catering options), I could see one of Berkeley's iconic corn cherry scones in the mix. Cheese Board Reno is located just a few steps from the Nevada Museum of Art, of which Gayle and I, along with Jim and Marti enjoyed Lunch in association with the "Ghost Army" Exhibit. I had attended a Yelp event here a couple months back and since then looked forward to enjoying this place again without the Elite gratitude. Cheese Board Reno was busy today when we dropped in for Lunch. Outside seating is limited, but appeared very pleasant as we gathered inside for dining room service. Our hosts were friendly/warm and spot on as I ordered their Trio (grilled cheese sandwich, tomato bisque, and salad), while Gayle enjoyed here Quinoa salad (with our fond memories of Peru). We both had strong second choices (tuna melt for me and mahi mahi tacos for her), but with no regrets as both of our first choices were solid (and an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie for dessert). A couple of girlfriends and I decided to take a break from work and enjoy a little Friday lunch. Neither of them had been here, so I decided that they needed to come. I absolutely love this place! When you walk in, you just grab a menu, and wait to place your order at the counter. Along the line, you will see various items in their cold case (meals to go, baked goods, cheeses, etc). Then you just place your order at the counter, and receive a table number (if you're dining in). Two of us ordered glasses of wine, so they poured those at the counter, and we brought them to our table. We came in on a Friday at around 1:00, and although the place was pretty packed, we had no problem getting a table. We got our food very quickly, and were given some glasses with ice for water. It can be a little noisy, but it didn't bother me. I ordered the half tuna sandwich on wheat. One friend ordered the roast beef and one ordered the Jamie, which was a weekly special (turkey, bacon, pesto sandwich). All of us absolutely loved our sandwiches!
